Empties Post Volume XL: January 2016

Press Sample, Purchased & Samples (Affiliate Links)

I tend to like to purge things before the new year begins, and toward the end of 2015 I decided to donate piles of things that we were no longer using, and throw out things that were broken (and beyond repair). I like to start the new year off without feeling burdened by things that just take up space without ever being used. When it came to skincare products, I rounded up a pile of nearly used up products and decided to keep them in sight on my counter so that I would finish them up and recycle their bottles and jars early in the year. I actually found that method so effective that I am now making this a practice– otherwise things get forgotten about and lost in the back of the cabinet as new products find their way into my life.

Here is what I used up in January:

1) Relogy Dual Action Treatment Foam (Reviewed here): This cleanser lived in my shower for quite a long while, and I used it whenever I had pesky monthly breakouts. I found that it was remarkably effective at eradicating breakouts without drying out my skin. I really like that it is 95% natural, and that it is a gentle non-stripping foam.

Dual-action Treatment Foam. (It’s bubbly for a reason, not just ‘cause it’s fun.) 95% Natural, Relogy’s Treatment Foam uses the power of oxygenated bubbles to penetrate deep into your pores to start clearing acne immediately. This step also makes your skin look and feel softer, smoother and healthier. Use it as a cleanser with rinsing, or just apply and let it dry!

Ingredients: Salicylic Acid (from white willow bark - a multifunctional ingredient that addresses many of the systemic causes of blemishes) 0.5%, Benzalkonium Chloride 0.2% (gentle anti-bacterial often used in eye drops), Water, Sodium Laurel Sulfate (skin cleansing agent/soap derived from palm or coconut oils), Cocamidopropyl Betaine (derived from coconut oil - helps remove dirt and oil from the skin), Decyl Glycoside (derived from corn starch and coconut - helps remove dirt and oil from the skin), Sorbitol (derived from corn syrup - used to prevent moisture loss), Propylene Glycol (organic compound used as a stabilizer, delivery system and skin conditioning agent), Panthenol (a derivative of vitamin B5 used for moisturizing), PEG-75 (skin lubricant made from plant lanolin - used for moisturizing), Meadowfoam Flower Oil (extract from meadowfoam flower for moisture and anti-aging), Tetrasodium EDTA (preservative), Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot Orange) Extract (natural anti-septic to promote healing).

2) Alba Botanica Natural Very Emollient Body Lotion (Reviewed here): I really love this lotion, and have been purchasing it for years. It is filled with healthy ingredients, is easy on the wallet, and is widely available. I tend to pick mine up from Whole Foods when I am grocery shopping, but periodically find it on sale online. It leaves skin nourished, moisturized and very soft. I cut open the bottle and scraped out every last drop, and will definitely be purchasing another bottle soon.

An exquisitely light, natural body lotion packed with rich botanical emollients to soothe and soften skin while providing 100% daily hydration.*  Alba Botanica Very Emollient™Body Lotion blends aloe vera, green tea and chamomile extracts plus antioxidants to help nourish and replenish skin on contact.  Perfect for use in massage.  This rich lotion absorbs quickly so it feels light enough to use all day, every day.

Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Ethylhexyl Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Shea Butter, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil (Certified Organic Ingredient), Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (Certified Organic Ingredient), Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (Certified Organic Ingredient), Chamomila Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract (Certified Organic Ingredient), Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Echinacea Angustifolia Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Extract (Certified Organic Ingredient), Allantoin, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Lecithin, Polysorbate 60, Potassium Hydroxide, Xanthan Gum, Alcohol (Certified Organic Ingredient), Benzoic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Amyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Salicylate, Citronellol, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Hydroxycitronellal, Linalool, Fragrance

3) Kiwi Glow Daily Skin Moisturizer Oil in Earth (Reviewed here): I love using body oils, and during the colder months I layer them under heavy creams or body butters to keep my skin super soft and moisturized. I really like Kiwi Glow oils, and promptly opened a fresh new bottle as soon as I finished this one.

This divine oil has hints of frankincense, patchouli and vanilla. Very earthy, very relaxing. Honestly! We only use simple, natural ingredients to create our daily skin oil. Pure, organic, cold-pressed sesame, known for its healing properties and skin benefits, is the foundation of this luxurious, lightweight oil. Did you know you consume four pounds of damaging toxins through your pores every year? Its why Kiwi Glow contains antioxidants that remove these harmful contagions, leaving your skin luminous and hydrated. Kiwi Glow also has an abundance of nourishing vitamins- A, E and B complex - to rejuvenate your skin naturally form smoother, healthier looking skin. Kiwi Glow is non greasy, absorbs easily and a little goes a long way.

