BEAUTY PRODUCT EMPTIES FOR MARCH 2022

Press Samples (Affiliate Links)

It's hard to believe that March 2022 has already come and gone, but now it is springtime! I didn't use as many skincare products as I thought that I might, but I still manages to work my way through the remainder of 9 full-size products. Here is what I finished up in March:

Potager Soap Co. Natural Secret Garden Soap ($8.98 for 4.5 oz. from Potager Soap Co.): Secret Garden is a wonderful amalgam of lavender, patchouli, geranium and rose petals. The notable pungency of the patchouli is tempered by the rose, geranium and lavender and the result is a warm, rich and creamy aroma that is an utter delight to the senses. The rich lather rinses clean, but never strips the skin. Purchase Again? YES! I already started using another soap from this wonderful company!

Baylis & Harding Rose & Geranium Natural Hand Wash ($5.99 each for 16.9 oz. from Target): is the perfect pick if you love the aroma of freshly cut roses with a slight twist of geranium. Their hand soaps are affordable and sustainable luxury washes that are a joy to use and they smell utterly delectable. Furthermore, they leave your hands soft and moisturized, rather than dry and stripped. Purchase Again? YES! I already opened another bottle!

AHAVA Mineral Botanic Velvet Cream Wash in Lotus & ChestnutThis body wash gently cleanses the skin without stopping it, or leaving it taut. It soothes and moisturizes the skin with macadamia oil, organic plant extracts and Dead Sea Minerals– leaving skin silky smooth. It has a delicious nutty, fruity aroma that I find intoxicatingly good! Purchase Again? I would, but they appear to have discontinued this scent!

African Botanics Marula Botanical Hand Cream ($55.00 for 2 oz. from African BotanicsNet-A-PorterBluemercury and Revolve): The ultra-emollient luxury oil-infused cream boasts a refreshingly creamy lightweight texture that sinks into the skin immediately and doesn't leave hands in the least bit greasy. If you adhere to the belief that one needs to use thick and greasy hand creams in order to stave-off and heal dry and chapped hands, then you will be astonished by the efficacy of this ingenious hand cream. In fact, I think that it is more accurate to classify Marula Botanical Hand Cream as a cutting-edge antioxidant-rich anti-aging serum/cream hybrid that protects, nourishes, hydrates, soothes, brightens and repairs the skin with great efficacy.

Not only are my hands soft, supple and ultra moisturized, but they are left with the type of pronounced luminosity that I have only ever experienced in luxurious serums and beauty oils for the face. The delectable warm and earthy scent heightens the sensory experience of using this luxe hand cream, but it does fade soon upon application, and therefore won't pose a problem for those among you who prefer scent-free products.

It is noteworthy that the formula is very concentrated, and the effects are very long-lasting– therefore a single tube goes a very very long way.  If you treat yourself to one new body product this season, then African Botanics Marula Botanical Hand Cream should be at the top of your list. I kid you not, this hand cream is that extraordinary. Purchase Again? YES! This is a truly amazing hand cream!

Shu Uemura Art of Hair Murato Volume Hydro-Texturing Mist ($42.00 for 3.3 oz. from Shu Uemura Art of Hair and Sephora): This texturizing spray adds volume to hair, and is perfect for making beachy waves. It has the same light aroma as the other products from this collection, but the scent dissipates very quickly. Purchase Again? DEFINITELY! I already miss it!

