February Empties for the Face, Body & Hair

Though February was a short month, I managed to finish up a serious pile of products. However, I need to preface this by stating that most of these products were nearly used up, and just required the month to finish them. I hadn't used some of these products in quite a while, and was delighted to rediscover them. I generated 15 empties, and 11 of them were full-size, 2 were sample packet and 2 were deluxe samples.

PurelifeBiotics Luxury Shower Steamers in Veil of Tranquility Lavender ($20.00-$22.50 from PurelifeBiotics and Macy's): is a wonderful way to start or end the day with an aromatic lavender shower steamer. The calming aroma of lavender is tempered by the cooling and relaxing menthol, and the result is a relaxing shower that quiets the mind and calms the senses. If you shower before you go to sleep, you will find this calming ritual a perfect way to encourage a very restful sleep. Purchase Again? Oh yes, these are really wonderful!

Spongellé Body Wash Infused Buffers ($12.00-$20.00 each from Spongellé): This particular buffer was limited edition from a while ago, but you really can't go wrong with any of their buffers. These sponges not only effectively remove dead skin cells, but they also leave the skin deliciously baby soft, smooth, supple and moisturized. Body wash infused body buffers are such a treat to use, and they really excel in their ability to clean and exfoliate the skin while delighting the senses with their delightful aromas. You simply dampen the body buffer with water to activate the lather to effortlessly clean and exfoliate the skin. Each sponge is filled with enough body wash for a minimum of 14 washes, and once you have used up all of the body wash, the sponge itself is still quite intact, and therefore all you need to do is use it in conjunction with your favorite liquid or bar soaps. The hanging ribbon allows the buffer to dry out easily, but I recommend hanging it outside of the moist environment of the shower to avoid bacterial growth. Purchase Again? I just opened up a new one!

Cap'N Coconut Pineapple Face & Body Polish ($12.50 for 2 oz., $24.00 for 4 oz. and $40.00 for 8 oz. from Cap'N Coconut and the Cap'N Coconut Etsy Store): is such a beautiful exfoliator, and the delectable pineapple and coconut aroma is such a treat to the senses. This polish gently and effectively exfoliates dead skin cells, revealing soft, supple and smooth skin. Rather than stripping and drying out the skin, this lovely exfoliant leaves skin remarkably moisturized without leaving behind a greasy residue. The sugar gently exfoliates, and the moisturizing oils and honey soothe and hydrate the skin. It can be used on the face, lips and body. It has a wonderful putty-like consistency that doesn't crumble all over the place, making it so easy and satisfying to use. This is a truly lovely exfoliator for the face and body, and this cruelty-free brand is worthy of your consideration. Purchase Again? Perhaps eventually, but for the time being I have other exfoliators to use up first.

NUXE Huile Prodigieuse Dry Oil ($39.00-$42.00 & £28 for 3.3 oz. from Amazon, Beauty Expert, Anthropologie and Walmart): is a delectable smelling dry oil that is formulated for use on the face, body and hair. The aroma, which might be described as a warm nutty floral, is so beloved that it inspired NUXE to create an eau de parfum that captured its intoxicating scent.

Huile Prodigieuse is a multipurpose dry oil that nourishes, hydrates, softens and repairs dry skin and hair. It has a lightweight, fast absorbing texture that immediately transforms dry skin into soft, supple, nourished skin with pronounced luminosity. It leaves hair soft, silky smooth and shiny– while it tames frizz. I also find Huile Prodigieuse particularly effective for dry hands, cuticles and feet. NUXE selected particularly nourishing plant and nut oils such as Macadamia, Hazelnut, Borage, Sweet Almond, Camellia and St. John's Wort, because they efficiently nourish, repair and soften skin and hair. Purchase Again? I just opened another bottle!

OUAI Wave Spray ($14.00 for 1.7 oz. and $28.00 for 4.9 oz. from Sephora and Ulta): This is a wonderful non-sticky spray for effortless looking beachy waves. It has a weightless texture, it doesn't flake or make hair crunchy, s I run out.and it is suitable for all types of hair. While I have curly hair, this wonderful spray offers my hair touchable hold and enhances my curls. Purchase Again? I have one more bottle, and will definitely purchase more as soon as I run out.

Leonor Greyl Paris Crème Moelle de Bambou Nourishing Shampoo ($52.00 for 7 oz. from Nordstrom): I don't usually write much about sample packets, but I was so impressed by this shampoo that I had to weigh in. This shampoo is formulated for long and dry hair, and it worked so well on my long and curly hair that I knew that I would buy a bottle, but I am waiting for it to go on sale since it is quite expensive. This shampoo is very nourishing and hydrating, but it neither weighs hair down, nor leaves it feeling greasy. It makes hair soft, smooth, shiny, frizz-free and manageable, and it has a warm and delectable scent. Purchase Again? I am waiting for it to go on sale!