4) Caress Adore Forever Body Wash (Reviewed here): This bright floral is offset by a slightly tangy berry top note that is warmed by the Amber, Honey and Vanilla. It is rich, yet light and airy. It is a lovely scent that fills the shower with its lovely aroma. It has a rich foam that cleans the skin without stripping it, and I it is emollient enough that I used it for shaving as well.

Caress presents a fine fragrance breakthrough with the world's first body wash with Fragrance Release Pearls. A touch-activated technology that releases a burst of perfume every time you touch your skin, all day long. New Caress Love Forever, an irresistible feminine fragrance with floral musk and sparkling pink roses laced in amber.

5) Rituals Himalaya Scrub (Reviewed here): One word, AMAZING!

Revitalize your skin with Rituals Himalaya Wisdom Detox Scrub Salt - a deep cleansing, ultra-softening and cooling body scrub. It combines the ancient Ayurvedic ingredient Holy Basil for its calming properties with Fresh Mint to revitalize your body. Directions: Massage Rituals Himalaya Wisdom Deep Cleansing Scrub Salt into dampened skin. Rinse off with warm water in the shower or bath.
6) eSalon HEART LOCK IT Color Safe Shampoo (Reviewed here): This is such a gentle shampoo that is specifically formulated to prevent color-treated hair from fading. It is non-stripping, and was very kind to my color-treated curly hair.

Coconut Oil and Shea Butter restore, protect and revive shine. Biotin deeply penetrates to fortify, nourish and supercharge healthier, faster growth. Hair is left healthy and frizz free. Color safe.

10) ProfilePRO Custom Scent Jasmine Lola's Shampoo: I really liked this shampoo based upon my limited experience with it, but sample sizes of shampoo or conditioner generally don't provide enough product to really see how my hair will respond to them over a longer period of time.

11) Aesop Classic Shampoo: I really liked this shampoo, and found it gentle and non-stripping, but once again I wasn't able to test it long enough to determine whether it was a good fit for my hair.

Aesop Black Label hair collection includes shampoos and conditioners scented with natural botanicals and enriched with proteins. The line is specially designed to address the unique needs of your scalp and hair without stripping hair of its natural protective oil.

Aesop Classic Shampoo is a balanced, gentle formula that lets you thoroughly cleanse your hair and scalp without stripping natural oils. Designed for frequent use, Classic Shampoo is perfect for all hair types.

12) TATCHA Radiant Deep Brightening Serum (Reviewed here): This lovely serum hydrates and brightens the skin, and gives it an overall evenness in tone. I absolutely love this serum.

A hydrating, brightening serum powered by time-tested Asian botanicals to bring color clarity and radiance to the skin. Contains licorice root, jujuba, scutellaria and silk extracts as well as squalane and HADASEI-3 Bioactive Complex, a proprietary blend of rice bran, green tea and red algae extract.

Formulated without mineral oil, synthetic color, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, parabens, PEGs, PPGs, urea, DEA, TEA or phthalates. Ideal for combination skin.

13) StriVectin-SD Instant Scrub: I found this sample sitting in my sample drawer, and didn't even realize that I had it. I'm not sure what I expected, but it was so gentle, soothing and calming that I was able to use it everyday without irritating my skin. I would definitely purchase a full size tube.

StriVectin-SD Scrub is an exfoliating scrub that cleanses and instantly retexturizes skin. Key ingredients provide exfoliation, while calming and soothing the skin, priming it for maximum absorption of StriVectin treatment products.

Removes surface impurities and dry skin cells to promote greater luminosity, smoothing of rough areas and improvements in skin texture and tone. See results in your mirror immediately and over time.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Polyethylene, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-2 Cocamide, Hydrogenated Jojoba Oil, Stearic Acid, Cetyl Alcohol, Butylene Glycol, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil (Helianthus Annuus (Sun_ower) Seed Oil), Sucrose Cocoate, Triethanolamine, Jojoba Esters, Alcohol, Polyquaternium-39, Cetearyl Alcohol, Acrylates/C10- 30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Glycerin, Ceteareth-20, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), Avena Sativa Kernel Flour (Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Flour), Myristyl Nicotinate, Disodium Edta, Magnesium Nitrate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Avena Sativa Kernel Extract (Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract), Potassium Sorbate, Tocopherol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Magnesium Chloride, Methylisothiazolinone, Sodium Benzoate, Citrus Medica Limonum Fruit Oil (Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Fruit Oil), Salvia Sclarea Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara Oil (Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Oil), Hexamethylindanopyran, Tetramethyl Acetyloctahydronaphthalenes, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia Fruit Oil (Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil), Mentha Piperita Oil (Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil), Dodecahydro- Tetramethylnaphthofuran, Homolinalyl Acetate, P-Menthanone.

