January 2021 Empties

Press Sample & Purchased (Affiliate Links)

January was a tough month all the way around, but losing our kitty, Milo, made it especially rough. I burned lots of candles to honor his life, and to comfort myself, and I took lots of hot baths to soothe my spirit. I actually used up a few more products than I thought that I would, and enjoyed using what I finished up. Here is what I managed to finish up and recycle in January:

Rituals Samaurai Luxurious Bath Foam ($15.00 for 16.9 oz. from Rituals): If you love to take bubble baths, then this bath foam is sure to delight. It has a clean, fresh aroma that is very pleasant, and the Organic Bamboo and Wakame soften the skin. Furthermore, this formula is enriched with natural extracts that gently clean the skin without stripping it. Purchase Again? I have numerous bubble baths to use, but this is on my short list when it comes time to buy another.

Baylis & Harding Cranberry Martini Luxury Bathing Treats (from Walmart): This wonderful gift set, for the holidays, featured a delectably scented body wash, a shower crème and a hand and body lotion. The body wash and crème (shown above) thoroughly clean the skin without stripping it, and they leave it lightly moisturized. Purchase Again? I wish that I could, but they were from a limited edition holiday set. This British brand is really worth trying, their products are luxurious, and very reasonably priced.

Cowshed Gorgeous Cow Blissful Shower Scrub: This scrub is not only gentle, but the delectable rose scent makes using it an unmitigated delight to use. It looks a bit like strawberry jam, and smells equally edible, and unlike many body scrubs that contain oils, this one does not make an oily and slippery mess of your shower. The Jojoba Beads and Coconut Fibre are simultaneously very gentle on the skin and extremely effective in their ability to exfoliate the skin. Purchase Again? In a heartbeat, this is an incredible scrub, but it appears to have been discontinued!
Vermont Soap Sweet Orange Bar Soap (from Vermont Soap): Like the Oatmeal Lavender Bar Soap, the Sweet Orange also leaves the skin soft, supple and hydrated. The creamy lather is non-stripping, and perfectly suited for shaving legs and underarms. The aroma is a sunny, sweet orange that invigorates and refreshes the skin and the senses. Purchase Again? It looks as though they have discontinued this particular bar, and that is a pity!

Vermont Soap Oatmeal Lavender Bar Soap ($5.98 for 3.25 oz. from Vermont Soap): This gentle face and body bar has a lovely lavender scent that has a lovely twist of citrus. It leaves the skin soft, supple and hydrated. The creamy lather is non-stripping, and perfectly suited for shaving legs and underarms. Purchase Again? Once I use up some of my bar soaps I will definitely consider it.
Fleur & Bee So Clean! Cleanser ($18.00 for 4 oz. from Fleur & Bee): This clear cleanser boasts a nice lather, but it isn't in the least bit stripping. Instead, it thoroughly cleans, removes all traces of dirt and makeup, it balances natural oils, and it soothes and lightly hydrates the skin. It comes in a wonderful thick glass bottle, and it has no detectable aroma. Purchase Again? While I really enjoyed using it, I won't need to buy another cleanser for a very long time.

Shu Uemura Porefinist Anti-Shine Fresh Cleansing Oil ($12.00-$75.00 for 1.69 oz. and 15.22 oz. from Shu Uemura USA and $15.00-$86.00 from Shu Uemura Canada): This feather-weight cleansing oil, with its delectable light floral aroma, is specifically formulated to address the needs of acne-prone/oily skin. While it deep cleans the skin, it does so exceedingly gently and without any stripping or drying. It thoroughly removes dirt and excess oils from the pores, and makeup and dirt from the surface of the skin, and it leaves skin soft, smooth and supple. When water is introduced, this cleansing oil transforms into a milky emulsion that leaves behind no oily residue whatsoever. If you have normal to dry skin, you may find this cleansing oil a bit too clarifying for your skin to use on a daily basis, and while I have normal/combination skin, I only tend to use it a few times a week, or as needed. Purchase Again? I just opened another bottle of one of their other cleansing oils! They are obsession-worthy!

Aesop Purifying Facial Exfoliant Paste ($53.00 for 2.9 oz. from Nordstrom): This is a non-lathering cream-based exfoliator that uses fine quartz and lactic acid to gently exfoliate dead skin cells. The former physically exfoliates skin while the latter helps to dissolve dead skin cells, and the combination of the two simultaneously removes dirt and helps to clear clogged pores. The end result is thoroughly cleansed and exfoliated, and yet unstripped, skin that is rendered soft, smooth and supple. Furthermore, it rinses very clean and therefore leaves behind no greasy residue. One can detect the aromas of the Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, the Lavender Oil and the Rosemary Oil, and their combination is at once earthy, calming and very pleasant. This is well suited to my normal/combination skin. Purchase Again? Very likely, but I have several exfoliants to use up first.
Bed Head Calma Sutra Cleansing Conditioner ($10.99 for 12.6 oz. from Ulta and Select Salons Nationwide): This is a wonderfully effective, sulfate-free no-foam cleansing conditioner that gently cleanses the hair and scalp, removes excess product build-up and moisturizes the hair. It leaves tresses soft, smooth, manageable, frizz-free and shiny. It has a fresh green scent that is pleasant, but not in the least bit overpowering, and it does quickly fade. It is a wonderful choice for wavy and curly hair, that tends to be on the dry side, and it is such a pleasure to use. Purchase Again? Definitely!

