September Empties 2021

Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

I somehow thought that I would have used up more products in September, but it has been a long and stressful month at work, and I have been a bit too tired and overworked to do much in the way of pampering. I managed to finish up a couple of facial sprays, but the remainder of the products were related to washing, sanitizing and moisturizing my hands.

Here is what I manages to finish in September:

Farmhouse Fresh Vitamin Berry Facial Tonic ($36.00 for 3.5 oz. from Farmhouse Fresh): is an alcohol-free facial tonic with, "an instant natural filter effect that makes pores appear as if they never existed at all." Additionally, this antioxidant-rich tonic remarkably boosts the moisture content of the skin, smooths it, and provides "vital nourishment from aronia berries." I love using facial mists, and this one is not only incredibly refreshing, and appropriate to use when I need a little pick-me-up, but it also does an enviable job setting my makeup during the day, or enhancing the absorption of my face oils a face creams during the morning and evening. It is soothing and such a pleasure to use, and the delectable berry aroma is such a treat to the senses. Purchase Again? While I thoroughly enjoyed this, and would happily use it again, it will be quite a while before I need to purchase any more products of this sort.

This beautiful toner, which contains distilled water and Rose Flower Oil, hydrates and nourishes the skin and leaves skin feeling soft and refreshed. The fine mist, which has the most delectable rose aroma, refreshes the skin and leaves it dewy and luminous. This spray also can be used to help set your makeup, and when refrigerated it gives skin a nice pick-me-up throughout the day! Purchase Again? I think that I have one unopened bottle left!
Spongellé Hand Defense Hand Sanitizer Sea Salt Rose ($12.00 from Spongellé): Rather than drying out the hands, as many hand sanitizers do, this one moisturizes and protects the skin as it kills germs with its 70% alcohol formulation. Vitamin E and Glycerine moisturize and protect the skin, while the complex rose aroma delights the senses, and these are such uncustomary attributes for a hand sanitizer. It has a wonderful light gel consistency that melts into the skin immediately– leaving behind a truly lovely veil of fragrance. Purchase Again? ABSOLUTELY!

Molton Brown Comice Pear & Wild Honey Hand Cream: Molton Brown is unquestionably one of my favorite luxury body care brands, and their hand creams have long ranked among my all-time favorites. Their limited edition Comice Pear & Wild Honey Hand Cream has an utterly delectable aroma of honeyed pears that is otherworldly, and perfect for the season. The nourishing formula deeply moisturizes, conditions and soothes dry skin– leaving it soft, smooth and supple. Purchase Again? I would, but it is no longer available since it was limited edition.

Baylis & Harding Elements Hand Washes are new gorgeously aromatic hand soaps that are sumptuous, luxurious and incredibly affordable. At a mere $3.97 for 16.9 oz. bottles, you will feel as though you are using extremely pricy luxe soaps that should be reserved for only the most special occasions. Each Hand Wash has a complex fragrance profile, and each one is striking and lovely. The formula thoroughly cleans the skin without ever stripping it, and the aroma delights the senses.

Baylis & Harding Fresh Lemon and Mint Luxury Hand Wash ($3.97 for 16.9 oz. from Walmart): "This citrus herbal creation features orange, lemon and lime in the top and leads to orange flower, basil and fresh herbal accords. This luxurious hand wash will leave your hands feeling invigorated and beautifully fragranced." Purchase Again? Without a doubt!

Baylis & Harding Dark Amber & Fig Luxury Hand Wash ($3.97 for 16.9 oz. from Walmart): "A blend of deep amber, cedar and fig notes infused with nourishing Vitamin E. This luxurious hand wash will leave your hands feeling invigorated and beautifully fragranced." Purchase Again? Absolutely!

Overall Assessment: Not an impressive month for skincare product use, but I definitely finished up lots of products to keep my hands clean, sanitized and moisturized! What did you use up, toss out, give away or return in September? Any great finds, or total duds to report?

August Empties Galore

Purchased & Press Samples (Affiliate Links)

August was a good month for using up lots of largely used up products. I was busy working and didn't do much in the way of masking, but I still managed to use up a good many things before they began started to lose efficacy or go bad. I should note that I have been using things that I rally enjoyed a lot, and therefore there aren't any duds in the selection that you see. However, I won't be repurchasing many of the products any time soon simply because I have far too many products to use up in each category before buying more. Here is what I finished up in August:

Derma E Blue Light Shield Spray ($16.95 for 2 oz. from Derma E and Ulta): is intended to help reduce the effects of environmental aggressors– including blue light exposure caused by our digital devices. In addition to helping mitigate the effects of digital pollution, these nourishing products hydrate, soften, smooth and help balance the skin. This spray, with its deep emerald hue, hydrates, refreshes and balances skin. While it has a balancing effect, it also hydrates– therefore, it never dries out the skin as many balancing products do. Additionally, it can be used to set makeup– which is a wonderful added benefit. Purchase Again? I just opened a fresh new bottle.

Derma E CREATE Skin Beneficial Mist ($18.95-$18.99 for 1 oz. from Derma E): is a wonderfully refreshing and stimulating blend of Rosemary, Ginger, Spearmint– an inspiring amalgam of essential oils that are a pleasure to the senses. A touch of Cardamom, which helps promote focus and clarity, comes through in the base notes, and it adds a touch of spice to this beautiful blend. Purchase Again? More than likely, I really loved using this!