14) Tom Ford Black Orchid Eau de Parfum: I had about 5 sample vials of Black Orchid, and thought that I wouldn't like it on my skin, but every single time I wear it I find myself repeatedly sniffing my wrist and feeling happy. I also get so many compliments when I wear it that I finally caved and purchased a full size bottle.

The custom grown (and über rare) TOM FORD BLACK ORCHID is the show-stopping note in this incredibly luxurious scent. Sultry woods and rich fruit accords help to bring out the skin's natural perfume, and the jet-black, art-deco inspired bottle adds to the fragrance's overall glamour.

Notes: Black Truffle, Black Orchid, Black Plum, Noir Gourmand Accord, Patchouli.

15) Goldfaden MD Doctor's Scrub: I have used several sample packets of this exfoliant, and really like it a lot. I need a few more tries to decide whether I want to buy it.

Dr. Goldfaden's coveted exfoliator contains powerful ruby crystals that provide immediate cell renewal by polishing away dead surface cells, leaving brighter, clearer and younger-looking skin. Daily use improves the appearance of fine lines, reduces pore size, and leaves you with a healthy, radiant complexion.

Empties Post Volume XXXIV: June and July 2015

Press Samples, Purchased by Me and Free Samples (Affiliate Links)

I used up so few products in the month of June that I consolidated June and July into a single Empties post. Sometimes when I am testing lots of different products, I find it difficult to finish up much of anything. I thought that I would have finished up more than 5 full size products, but at least I managed to finish up a fair number of samples.

1) Caress Fine Fragrance Love Forever Body Wash (reviewed here): Caress makes such great body products, and I really like this body wash a lot! Lovely lather, great scent, and it leaves my skin soft and moisturized. Definitely worth trying!

2) Trader Joe's Moisturizing Cream Shave in Honey Mango is a staple in our household, and my husband and I both use it! I buy them 3-4 at a time. This a creamy dreamy moisturizing shave cream that leaves skin soft and supple, and it smells absolutely delicious! I highly recommend it, and it's also so affordable!

3) Kiss My Face Active Life in Cucumber Green Tea is another staple for me. I always have this on hand, and will continue to buy it over and over again. It is so gentle on sensitive skin, and it isn't filled with unhealthy chemicals.

4) The Honest Company Honest Bar Soap in Hydrating Shea Butter Cleansing Bar (reviewed here): This is such a lovely moisturizing soap that leaves skin so soft. I have always been very impressed by the products from The Honest Company, and will definitely buy more of their Cleansing Bars in the future.

5) Shannon's Soaps Shaving Soap in Bergamot Mint (reviewed here): I absolutely love Shannon's Soaps– everything that they make is so wonderful. Their handcrafted soaps are so fantastic, and they work well for shaving as well. That said, their Shaving Soap is one of the best shaving products that I have ever used. The creamy lather is so moisturizing and emollient, and lends itself to the perfect close shave. It's great for men, but I use it on my legs and underarms and just love it!
6) Miller Harris Citron Citron Shower Gel: This was a lovely smelling citrus scented shower gel that  did a great job cleaning my skin and leaving it soft.

7) The Honest Company Honest Hand Soap in Lavender (reviewed here): This smelled and felt so  good against the skin that I need to buy a full size bottle!

8) Essenza Luxury Hand Soap in French Lavender (featured here): This is an absolutely delectable smelling lavender hand soap. I used it down to the last drop, and thoroughly enjoyed every last bit!

9) L'Occitane Lait Corporel Body Lotion: I love L'Occitane lotions, and was happy with this little sample bottle. I'm not sure if this particular lotion is still being offered, but they have so many other fantastic lotions to choose from.

10) Herbal Essences Body Wash in Body Burst (featured here): The invigorating citrus scent was super refreshing for early morning showers. I'm not sure if I will purchase a full size bottle, but I did like the sample.

11) Moroccanoil Body Buff is a deliciously orange scented scrub that looks and feels a bit like orange marmalade! It leaves skin soft, beautifully exfoliated, and hydrated!

12) RADICAL Skincare Youth Infusion Serum is a light weight hydrating serum that lifts and plumps skin, and reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles. I want a full size bottle!

13) Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate: I really like the way this made my skin feel, but the sample wasn't large enough for me to see any real effects, or to form a meaningful opinion.

14) TATCHA Radiant Deep Brightening Serum is a beautiful deeply moisturizing serum that leaves skin with an amazing luminosity and radiance. It makes skin look and feel amazing! I love to use it in conjunction with TATCHA Gold Camellia Beauty Oil (reviewed here).