Derma E Thickening Conditioner ($9.99 for 10 oz. from Derma E): This nourishing conditioner is very hydrating and it offers volume and lift to hair that needs a bit of extra life. It has a light herbal/menthol aroma and it is safe for color-treated hair. Purchase Again? Maybe. While I liked it a lot, I have lots of conditioners to use up first.

KMS MOISTREPAIR Shampoo ($21.50 for 10.1 oz.) from KMS Salons nationwide, MankindBeauty Expert and HQ Hair): This is a very gentle and non-stripping shampoo that replenishes moisture, and helps to repair damage and reduce breakage. It also helps to restore hair's natural protective coating without any build-up that weighs hair down. For all hair types. Purchase Again? I liked it enough to consider it when I need another bottle of shampoo.
Davines OI All in One Milk ($35.00 for 4.56 oz from Nordstrom, Amazon and Cult Beauty): I am a huge fan of Davines haircare products, and this wonderful multipurpose product tames frizz and flyaways, softens, detangles, and protects the hair from heat. Purchase again? I loved it down to the very last drop, and it is on my must-purchase list!

Philip B. Oud Royal Thermal Protection Spray ($32.00 for 4.23 oz. from Bloomingdale'sDermstore and Net-A-Porter): This is a weightless and lovely-scented spray that protects hair from from heated styling tools while imparting greater shine. Furthermore, it is loaded with a mixture of botanical hydrators that condition hair. Purchase Again? I already have another bottle waiting!
Fleur & Bee Dis-Mist Hand Sanitizer Spray ($12.00 for a 2 pack bundle 59 mL / 2 oz. each from Fleur & Bee): If ever there was a time to stock up on hand sanitizers it would be now. Between flu season and the pandemic, being vigilant about hand-washing and hand-sanitizing is crucial. This has no aroma, save for the alcohol that dissipates quickly, and it doesn't dry and chap my hands. I actually prefer hand sanitizers sprays because they are less messy and far more convenient to use. Plus, I often use them to disinfect surfaces when I am in public. Fleur & Bee products are cruelty-free, high quality and kind to the body and the environment. Purchase Again? I already have another bottle!

Baylis & Harding Cranberry Martini Hand Wash (from Walmart): The cranberry aroma is delicious and uplifting and it is gentle on the skin and never strips it. Their hand soaps are among my favorites. Purchase Again? This was part of the holiday collection, and it is sold out, but I have more of their hand soaps that I am currently using!

African Botanics Marula Botanical Hand Cream ($55.00 for 2 oz. from African Botanics, Net-A-Porter, Bluemercury and Revolve): The ultra-emollient luxury oil-infused cream boasts a refreshingly creamy lightweight texture that sinks into the skin immediately and doesn't leave hands in the least bit greasy. If you adhere to the belief that one needs to use thick and greasy hand creams in order to stave-off and heal dry and chapped hands, then you will be astonished by the efficacy of this ingenious hand cream. In fact, I think that it is more accurate to classify Marula Botanical Hand Cream as a cutting-edge antioxidant-rich anti-aging serum/cream hybrid that protects, nourishes, hydrates, soothes, brightens and repairs the skin with great efficacy.

Not only are my hands soft, supple and ultra moisturized, but they are left with the type of pronounced luminosity that I have only ever experienced in luxurious serums and beauty oils for the face. The delectable warm and earthy scent heightens the sensory experience of using this luxe hand cream, but it does fade soon upon application, and therefore won't pose a problem for those among you who prefer scent-free products.

It is noteworthy that the formula is very concentrated, and the effects are very long-lasting– therefore a single tube goes a very very long way.  If you treat yourself to one new body product this season, then African Botanics Marula Botanical Hand Cream should be at the top of your list. I kid you not, this hand cream is that extraordinary. Purchase Again? I just opened a new tube! This is an amazing splurge-worthy hand cream!

Kneipp Arnica Joint & Muscle Intensive Cream ($22.00 for 3.52 oz. from Kneipp): If you seek relief for post workout aches and pains, or have acing joints and muscles, then this Arnica-based cream will definitely help ease your discomfort. It is a lightweight cream that sinks in immediately, and it leaves behind no greasy residue. Purchase Again? Yes, definitely!

Terra Essential Rosemary & White Sage Candle ($19.99 for a 12 oz. candle from Etsy): This is a wonderful, calming soy candle the comes in a gorgeous 12 oz. tumbler with a wooden lid. It burns for 30+ hours, smells divine and is a great way to add ambiance to any room. Purchase Again? I think so, I really enjoyed this candle a lot.