Farmaesthetics Sweet Milk & Chamomile Flowers Facial Exfoliate ($28.00 for 4 oz. from Farmaaesthetics): This beautiful exfoliating cleanser begins its life as an ultra fine powder that achieves a creamy, aromatic lather when mixed with water. The light abrasion, coupled with the lactic acid, gently eliminates and dissolves dead skin cells, unclogs congested pores, and reveals soft, supple and luminous skin. Furthermore, it is neither stripping, nor too abrasive, and is gentle enough to be used every day. It also can be left on the skin as a deeper cleansing mask. The wonderful light Chamomile aroma is calming and very pleasant. Purchase Again? While I really enjoyed using this, I have too many products to use in this category.

Omorovicza Cleansing Foam ($82.00 for 150ml from Omorovicza, Nordstrom, Space NK and Saks Fifth Avenue): I do not usually review deluxe samples, or really comment on the if I haven't used the product long enough to really evaluate its claims, efficacy or whether I really like it. However, this decadent cleanser was such a treat to use that I coveted it down to the last drop. In fact, right after I took this picture, I cut the tube open and used every single drop. It is a wonderfully gentle cleanser with a satisfying lather, but it is not in the least bit drying, stripping or irritating to the skin. Described as, "Refreshing cleansing foam for a deep, yet gentle, daily cleanse"– this cleanser is an absolute treat to use. Purchase Again? It is quite pricey, but I would consider purchasing it during a sale.

Blüh Alchemy Multi C Serum ($140.00 for 1 oz. from Boxwalla): This antioxidant-rich creamy gel-based Vitamin C serum is lightweight, fast absorbing and it has a delectable warm dreamy aroma. It is filled with botanical actives and peptides that deliver potent and bioactive Vitamin C to help plump, brighten and firm the skin. It combines, "a stable cellular extraction of wild harvested Kakadu plum (which is one of the highest sources of botanical, bioactive Vitamin C), with a stable Vitamin C ester (Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate) and then enhances the effectiveness of all that Vitamin C goodness with Kangaroo Paw Flower which is rich in Ferulic Acid." Furthermore, it is formulated to strengthen capillaries, increase collagen production, deeply hydrate, and to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone. Purchase Again? YES! This is an extraordinary Vitamin C serum!

Herbivore Orchid Facial Oil ($64.00 for 1.7 oz. from NordstromCredo BeautySephoraDermstore and Revolve): Formulated for normal skin, this gorgeous lightweight and fast absorbing oil leaves skin soft, silky smooth, hydrated and with a pronounced dewy glow. The antioxidant and Omega-rich formula nourishes and protects the skin, while the delectable Camellia and Jasmine aroma delights the senses. The fractionated Coconut Oil, which is the carrier oil, is used in this effective formulation to ensures that this elixir effortlessly melts into the skin without leaving behind a greasy residue. Purchase Again? Not likely because I have too many open face oils to use first, but I really liked this oil a lot.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal UV Defense Moisturizer ($31.00 for 1.69 oz. from VichyUltaAmazonDermstore and Target): is a lightweight daily moisturizer that keeps skin wonderfully hydrated while offering a broad spectrum SPF 30. This all-in-one SPF moisturizer has a high enough SPF that I do not feel the need to use another sunscreen, but I do have to reapply it every 80 minutes as I would with a regular sunscreen. This is a chemical sunscreen– using Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 5%,  Octisalate 5% and  Octocrylene 7%– therefore, if you prefer physical sunscreens then you probably won't want to use this French Pharmacy favorite. Purchase Again? Probably the next time that I need a sunscreen for my face.

Vitabrid C¹² Deep Cleansing Shampoo Shot Pre-Shampoo Treatment: This Deep Cleansing Shampoo Shot is formulated to deeply clean the scalp and to effectively exfoliate dead skin cells without stripping or drying the scalp or hair. The gel transforms into a milky emulsion when water is introduced, and it can be used before you use shampoo, or you can mix it with your shampoo. It rinses clean and really refreshes the scalp. Purchase Again? I think that they discontinued it because it is no longer available on their website. This stuff was great!

Inna Organic Cedarwood Shampoo ($52.58 for 8.3 fl. oz. 2 pack from the Inna Organic Amazon Store): This is a wonderful shampoo for dry and damaged hair, and while my hair is not damaged, it is dry and curly, and therefore it requires added moisture. This shampoo has a rich and creamy lather, but it is neither stripping, nor does it leave behind a greasy residue. Instead, it thoroughly cleanses the hair and leaves it soft and hydrated. It has a lovely woodsy aroma that is intoxicating, but if you don't like woodsy aromas, then this wonderful shampoo probably isn't for you. Purchase Again? I have too many shampoos to use before I purchase any more, but I really loved using this one.
Spongellé Hand Defense Hand Wash Infused Buffer ($14.00 each or $56.00 for a 4-pack from Spongellé): This is a wonderful new addition to the Spongellé line, and this launch offers a perfect way to thoroughly wash hands during the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, you won't mind how often that you need to wash your hands given that these soap infused sponges thoroughly clean and exfoliate, plus they get into every hard to reach spot. Additionally, they don't strip the skin, but instead they leave it hydrated, soft and smooth. The four available scents are delicious, and the creamy lather is incredibly satisfying to the touch. Spongellé suggests that each sponge offers 40+ washes, but I always find that I get more washes out of all of their products than they suggest. Purchase Again? Yes!

