When the Makeup Wars Team decided to have its members select their favorite drugstore foundations and concealers, I didn't had to think long about it. While I don't currently have any drugstore concealers, at least that I can find in my stash, there is but one drugstore foundation that has truly stolen my heart, and that is the Rimmel London Lasting Finish Foundation in Light Ivory. I fell madly in love with its formula from my first application, and my love for it remains just as strong today!
Rimmel London Lasting Finish Foundation in Light Ivory: The reason that this remains my favorite drugstore foundation is because it offers light to medium coverage with a very natural finish. My skin looks and feels hydrated, smooth and glowing. Rimmel claims that it is "party-proof, transfer-proof and leaves you with flawless looking skin around the clock" and lasts up to 25 hours, and I agree with all of these claims, except that I can't verify the 25 hour wear-time because of my unwillingness to sleep in my makeup.

Whether you use a toner or makeup removers, you probably have sought high quality cotton pads or cotton balls to use these products. My preference has always been 100% cotton, and I have tried a great many, but Koh Gen Do definitely emerges as the winner for me because their thick cotton pads are 100% Certified Organic, they are not chemically treated, bleached or subjected to fertilizers or pesticides. Furthermore, the Koh Gen Do 100% Pure Cotton Pads do not fall apart during use, they are soft against the skin, and are a luxurious pleasure to use. I have to tell you that I had one very nasty cold this season, and one of the few pleasures that I found at this time was taking hot showers to open up my sinuses and relieve some of the symptoms. I didn't do much to pamper myself in terms of skincare, and didn't wear any makeup– partly because I felt awful– but also because I didn't want to contaminate any of my products. That said, I definitely luxuriated in wonderful products in the shower that made me feel a little better. One of my greatest obsessions during that time was the Sol De Janeiro Brazilian 4 Play Moisturizing Shower Cream-Gel, and it has remained one of my all-time favorite shower gels since then!
Sol De Janeiro Brazilian 4 Play Moisturizing Shower Cream-Gel is a rich and creamy lathering shower gel that gently cleans the skin without stripping it, and it smells utterly delicious. The creamy coconut aroma is punctuated by slight notes of jasmine, heliotrope and vanilla, but it is neither overpowering, nor too sweet, but instead warm and rich. The coconut oil leaves skin soft, smooth and hydrated, and it boasts suitable emollience for shaving. In fact, I prefer using this to shaving cream for my legs and under arms.

Sometimes you just have to stop, take a deep breath and truly be thankful for the things that really matter. It has been pouring in Southern California lately, and when it does I always worry about the homeless people and animals who are stuck outside without shelter. Pure Argan Oil is one of my favorite multipurpose oils for the hair, face, body and hands. Overall Assessment: I am impressed by the first three products that I have tried from Advanced Mineral Makeup, and look forward to trying more of their products. If you are seeking high quality mineral makeup, then these products are definitely worthy of your consideration.
I have tried numerous Osmosis skincare and makeup products, and I remain very impressed by the efficacy of each of the things that I have tested. Ever on the hunt for effective eye creams and eye serums, I was naturally quite interested in trying their Refresh Eye Serum and Refresh PM Eye Serum. Both are very effective moisturizers, they reduces the appearance of dark circles and puffiness and plump fine lines.
Osmosis Pur Medical Refresh Eye Serum ($60.00 from Osmosis and Skin Care RX): This is an intensely hydrating, anti-aging daytime eye serum that diminishes the appearance of dark circles, reduces the appearance of under-eye puffiness and softens the appearance of fine lines. It is exceedingly concentrated, therefore only a tiny amount is needed for the best results. I apply it to warm, slightly damp freshly cleansed skin and it sinks right in. Skin is left soft, supple, nourished and brightened.

It sinks in, but leaves behind a slight protective barrier. It is ultra-moisturizing and nourishing, and it leaves skin soft and silky smooth. Furthermore, it plumps the appearance of fine lines, diminishes the appearance of dark circles, and reduces the appearance of under-eye puffiness.