15) Assorted sample packets and unmarked sample bottles: I actually find sample packets fairly useless because there is never enough product to be able to see whether it will work well for your skin. I often take them when I travel, but since they can't be resealed they are often more trouble than they are worth. I wish manufacturers would abandon these in favor of little tubes with lids.

What did you finish up, give away, throw out or return in June and July?

Empties Post Volume XXVI: October 2014 Edition

Press Samples and Purchase by Me (Unaffiliated Links)

I had a truly wretched bug during the first half of October, and as a result I sought to use up samples and mostly empty products in an effort to avoid infecting anything else. Product testing came to a screeching halt, and I didn't wear any makeup for the duration of my flu. Therefore, what you see was either nearly gone to begin with, or that I wasn't likely to infect. When it came to washing my face I used samples in order to keep my germy fingers out of my regular sized products.

Red Flower Moisturizing Body Lotion Blood Orange: I love this lotion so much because it imparts the perfect amount of moisture to the skin and the Blood Orange scent is intoxicatingly delicious!

Rituals Magic Touch Cherry Blossom & Rice Milk Whipped Body Cream: This is an utterly amazing body cream! The whipped texture feels amazing to the touch, and this baby really nourishes the skin leaving it unbelievably soft, supple and silky. The scent is sweet and very pleasing.

Rituals Zensation Organic Rice Milk & Cherry Blossom Foaming Shower Gel (Reviewed here): Rituals makes truly amazing body products, and their Foaming Shower Gels are absolutely wonderful! Not only does this cleanse the skin beautiful, and leave it silky smooth and moisturized, but it also doubles as an amazing shaving cream!

Caress Aqua Sparkle Body Wash (Reviewed here): I really liked this body wash because it smells delicious and does a nice job cleaning the skin without stripping it. I already have a replacement!

Caress Aqua Emerald Rush Body Wash (Reviewed here): I loved the smell! Like the Sparkle Body Wash, I already have a replacement!

Udderly Smooth Body Cream (Reviewed here): This is a very rich moisturizing cream, and my husband used it up!

Udderly Smooth Shea Butter Foot Cream (Reviewed here): I love slathering this on my feet at night and wearing cozy socks, and when I wake up my feet are so soft!

Christine Reconstructive Conditioner (Reviewed here): This is such a nourishing conditioner! It leaves my hair silky smooth, detangled, and shiny!

DermOrganic Texture Taffy (Reviewed here): DermOrganic makes amazing haircare products, and their Texture Taffy holds hair in place beautifully!

Philip B. Forever Shine Shampoo: I love Philip B. haircare products, and have used many of them. This definitely seems like a very nice shampoo. My favorite shampoo from the line is their White Truffle Ultra-Rich Moisturizing Shampoo-- it is so luxurious and decadent, and works wonders on my naturally curly hair!

Kiss My Face Cucumber Green Tea Natural Active Life Deodorant: I have repurchased this deodorant so many times, and need to pick up another next time I go to Whole Foods. I love this stuff!

Natural Style Moisture Shine Deep Conditioner & Co-wash packets: This seems nice, but sample packets don't tend to give me enough time with a product to be able to tell whether or not it will work for me.

Molton Brown Orange and Bergamot Body Wash: Simply delectable. I need a big bottle of this in my life!

Moroccanoil Hand Cream and Body Souffle Samples: Very nice products, but the samples didn't allow me to use them long enough to really see their effects. I definitely want to investigate their new line of body products further.
Sponge Krema Triantafillo (Rose and Sage Cream) (Reviewed here): This is a nourishing and healing cream that feels amazing on the skin-- I whimpered when I finished this bottle, and will eventually replace it!

Sponge Ladi Avokanto (Reviewed here): This is a gorgeous olive oil and avocado based beauty oil that feels amazing on the skin, and it leaves it nourished, hydrated and glowing!

The Organic Pharmacy Virgin Cold Pressed Rose Hip Oil (Reviewed here): The Organic Pharmacy remains one of my very favorite lines, and their beauty oils are amazing! If you are looking for a great cold pressed Rose Hip oil-- this is definitely one to consider!

Caudalie Makeup Remover Cleansing Water: This is a nice cleansing water, but I do wish that it contained less fragrance.

Radical Skincare Anti-Aging Replenishing Extreme Moisture (Reviewed here): This is definitely one of my favorite face creams, and it will definitely be getting plenty of use now that the weather is cooling down!

Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask: This is a really nice exfoliating mask, but the sample only allowed for a single use, and therefore I didn't use it long enough to say more than that.