Farmhouse Fresh Pink Moon Body Wash & Bubble Bath ($19.00 for 8.4 oz. plastic BPA-free bottle from Farmhouse Fresh): This sulfate-free, creamy foaming body wash thoroughly cleansing skin without stripping it in the least. In fact, skin is self soft, smooth and silky after use. The antioxidant-rich and nourishing formula hydrates skin, but leaves behind no greasy film or residue, and it is emollient enough that I use it to shave my legs. The aroma is a sugary floral that is utterly delectable. Purchase Again? I have quite a few body washes and bubble baths to use before I consider purchasing more, but I would definitely use this one again!

LAVANILA The Healthy Deodorant ($14.00 for 1.7 oz. from Ulta): Though I have occasionally used mainstream deodorants, I do prefer to avoid the chemicals. LAVANILA makes wonderful healthy deodorants that are effective and smell wonderful (though they also make an unscented variant for sensitive skin). I use their deodorants more than any other, and just love them! Purchase Again? I already opened a new one! As long as they make them, I will buy them!
Overall Assessment: I doubt that I will do this well in September because I am not currently using too many largely used up products, but we'll see by the end of next month! What did you use up, toss out, give away or return in August? Were there any great product discoveries, or real duds, that you want to share?

February 2021 Empties Galore!

Press Sample and Purchased (Affiliate Links)

Though February is a short month, I managed to use up quite a few products. However, you will note that I disproportionately used up products for the bath more than anything else, and that was largely because I took a lot of baths from December through February. It was cold at night, and after long days on Zoom I sought refuge in a nice therapeutic soak! Here are the products that I finished up in February.

Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser ($12.00 for 1 oz., $37.00 for 4 oz and $45.00 for 6.76 oz from SukiAmazonBirchboxiHerb and SkinStore): Years ago it was my only daily cleanser, and then I started LSBB and began using a far wider range of products and somehow forgot about who much I loved this gem of an exfoliating facial cleanser. The lovely formula, which has the intoxicating scent of organic lemongrass extract, uses natural sugar to exfoliate the dead skin cells leaving your skin soft and silky smooth. I find it non-stripping and non-drying for my normal/combination skin, but if you have dry skin you would likely want to use it less often. I like to activate the light lather in my hands, which also breaks down some of the sugar, then with the lightest touch I massage it into my skin and rinse thoroughly. I use it a few times a week, and I always look forward to it since it is such a delectable treat to the skin and the senses. Purchase Again? Without hesitation!

VENeffect Firming Neck & Décolleté Creme ($155.00 for 2 oz. from VENeffect and Dermstore): is a rich and emollient, yet fast absorbing, luxurious cream that was specifically formulated to address the needs of the delicate skin of the neck and décolleté. It has a silky-smooth ultra luxurious texture that is rich enough to impart high levels of moisture, but it leaves behind no greasy residue. It is fragrance-free– therefore those among you with fragrance sensitivities can experience all of the benefits from this cream without being inundated by unwanted fragrance, and it also will not interfere with fragrances that perfume-wearers put on and around the neck and décolleté. Purchase Again? This is a really wonderful cream, but I have several others to use up before I consider buying another.

Charlotte Tilbury Rock 'N' Kohl Eyeliner Pencil in Velvet Violet ($27.00 for oz. from Charlotte TilburySephoraNordstromBergdorf GoodmanBloomingdale'sBeautylishSelfridgesCult Beauty and John Lewis): This is unquestionably one of my most used pencils, and it is one of the most perfect purple eyeliners that I have used. It can be built up for greater pigmentation and saturation, but it can also be worn more sparingly, and therefore less intensely. The formula is creamy and lush, and it doesn't irritate my sensitive eyes. Purchase Again? I already have!

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Away Concealer ($32.00 from CharlotteTilburyNordstromSephoraBloomingdale'sBergdorf GoodmanBeautylishCult BeautyHarrodsHarvey NicholsJohn Lewis and Net-A-Porter): The formula is lightweight, non-creasing and it adds just a touch of luminescence to optically blur imperfections, dark circles or blemishes without being glittery. It has a nice large spongy applicator tip, and a twist dispenser, but you want to be sure not to over twist otherwise you will waste a lot of product. I apply it right after my eye cream has absorbed, and only need a little to brighten under my eye area. On those days when I get little sleep, and awaken to unsightly dark circles, this concealer does an enviable job concealing them and in giving my eyes a radiant glow. It neither settles into fine lines, nor does it become cakey. Furthermore, it does not dry out the delicate skin under my eyes, and it lasts all day on me. It offers buildable coverage, if you desire added opacity to conceal blemishes or imperfections, and it blends out perfectly. Purchase Again? Absolutely!

Molton Brown Ylang Ylang Body Wash ($32.00 for 10 oz. from Molton Brown, Neiman Marcus, Amazon and Bluemercury): Described as, "Rich, Peaceful. Harmonious," this deep, royal purple body wash is utterly divine. The scent is an elegant, rich and musky Ylang-Ylang that fills the entire bathroom with its otherworldly aroma. It relaxes the mind and body, and leaves the skin silky-smooth and soft. It is, without question, one of my all-time favorite body washes, and it also works very well as a bubble bath. Purchase Again? Absolutely, I love their products, and this one is particularly special.