L'Occitane Lavender Scented Candle: This lovely candle was part of a gift set from 5 years ago, and it is sadly unavailable! It smelled so lovely, and filled the room with the most intoxicatingly beautiful Lavender aroma imaginable. Purchase Again? I would in a heartbeat, if it were still available!

Diptyque Roses Candle ($36.00-$68.00 for 2.4 oz. and 6.5 oz. from Nordstrom, Diptyque and Space NK): If you love the most refined rose candle imaginable, then you will gleeful the second you smell this gem. Purchase Again? Yes, again and again and again! I love everything about this fragrance and I already have another one that I am just about to light!

Diptyque Baies Candle ($36.00-$68.00 for 2.4 oz. and 6.5 oz. from NordstromDiptyque and Space NK): I love Diptyque candles, and this one is really lovely. It is described as, "An irresistibly fresh and fruity scented candle that warms your heart and home." I used this on my nightstand, and it was calming and beautiful. Purchase Again? I think so.

Diptyque Le Redouté Candle ($87.00 for 7.7oz. from Nordstrom and Diptyque): This is "a reinterpretation of a mysterious potpourri that could be found in the original boutique when it first opened, Le Redouté fills the air with the scent of flowers and spices." According to Diptyque this is a, "cinnamon, clove and orange float on a warm breeze over a bed of roses, cedar and amber. It is positively luscious! Purchase Again? At some point, but Roses is the next on my list!
Overall Assessment: I opened quite a few new products at the end of January, and therefore I am not sure how many bottles, tubes and jars that I will finish in February, but we will have to wait and see! What did you finish up, toss out, give away or return in January? Any real winners or duds to report?

Top Pick Healthy Deodorants

Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

I am often asked what my current favorite natural deodorants might be, and truthfully I have been using the same brands for quite a while. While I have been maintaining the stay-at-home mandate, and observing strict social distancing protocols, I still wear my favorite deodorants on a daily basis. Here are the deodorants that are tried and true for me.

LAVANILA The Healthy Deodorant ($14.00 for 1.7 oz. from LAVANILA, Ulta, and Thrive Market): Though I have occasionally used mainstream deodorants, I do prefer to avoid the chemicals. LAVANILA makes wonderful healthy deodorants that are effective and smell wonderful (though they also make an unscented variant for sensitive skin). Their Vanilla Grapefruit scent is probably my favorite because it smells utterly scrumptious, and offers long-lasting protection.
According to LAVANILA,

An Uplifting Citrus. Essential oils of crisp grapefruit and lime combine for a crisp and fresh feeling.
This All-Natural, freshly scented deodorant provides superior, long-lasting odor protection. Soothing essential oils blend with powerful anti-oxidants and beta glucan technology for daily defense and nourishment. Clinically Tested. Dermatologist Recommended. No Aluminum. No Paraben. No Propylene Glycol. No Harsh Chemicals.
Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis leaf juice (Aloe juice, water/aqua), Propanediol (Corn derived), Zea mays (Corn) starch, Sodium stearate (Coconut derived), Silica, Carrageenan (Seaweed derived), Stearyl behenate (Coconut derived), Citrus medica limonum (Lemon peel oil), Inulin (Artichoke derived), Saccharomyces ferment, Alpha-Glucan oligosaccharide (Sugar derived), Yeast beta glucan, Lonicera caprifolium (Honeysuckle) flower extract, Usnea barbata (Lichen) extract, Valeriana officinalis root extract (Valerian), Hydrastis canadensis (Goldenseal) extract, Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea tree) flower/leaf/stem extract, Lycium barbarum fruit extract (Goji berry), Vanilla planifolia (Vanilla) oil, Botanical fragrance blend.
If you want to switch to a healthy deodorant that is vegan, cruelty-free and affordable, then CRYSTAL has two recent additions scents to their CRYSTAL Mineral-Enriched Deodorant collection ($6.15 each from www.thecrystal.com): Mountain Fresh and Freshly Minted are unisex scents that can be used by the whole family for effective all-day odor protection, but these are not antiperspirants and therefore they will not prevent sweating. I find this formula particularly effective, fuss-free and pleasant to use, and of course the list of healthy ingredients instills confidence rather than concern.
CRYSTAL Mineral-Enriched Deodorant in Mountain Fresh: This deodorant, with its decidedly fresh unisex scent, offers all day protection without any of the unhealthy ingredients that are found in conventional deodorants. It has no greasy or waxy residue, it leaves no white marks on the skin or the clothing and it is cruelty-free and vegan. The ingredients include essential oils to offer superior odor protection, and the scent is fresh and uplifting.

According to CRYSTAL,

Freshly Minted (inspired by the scent of freshly minted money) and Mountain Fresh (inspired by the lush Colorado mountains). The new natural deodorant is (obviously) enriched with minerals, and provides effective odor protection with a light (unisex) aroma, and no harsh chemicals. It's powerful, but gentle and glides on smooth.  Bonus -- it also conditions and moisturizes skin while delivering the long-lasting 24-hour protection you can trust.  It’s also vegan and cruelty-free!