Arcona Overnight Cellular Repair Complex: I didn't use this long enough to review it, since it is a deluxe sample, but I used it long enough to see that it is an excellent overnight repair cream! I want a full sized jar now!

Kate Somerville Exfolikate (Reviewed here): Seriously amazing scrub, and I can't imagine ever being without a tube!

Lab Sample from Painted Earth Cosmetics: Absolutely amazing beauty oil, and I can't wait to try the finalized version!

TATCHA POLISHED Classic Rice Enzyme Powder (14 packets!) (Reviewed here): A Classic, indeed. This amazing powder leaves skin baby's bottom soft, and effectively whisks away dead skin cells! I will buy this over and over again! This is one of the only things that made me feel semi-human when I had the flu, and I used up my travel packets to keep my germy hands off of my full-size jar!

Reviva Labs Microdermabrasion Pomegranate Scrub (Reviewed here): This is a highly effective, and also very affordable, scrub that really transforms the skin from dull to luminescent in no time at all. It is also wonderful when used on the body!
Shu Uemura Lip Pencil: This lip liner appears to have been discontinued long ago, but it was wonderful down to the last bit. Thankfully I have a full unused backup that I just opened, and will savor to that last use!

Tweezerman Eyenhance Brow Definer and Highlighter Duo (Reviewed here): This was a really nice definer and highlighter, and once I run out of what I have I will likely seek this one out again!

What did you finish up, throw away, give away, or return in September? Did you make any new skincare or makeup discoveries that have you smitten? Any duds never again to be repurchased?

Empties Post Volume XXIII: July 2014 Edition

Given the number of new products that I have been testing, I am actually a touch surprised that I finished up any full-size products in July. That said, most of them needed little use to be finished off. However, that doesn't make tossing the empty containers into the recycle bin any less satisfying. I did pretty well finishing up deluxe samples, and the odds and ends that came in little sample pots. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with my progress-- as if there is actually such a thing--given that I continue to collect more products (full size and sample). Therefore, it might be more apt to suggest that I just reallocate my storage space to accommodate new products as I use up old ones.

Here's what I thought of the products that I finished:

Caress Juicy Escape Body Wash (reviewed here): I really liked this body wash because it smells delicious and does a nice job cleaning the skin without stripping it. I already have a replacement!

Sponge Krema Niktas Night Cream (reviewed here): This is a lovely antioxidant rich anti-aging night cream. It feels amazing on the skin, and it leaves it soft, supple, moisturized and lifted.
Red Flower Body Wash in Blood Orange: I really do have to buy the full size because the blood orange scent is absolutely amazing-- especially as the aroma bursts forth when combined with warm water.

Vitabath Cupcake Couture Dreamy Pink Frosting Body Wash (discussed here): In a word:
D E L I C I O U S!

Miscellaneous Assorted Samples: Not much to report primarily because each of the samples didn't provide enough product to determine how well they worked, or to form much of an opinion about them.

Mario Badescu Hyaluronic Eye Cream (reviewed here): This is a wonderfully hydrating and lightweight eye cream, and it feels wonderful on the kin. I find that it provides more than enough moisture for my delicate eye area, and it never causes me to get milia.

Anna Naturals Glowing Naturals Walnut Face & Body Scrub (discussed here): This is a nice scrub, but I didn't have enough in this sample pot to have much else to say about it. I only tried it on my body, and it did leave it smooth and moisturized. I wouldn't mind having a full size jar!

Naturalis Cose di Natura Aloe Vera Shampoo and Conditioner: They seemed like nice products, but once again the samples didn't last long enough for me to be able to really say how well they worked on my naturally curly hair.

TATCHA Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil (reviewed here): This is an unbelievably wonderful cleansing oil! It is light in feel and weight, and once you add a touch of water it emulsifies and effortlessly removes every bit of makeup and dirt. Skin is left more soft and smooth than you can imagine. It can be used as a pre-cleanser or a cleanser.

Molton Brown Coco & Sandalwood Nourishing Body Lotion (discussed here): This is a nice lotion and it smells good. The texture is light and hydrating, and it leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth with a light pleasant fragrance.
Left to Right: Gold Sakura Beauty Bar and Erno Laszlo Sea Mud Soap.

I took pictures of both soaps at the beginning of the month before they were used up since I long ago tossed their packages. I managed to finally use up both bars completely by the end of the month, and largely was able to do so because I kept them in the shower.

Erno Laszlo Sea Mud Soap (reviewed here): I started using this soap when I was 17 years old, and used it for quite a few years. My skincare wonder-lust eventually led me in lots of other directions, but I really wanted to try it again. I was quite pleased with the results-- it's an exfoliating soap that is best when used in conjunction with the Erno Laszlo Phelityl Oil.