Mustela Nourishing Cleansing Gel with Cold Cream ($11.99-$14.00 for 10.4 oz. from Mustela, Amazon, Target and Walmart): One might imagine that the inclusion of cold cream would mean that this is a non-lathering cleansing gel, and yet it has the most satisfying creamy lather. It has the same pleasant, warm and creamy aroma, but it is neither cloying, nor too long lasting. It leaves skin soft, smooth, supple and hydrated, and it is never drying or stripping. Purchase Again? I already have another bottle! I am a huge fan of Mustela products, and will continue to purchase from them!

Nectar Bath Treats Bubble Scoops are ice cream scoop shaped bubble baths that are such a delight to use. They come in 7 different scents, of which I have 2 to share. their delectable aromas and luxurious bubble baths are a treat to the skin and the senses. While we are in the middle of the summer, and this may not seem like the perfect season to soak in a warm bubble bath, I have found the opposite to be true. Given that we are in the midst of a global pandemic, I find that anything that soothes my spirit and calms my nerves is quite welcome. I am grateful to have these wonderful bath treats right now, and I am thoroughly enjoying them!

Nectar Bath Treats Peachy Lemon Bubble Bath Scoop Sundae ($20.00 from Nectar USA): The peachy lemon aroma is absolutely delicious, and coupled with the hydrating and creamy bubbles this is such a treat to the skin and the senses. Skin is left soft, smooth and hydrated. Nerves are left soothed and calmed! Purchase Again? Just as soon as I used up my other bath products!

Nectar Bath Treats Lychee Hibiscus Triple Bubble Bath Scoop Sundae ($20.00 from Nectar USA): The sweet and warm floral aroma is so delicious that it embodies the idea of a warm summer breeze carrying floral essences. The rich and creamy lather moisturizes the skin and leaves it soft and smooth. Shut your eyes and enjoy every moment of this luxurious bubble bath, it is dreamy! Purchase Again? Once I finish up my remaining bath products!

Nectar Sparkling Lights Bath Bomb Set was a great holiday gift set that I thoroughly enjoyed. These fizzing bath bombs come in 6 delectable scents that fill the bathroom with their magnificent individual aromas. They were fun to use and they left my skin soft and hydrated. Purchase Again? I wish that I could, but this was a LE set for the holidays, but I managed to use to full boxes (12 bath bombs) between December and February.
Kneipp Joint & Muscle Herbal Arnica Bath Oil ($20.00 for 3.38 oz. from SkinCare RX): If you have sore muscles in need of relief, then this wonderful Arnica Bath Oil offers relief, and the added benefit is that skin is left soft and moisturized. The aromatic Rosemary, Pine and Arnica Oils are warming and uplifting. Purchase Again? I have too many bath oils to use before I purchase more.

Kneipp Relaxing Lavender Bath Oil ($16.00 for 3.38 oz. from Kneipp): If you love the aroma of Lavender Oil, then you will be over the moon when you envelop your senses with this calming bath oil. In addition to leaving the skin soft, smooth and hydrated, it leaves quiets the mind and calms the spirit, and for this reason I love using it right before going to sleep. Purchase Again? Eventually.

By simply adding a couple of caps to your bath, or massaging a few drops onto strategic zones of your body (torso, arms etc.) before stepping into the shower– your senses are enveloped by the many benefits of this otherworldly aromatherapeutic experience. It restores a sense of well-being, balances the bond and body, and soothes muscular tension. Purchase Again? At some point because this was such a luxe treat to use!

Mustela Multi-Sensory Bubble Bath ($6.99- $20.00 for 6.76-25.35 oz. from TargetAmazonBed, Bath & BeyondCVS and Walmart): This bubble bath is super hydrating and it very gentle on even the most sensitive skin. My skin is left clean, soft, smooth and pampered. It has a light and clean aroma that is very pleasant and relaxing, but it is not overwhelming in the least bit. Purchase Again? Definitely!

Olbas Herbal Bath ($9.49 for 4 oz. and $16.99 for 8 oz. from Olbas, and Swanson Health): If you have a cold, then using this in a hot bath will relief a lot of discomfort. It helps open up sinus passages, and gives yo an overall sense of wellbeing. This lovely Herbal Bath has a wonderful foam,  and its invigorating peppermint-eucalyptus aroma awakens the senses and helps to open up sinus passages. Furthermore, it soothes achy muscles and refreshes the senses. You definitely want to make sure to avoid contact with your eyes! Purchase Again? Possibly when I need more bath products.

Phytomer Oligomer Pure Lyophilized Sea Water Bath ($20.58 from Amazon and Phytomer): Phyomer suggests that this soak has "All the benefits of a dip in the ocean in your own home. An ideal opportunity to relax, re-balance and re-energize." I liked how relaxing this was right before bed. Purchase Again? It never strips the skin, or leaves it taut, but instead leaves it comfortable and thoroughly cleansed. Purchase Again? I would, but I think that it has been discontinued.