Briogeo Don't Despair Repair Deep Conditioning Mask ($38.00 for 8.2 oz. from Space NK, Sephora and Nordstrom): That I have naturally curly hair means that I must deeply condition it, and I must do so frequently. I need a deep conditioner that really hydrates my hair, but doesn't weigh it down, and that tames frizz and fly-aways. This mask is cruelty-free, as is Briogeo in general, and it contains 98% natural ingredients. There are no silicones to weigh down my hair, and it does not contain parabens, phthalates or artificial dyes. Additionally, it is safe for color treated and otherwise chemically processed hair. It deeply nourishes and hydrates my hair, gives it a glossy shine and leaves it unbelievably soft and manageable. Furthermore, it effectively detangles hair, and banishes frizz and flyaways. The rich and thick mask is concentrated, therefore you don't have to use a lot, and it has a delectable non-lingering aroma. I generally leave it on for about 10 minutes, but when I really want to take it to the next level I leave it on for 30-45 minutes. Purchase Again? It's at the top of my list once I finish a few more of my open hair masks.
LOVINAH Copper Peptide & EGF Pro-Aging Collagen Ampoules with Sea Kelp Bioferment ($125.00 for 4 x 5ml ampoules from LOVINAH, and Macy's): This is a "watery, supercharged serum with Copper Peptides and vegan Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF). Copper peptides are potent skin regeneration actives that improve the appearance of skin, helping to increase skin thickness & reducing the appearance of wrinkles. EGF has a multitude of benefits including the acceleration of skin healing, skin renewal & the slowing down of the thinning of skin. It helps to boost collagen & elastin in the skin." Note: This serum is like a booster serum and doesn't contain any lipid components. You can either layer under another water-based serum (and then oil on top) or directly under an oil. You can also add it like a booster to your moisturizer or serums (that do not contain acids) The only restriction is that it cannot be layered with vitamin C - L-Ascorbic acid, or added to any serum with vitamin C (oil soluble vitamin C esters are ok). Purchase Again? At some point, definitely.
May Lindstrom The Blue Cocoon Solid Oil Facial Concentrate ($180.00 for 1.69 oz. from goop): Aptly named, one immediately wants to be completely enveloped by this wondrous melting balm. While this balm evokes the color of the Adriatic Sea, this glistening gem melts into an irresistible oil serum upon being greeted by the warmth of the skin. This delectable anti-inflammatory multipurpose balm deeply nourished and hydrates the skin, eradicates redness and skin irritations and makes skin soft, supple, balanced, healed and luminous.

I cannot sufficiently underscore the extent to which this is a truly special skincare treat. This magical balm is unlike anything else that I have tried, and not only does it nourish and treat the skin, but it also creates the most heavenly sensory experience. I begin by slowly and deeply inhaling its aroma directly from the jar, and then I remove a tiny amount from the jar and warm it between my fingers before massaging it into my freshly cleansed and damp face, neck and décolleté. The botanical aroma is a warm and earthy amalgam of its ingredients from which slight traces of Vanilla Planifolia and Lavender emerge. The scent essentially defies a lucid description because it has an otherworldly aroma, and is unlike anything else that I have experienced.

Once this balm, which boasts the efficacy of the finest serums and beauty oils, sinks into the skin one immediately notices that their skin becomes ultra-hydrated, soft, supple and nourished. Furthermore, this ultra-luxe balm immediately calms sensitive skin that is reactive and easily irritated. It soothes and treats inflammation of all sorts, and is a wonderful choice for rosacea, eczema and acne-prone skin. The Blue Cocoon Beauty Balm Concentrate is also a great post-treatment, post-peel and post exfoliation product choice since its potent anti-inflammatory ingredients boast an efficacy that is seldom found in a single product.

This potent, antioxidant-rich balm is also the perfect choice if you seek ultra-effective anti-aging skincare products that are healthy and effective. It should also be mentioned that this multipurpose healing and nourishing balm can be used to spot treat irritated skin, and that it works extraordinarily well as an eye cream and lip balm.  Additionally, if you have dry skin, or dry patches you will be astonished by the speed with which these conditions will be reversed. The Blue Cocoon Beauty Balm Concentrate activates the senses, elevates the mood and transforms the skin. It is, indeed, a magical unicorn that is filled with healthy, potent actives that together perform miracles for the skin and the spirit. Purchase Again? It's on my list!
Spongellé Botanics Candle in Rose ($38.00 for 8 oz. from Spongellé): I love aromatic rose fragrances, and this one is particularly special. The Turkish Rose comes through in all of its glory, but the bottom notes add a creamy woodsy aroma and the top citrus note adds a touch of zing. It is one of my all-time favorite permutations of the perfected rose. Features: 100% Soy Wax | Hand-poured in the US | Special flickering wooden wick | Burns up to 50 hours | Purchase Again? I still have three of their candles left to use first, but this is definitely worth buying! Plus the rose aroma is utter perfection!