Nécessaire The Body Serum ($45.00 for 5.1 oz. from Nordstrom): I received this sample packet, like the Leonor Greyl, as a GWP from Nordstrom, and I was so impressed by this body serum. It is formulated as a daily hyaluronic acid-based treatment that "hydrates, replenishes and plumps the skin." I was so impressed by the extent to which it hydrated and plumped my skin that I really want a full size bottle. Purchase Again? I am really giving it serious consideration!

Koh Gen Do Herbal Spa Mist ($69.00 for 3.38 oz. from Koh Gen Do, Dermstore, Beautylish, Saks Fifth Avenue, SkinStore, Neiman Marcus and Macy's): This refreshing face misting spray is a wonderfully effective botanical blend that hydrates, calms and revitalizes the skin. It has an aroma that is informed by citrus, which is offset by Lavender, Eucalyptus and Rosemary, and this particular blend is a treat to the senses and the skin. It offers the skin a real pick-me-up during the warmer months of the year, and while I have been reaching for it daily this summer, it is undoubtedly something that I will enjoy using year round. Purchase Again? I have like products to use up first, but I would happily use this again!

Koh Gen Do Spa Moisture Gel Rich ($119.00 for 3.53 oz. from Koh Gen Do, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Dermstore, SkinStore, Macy's, Beautylish and Amazon): This beautiful moisturizer, which is primarily formulated for normal to dry skin, is the perfect antidote to dehydrated winter skin. It has a beautiful lightweight texture that immediately sinks into the skin and leaves behind no greasy residue. It effectively functions as an essence, lotion, cream and treatment mask, and it effortlessly bolsters hydration, replenishes depleted moisture and deeply nourishes the skin. I love it as an overnight mask and as a daily moisturizer, and I have seen a vast improvement in the hydration of my normal/combination skin. I should also note that it is very soothing and calming to the skin, and maintains its hydration levels when I am spending time in the heated indoors and the cod outdoors. This is a miracle product, ad it pairs so beautifully with the Gommage Spa Gel. Purchase Again? I will definitely consider it when I need another moisturizer, but I have quite a few to use up first!

Vitabrid C¹² Facial Boosting Water ($28.00 for 4.4 oz. from Vitabrid C¹² and Saks Fifth Avenue): This toner was specifically formulated to use in conjunction with Vitabrid C¹² FACE Brightening Powder, and once you mix them you will immediately see why they conceived of this brilliant brightening duo. This toner seriously boosts moisture levels and softens the appearance of fine lines because of Vitabrid's ingenious and potent blend of peptides and Hyaluronic Acid. When mixed with their Brightening Powder, skin is left luminous, dewy and over time more even in tone. Purchase Again? I actually think that I might have another bottle that I need to find and open!

Tata Harper Resurfacing Serum ($92.00 for 1 oz. from Tata Harper, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Credo Beauty and Cult Beauty): This is an ultra-effective exfoliating serum that gently exfoliates dead skin cells, with a blend of Alpha Hydroxy and Beta Hydroxy Acids, to reveal healthy luminous skin. Unlike many AHA and BHA skin treatments, that can have a tendency to dry skin, Tata Harper has formulated this special serum to hydrate and condition the skin without compromising its ability to exfoliate dead skin. It makes my skin look and feel amazing! Purchase Again? Not right now, but definitely in the future. I have other exfoliants to use first, but I must confess that I prefer this one to most on the market that I have tried.

Omorovicza Balancing Moisturizer ($155.00 for 50ml from Omorovicza, Space NK and Neiman Marcus): This is a wonderful balancing lotion for people with oily to combination skin that offers lo g-lasting hydration while controlling shine and oil. The formula is a lightweight gel that sinks into the skin immediately. Purchase again? While I enjoy using it during the summer months, I don't really require a shine-controlling lotion since my skin is more normal to combination, and I tend to use products formulated for normal, rather than oilier skin. However, if you have combination to oily skin, this is a really wonderful moisturizer!

Aesop Camellia Nut Facial Hydrating Cream ($53.00 for 2 oz. from Nordstrom): This is a light to medium weight, very hydrating and extremely fast-absorbing cream, and it leaves behind no residue whatsoever. In fact, it offers a matte finish– which doubles as a primer, for me. It has an earthy nutty woodsy aroma that lingers for about 10 minutes before dissipating. If you love matte finishes, and creams that do double duty as effective arming bases, then you will definitely want to consider this cream. Purchase Again? Maybe eventually, but I have so many open jars of cream to use first.