Farmhouse Fresh Fluffy Bunny Shea Butter Hand Cream ($15.00 for 2 oz. from Farmhouse Fresh and Amazon): Oh what a lovely hand cream this is! Empties October 2020

Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

It is really hard to believe that October is almost over, and that we are entering the holiday season. You can see that I finished very little in the way of skincare, or body care, and I think that I was so bogged down at work that there didn't seem to be enough hours in the day to take that extra bit of time. I did, however, burn candles and use room sprays and essential oils to help me relax after I finished working for the day. Here is what I used up in October:

Vintner's Daughter Active Botanical Serum For Face ($195.00 for  30 ml/ 1 oz. from Space NK and Cult Beauty (210.00€): This lightweight and fast absorbing golden elixir boasts a delectable warm and earthy aroma from which one can detect the Rose Damascena Absolute, Jasminum Grandiflorum Flower and a fusion of the remaining essential oils. The intoxicating aromatherapeutic experience delights and calms the senses while it quiets the mind. I find that I slow down and inhale deeply as I massage in into my skin, and that any residual stress that I may have been experiencing just melts away. This ritual is utterly relaxing, and it heightens the sensory experience of using this luxe oil. This serum significantly bolsters radiance and it leaves skin silky smooth, soft and supple. I note a distinct brightening and evening of my skin tone, a lifting and softening on my fine lines, and an undeniable increase in the long term hydration of my skin. Repurchase? I just opened a new bottle!

Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser ($12.00 for 1 oz., $37.00 for 4 oz and $45.00 for 6.76 oz from SukiDermstoreAmazonBirchboxiHerb and SkinStore): I am madly in love with this cleanser and years ago it was my only daily cleanser. Then I started LSBB and began using a far wider range of products and somehow forgot about who much I loved this gem of an exfoliating facial cleanser. Repurchase? I already purchased a full-size jar!

Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks ($70.00 for 20 discs from Colbert MDDermstore, Olivela and Amazon): I have regularly used various types of facial exfoliating pads for many years, and have to confess that my experience with Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks was a real game changer for me all of those years ago. While most of the solution soaked exfoliating pads that I have used are thin and double sided, Colbert MD has reimagined its form and instead has opted for a very plush and thick single sided pad. The generously saturated pre-moistened disks include a small tab on the back that makes holding the disk easy, and allows one to maintain effortless control.

The combination of the mild microdermabrasion action from the surface of the pad coupled with the enzyme action of the solution immediately and effectively encourages cell turnover that aids in the promotion of collagen production. Skin, unobstructed by a proliferation of dead skin cells, is then able to effortlessly and effectively absorb skincare products. The end result is unbelievably soft, smooth, supple and luminous skin. Purchase Again? I recently opened a new box, and will definitely purchase another after!

SENTEURS D'ORIENT Hammam Soap in Oriental Gardenia ($36.00 for 7.2 oz. from and Net-A-Porter): Simply put, this is the most beautiful soap imaginable. From the gorgeous design of the soap itself to the otherworldly aroma of the gardenia used to make this ultra-luxe bar– this is the most delectable soap in which to luxuriate. The rich and creamy lather gently cleanses the skin without stripping it, while the beautiful aroma delights the senses. I love that this soap is on a rope– since hanging it allows it to dry out between uses. It smells like the embodiment of gardenia in a warm summer breeze, and I have used it nearly every single day since opening it. If you love the smell of gardenia, you will become as obsessed with this soap as I have. Repurchase? I have another one of their soaps in another scent that I will open soon!

Farmhouse Fresh Oatmeal Goats Milk Soap ($12.50 for 4.5 oz. from Farmhouse Fresh): Farmhouse Fresh Oatmeal Goats Milk Soap features goats milk from California and certified organic oats from Kansas. This rich, emollient and creamy goats milk soap has a wonderful oatmeal aroma, and it's filled with vitamins A and B12, coconut, rice bran, olive oil and buttery fats that nourish and hydrate the skin without ever stripping it. Furthermore, the oatmeal is very gentle on sensitive skin, and I like to use the lather to shave because it is so rich and creamy. There are actual pieces of oatmeal throughout the soap that facilitates light exfoliation. Repurchase? Probably at some point, but I have a drawer filled with soaps that I need to use first.

Dove White Beauty Bar ($2.99-$12.99 for 2-14 bar packs from Target and Walgreens): This gentle, creamy cleansing bar contains ¼ moisturizing cream that leaves skin soft smooth and very clean. Repurchase? Most definitely! This is a staple for my family!

kms California MOIST REPAIR  Leave-In Conditioner ($19.00 from select salons) This deeply penetrates hair and helps detangle, moisturize and fights frizz. I simply spray it on wet or dry hair for added manageability and moisture. The formula is lightweight, the results are immediate, and the effects are long-lasting. Repurchase? I think that I have another bottle in a cabinet!

RITUALS Pure Hammam Shampoo: If you are looking for a color safe volumizing shampoo that gives hair lots of shine, then look no further. Hair is thoroughly cleansed, but never stripped, and the refreshing scent of Eucalyptus is uplifting, but not overpowering. A lovely shampoo, indeed! Repurchase? I don't think that they make this particular shampoo anymore, sadly!

Inspired by the beauty of Costa Rica, this elixir is a lightweight and moisturizing body tonic that has a tropical scent that is punctuated by the aromas of peach, apple, melon and pineapple blended with jasmine, cedar and musk. The aroma sits close to the skin, and it is neither overpowering, nor is it in the least bit cloying. Repurchase? Maybe at some point, but it is more of a summer product.