Overall Assessment: I should be finishing up a few more skincare products next month since I have nearly finished up a few more things this month, but we will see! What did you use up, toss out, give away or return in March? Do you have any duds or winners to report?

September 2020 Empties

Press Sample & Purchased (Affiliate Links)

It should come as no surprise that over the last six months, while working from home that I have used a lot of products. I suppose being home all day has inspired greater use, and therefore more self-care during these trying times. Here are the products that I finished up in September:

1) African Botanics Baobab Clay Oxygenating Cleanser ($60.00 for 3.38 oz./100ml. from African Botanics, Bluemercury and Credo Beauty): This luxurious, lightly lathering and water soluble cleanser, which has a silky clay/gel texture, is unlike any other cleanser in my current collection. It gently balances skin, without stripping it, and it expertly draws out impurities and unclogs congested pores. Furthermore, it calms irritated skin while reducing inflammation and redness.

The African Clay gently heals acne and blemishes without drying out or traumatizing the skin, and it effectively draws out impurities, and regulates sebum and oil production. It contains the essential oils of Sandalwood and Cedar that help to calm skin, while Jasmine blossoms serve to fade scars. The Green Rooibos Tea, which is a potent antioxidant, also serves to reduce redness and irritation and is known to help heal skin inflammation, and to help treat skin conditions such as eczema.

Skin is left visibly toned, even in texture, balanced and lifted, but it is neither left dry nor in the least bit taut. In fact, the antioxidant-rich formula leaves skin plumped and protected, while the rich African Botanicals, Marula Oil and vitamins hydrate and nourish the skin.  Furthermore, skin is rendered remarkably smooth, soft as silk, and with a pronounced clarity and luminosity. It is also a fantastic treat to mix it with African Botanics Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish for a light exfoliation. This cleanser has a wonderful earthy fragrance that greatly enhances the sensory experience of using this beautiful cleanser that is formulated for all skin types. Purchase Again? YES!

2) African Botanics Pure Marula Cleansing Oil ($60.00 for 3.4 oz. from African Botanics, Net-A-Porter, Revolve and Credo Beauty): This lightweight oil is an antioxidant and omega-rich oil that was formulated to gently cleanse and purify even the most sensitive skin types while removing makeup, dead skin cells as well as pollution and other impurities. It is so gentle and effective that it neither dehydrates the skin, nor causes irritation. It is suitable for combination, sensitive and dry skin types. Repurchase? I already opened a deluxe travel size!
3) Rodial Super Acids X-Treme Pore Shrink Cleansing Pads (These appear to have been discontinued): The pads themselves are very generously soaked with Rodial's magical serum, and will unquestionably give you more than enough product to use on your face. After a single use I could see that these were no ordinary exfoliating pad because rather than simply lifting and removing dead skin and dirt it, and leaving skin somewhat stripped as some exfoliating pads do, SUPER ACIDS X-treme Pore Shrink Cleansing Pads leave skin hydrated thanks to the Beneficial biotilys probiotic technology. After use my skin reveals a pronounced clarity and radiance, but it also appears lifted and more refined. While I wouldn't say that my skin appears poreless, I would say that my skin appears more toned and taut-- and my pores are less noticeable (though I wouldn't say that enlarged pores is an issue for me). Repurchase? I would, if Rodial made them again.

4) Colbert MD Tone Control Facial Disks ($80.00 for 20 disks from Colbert MD, Amazon, Dermstore and Olivela): Most of the solution soaked exfoliating pads that I have used are thin and double sided, Colbert MD has broken this mold by opting for a very plush and thick single-sided pad. The generously saturated pre-moistened disks include a small tab on the back that makes holding them very easy, and it allows one to maintain effortless control. While I thought that I had achieved exfoliating pad nirvana with the Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks, I discovered that Colbert MD Tone Control Facial Disks are a whole different level of paradigm shifting exfoliating pads. Not only do these pre-moistened disks provide effective, and gentle, microdermabrasion from the surface texture of the pad, but they also encourage cell turnover that aids in the promotion of collagen production. Skin, unobstructed by a proliferation of dead skin cells, is then able to effortlessly and effectively absorb skincare products. The end result is unbelievably silky soft, smooth, supple and luminous skin. Additionally, Colbert MD Tone Control Facial Disks are saturated with ingredients that even out skin tone, lighten dark spots (hyperpigmentation), soothe redness and brighten the complexion. Repurchase? I have a full box open!

5) Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks ($70.00 for 20 discs from Colbert MDDermstore, Olivela and Amazon): I have regularly used various types of facial exfoliating pads for many years, and have to confess that my experience with Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks was a real game changer for me all of those years ago. While most of the solution soaked exfoliating pads that I have used are thin and double sided, Colbert MD has reimagined its form and instead has opted for a very plush and thick single sided pad. The generously saturated pre-moistened disks include a small tab on the back that makes holding the disk easy, and allows one to maintain effortless control.

The combination of the mild microdermabrasion action from the surface of the pad coupled with the enzyme action of the solution immediately and effectively encourages cell turnover that aids in the promotion of collagen production. Skin, unobstructed by a proliferation of dead skin cells, is then able to effortlessly and effectively absorb skincare products. The end result is unbelievably soft, smooth, supple and luminous skin. Purchase Again? I have a full box open!

6) Arbonne RE9 Advanced Prepwork Gel Eye Masks ($50.00 for 60 gel masks from Arbonne): These soothing and cooling gel eye masks, which boast an antioxidant-rich formula, de-puff the delicate skin below the eye while softening the appearance of fine lines and they offer serious hydration. If you are a fan of eye masks, these are a must-try! These gel eye masks have no detectable aroma. Repurchase? I have more gel eye masks to finish up before I contemplate purchasing more, but I really like these, and would definitely use them again.

7) Patchology Flashpatch Rejuvenating Eye Gels ($15.00 for 5 pack from PatchologyNordstromSpace NKBloomingdale'sUltaDermstoreRevolveSkinstore and Bluemercury): Patchology Flashpatch Rejuvenating Eye Gels, which are are biodegradable, cruelty-free and vegan, effectively cool and de-puff the delicate area below the eyes, and they moisturize, soothe and refresh. Furthermore, each time I use them I notice that my dark circles are diminished, my fine lines are softened, and that my skin boasts a dewy luminosity. Repurchase? I will definitely consider it once I use up this box and the other eye gel masks in my drawer!

8) Hero Cosmetics Mighty Patch The Original Acne Stickers ($12.99 for 36 and $21.99 for 72 from Hero CosmeticsSkinstoreiHerbAmazonMadewellTargetWalmartBloomingdale's and Thrive Market): These are phenomenally effective, and in fact they work so fast that I was actually astounded by the results. It has been very hot here in LA, and after sweating profusely while cleaning out the garage I ended up with a sizable pimple on my chin. I had a long Zoom work meeting the following day and I knew that I needed to do something to try treat this large blemish– so I took a look at the spot treatment products that I had and found these. I washed my face before going to sleep and placed one of these little hydrocolloid disks on my pimple and then went to bed. When I woke up in the morning I was shocked to see that pimple was nearly flat and had almost completely gone away. I simply couldn't be happier with the results. Purchase Again? I have another pack to use up first, but I would definitely consider repurchasing this in the future.
9) Lancôme Rénergie Lift Multi-Action Light Day Cream ($99.00 for 1.7 oz. from Lancôme): This thick day cream is surprisingly lightweight and fast-absorbing. It has a luscious silky-smooth texture that melts into the skin effortlessly, and leaves it immediately looking and feeling soft, smooth supple, hydrated and moisturized, and those benefits last all day. It includes an SPF 15 for added protection, but since I live in Southern California, I never leave the house wearing anything less than an SPF 30. I should not that it does have a light semi-floral fragrance, but it isn't in the least bit cloying or long-lasting. Repurchase? While I liked it a lot, I would opt for a higher SPF day cream instead.