Gold Sakura Beauty Bar from the Hinoki Kurocha Line (reviewed here): This is a really interesting soap that one places into a little plastic net to activate a very dense lather once a little water is introduced. It leaves skin squeaky-clean, and is probably best suited for combination to oily skin types.

What did you use up, give away, return, or toss in July? Do tell!

Empties Post Volume XXII: June 2014 Edition

When I compare the empties that I generated in June to the previous four months-- it really doesn't look like I finished up much of anything. There are a few obvious reasons that come to mind for this disparity: 1) I was testing out some new skincare products, and therefore was using new full size products instead of well-used favorites; 2) I didn't make an effort to use up lots of samples; and 3) I was so busy with work in June that I didn't give much thought to singling out nearly used up products to finish them up.

That said, I did manage to finish up a few things, and here's what I thought about what I did use:

Perfective Ceuticals Divine Brightening Mask (reviewed here): This is a lovely brightening and hydrating mask loaded with Hyaluronic Acid/Sodium Hylaluronate. After using this mask my skin feels plumped and hydrated, and it looks dewy and radiant!

Radical Skincare Restorative Moisture: I think that I need to buy the full size of this beautiful cream. While I have many of their products, and as you well know Radical Skincare is one of my very favorite lines, I somehow do not yet own this cream. This is an antioxidant rich anti-aging cream that is so potent yet surprisingly light. It absorbs quickly, and my skin looks and feels utterly amazing when I use it. Definitely at the top of my next face cream purchase list!

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Extra Strength Formula (discussed here): I love this two-part maintenance system-- it is perfect for keeping skin in great shape, and is an excellent product to use between professional peels and facials.

Caress Emerald Rush Lush Gardenia & White Tea Essence Body Wash (reviewed here): This deliciously scented body wash not only makes my skin feel soft and smell amazing, but it also makes my bathroom smell delightful!

Tree Hut Shea Body Butter in Coconut Lime (discussed here): The scent is a delicious blend of Coconut and Lime that will make you think of sipping tropical drinks on a beach. A cute cabana boy serving it wouldn't hurt either! So I digress. It is also very moisturizing and hydrating!

Kiss My Face Cucumber Green Tea Natural Active Life Deodorant: I have always opted for more natural deodorants because those that include ingredients like Aluminum Chlorohydrate have always freaked me out a bit. This is definitely one of my favorite deodorants, and have gone through many of them at this point. I should also note that my underarms are quite sensitive, and this one has never bothered me in the least. Furthermore, it has a very pleasant and mild scent, and is Paraben Free!

Red Flower Moisturizing Body Lotion in Blood Orange: This was in one of my Barneys New York Love Yourself Gift Bags, and I have to say that the scent is delectable. It provides the perfect mount of hydration, and the scent isn't overpowering. The Shower Gel is also a real winner!

Assorted Perfume Samples: The only one that makes my eyes roll back in my head is the Kai Perfume Oil (reviewed here). It remains one of my favorite fragrances, and is so perfect for the warm weather. I have full size bottles, but felt like I struck gold when I found the 5 vials in my bowl filled with perfume samples. I promptly popped them in my purse and used them up. This is an absolute repurchase until the end of time!

Two unmarked samples of a mystery cream that I used on my hands. Nothing to report-- especially since I have no idea what they were!

Molton Brown Coco & Sandalwood Nourishing Body Lotion: Nice understated scent disappears rather quickly and leaves behind adequate moisture. Not a big enough sample to have much more to say since I only used it for a short period of time.

Organix Coconut Water Shampoo and Conditioner (discussed here): Seems really nice, and smells delicious-- but I have long curly hair and these packets only got me though one full use with a touch left to spare.

What did you use up, toss out, give away, or return in June? Any great discoveries or huge duds to report?

Empties Post Volume XXI: May 2014 Edition

May proved to be a productive month for the use of full size products, but in the spirit of full disclosure some of them had been nearly empty for a while, and I only needed to focus in on finishing up what small amounts remained.

Pantene Pro-V Overnight Miracle Serum ( reviewed here): This is an affordable and effective nighttime hair treatment that leaves hair soft, smooth, shiny, and frizz-free!

Perlier Italian Sorbet Limone Refreshing Crackling Ice Body Water (reviewed here): This is a seriously refreshing product. It's like Pop Rocks for the skin, but with a cooling effect. I used up what was left in this bottle (which was actually a fair amount) during the heat spell that we had in LA in May, and it definitely kept my skin refreshed and cool.

Dr. Loretta Rainforest Mist (reviewed here): This is an antioxidant rich moisturizing spray that was likewise used up during the hot days this month. It's very refreshing and it leaves the skin very comfortably hydrated.