The wonderful aroma is a calming light scent that defies a precise description. September 2020 Empties

Press Sample & Purchased (Affiliate Links)

It should come as no surprise that over the last six months, while working from home that I have used a lot of products. I suppose being home all day has inspired greater use, and therefore more self-care during these trying times. Here are the products that I finished up in September:

1) African Botanics Baobab Clay Oxygenating Cleanser ($60.00 for 3.38 oz./100ml. from African Botanics, Bluemercury and Credo Beauty): This luxurious, lightly lathering and water soluble cleanser, which has a silky clay/gel texture, is unlike any other cleanser in my current collection. It gently balances skin, without stripping it, and it expertly draws out impurities and unclogs congested pores. Furthermore, it calms irritated skin while reducing inflammation and redness.

The African Clay gently heals acne and blemishes without drying out or traumatizing the skin, and it effectively draws out impurities, and regulates sebum and oil production. It contains the essential oils of Sandalwood and Cedar that help to calm skin, while Jasmine blossoms serve to fade scars. The Green Rooibos Tea, which is a potent antioxidant, also serves to reduce redness and irritation and is known to help heal skin inflammation, and to help treat skin conditions such as eczema.

Skin is left visibly toned, even in texture, balanced and lifted, but it is neither left dry nor in the least bit taut. In fact, the antioxidant-rich formula leaves skin plumped and protected, while the rich African Botanicals, Marula Oil and vitamins hydrate and nourish the skin.  Furthermore, skin is rendered remarkably smooth, soft as silk, and with a pronounced clarity and luminosity. It is also a fantastic treat to mix it with African Botanics Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish for a light exfoliation. This cleanser has a wonderful earthy fragrance that greatly enhances the sensory experience of using this beautiful cleanser that is formulated for all skin types. Purchase Again? YES!

2) African Botanics Pure Marula Cleansing Oil ($60.00 for 3.4 oz. from African Botanics, Net-A-Porter, Revolve and Credo Beauty): This lightweight oil is an antioxidant and omega-rich oil that was formulated to gently cleanse and purify even the most sensitive skin types while removing makeup, dead skin cells as well as pollution and other impurities. It is so gentle and effective that it neither dehydrates the skin, nor causes irritation. It is suitable for combination, sensitive and dry skin types. Repurchase? I already opened a deluxe travel size!
3) Rodial Super Acids X-Treme Pore Shrink Cleansing Pads (These appear to have been discontinued): The pads themselves are very generously soaked with Rodial's magical serum, and will unquestionably give you more than enough product to use on your face. After a single use I could see that these were no ordinary exfoliating pad because rather than simply lifting and removing dead skin and dirt it, and leaving skin somewhat stripped as some exfoliating pads do, SUPER ACIDS X-treme Pore Shrink Cleansing Pads leave skin hydrated thanks to the Beneficial biotilys probiotic technology. After use my skin reveals a pronounced clarity and radiance, but it also appears lifted and more refined. While I wouldn't say that my skin appears poreless, I would say that my skin appears more toned and taut-- and my pores are less noticeable (though I wouldn't say that enlarged pores is an issue for me). Repurchase? I would, if Rodial made them again.

4) Colbert MD Tone Control Facial Disks ($80.00 for 20 disks from Colbert MD, Amazon, Dermstore and Olivela): Most of the solution soaked exfoliating pads that I have used are thin and double sided, Colbert MD has broken this mold by opting for a very plush and thick single-sided pad. The generously saturated pre-moistened disks include a small tab on the back that makes holding them very easy, and it allows one to maintain effortless control. While I thought that I had achieved exfoliating pad nirvana with the Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks, I discovered that Colbert MD Tone Control Facial Disks are a whole different level of paradigm shifting exfoliating pads. Not only do these pre-moistened disks provide effective, and gentle, microdermabrasion from the surface texture of the pad, but they also encourage cell turnover that aids in the promotion of collagen production. Skin, unobstructed by a proliferation of dead skin cells, is then able to effortlessly and effectively absorb skincare products. The end result is unbelievably silky soft, smooth, supple and luminous skin. Additionally, Colbert MD Tone Control Facial Disks are saturated with ingredients that even out skin tone, lighten dark spots (hyperpigmentation), soothe redness and brighten the complexion. Repurchase? I have a full box open!

5) Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks ($70.00 for 20 discs from Colbert MDDermstore, Olivela and Amazon): I have regularly used various types of facial exfoliating pads for many years, and have to confess that my experience with Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks was a real game changer for me all of those years ago.

I have a full box open!

6) Arbonne RE9 Advanced Prepwork Gel Eye Masks ($50.00 for 60 gel masks from Arbonne): These soothing and cooling gel eye masks, which boast an antioxidant-rich formula, de-puff the delicate skin below the eye while softening the appearance of fine lines and they offer serious hydration. If you are a fan of eye masks, these are a must-try! These gel eye masks have no detectable aroma. Repurchase? I have more gel eye masks to finish up before I contemplate purchasing more, but I really like these, and would definitely use them again.