CRYSTAL Mineral-Enriched Deodorant Invisible Solid - Freshly Minted has a fresh and clean scent that offers a touch of mint commingled with other clean natural notes– making it less pungent. It offers excellent odor protection, leaves behind no greasy or waxy film, and it leaves no white marks on the skin or the clothing.

The aroma of Schmidt's Naturals Deodorant in Rose + Vanilla ($4.69 for 2.65 oz and $8.99 for 3.25 oz. from Schmidt's Naturals Official Amazon Store and Target): is a warm and creamy rose that smells good enough to wear as a perfume. It is sweet, but not too sweet, and it isn't imposing. It is filled with healthy plant and mineral-based ingredients, and it's vegan and cruelty-free.

I have sensitive underarm skin, and have often found many chemical-laden and natural deodorants alike irritate my skin and can cause redness, but this does not. It applies with ease, doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy, and doesn't stain my clothing. It is not an antiperspirant, and therefore it will not prevent you from sweating, but it does quell unwelcome odors. I apply it in the morning, and it lasts all day long without incident, but your experience may vary given the difference between my body chemistry and yours. For me this was a great purchase, and I am very happy with the results.

Vermont Soap Lemongrass Zen Organic Deodorant ($12.00 for 3.25 oz. from Vermont Soap): I always had a fear of using so many chemical compounds in such a sensitive area, and notwithstanding a few occasions in my adult life, I have exclusively used healthier deodorants. Not all are created equal, and some seem to promote, rather than eradicate odor, but Vermont Soap Lemongrass Zen Deodorant is both effective and gentle on sensitive skin. If you love the scent of Lemongrass, then you will be enchanted by this deodorant. I find that it gives me fantastic odor control without irritating my sensitive underarm skin.

According to Vermont Soap,

Lemongrass Zen Organic Deodorant is safe, nontoxic and made from 100% organic ingredients for people with sensitive skin and for reactive bodies of all skin types.

Empties Post Volume LVIII: October and November 2017

 Press Sample/Purchased (Affiliate Links)

I was so busy at work during the month of October that I couldn't find the time to do my monthly empties post, therefore I combined it with my November feature. As is usually the case, it is the products in my shower that get used the most, but it is also the mostly-used products that I leave out in plain sight to ensure that I actually finish them up before moving on to the next like-product.

Malin + Goetz Grapefruit Face Cleanser: When I use this cleanser, I find that my skin and pores are cleaned thoroughly without being stripped of their natural oils. My skin neither feels squeaky clean, nor does it feel tight and uncomfortable after use. I neither find the smell of the grapefruit to be overwhelming, nor do I find it too harsh. My skin simply felt deliciously fresh and clean. I have decidedly normal/combination skin with an active T-zone, and while I think this is well suited for combination and oilier skin types I have serious questions as to whether people with drier  or sensitive skin types will find this product too astringent. I suspect that the exfoliating effects of the grapefruit extract may be too active for those with dry and/or sensitive skin (at least for use on a daily basis). Would I use this again? Yes, definitely. It is a wonderful cleanser for my normal/combination skin.

KORRES Greek Yoghurt Foaming Cream Cleanser: This is a luscious soap-free cleanser that starts as a cream, but transforms into a superbly luxurious foam.  It is very concentrated, therefore only a tiny bit is needed for exceptional results. Skin is neither stripped, nor left taut and uncomfortable, but instead it is rendered soft, supple and hydrated. It has a delicious warm, floral aroma that is delightful. It works well alone, or with your favorite cleansing device. Would I use this again? Absolutely!

Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel: This is a very gentle non-foaming gel cleanser that removes every trace of makeup. It has a light clean scent that reminds me of the smell of lots of aloe vera based products that I have used, but that is not among the listed ingredients. This hardworking cleanser lifts dead skin, oil, dirt, and makeup, but does so without stripping the skin.  After use my skin is left unbelievably clean, silky and soft. If you believe that your skin will only get truly clean from using a foaming or lathering cleanser- then be prepared for a paradigm shift! Would I use this again? Absolutely, I already have another bottle!

Arbonne RE9 Intensive Renewal Serum is a lightweight and fast-absorbing anti-aging serum that is formulated to hydrate, firm, lift, and soften the appearance of fine lines. It leaves my skin soft, supple, hydrated and fine lines are noticeably softened and plumped. It has the light orange aroma that, while delectable, fades as soon as it is absorbed. Would I use it again? I definitely would, but I am currently swimming in serums and am in too hurry to purchase more at this time.

emerginC Scientific Organics Peptide Booster Serum: This antioxidant-rich, active peptide-filled serum is truly obsession-worthy. It fights free radical damage, softens and plumps fine lines, brightens, firms and deeply moisturizes the skin.  Furthermore, skin is left soft, silky-smooth and luminous. I was actually sad when I finished the bottle, and that doesn't often happen because I have so many products in rotation! Would I use it again? YES! Once I need another serum, this one will be replaced!