Sisley Paris Eye Contour Masque ($175.00 for 1.16 oz. Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale's and Bergdorf Goodman): If you are seeking an effective mask that reduces the appearance of under eye puffiness, dark circles and fine lines– then Sisley Paris Eye Contour Mask needs to be on your radar. I have used this luxury treat for more than 3 1/2 years, and it is definitely my secret weapon for those days when I wake up with puffiness because I am exhausted and didn't get nearly enough sleep.  It is a smoothing mask, that is suitable for all types of skin, and it is specifically formulated to reduce puffiness, lighten dark circles and soften the appearance of fine lines.

On me, I have noted that it deeply hydrates the skin, efficiently smooths and plumps fine lines, reduces the appearance of puffiness and has lightened my dark circles associated with a poor night of sleep. The richly hydrating gel-based formula feels refreshing and lightly cooling, and immediately nourishes and moisturizes the skin leaving it soft, smooth, supple, lifted and dewy.

The recommendation is to apply a thick layer and to leave it on for about 10 minutes, and then gently tissue it off. However, I prefer to apply a moderate layer and leave it on for about 20 minutes instead. The results are impressive, and it is such a pleasure to use. I should remind you that I have sensitive eyes, and that this gentle formula does not irritate them or cause them to water. There is a very light aroma, presumably from the ingredients rather than an added fragrance, that is barely detectable. Purchase Again? I love this stuff, and I just opened another tube!

TATCHA Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder ($68.00 for 2.1 oz. from Tatcha, and Sephora): I'm just so incredibly impressed by TATCHA in general, and really believe that they make some of the very finest skincare products on the market. TATCHA Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder is a very effective, yet a remarkably gentle, exfoliating cleanser. I really enjoy the metamorphosis from powder to paste, and the routine itself is immensely pleasurable. There is just enough grit to the texture of this refined and silky paste to loosen and remove all debris and dirt. Purchase Again? I already opened a full size jar.

Overall Assessment: I was so pleased when I recycled all of these empty containers, and was elated to use these products up before they went bad. November 2023 Empties Galore for the Face & Body

This month I managed to finish 12 products, and two of them were sample sizes. I liked everything that I used up, and thoroughly enjoyed them. I should note that while this pile of empties seems like a lot, in the spirit of transparency they were all quite used up, and I simply focused on finishing them before they spoiled. Here is what I finished up in the month of November:

Erno Laszlo Phelityl Night Cream ($146.00 for 1.7 oz. from Erno Laszlo, Nordstrom and Amazon): is pH-balancing and formulated to repair, strengthen and hydrate your skin while you sleep. It is very thick, but miraculously lightweight, fast-absorbing and non-greasy. It quickly melts into the skin, leaves behind no residue whatsoever, and deeply moisturizes. When I wake up my skin is so soft, supple, moisturized and luminous. Additionally, it softens the appearance of fine lines and makes my skin look incredible. It can also be used during the day, but it contains no sunscreen, and therefore you need to use a separate sunscreen if you use this during the day. It has a very light and pleasant aroma that quickly dissipates, and it can be used for all types of skin. It is perfect for my normal/combination skin, but I think that people with dry skin might prefer a richer cream at night. Purchase Again? I will definitely purchase more at some point in the future, but for now I have far too many open jars of cream to use first.

Fleur & Bee Youth Fairy Retinol Moisturizer ($40.00 for 1.5 oz. from Fleur & Bee and Amazon): is a wonderfully effective and affordable cruelty-free brand. This rich and nourishing antioxidant cream, which is formulated for all types of skin, features 0.03% retinol to increase skin cell turnover and lighten hyperpigmentation, and plant stem cells to protect and rejuvenate the skin. To offset any of the drying and peeling effects, often associated with retinol-based skincare products, Evening Primrose was selected to moisturize and smooth the skin. Unlike many retinol-based skincare products, Youth Fairy is quite gentle, and I experienced no redness, irritation, itching or peeling. The thick and emollient cream melts into the skin immediately leaving it nourished and luminous. It does take up to 12 weeks to see the full effects of the retinol, but I noticed that my skin was brighter after just a couple of weeks. This cream is also gluten-free and it has no detectable aroma. If you are seeking a gentle retinol, then this is a really nice one to consider. 

It should be noted that it is very important to use a high SPF sunscreen, and reapplying it frequently, when using retinol-based products since they remove dead skin cells and leave the skin more vulnerable to the elements. It is also very wise to have your doctor check your moles and any skin irregularities– including, but limited to hyperpigmentation– to make sure that you do not have pre-cancerous lesions or spots, or skin cancer. Since I am not a medical doctor, I would urge you to see your physician to discuss the safety of adding retinol to your routine, and to make sure that none of your skin irregularities need medical attention instead of a skincare product. My doctor is very accustomed to looking over the ingredients in products that I seek to use, and she always carefully checks my skin for anything that might be, or could become, problematic. Purchase Again? I have several open jars and tubes of retinol-based products to use first, but I would definitely use this again!