7) Patchology Flashpatch Rejuvenating Eye Gels ($15.00 for 5 pack from PatchologyNordstromSpace NKBloomingdale'sUltaDermstoreRevolveSkinstore and Bluemercury): Patchology Flashpatch Rejuvenating Eye Gels, which are are biodegradable, cruelty-free and vegan, effectively cool and de-puff the delicate area below the eyes, and they moisturize, soothe and refresh. Furthermore, each time I use them I notice that my dark circles are diminished, my fine lines are softened, and that my skin boasts a dewy luminosity. Repurchase? I will definitely consider it once I use up this box and the other eye gel masks in my drawer!

8) Hero Cosmetics Mighty Patch The Original Acne Stickers ($12.99 for 36 and $21.99 for 72 from Hero CosmeticsSkinstoreiHerbAmazonMadewellTargetWalmartBloomingdale's and Thrive Market): These are phenomenally effective, and in fact they work so fast that I was actually astounded by the results. It has been very hot here in LA, and after sweating profusely while cleaning out the garage I ended up with a sizable pimple on my chin. I had a long Zoom work meeting the following day and I knew that I needed to do something to try treat this large blemish– so I took a look at the spot treatment products that I had and found these. I washed my face before going to sleep and placed one of these little hydrocolloid disks on my pimple and then went to bed. When I woke up in the morning I was shocked to see that pimple was nearly flat and had almost completely gone away. I simply couldn't be happier with the results. Purchase Again? I have another pack to use up first, but I would definitely consider repurchasing this in the future.
9) Lancôme Rénergie Lift Multi-Action Light Day Cream ($99.00 for 1.7 oz. from Lancôme): This thick day cream is surprisingly lightweight and fast-absorbing. It has a luscious silky-smooth texture that melts into the skin effortlessly, and leaves it immediately looking and feeling soft, smooth supple, hydrated and moisturized, and those benefits last all day. It includes an SPF 15 for added protection, but since I live in Southern California, I never leave the house wearing anything less than an SPF 30. I should not that it does have a light semi-floral fragrance, but it isn't in the least bit cloying or long-lasting. Repurchase? While I liked it a lot, I would opt for a higher SPF day cream instead.

10) Tata Harper Retinoic Nutrient Face Oil ($132.00 for 1 oz. from Space NKSephoraThe Detox MarketCredo Beauty and goop): This antioxidant-rich face oil was conceived to hydrate dull, lackluster skin that is in need of brightening and hydrating. The nutrient-rich formula restores moisture to irritated, dry and chapped skin, and is the perfect choice for all skin types– especially during the colder months of the year when dehydration is more prevalent. The oil is lightweight, fast absorbing and it leaves behind no oily residue whatsoever. Skin is left plumped, hydrated, unbelievably soft, smooth and supple. Repurchase? OMG, YES!

11) Kneipp Lavender Bath Bar (Was $5.00 for 4.76 oz. from Kneipp): This gentle bar boasts a lovely lather without stripping the skin in the least. Great in the shower or taking up pride of place at your bathroom sink, this luxurious aromatic bar is a delight to the senses. Repurchase? I would in a second, but it doesn't appear that they are still making this wonderful bar!

12) Farmhouse Fresh Soaps:

Farmhouse Fresh Blueberry Chia Seed Whole Milk Soap ($12.50 for 4.5 oz. from Farmhouse Fresh): Farmhouse Fresh Blueberry Chia Seed Whole Milk Soap features blueberries from Oregon, whole milk from the Midwest and chia seeds. This is a rich and emollient whole milk bar that also contains Vitamins A and B12, rice bran, olive oil, coconut and buttery fats that nourish and hydrate the skin without ever stripping it. The rich lather makes this great for shaving legs and underarms as well. The delectable blueberry aroma seriously smells good enough to eat! Repurchase? I definitely will!

Farmhouse Fresh Pistachio Cream Goats Milk Soap ($12.50 for 4.5 oz. from Farmhouse Fresh): Farmhouse Fresh Pistachio Cream Goats Milk Soap features California Pistachios and goats milk.
This is a rich and emollient whole milk bar that also contains Vitamins A and B12, rice bran, olive oil, coconut and buttery fats that nourish and hydrate the skin without ever stripping it. The rich lather makes this great for shaving legs and underarms, while the creamy pistachio aroma fills the shower with its delicious sweet scent. Repurchase? Definitely!

13) Nubian Heritage Raw Shea Butter Body Wash ($12.99 for 13 oz. from Nubian Heritage): Between the creamy texture and the warm milky aroma, this nourishing and hydrating body wash is a delight to use. It thoroughly cleans the skin, and it neither strips, nor does it leave behind an oily residue. Instead, it leaves skin soft, silky smooth and hydrated. Repurchase? I have a brand new bottle waiting to be opened!

14) African Muti Mud Mineral Body Scrub (On Sale for $20.00 from goop): Marula African Muti Mud Mineral Body Scrub is an ultra-luxe mineral and phytonutrient-rich Muti Mud-based scrub, which is inspired by an ancient spa ritual. It has a delectable light cocoa scent that ignites the senses while it detoxifies and purifies the skin. Its exfoliating particles are at once ultra-efficient and gentle, making the perfect choice for all skin types– including the most sensitive. While African Botanics Marula African Muti Mud Mineral Body Scrub gently removes dead skin cells, it not only leaves skin soft, supple and moisturized, but it also leaves it noticeably luminous with improved texture. Unlike many oil-based body scrubs, this one neither leaves an oil-slick on the skin, nor on the shower floor– therefore there is no added clean-up after use. If ever there was a perfect body scrub, it is this one.