Seabuck Wonders Himalayan Sea Buckthorn Facial Cream: What a truly glorious moisturizer this is! It is very moisturizing and nourishing, and yet very fast absorbing. It leaves skin soft, supple, hydrated and rejuvenated. Furthermore, it is has a delectable orange oil aroma that is uplifting, and yet it isn't in the least bit overpowering. This is an exceedingly affordable eco-skincare product that is definitely worthy of your consideration. Would I use it again? Yes, and I just opened another bottle, in fact!

Derma-E Essentials Microdermabrasion Scrub: This exfoliator suspends tiny, and densely populated, exfoliating particles in a creamy base that has enough grit to sweep away dead skin cells effortlessly. The formula is gentle, effective, and non-stripping. Skin is left soft, silky smooth, supple and refreshed. It is a very concentrated formula– therefore this 2 oz. jar should last a very long time unless you are using it on your face and body. It can also be used on your hands, elbows, heels knees– or anywhere you need to exfoliate rough skin. It has a very light aroma with a slight hint of citrus, but it isn't in the least bit cloying or long-lasting. Would I use it again? Yes, and I just opened another jar!

African Botanics Pure Marula Oil: This is a velvety smooth, fast absorbing lightweight oil that sinks into the skin quickly and effortlessly, and it leaves behind no greasy residue. It has a light, warm, sweet scent that is utterly intoxicating.

This antioxidant rich formula is not only a highly effective anti-aging serum, but also a great vitamin and amino acid rich formula that promotes healing and calming of the skin. It is a luxurious moisturizer that immediately plumps, hydrates and balances the skin. Skin is rendered velvety soft, supple, smooth, lifted and hydrated. Furthermore, skin is left with the highly sought after radiance that beauty oil enthusiasts seek out with such vigor!

Among its unique properties, African Botanics Pure Marula Oil is, "ideal as an anti-aging moisturizer or as a serum booster on all skin types all year round. Super fine in texture it stimulates healthy collagen production leaving supple, dewy and deeply nourished skin. Would I use it again? I will use this forever, and I have another full size and travel size in rotation.

Aroma M Camillia Cleansing Oil: If you are among the many who have become obsessed with cleansing oils, then you owe it to yourself to add aroma M Beauty Camellia Cleansing Oil to the top of your list. This luxurious handcrafted gem is the creation of world renown perfumer Maria McElroy, and therefore the delectable scent, alone, is enough to win you over. However, this ultra luxurious cleansing oil does an enviable job in its ability to deeply penetrate the skin to draw out more than just surface dirt and makeup, and it's suitable for all skin types. Would I use it again? No question.
Motives Facial Wipes: These were definitely effective wipes, but I have so many wipes to use that it will be quite a long time before I need to purchase more. Would I use it again? Probably, but I am in no rush.

Aroma Foundry Lavender Essential Oil: This is one of the most lovely lavender essential oils that I have ever tried. In fact, its silky smooth aroma retains all of the finest qualities associated with high quality lavender, while having none of the pungency that some of the lower quality oils feature. I feel as though I am standing in a lavender field each time I smell this lovely oil. Would I use it again? Absolutely!

Assorted Savvy Travelers Wipes:

In the Klear ($10.00 for 10 wipes from Savvy TravelersSavvy Travelers Amazon Store and Nordstrom): In the Klear wipes are lint-free, and therefore perfect for cleaning the lens on your phone, camera, screens and glasses.

Speak Eazy ($2.50-$10.00 from Savvy Travelers): These are breath freshening wipes that can also clean food from your teeth– what a clever idea!

Klean Upz ($10.00 for 10 wipes from Savvy Travelers and Nordstrom): These are very convenient hand wipes that keep your hands clean and moisturized. I always carry a couple packets in my purse! Would I use it again? I still have quite a few of each of their wipes, but I would definitely buy more for traveling.
Farmhouse Fresh Rosemary-Mint Gourmet Mineral Bath Soak: Who among us couldn't use a good soak during the stressful holiday season?! This invigorating soak, with its Rosemary and Mint oils, awakens and soothes the skin and senses, and it lets all of your tensions melt away. This is a perfect hostess gift! Would I use it again? YES! I need to purchase more!

Kneipp Pure Bliss Red Poppy & Hemp Bath Salts: These beautiful bath salts relax the mind and body allowing stress to melt away– creating a pronounced sense of well-being. The natural oils hydrate the skin, and the lovely earthy aroma smells heavenly. Would I use it again? Yes, absolutely.

Kai Body Wash: I love all things Kai, and this body wash is among my very favorite body washes of all time. The beautiful white floral aroma is intoxicatingly beautiful and ultra feminine, and this cleanser thoroughly cleans without stripping the skin. Would I use it again? Yes, yes, yes!
Dove Gentle Exfoliating Beauty Bar: I am a huge fan of exfoliating soaps that are gentle, effective and do not strip the skin. This bar effectively exfoliates dead skin cells, but leaves the skin soft, smooth and never in the least bit stripped. Would I use it again? Yes, I am already using another bar!