Vitabrid C¹² Wrinkle Cream is ($70.00 for 1.69 oz. from Vitabrid C¹², Saks Fifth Avenue and Nordstrom) is a mid-weight rich cream that melts into the skin, and the Shea Butter delivers serious moisture. Stabilized Vitamin C helps to even skin tone and lighten hyperpigmentation, and the novel peptides help plump fine lines leaving the skin smoother looking in appearance. This ultra-luxe, and velvety-textured, cream is such a pleasure to use and it makes skin look and feel exquisite. While I do not have wrinkles, I do have some fine expression lines, and this cream has definitely softened their appearance. There is no fragrance, and therefore people who are sensitive to fragrant skincare products will not have any problems with this cream in that regard. Purchase Again? I think that I might have another jar stashed somewhere, and will definitely use it!

Annmarie Skin Care Anti-Aging Facial Oil ($118.00 for 30ml. from Annmarie Skin Care and their Official Amazing Store): is a seriously gorgeous luxury face oil. While this glorious face oil is formulated for dry and mature skin, it is one of the finest and most effective oils to have graced my normal to combination skin. This ultra-luxe antioxidant-rich facial oil, which is velvety-to-the-touch, is infused with herbs and a symphony of more than 13 nourishing oils. Ingredients such as chia, goji berry, and broccoli firm and tighten the skin, and therefore soften the appearance of fine lines. Deeply moisturizing, this beautiful oil is lightweight and it effortlessly melts into the skin. It is neither greasy, nor does it leave behind any residue. I prefer to apply it to moist and warm freshly washed skin, and it immediately leaves my skin soft, smooth, supple and luminous. It is quite concentrated, and therefore I find the a single pump offers plenty of oil to cover my face, neck and décolleté, but your use may vary. It has the most hypnotic herbal aroma, but is not long-lasting or overpowering. Purchase Again? I am using a full size bottle as we speak, and I love it!

Aesop Damascan Rose Facial Treatment ($85.00 for 0.8 oz. from Aesop, Nordstrom, Space NK, Bluemercury, Revolve and Saks Fifth Avenue): is undoubtedly a very deeply nourishing and moisturizing face oil that will do wonders for dry and/or distressed skin, but it has also done incredible things for my normal/combination skin as well. It is a very concentrated, vitamin infused treatment oil that serves as a potent remedy for skin that needs intense hydration, but is so gentle and nourishing that my skin happily drinks it up and is left soft, supple, glowing, balanced, and very moisturized. I only need a couple of drops that I warm between my hands before massaging it into my slightly damp and warm face, neck and décolleté. It sinks in immediately and effortlessly, and it has an intoxicatingly hypnotic warm earthy rose scent that simply delights the senses. It is neither too rich for my skin, nor has it caused me to break out in the least. It just makes my skin look and feel amazing. Purchase Again? I will definitely consider it once I have finished some of my many open face oils.

Goldfaden MD Fleuressence Native Botanical Cell Oil ($129.00 for 1 oz. from Goldfaden MD, Credo Beauty, Bloomingdale's and Amazon): If you are looking to try a new-to-you luxury face oil that is lightweight, fast-absorbing and incredibly nourishing and hydrating, then Goldfaden MD Fleuressence Native Botanical Cell Oil is worthy of your consideration. This delicate and delectable golden elixir boasts a light floral aroma that is an utter delight to the senses. This silky smooth ultra-luxe oil melts into the skin immediately moisturizing the skin and leaving it soft, smooth, supple and luminous. It boasts a thoroughly non-greasy texture that makes it the perfect candidate to be added to your daily moisturizer for added hydration, and it can be added to your favorite foundation for added luminosity. Furthermore, the antioxidant-rich formula, which is rich in Omega fatty acids, helps protect the skin against free-radical damage. After repeated use for about 5 weeks, I noted that the appearance of my fine lines were softened and my overall skin tone appeared more even and brightened. Purchase Again? DEFINITELY!

Fleur & Bee Just Dew It Hydrating Serum ($34.00 for 1 oz. from Fleur & Bee and the Fleur & Bee Amazon Store): This Hyaluronic Acid serum includes 14 nourishing actives that pamper and hydrate the skin with extraordinary efficacy. It is a lightweight and yet rich gel that leaves skin soft, smooth, hydrated and with a dewy glow. It is fast absorbing, it has a wonderful slightly floral aroma, and it softens the appearance of fine lines. This cruelty-free and vegan serum is as much a treat to the senses as it is to the skin, and it is remarkably affordable for such a luxurious serum. It is formulated for all skin types, and it is perfect all year long. Purchase Again? Definitely!