There are two wonderful ways that one can use this scrub: First, in the traditional way one can apply to dry or damp skin and gently massage it in a circular motion. The second method, which is how I am using it here, involves applying it to dry skin and leaving it on for 10-15 minutes. This method allows the Muti Mud to detox the skin before the scrub is massaged into the skin in a circular motion. The results are astounding when used alone, but when used in conjunction with the rest of this spa treatment, the results are even more pronounced. Skin is left unbelievably silky smooth and soft. Repurchase? Most definitely! Especially on sale!

15) Dr. Canuso Daily Exfoliating Cleanser ($22.95 from Dr. Canuso): This is an amazing daily exfoliator that is specifically formulated for daily use on feet. Dr. Canuso makes the very important point that one should clean the shower floor with bleach in order to kill fungus that gets transferred to our feet, and this often neglected step with go a long way to eradicating foot fungus that one often associates with the gym, and not the home. With daily use, I quickly noted that my winter-worn calloused feet became soft and callous-free. While I do not have signs of foot fungus, I definitely noted a vast improvement in the condition of my feet. Repurchase? Perhaps at some point. I have used two tubes already, and really like this!

16) South of France Violet Bouquet Hand Wash (Available from South of France Natural Body Care and Amazon): This hand soap boasts a rich lather that is enriched with a proprietary blend of Coconut and Olive Oils and Mediterranean Sea Algae that moisturize and clean the skin without ever stripping or drying. It smells like violet candies, and is such a pleasure to use! Repurchase? Absolutely!

17) Dove Pink Beauty Bar ($2.99-$12.99 for 2-14 bar packs from Target and Walgreens): This creamy cleanser contains ¼ moisturizing cream to help make skin soft, smooth and hydrated. It doesn't strip skin in the least, nor does it leave it taut. Repurchase? No question! Their bars are a staple in my house!

18) L'Occitane Iris Bleu & Iris Blanc Hand Cream (Was $12.00 for 1 oz. Travel Size): This delectable and silky smooth hand cream, which is enriched with shea butter, nourishes and protects hands while leaving them beautifully fragranced. Repurchase? I don't think this is still available in th US, but I would definitely buy it again if I could find it!

19) Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream ($16.00 for 1 oz. from Amazon):Yu-Be products have a cult-following for good reason, and most who have entered the fold began with their famous Moisturizing Skin Cream. This is a thick, rich and concentrated cream that sinks into the skin quickly, and it makes short work of restoring dry skin to happy moisturized skin. A little goes a very long way, so even with regular use a tube or jar should last a while (unless of course you succumb to the temptation and slather it everywhere because it feel so good). Not only is Yu-Be a versatile cream that can be used on the body, face, and lips-- but it is also one of the 7 wonders of the world that can make the driest of hands and cuticles look and feel soft, supple, hydrated and restored. Like the divine Yu-Be Lip Balm, their Moisturizing Skin Cream also contains Camphor. The scent dissipates nearly immediately after it is applied to the skin, but if you are sensitive, allergic, or intolerant to this ingredient you should be aware that it is among the listed ingredients. I find the scent, albeit short lived, very pleasant and comforting. Repurchase? Eventually, yes!

20) May Lindstrom The Good Stuff Body Oil ($110.00 for 3.38 oz. from May Lindstrom): May's The Good Stuff Radiance Oil– it is unmistakably one of the most extraordinary body oils that I have ever tried, and to say that savor and covet it barely expresses the extent to which I am enamored of this gem.  Described as, "a rich and decadent marriage of cocoa, rose, lavender and ylang-ylang," this delicious blend of tantalizing and intoxicating aromas delight the senses while bathing the skin in luscious, rich moisture. This stunningly enigmatic oil delivers intense hydration to the body and hair, while calming and delighting the senses and calming the mind.

The delicious blend of antioxidant-rich plant, nut and essential oils deliver profound nourishment and hydration to the skin and hair immediately and effectively. The lightweight formula sinks into the skin effortlessly, without an oily residue, and it reveals an enviable lit-from-within ethereal glow. Skin is left velvety soft to the touch, sinfully supple, and dry skin gives way to utterly balanced and hydrated skin. The intoxicatingly beautiful aroma sits close to the skin and invites repeated and prolonged deep breaths. Repurchase? I can't currently find it on her website, and I am not sure if it is out of stock, or if it has been discontinued, but I would DEFINITELY buy this again!

21) Susanne Kaufmann Body Oil ($72.00 for 8.4 oz. from Space NK): I really liked the way that this oil made my skin feel, but I didn't have enough time with this oil to formulate a meaningful opinion. That said, I am very curious about this brand and want to try their products. Repurchase? Not based upon this sample, but I could definitely see trying it again.

22) Clarins Tonic Body Treatment Oil ($66.00 for 3.4 oz. from  Sephora): Again, this deluxe sample didn't provide me with enough time to formulate a meaningful opinion, but I did like using it. Repurchase? Not based upon my short testing period, but I would definitely be open to trying it again.

Overall Assessment: That is what I managed to finish in September, and I will be so busy with work in October that I don't know if I will be able to take as much time to pamper myself. What did you use up, toss out, give away or return in September. Any real winners or duds to report? Do tell!