CeraVe Hydrating Cleanse Bar: If you love rich and creamy bar soaps that are hydrating, gentle and non-stripping, then this one is a real treat to use. This fragrance-free bar achieves an emollient lather that feels wonderful against the skin, and rinses clean without any sort of residue. Would I use it again? Yes.

Farmhouse Fresh Big Bare Whipped Shea Butter Body Polish: I am absolutely obsessed with high quality body exfoliators, and I am particularly captivated by this one! It has a delicious fruity floral scent that is punctuated by a touch of spicy licorice, and it is an absolute treat to the senses as it blossoms when exposed to warm water and skin. It effectively and gently removes dead skin cells to reveal soft, supple and hydrated skin. The sugar crystals dissolve while the Shea Butter melts into the skin providing superior moisture. Unlike many body scrubs that are suspended in oils or butters, this remarkable scrub washes clean leaving behind no greasy residue. Would I use it again? Yes, absolutely!

Dove Shower Foam Shea Butter and Warm Vanilla Foaming Body Wash: This creamy and delectably aromatic cleanser thoroughly cleans without stripping and it leaves skin soft and moisturized. I love this so much that I even use it to shave my legs and underarms. Would I use it again? Yes, it is on my shopping list.

Molton Brown Eucalyptus Body Wash: I am such a huge fan of Molton Brown Body Washes, lotions and creams that it is no surprised that I loved this sample for travel. It is such a treat to the senses, and skin is never stripped. Would I use it again? Yes, absolutely!

Vermont Soap Castile Liquid Soap with Aloe & Olive Oil in Lemongrass Zen: Castile soap is such a wonderful multi-purpose cleanser that can be used to clean your house, your dishes, your laundry, your vehicles and yourself! Lemongrass Zen is utterly delectable and leaves everything smelling fresh and clean. Would I use it again? Yes, without question!

Savon Passion Flower & Coconut Soap: I do not think that this glorious soap is made any longer, but I coveted it down to the very last use. It was moisturizing and smelled delectable. Would I use it again? Yes, and I would but every bar that I could find if it were still available somewhere!
Glow for a Cause Body Butter in Wish: This is a rich, thick and ultra-creamy body butter that is very moisturizing. It is quite concentrated, and therefore a little goes a long way. I apply it to warm damp skin right after the shower, and it leaves my skin soft, supple and very moisturized. While the notes are light florals, white tea, Bergamot and light musks, I read it as a delectable musky coconut. I am smitten with this one in particular because it sits close to the skin and has a beautiful subtle scent as it dries down. Would I use it again? Yes, I would.

Kiss My Face Cucumber & Green Tea Active Life Deodorant: I have repurchased this deodorant so many times, and need to pick up another next time I go to Whole Foods. I love this stuff! Would I use it again? Yes, and I do repeatedly.

Arbonne RE9 Advanced Hydrating Body Lotion is an exceedingly moisturizing and ultra emollient antioxidant and vitamin-rich moisturizer that works wonders on dry skin and hands. Filled with ingredients like Sweet Almond Oil, Safflower Seed Oil, Jojoba Seed Oil, Sesame Seed Oil, Avocado Oil, Olive Oil, Orange Peel Oil, Wheat Germ Oil and Aloe Barbadensis Leaf– this lotion delivers deep and long-lasting hydration. While this is a rich lotion, it does sink in quickly, and the high concentration of oils leave the skin glowing, but not in the least bit greasy. It has the delectable scent of the Orange Peel Oil, but I find that it dissipates soon upon application. It's a very effective all-over body lotion that is nourishing and hydrating enough to tackle dry hands and feet. Would I use it again? Yes, in a heartbeat.

PediSpa Intensive Moisturizing Foot Mask ($9.99 for two pairs from Target): is an ultra-hydrating foot mask that noticeably softens and moisturizes parched feet, and aids in the repair of cracked and calloused skin. Used in conjunction with the PediSpa Exfoliating Foot Mask, this mighty duo makes feet pedicure and sandal-ready in no-time. Would I use it again? I still have a mask left, and will likely purchase another box when I run out.
Topganic Brazilian Nut Oil with Keratin Protein Intensive Repair Conditioner: This conditioner protects, nourishes and hydrates the hair and scalp, and leaves hair manageable and frizz-free. Like its companion shampoo, it is a perfect choice for color treated hair, and hair subjected to flat irons, blow dryers and curling irons, but it is also a great choice for people with dry hair. If your hair is feeling dry because of the cold weather, then this is a great conditioner to add into your haircare routine. Would I use it again? I really liked this a lot, and would definitely use it again, but I have a cabinet filled with conditioners that I need to use first.