Elina Organics Vitamin C Elixir ($63.00 for 2 oz. from Elina Organics and their official Amazon Store): is a nourishing serum that contains Vitamin C, Rose Hips, Almond Oil, Green Tea and Sea Buckthorn to nourish and even skin complexions. This serum, which has the consistency and appearance of a lightweight moisturizer, melts into the skin and offers it immediate nourishment and hydration. If you have normal to combination skin, like me, then you can actually use this gem as your daily moisturizer, and if you have dry skin, then you will want to use it as a serum underneath your moisturizer. It also brightens the complexion, it fades hyperpigmentation and scars over time, and it soothes irritated skin. My skin is left soft, smooth, supple, brightened and with a pronounced clarity. It has a light herbal aroma, informed by its ingredients, not added fragrance, but it dissipates altogether once it is absorbed by the skin. Purchase Again? I just opened up a different Vitamin C serum, but I would love to get this one again in the future.

Erno Laszlo Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar ($44.00 for 3.4 oz. from Erno Laszlo, Nordstrom and Look Fantastic): Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar does an exceptional job cleaning and exfoliating my skin, and it does so without drying, stripping or irritating. Skin is left soft, clear and luminous, and while it is now said to be formulated for all skin types, it used to be for normal, combination and oily skin types. I would say that dryer skin types would only use it periodically for its deep cleaning and exfoliating abilities, but not as a daily soap. I do like to use it with a cleansing oil, but sometimes I use it alone. My one grievance is that the bar used to be a hefty 6 oz., which was far more satisfying to use, and now it is nearly half the size. Purchase Again? Absolutely!

Spongellé Botanica Candle in Tobacco Flower ($35.00 for 8 oz. from Spongellé): This is amazing candle has a rather hard to describe scent profile. The bottom notes, cedarwood and sandalwood, account for the tobacco flower sensibility, but it is mellowed by the top and middle notes to create a brilliantly conceived amalgam of these carefully selected aromas. If this were a perfume, it would be described as decidedly unisex in its composition and conception. Fragrance Notes: Top: Bergamot, Green Fig. Middle: Rosemary, Juniper, Sheer Lavender. Bottom: Cedarwood, Sandalwood. Purchase Again? I just start burning another one of their delectable candles!

Charlotte Tilbury Rock 'n' Kohl Eyeliner Pencil in Velvet Violet ($29.00 for 10g. from Charlotte Tilbury, Sephora, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale's, Beautylish, Selfridges, Cult Beauty and John Lewis): This wonderful formula is so creamy to the touch and easy to blend, and it glides across the skin without any tugging or pulling, and it deposits color evenly and effortlessly. It allows you to create a very clean crisp line, but gives you enough time before setting to make a smoky smudged line as well. Once it does set, it is completely budge-proof, and lasts on me all day long, and without a primer. I do not experience any transfer, smudging or fading, but I do not have very oily eyelids, and your wear-time may vary if you do. Purchase Again? I just opened another one!

January 2021 Empties

January was a tough month all the way around, but losing our kitty, Milo, made it especially rough. I burned lots of candles to honor his life, and to comfort myself, and I took lots of hot baths to soothe my spirit. I actually used up a few more products than I thought that I would, and enjoyed using what I finished up. Here is what I managed to finish up and recycle in January:

Rituals Samaurai Luxurious Bath Foam ($15.00 for 16.9 oz. from Rituals): If you love to take bubble baths, then this bath foam is sure to delight. It has a clean, fresh aroma that is very pleasant, and the Organic Bamboo and Wakame soften the skin. Furthermore, this formula is enriched with natural extracts that gently clean the skin without stripping it. Purchase Again? I have numerous bubble baths to use, but this is on my short list when it comes time to buy another.

Baylis & Harding Cranberry Martini Luxury Bathing Treats (from Walmart): This wonderful gift set, for the holidays, featured a delectably scented body wash, a shower crème and a hand and body lotion. The body wash and crème (shown above) thoroughly clean the skin without stripping it, and they leave it lightly moisturized. Purchase Again? I wish that I could, but they were from a limited edition holiday set. This British brand is really worth trying, their products are luxurious, and very reasonably priced.

Cowshed Gorgeous Cow Blissful Shower Scrub: This scrub is not only gentle, but the delectable rose scent makes using it an unmitigated delight to use. It looks a bit like strawberry jam, and smells equally edible, and unlike many body scrubs that contain oils, this one does not make an oily and slippery mess of your shower. The Jojoba Beads and Coconut Fibre are simultaneously very gentle on the skin and extremely effective in their ability to exfoliate the skin. Purchase Again? In a heartbeat, this is an incredible scrub, but it appears to have been discontinued!

Vermont Soap Sweet Orange Bar Soap (from Vermont Soap): Like the Oatmeal Lavender Bar Soap, the Sweet Orange also leaves the skin soft, supple and hydrated. The creamy lather is non-stripping, and perfectly suited for shaving legs and underarms. The aroma is a sunny, sweet orange that invigorates and refreshes the skin and the senses. Purchase Again? It looks as though they have discontinued this particular bar, and that is a pity! 