Absolutely Natural Skincare Rose Hip Aloe Skin Conditioner & Rehydrator: This is a lovely all natural body lotion that leaves the skin soft, silky and very moisturized. The texture is light, and the smell is very pleasant.

Amlactin Ultra Hydrating Body Cream (reviewed here): Not only is this a rich and hydrating moisturizer, but the alpha-hydroxy based cream is one potent (yet gentle) exfoliant. This cream also works miracles on feet overnight!

Udderly Smooth Udder Cream (reviewed here): This is a greaseless moisturizing cream that is thick and rich- yet it sinks in very quickly and leaves skin very hydrated. It works wonders on very dry skin, and has a light clean scent that quickly fades upon application.

Eucerin Intensive Repair Extra-Enriched Foot Cream (reviewed here): Filled with alpha hydroxy acid, this foot cream makes quick work of repairing dry rough feet. It is very moisturizing, and leaves feet soft and smooth. I love to apply it at night and then wear socks to bed, and after several days of doing this one has sandal-ready feet!

Suki Facial Lift Ultimate Firming Cream (reviewed here and here): Not only is this an amazing anti-aging face cream, but it also serves as one of the best eye creams that I have ever used. It sinks in quickly, and moisturizes and lifts the skin with great efficacy.

Painted Earth Optimum 15% Vitamin C Face Lotion (reviewed here): This is a fantastic hydrating and brightening Vitamin C Face Lotion-- it sinks in quickly, evens out skin tone, and helps to fade sun spots. I love the formula.

TATCHA Luminous Hydrating Lifting Mask (reviewed here): This is a miracle mask! It leaves the skin deeply hydrated, plumps fine lines, and gives skin a noteworthy glow. There is a good reason why TATCHA calls this their red carpet ready mask!

Koh Gen Do Cleansing Water Cloths (reviewed here): These are the most amazing cleansing water cloths! They are gentle, refreshing, and very very effective. I am able to remove all of my eye makeup, remaining foundation, blush and lipstick gently and thoroughly. These are definitely best in class!

Caress Emerald Rush Beauty Bar (reviewed here): This is a very refreshing beauty bar, and is moisturizing enough to use for shaving.
I used a fair number of samples this month, but a good many of them were used on my husband's skin. He ended up overexposed after a few days filled with very long surfing sessions, and the result was a sunburn despite his repeated application of sunscreen. I therefore slathered lots of serums, lotions and creams on him-- among them many of the packets shown here. However, my personal favorites from this pile of samples are the Serge Normant Meta Silk Shampoo, the Oribe Masque for Beautiful Color and the REN Neroli and Grapefruit Body Cream. Of the many packets, the only one that I own in a full size is the Arcona Peptide Hydrating Complex-- and it is a fantastic product that I really do need to review at some point.

Overall I am quite pleased that I was able to toss all of these empties into my recycle been this month!

What did you use up, give away, throw out, swap, or return this month? Did you discover any must-have products from samples that you tried?

Empties Post Volume XX: April 2014 Edition

April ended up being a vigorous month for the production of Empties. Honestly, I didn't consciously set out to use up so many products-- and in fact would go so far as to say that I didn't give it much thought. Yet somehow I managed to use up lots and lots of things that were full-size, deluxe samples, regular samples, and sample packets. I was so busy with work that I didn't give much thought to what was getting close to empty, or the fact that traveling with sample packets was going to result in lots of Empties. I also didn't spend any time looking at the growing pile of empty products in the bag on my closet floor to realize that I was actually doing a pretty good job of using things up this month!

Skin Within Purify Cleanse + Foaming Cleanser: This was a half-used hand-me-down from my sister when she was purging stuff before she moved. I finished it up in the shower, and thought that it was a really nice cleanser. It cleaned my skin beautifully without any stripping whatsoever.

Wen Sweet Almond Mint Cleansing Conditioner (reviewed here): I really loved this shampoo, and will probably eventually buy another one. However, at this point I am swimming in shampoos and conditioners so won't be buying any until I have used up a few in my current rotation. I do find that I have to rotate the Wen shampoos with others, otherwise it does tend to build up over time.

Caress Emerald Rush Body Wash (reviewed here): This is one yummy smelling gardenia and white tea scented body wash. It makes the shower, and the bathroom for that matter, smell delectable. I didn't use an entire bottle in less than a month, as you will note that my review was posted on April 9th, but instead an over-zealous shipping company tossed it on my porch making all of the bottles leak everywhere. I managed to salvage some, but thankfully the kind people at Caress sent me a new box of goodies. I will definitely pick more of these body washes up once I use up what I have.