LUSETA BEAUTY Argan Oil Hair Masque: I always welcome trying new hair masks, and this one promises to revitalize damaged and color treated hair. I found it hydrating and quite nice. It has a light and pleasant fragrance that is neither overpowering, nor is it cloying. Would I use it again? I liked it, but I have so many deep conditioners and masks to use that it will be quite some time before I think about buying any.

Empties Post Volume LVII: August and September 2017

 Press Sample/Purchased/GWP(Affiliate Links)

I was so busy in August and September that I barely had time to think about my Empties post, and therefore combined the two months together. As you can clearly see from the products that I used, the majority of the products that I finished were the products that I used in the shower. Other than that, I finished up a couple of deodorants, a body oil and some perfume samples. However, the one thing that I endeavored to do was to throw away really old makeup that was no longer suitable for use. Here's what made it into the recycle bin:

Vermont Soap Sweet Orange Bar Soap ($6.98 for 3.25 oz. from Vermont Soap): This delectable natural soap leaves the skin soft, supple and hydrated. The creamy lather is non-stripping, and perfectly suited for shaving legs and underarms. The aroma is a sunny, sweet orange that invigorates and refreshes the skin and the senses. Would I purchase a replacement? Definitely, but I have a drawer filled with soaps– so I won't need to buy any for quite a while.

Dove White Beauty Bar ($2.99-$12.99 for 2-14 bar packs from TargetWalgreens and Bed, Bath & Beyond): This gentle, creamy cleansing bar contains ¼ moisturizing cream that leaves skin soft smooth and very clean. Would I purchase a replacement? Absolutely, but I have quite a few bars to finish first.

Dove Pink Beauty Bar ($2.99-$12.99 for 2-14 bar packs from TargetWalgreens and Bed, Bath & Beyond): This creamy soap contains ¼ moisturizing cream to help make skin soft, smooth and hydrated. It doesn't strip skin in the least, nor does it leave it taut. Would I purchase a replacement? Absolutely, but I have quite a few bars to finish first.

Reverie Farms Citrus Lavender Natural Soap ( $6.00 for a 4 oz. bar from Reverie Farms): Reverie Farms, a small company that makes biodegradable, eco-friendly bar soaps that are crafted with natural and organically grown ingredients that are free of fillers, artificial ingredients or synthetic colors and fragrances. This soap smells absolutely heavenly! It has a rich lather, but it is non-stripping thanks to the saponified oils used. Furthermore, it leaves behind no greasy residue, whatsoever. Would I purchase a replacement? Absolutely, but I have quite a few bars to finish first.

The Body Shop Hemp Soap on a Rope (Regularly $12.00 from The Body Shop): This non-drying soap effectively removes dead skin cells without stripping the skin, and it leaves skin soft, supple and hydrated. It is enriched with Hemp Seed Oil and Shea Butter– making it a wonderful choice for dry skin in need of added moisture.  It has a warm earthy scent that is neither overpowering, nor does the aroma linger on the skin for a long period of time. Would I purchase a replacement? Definitely.
ColorProof SuperRich Moisture Shampoo (Available in 2 oz., 10.1 oz. and 25.4 oz. from Salons): Finding a non-stripping and nourishing shampoo that is gentle and hydrating on color treated hair is always a challenge, but when you add natural curly hair into the mix– this becomes a real imperative. ColorProof SuperRich Moisture Shampoo adds lightweight moisture to the hair while effectively cleansing it, and it leaves hair soft and shiny. It has a light aroma that nearly resembles a warm, creamy coconut, but is is neither cloying, nor does it linger. Would I purchase a replacement? Yes, but I have a lot of shampoos to use up before purchasing another one.
StriVectin HAIR Shampoo for Color Treated Hair ($23.00 for 8.5 oz. from NordstromUltaSephora, and Macy's): This pleasantly scented shampoo boasts a sulfate-free and dye-free formula that is gentle enough to use daily without stripping the hair or causing color to fade. While I don't wash my hair daily, because it is naturally dry and  curly, I could if I wanted to. This shampoo works very well for my hair because it gently removes all product build-up and leaves my hair soft and shiny. Would I purchase a replacement? I really liked this shampoo a lot, but am interested in trying one of their newest shampoos next time. That said, this was really great for my color-treated hair.

StriVectin HAIR UV Spray for Color Treated Hair ($29.00 for 5 oz. from UltaSephora and Macy's): Not only does this spray offer UV protection, that helps preserve color and protect the hair, but it also smoothes and hydrates hair. It boasts an antioxidant-rich formula that protects against free-radical damage, and its emollience serves as an effective detangler. Would I purchase a replacement? Yes, definitely!
Dove Cucumber & Green Tea Foaming Body Wash ($5.99 for 13.5 oz. from TargetWalmart and Bed, Bath & Beyond): I love the texture of this creamy foam, and the aroma is absolutely delicious. If you love foaming body washes, then I highly recommend trying this refreshing treat. Would I purchase a replacement? Absolutely!