Vermont Soap Oatmeal Lavender Bar Soap ($5.98 for 3.25 oz. from Vermont Soap): This gentle face and body bar has a lovely lavender scent that has a lovely twist of citrus. It leaves the skin soft, supple and hydrated. The creamy lather is non-stripping, and perfectly suited for shaving legs and underarms. Purchase Again? Once I use up some of my bar soaps I will definitely consider it.

Fleur & Bee So Clean! Cleanser ($18.00 for 4 oz. from Fleur & Bee): This clear cleanser boasts a nice lather, but it isn't in the least bit stripping. Instead, it thoroughly cleans, removes all traces of dirt and makeup, it balances natural oils, and it soothes and lightly hydrates the skin. It comes in a wonderful thick glass bottle, and it has no detectable aroma. Purchase Again? While I really enjoyed using it, I won't need to buy another cleanser for a very long time.

Shu Uemura Porefinist Anti-Shine Fresh Cleansing Oil ($12.00-$75.00 for 1.69 oz. and 15.22 oz. from Shu Uemura USA and $15.00-$86.00 from Shu Uemura Canada): This feather-weight cleansing oil, with its delectable light floral aroma, is specifically formulated to address the needs of acne-prone/oily skin. While it deep cleans the skin, it does so exceedingly gently and without any stripping or drying. It thoroughly removes dirt and excess oils from the pores, and makeup and dirt from the surface of the skin, and it leaves skin soft, smooth and supple. When water is introduced, this cleansing oil transforms into a milky emulsion that leaves behind no oily residue whatsoever. If you have normal to dry skin, you may find this cleansing oil a bit too clarifying for your skin to use on a daily basis, and while I have normal/combination skin, I only tend to use it a few times a week, or as needed. Purchase Again? I just opened another bottle of one of their other cleansing oils! They are obsession-worthy!

The former physically exfoliates skin while the latter helps to dissolve dead skin cells, and the combination of the two simultaneously removes dirt and helps to clear clogged pores. The end result is thoroughly cleansed and exfoliated, and yet unstripped, skin that is rendered soft, smooth and supple. Furthermore, it rinses very clean and therefore leaves behind no greasy residue. One can detect the aromas of the Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, the Lavender Oil and the Rosemary Oil, and their combination is at once earthy, calming and very pleasant. This is well suited to my normal/combination skin. Purchase Again? Very likely, but I have several exfoliants to use up first.

Bed Head Calma Sutra Cleansing Conditioner ($10.99 for 12.6 oz. from Ulta and Select Salons Nationwide): This is a wonderfully effective, sulfate-free no-foam cleansing conditioner that gently cleanses the hair and scalp, removes excess product build-up and moisturizes the hair. It leaves tresses soft, smooth, manageable, frizz-free and shiny. It has a fresh green scent that is pleasant, but not in the least bit overpowering, and it does quickly fade. It is a wonderful choice for wavy and curly hair, that tends to be on the dry side, and it is such a pleasure to use. Purchase Again? Definitely!

Derma E Thickening Conditioner ($9.99 for 10 oz. from Derma E): This nourishing conditioner is very hydrating and it offers volume and lift to hair that needs a bit of extra life. It has a light herbal/menthol aroma and it is safe for color-treated hair. Purchase Again? Maybe. While I liked it a lot, I have lots of conditioners to use up first.

KMS MOISTREPAIR Shampoo ($21.50 for 10.1 oz.) from KMS Salons nationwide, Mankind, Beauty Expert and HQ Hair): This is a very gentle and non-stripping shampoo that replenishes moisture, and helps to repair damage and reduce breakage. It also helps to restore hair's natural protective coating without any build-up that weighs hair down. For all hair types. Purchase Again? I liked it enough to consider it when I need another bottle of shampoo.

Davines OI All in One Milk ($35.00 for 4.56 oz from Nordstrom, Amazon and Cult Beauty): I am a huge fan of Davines haircare products, and this wonderful multipurpose product tames frizz and flyaways, softens, detangles, and protects the hair from heat. Purchase again? I loved it down to the very last drop, and it is on my must-purchase list!

Philip B. Oud Royal Thermal Protection Spray ($32.00 for 4.23 oz. from Bloomingdale's, Dermstore and Net-A-Porter): This is a weightless and lovely-scented spray that protects hair from from heated styling tools while imparting greater shine. Furthermore, it is loaded with a mixture of botanical hydrators that condition hair. Purchase Again? I already have another bottle waiting!