Refresh PM is an intensely-moisturizing eye serum that helps restore a healthy barrier and plump fine lines around the eyes, while providing protection and improvement to this delicate area.
Overall Assessment: I really like both of these serums a lot, and definitely recommend considering them if you have dark circles, under-eye puffiness, or need an infusion of moisture.
Bite Beauty Lush Lip Tints are among my favorite go-to tinted lip products that reside somewhere between a lipstick and a hybrid tinted lip balm, and I essentially always have one on me because they look and feel amazing on the lips. Bite Beauty offers a wide array of beautiful lip products that are made with very high quality, food-grade ingredients that are safe to ingest without sacrificing beautiful colors and finishes.
The Bite Beauty Lush Lip Tint formula is very emollient, moisturizing and exceedingly comfortable on the lips. I received an email from a longtime reader who remembered that I had purchased a couple of Verso products, and wondered if I might review them so that she could decide whether or not she wanted to purchase them. I have been meaning to review them for quite a while, and she gave me the proper motivation to reflect on the Verso Super Facial Serum and the Verso Super Eye Serum.
I have to preface this by stating that I am very cautious with my skin, and I generally consult my doctor or dermatologist before I begin using active, exfoliating products, and have them take a close look at moles to determine whether there are any that are suspicious looking. To state the obvious, sometimes the things that one might seek to treat with retinol-based products could actually be cancerous, or pre-cancerous, and therefore the worst possible thing to do is apply active products to try to make these skin conditions disappear. It is also incredibly important to be sure to be diligent about using high SPF sunscreens when you are using retinol, or other products that encourage rapid skin cell turnover.

Verso Super Facial Serum ($130.00 for 1.01 oz. from Verso, Barneys New York, Net-A-Porter and Cult Beauty): This retinol serum is lightweight, fast absorbing and gentle enough that I didn't experience any redness, peeling, drying or irritation with my sometimes finicky skin. I cannot speak to Verso's claims that it is "eight times more effective than the standard retinol in the same dosage," but I can say that it effectively speeds up skin cell turnover, softens the appearance of fine lines, evens skin tone, and fades hyperpigmentation. My skin is left very soft, smooth and radiant. I should note that I have tried a wide variety of retinols– including those that require a prescription– and this was among the most gentle on my skin. I tend to use this serum at night rather than day and/or night because while one sleeps skin renewal is the most pronounced, and I tend to prefer to use products that accelerate skin cell turnover during this time of the day.
I am close to the end of my bottle, and once I finish up a few of my other retinol-based products, I will purchase another bottle of Verso Super Facial Serum.

Verso Super Eye Serum ($80.00 for 1.01 oz. from Verso, Barneys New York and Net-A-Porter): There are not very many retinol-based eye creams or serums on the market, and this is definitely an effective one. I have sensitive eyes, and am therefore very careful to avoid getting it in my eyes because I have found that it stings if I do. That said, this has only happened a couple of times when I was careless. When I initially began using this serum, I noted that it tingled the skin under my eyes, but once my skin acclimated to it, that subsided. It effectively increases skin cell turnover without peeling or irritating the skin, but the big surprise was the fact that it diminished the appearance of my dark circles, and it reduced the appearance of puffiness on the days that I don't get enough sleep. Furthermore, it leaves skin soft, smooth, supple and firm. I only tend to use it at night, and I have used it alone, and under an eye cream when added moisture is needed.

Overall Assessment: I have had great success with Verso's Super Facial Serum and Super Eye Serum, but I would not recommend that you start using a retinol-based product until your doctor says that you have no pre-cancerous or cancerous moles or spots to be concerned about. What might look normal or benign to us, may tell an entirely different story to a doctor. Furthermore, I would never walk outside wearing less than an SPF 30+ when using a retinol-based product. It doesn't matter if the retinol is itself stable, but instead the issue is that one's skin is more vulnerable to the elements when skin-cell turnover is intensified through the use of retinoids, or physical exfoliants for that matter. Therefore, one needs to make sure that their skin is adequately protected. I also think that it is an exercise in good judgment to spot test any retinol-based products before adding them into your skincare routine. Even if your doctor clears you to use them, there is no way to know how your skin will react until you have begun trying it. I realize that I may seem overly cautious, but my doctor is quite accustomed to me coming in with these sorts of inquiries, including lists of ingredients for her perusal. I am simply unwilling to take chances when it comes to topically treating my skin, it is, after all, our largest organ– and it is incumbent upon us to protect it.