Vermont Soap Castile Liquid Soap with Aloe & Olive Oil in Country Lavender ($6.96 for 8 oz. from Vermont Soap): This has such a beautiful lavender aroma that lingers in the air, makes your house smell like Province, and it leaves you with a sense of wellbeing. This is a fantastic, eco-friendly multi-purpose liquid soap that can be used for the hands and body, but you can also use it for dishes, floors, walls, laundry, bathrooms, cars, or diluted in a spray bottle to clean up just about anything. Would I purchase a replacement? Definitely!

Dr. Canuso Daily Exfoliating Cleanser ($29.95 from Dr. Canuso): This is an amazing daily exfoliator that is specifically formulated for daily use on feet. Dr. Canuso makes the very important point that one should clean the shower floor with bleach in order to kill fungus that gets transferred to our feet, and this often neglected step with go a long way to eradicating foot fungus that one often associates with the gym, and not the home. With daily use, I quickly noted that my winter-worn calloused feet became soft and callous-free. While I do not have signs of foot fungus, I definitely noted a vast improvement in the condition of my feet. Would I purchase a replacement? Definitely, in fact I have already opened another tube!
Frownies Immune Shield Vitamin E Serum ($32,00 for 66ml. from Frownies, Walgreens and StrawberryNet): This multipurpose oil-based serum can be used on the face to nourish and moisturize, heal blemishes, and give skin a dewy radiance. Furthermore, it can be used on the body to nourish the skin, but its high concentration also helps to heal scars and stretch marks. It is a mid-weight oil that sinks into warm, damp skin quickly and it nourishes and hydrates the skin very effectively. It smells like Vitamin E, but its natural aroma fades after its absorbed not the skin. It is wonderful when used alone on the face and body, but my favored method is to mix it with Aroma Therapy Daily Body Lotion and to use it on my body. This combination is deeply nourishing, and it leaves skin unbelievably soft, silky smooth, moisturized and luminous. Would I purchase a replacement? I definitely liked it enough to use it again, but I have far too many body oils to use before purchasing another one.

LAVANILA The Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla Grapefruit ($14.00 for 1.7 oz. from LAVANILASephora and Dermstore): I am a longstanding proponent of healthier deodorants, and have been using them since I was a teenager. Though I have occasionally used mainstream deodorants, I do prefer to avoid the chemicals. LAVANILA makes wonderful healthy deodorants that are effective and smell wonderful (though they also make an unscented variant for sensitive skin). Their Vanilla Grapefruit scent is probably my favorite because it smells utterly scrumptious, and offers long-lasting protection. Would I purchase a replacement? Without question. This is one of my holy grail deodorants

LAVANILA The Healthy Deodorant in Pure Vanilla ($14.00 for 1.7 oz. from LAVANILASephora and Dermstore): I am thoroughly obsessed with the warm and creamy aroma of this deodorant, and think that it may just be my favorite scent among the LAVANILA Healthy Deodorants. Would I purchase a replacement? YES!
Would I purchase a replacement? I still have a few masks left, and will likely purchase another box when I run out.

Global Beauty Care Green Tea Makeup Remover Wipes (Full Size. Retail $1.99): I can never have too many makeup remover wipes– both for normal use– and for the veritable swatch-fests in which I engage regularly! I haven't tried these, but they have a nice and clean green tea scent that I like.  Would I purchase a replacement? I liked these a lot, and would definitely reuse them in the future, but right now I have a lot of makeup remover wipes to use up first.

YUNI Beauty Sweat, Refresh, Go Kit is the perfect kit to toss in your gym bag. It contains four of Yuni's best-selling natural products that are perfect for people on the go who don't have a chance to shower after a trip to the gym, yoga or pilates studio. The four portable products come in a small canvas cosmetic bag that is perfect for your gym or travel bag. I used up the two Shower Sheets while traveling, and think that they were absolutely great! You simply use them as you would a washcloth by gently wiping the Shower Sheet across skin to cleanse and refresh. They are great after a long flight or drive when you don't yet have access to a shower.

Lift Offz ($10.00 for 10 wipes from Savvy Travelers): These are individually wrapped nail polish removers.

Would I purchase a replacement? I still have quite a few of each of their wipes, but I would definitely buy more for traveling.
Assorted Perfume Samples: While I love testing out perfume samples, in the hopes of discovering an amazing must-have fragrance, I didn't love the way that any of these smelled on me.
Tossed out: As you may recall from my feature on When to Toss Your Old Makeup, I have been in the midst of throwing away old makeup that I deem no longer usable. I have been ruthlessly going through drawers and carefully checking for changes in smell, texture and consistency, and if things no longer seem right I throw away the contents and recycle the packaging. All of these things featured here either smelled weird, now had strange textures, or had hardened. Some of these things are very old, and I just didn't feel comfortable using them any longer. You will note, for instance, that there are five Bobbi Brown eye shadow singles from back when they made round screw-top lids, and among them are the originals that came without clear see-through lids!