Fleur & Bee Dis-Mist Hand Sanitizer Spray ($12.00 for a 2 pack bundle 59 mL / 2 oz. each from Fleur & Bee): If ever there was a time to stock up on hand sanitizers it would be now. Between flu season and the pandemic, being vigilant about hand-washing and hand-sanitizing is crucial. This has no aroma, save for the alcohol that dissipates quickly, and it doesn't dry and chap my hands. I actually prefer hand sanitizers sprays because they are less messy and far more convenient to use. Plus, I often use them to disinfect surfaces when I am in public. Fleur & Bee products are cruelty-free, high quality and kind to the body and the environment. Purchase Again? I already have another bottle!

Baylis & Harding Cranberry Martini Hand Wash (from Walmart): The cranberry aroma is delicious and uplifting and it is gentle on the skin and never strips it. Their hand soaps are among my favorites. Purchase Again? This was part of the holiday collection, and it is sold out, but I have more of their hand soaps that I am currently using!

African Botanics Marula Botanical Hand Cream ($55.00 for 2 oz. from African Botanics, Net-A-Porter, Bluemercury and Revolve): The ultra-emollient luxury oil-infused cream boasts a refreshingly creamy lightweight texture that sinks into the skin immediately and doesn't leave hands in the least bit greasy. If you adhere to the belief that one needs to use thick and greasy hand creams in order to stave-off and heal dry and chapped hands, then you will be astonished by the efficacy of this ingenious hand cream. In fact, I think that it is more accurate to classify Marula Botanical Hand Cream as a cutting-edge antioxidant-rich anti-aging serum/cream hybrid that protects, nourishes, hydrates, soothes, brightens and repairs the skin with great efficacy.

Not only are my hands soft, supple and ultra moisturized, but they are left with the type of pronounced luminosity that I have only ever experienced in luxurious serums and beauty oils for the face. The delectable warm and earthy scent heightens the sensory experience of using this luxe hand cream, but it does fade soon upon application, and therefore won't pose a problem for those among you who prefer scent-free products.

It is noteworthy that the formula is very concentrated, and the effects are very long-lasting– therefore a single tube goes a very very long way.  If you treat yourself to one new body product this season, then African Botanics Marula Botanical Hand Cream should be at the top of your list. I kid you not, this hand cream is that extraordinary. Purchase Again? I just opened a new tube! This is an amazing splurge-worthy hand cream!

Kneipp Arnica Joint & Muscle Intensive Cream ($22.00 for 3.52 oz. from Kneipp): If you seek relief for post workout aches and pains, or have acing joints and muscles, then this Arnica-based cream will definitely help ease your discomfort. It is a lightweight cream that sinks in immediately, and it leaves behind no greasy residue. Purchase Again? Yes, definitely!

Terra Essential Rosemary & White Sage Candle ($19.99 for a 12 oz. candle from Etsy): This is a wonderful, calming soy candle the comes in a gorgeous 12 oz. tumbler with a wooden lid. It burns for 30+ hours, smells divine and is a great way to add ambiance to any room. Purchase Again? I think so, I really enjoyed this candle a lot.

L'Occitane Lavender Scented Candle: This lovely candle was part of a gift set from 5 years ago, and it is sadly unavailable! It smelled so lovely, and filled the room with the most intoxicatingly beautiful Lavender aroma imaginable. Purchase Again? I would in a heartbeat, if it were still available!

Diptyque Roses Candle ($36.00-$68.00 for 2.4 oz. and 6.5 oz. from Nordstrom, Diptyque and Space NK): If you love the most refined rose candle imaginable, then you will gleeful the second you smell this gem. Purchase Again? Yes, again and again and again! I love everything about this fragrance and I already have another one that I am just about to light!

Diptyque Baies Candle ($36.00-$68.00 for 2.4 oz. and 6.5 oz. from Nordstrom, Diptyque and Space NK): I love Diptyque candles, and this one is really lovely. It is described as, "An irresistibly fresh and fruity scented candle that warms your heart and home." I used this on my nightstand, and it was calming and beautiful. Purchase Again? I think so.

Diptyque Le Redouté Candle ($87.00 for 7.7oz. from Nordstrom and Diptyque): This is "a reinterpretation of a mysterious potpourri that could be found in the original boutique when it first opened, Le Redouté fills the air with the scent of flowers and spices." According to Diptyque this is a, "cinnamon, clove and orange float on a warm breeze over a bed of roses, cedar and amber. It is positively luscious! Purchase Again? At some point, but Roses is the next on my list!

Overall Assessment: I opened quite a few new products at the end of January, and therefore I am not sure how many bottles, tubes and jars that I will finish in February, but we will have to wait and see! I have been wearing no makeup (except for the periodic Zoom meetings for work), but I have been babying my skin since we have been living under the COVID-19 stay-at-home order, and my skin is quite happy. One of my very favorite treats is using a great quality facial exfoliant, and here are my Top 4 for the month of May:

Aesop Purifying Facial Exfoliant Paste ($53.00 for 2.9 oz. from Nordstrom and SkinStore): This is a non-lathering cream-based exfoliator that uses fine quartz and lactic acid to gently exfoliate dead skin cells. Skin Types: Normal, dry and mildly sensitive skin, frequent travellers, shavers, winter and cool climates.