Crest 3D White Strips Glamorous White: This did a great job removing coffee and tea stains from my teeth, and I will definitely repurchase them because I have no intention to stop drinking coffee or tea!

Bodycology Exfoliating Sugar Scrub in Enchanted Forest (reviewed here): This was a very effective and modestly priced body exfoliator that left my skin ridiculously soft, and didn't leave a oil slick on the bottom of my shower.

Rare Elements Pure Shampoo: This is a lovely shampoo that is free of sulfates, silicones, parabens and synthetic fragrances. I loved how nice my hair felt after using it, and I found it kind and gentle on my naturally curly hair.

Trader Joe's Face and Body SPF 30: This is a good staple to have on hand. I always left this bottle on a shelf near the back door as a reminder to use it, and I did!

Sponge Ladi Avokanto (reviewed here): I still love this lovely face oil! It sinks in nicely-- especially when warmed up between the hands and applied to warm damp skin-- and it leaves behind a lovely glow! I just opened another bottle!

Sunday Riley Start Over Eye Cream (reviewed here): This eye cream is very effective at eliminating under eye puffiness, but if your eyes are sensitive you will probably want to try out a sample packet first. It makes the eyes sting a bit and then they water for a while, but once that is over the puffiness is quite diminished. Some people find the stinging and watering to be too much for them, while others do not. Therefore, you might want to try it before you buy it. It is a very lightweight eye cream, and won't provide enough moisture for many people, but if you have a chronically puffy under eye area and don't need a rich eye cream-- then you might really love this one.
Of the samples shown above, I only have the Organic Pharmacy Purifying Seaweed Clay Mask (review forthcoming) and the Rituals Zensation Organic Rice Milk & Cherry Blossom Foaming Shower Gel Sensation (review forthcoming) in full sizes. Both are quite lovely, and I imagine that I will continue to use them for some time to come. Shannon's Soaps Cocoa Butter Love (reviewed here) is a delicious smelling and amazingly moisturizing thick and rich cream that is just scrumptious! I also have to note that the Serge Normant Meta Velour Conditioner was quite lovely, and that it's definitely on my list of future hair product purchases. It left my hair soft and manageable without weighing it down at all!
I'm actually rather shocked that I used up a staggering 70 sample packets-- I had to count a few times to make sure that the number was correct, and it is! I was able to achieve this feat because I used sample packets while traveling in April, and in some cases I used lotion and cream packets intended for the face on my hands and body instead. Single packets don't generally provide enough product to determine whether or not it will be a good fit because you can't use it long enough to see whether or not your skin will react adversely, or thrive. Thus unless I have many packets of a particular product, I tend not to use those intended for the face on my face. The many TATCHA products were used during my travels, and in many cases there were enough duplicates that I used them on my face with great results. I did have a few packets of their new Indigo line, and have to say that I am quite impressed by it.

Of the packets shown, I only have full sized versions of:

Radical Skincare Age Defying Exfoliating Pads (reviewed here): This is an ingenious product, and so highly effective. The pads themselves boast two different textures: one side boasts large raised concentric circles that offer added abrasion while the other side is smooth. This allows for an enhanced level of exfoliation-- it's a bit like a gentle version of coarse grit and fine grit sandpaper. It is a kind and gentle exfoliator loaded with anti-aging properties. I love this product!

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Extra Strength (discussed here): This two part peel is a fantastic maintenance program between professional peels, but also is highly effective if you never seek out professional peels. I am very impressed by the efficacy of this product, but the Alpha Beta Peel Extra Strength will not be suitable for sensitive skin. They also offer the Alpha Beta Original Formula which is a far more gentle variant.

TATCHA Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder (reviewed here): This powder cleanser leaves skin indescribably soft and supple. It cleans without stripping, and I'm pretty well convinced that it contains magical fairy dust because it's hard to believe that a cleanser could ever leave skin that soft! It comes in three different formulas: Classic (normal to combination skin), Gentle (sensitive skin) and Deep (oily skin).

TATCHA Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil (reviewed here): An amazing cleansing oil that can be used to pre-cleanse or as a cleanser by itself. It effectively removes every trace of makeup!

Aesop Damascan Rose Facial Treatment (review forthcoming, but shown here): I fell so in love with this luxury face oil after using up a few sample packets that I knew almost immediately that I had to have it. While it is supposed to be for drier skin types, I have found that it does an outstanding job with my decidedly combination skin.

NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer (reviewed here): I have been reaching for this tinted moisturizer with greater frequency these days because the weather has been heating up here in LA. I love the light to medium buildable coverage and the lovely natural effect. I imagine that I will be reaching for this very often during the summer months.
What did you finish, toss, return, or give away in April?