Suggested Directions: Dispense half a teaspoon into the palm of your hand. Work over your face and neck, including the lips. Avoid the immediate eye area. Allow the quartz and lactic acid to gently exfoliate by employing minimal pressure. Rinse thoroughly with warm water, then follow with your preferred Aesop toner and hydrator.

African Botanics Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish ($75.00 for 3.4 oz./100 ml. from African Botanics, Net-A-Porter, Credo Beauty and Cult Beauty £66.00): Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish is a very deep-cleansing facial exfoliator that effectively and efficiently sweeps away impurities and cleans out clogged pores. It is formulated with a combination of Marula Oil, Baobab Oils and Buchu Plant extracts that are punctuated by Micro-Algae and ultra-fine granules of ancient volcanic minerals. The fine granules, which densely populate this exfoliator, efficiently and effectively unclog pores, and remove dead skin cells, excess oils and impurities. Papaya and Pineapple enzymes help to dissolve dead skin cells, aid in cleaning out the pores, and make them appear reduced in size. Skin is left brightened, deeply cleansed and utterly glowing. In fact, the first time that I used it I noticed that it left my skin feeling as soft and silky smooth as ultra-fine velvet. Only the smallest amount is needed to achieve the desired results for the face, neck and décolleté, and the exfoliating particles are so efficient that you do not need to apply any pressure as you massage it into the skin. Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish Skin neither strips the skin, nor does it deplete vital moisture or hydration. Dull, congested skin gives way to youthful, radiant skin that feels amazing to the touch. 

Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish has a wonderful earthy aroma that greatly enhances the sensory experience of using this exfoliator. While it is formulated for most skin types, people with sensitive skin should mix a very small amount with their favorite cleanser. I routinely mix it with Baobab Clay Oxygenating Cleanser when I only want light exfoliation, but I use it alone at least once or twice a week.

MyChelle Refining Sugar Cleanser ($19.00 for 2.3 oz, from MyChelle, Thrive Market and Kohl's): is a thick, dense and ultra-creamy exfoliating cleanser that leaves skin very clean, soft, smooth and hydrated. It is gentle, forms a creamy and satisfying lather, punctuated by small exfoliating particles, and it never strips the skin. Since it is dense and very thick, it takes a little bit of pressure to squeeze it out of the tube, but it is very concentrated– therefore, you need only a tiny amount to clean your face, neck and décolleté. It has the most delectable warm and creamy vanilla aroma that makes using this lovely cleanser specially satisfying. Additionally, the Hyaluronic Acid keeps skin hydrated and soft. MyChelle products are cruelty-free and this exfoliating cleanser is made without GMOs, Gluten, Parabens, Petroleum, Phthalates, Silicones, Sulfates, Ureas, artificial fragrances or artificial colors, and it’s vegan.

According to MyChelle, 

Natural sugar and intoxicating Vanilla-infused cleanser that gently exfoliates surface impurities as it transforms into a creamy, foaming lather—leaving skin radiant and refined. Tata Harper Regenerating Cleanser ($42.00 for 1.7 oz. and $84.00 for 4.1 oz. from Tata Harper,  Sephora, Nordstrom, Net-A-Porter, Cult Beauty, The Detox Market, Credo Beauty and goop): is a truly fantastic cleanser that I have been using for quite a while now, and it remains one of my most reached-for wonder-products. I generally prefer lathering cleansers, but this one with its light creamy consistency, that is filled with gentle and refined exfoliating particles, is one of my all-time favorite cleansers. It gently exfoliates dead skin cells, unclogs congested pores and it hydrates, rather than strips and dries out the skin. Many moisturizing cleansers leave behind a greasy film, but this leaves behind no sort of unpleasant residue. Skin is left soft, smooth, supple and luminous. It has a very faint fruity aroma, presumably from the essential oils blend, but it is not in the least bit overpowering, and it does not linger.

According to Tata Harper,

This gentle exfoliating cleansing treatment acts as a 4-in-1 product to thoroughly cleanse and improve glow while purifying, minimizing the appearance of pores and helping to protect the skin’s natural hydration balance. Free of soaps, alcohols and detergents, this cleanser clarifies with fresh enzymes, clays and essential oils, while microspherical beads polish the skin and reduce appearance of blackheads – all without stripping the skin of moisture. Skin is left feeling balanced, hydrated and glowing. Minimizes the appearance of pores. Deeply cleanses and decongests the skin.

Tips from Tata Harper: Apply it on dry skin and massage into skin using circular motions, then focus on highly congested areas during a second buffing cleanse.