10) Tata Harper Retinoic Nutrient Face Oil ($132.00 for 1 oz. from Space NKSephoraThe Detox MarketCredo Beauty and goop): This antioxidant-rich face oil was conceived to hydrate dull, lackluster skin that is in need of brightening and hydrating. The nutrient-rich formula restores moisture to irritated, dry and chapped skin, and is the perfect choice for all skin types– especially during the colder months of the year when dehydration is more prevalent. The oil is lightweight, fast absorbing and it leaves behind no oily residue whatsoever. Skin is left plumped, hydrated, unbelievably soft, smooth and supple. Repurchase? OMG, YES!

11) Kneipp Lavender Bath Bar (Was $5.00 for 4.76 oz. from Kneipp): This gentle bar boasts a lovely lather without stripping the skin in the least. Great in the shower or taking up pride of place at your bathroom sink, this luxurious aromatic bar is a delight to the senses. Repurchase? I would in a second, but it doesn't appear that they are still making this wonderful bar!

12) Farmhouse Fresh Soaps:

Farmhouse Fresh Blueberry Chia Seed Whole Milk Soap ($12.50 for 4.5 oz. from Farmhouse Fresh): Farmhouse Fresh Blueberry Chia Seed Whole Milk Soap features blueberries from Oregon, whole milk from the Midwest and chia seeds. This is a rich and emollient whole milk bar that also contains Vitamins A and B12, rice bran, olive oil, coconut and buttery fats that nourish and hydrate the skin without ever stripping it. The rich lather makes this great for shaving legs and underarms as well. The delectable blueberry aroma seriously smells good enough to eat! Repurchase? I definitely will!

Farmhouse Fresh Pistachio Cream Goats Milk Soap ($12.50 for 4.5 oz. from Farmhouse Fresh): Farmhouse Fresh Pistachio Cream Goats Milk Soap features California Pistachios and goats milk.
This is a rich and emollient whole milk bar that also contains Vitamins A and B12, rice bran, olive oil, coconut and buttery fats that nourish and hydrate the skin without ever stripping it. The rich lather makes this great for shaving legs and underarms, while the creamy pistachio aroma fills the shower with its delicious sweet scent. Repurchase? Definitely!

13) Nubian Heritage Raw Shea Butter Body Wash ($12.99 for 13 oz. from Nubian Heritage): Between the creamy texture and the warm milky aroma, this nourishing and hydrating body wash is a delight to use. It thoroughly cleans the skin, and it neither strips, nor does it leave behind an oily residue. Instead, it leaves skin soft, silky smooth and hydrated. Repurchase? I have a brand new bottle waiting to be opened!

14) African Muti Mud Mineral Body Scrub (On Sale for $20.00 from goop): Marula African Muti Mud Mineral Body Scrub is an ultra-luxe mineral and phytonutrient-rich Muti Mud-based scrub, which is inspired by an ancient spa ritual. It has a delectable light cocoa scent that ignites the senses while it detoxifies and purifies the skin. Its exfoliating particles are at once ultra-efficient and gentle, making the perfect choice for all skin types– including the most sensitive. While African Botanics Marula African Muti Mud Mineral Body Scrub gently removes dead skin cells, it not only leaves skin soft, supple and moisturized, but it also leaves it noticeably luminous with improved texture. Unlike many oil-based body scrubs, this one neither leaves an oil-slick on the skin, nor on the shower floor– therefore there is no added clean-up after use. If ever there was a perfect body scrub, it is this one.

There are two wonderful ways that one can use this scrub: First, in the traditional way one can apply to dry or damp skin and gently massage it in a circular motion. The second method, which is how I am using it here, involves applying it to dry skin and leaving it on for 10-15 minutes. This method allows the Muti Mud to detox the skin before the scrub is massaged into the skin in a circular motion. The results are astounding when used alone, but when used in conjunction with the rest of this spa treatment, the results are even more pronounced. Skin is left unbelievably silky smooth and soft. Repurchase? Most definitely! Especially on sale!

15) Dr. Canuso Daily Exfoliating Cleanser ($22.95 from Dr. Canuso): This is an amazing daily exfoliator that is specifically formulated for daily use on feet. Dr. Canuso makes the very important point that one should clean the shower floor with bleach in order to kill fungus that gets transferred to our feet, and this often neglected step with go a long way to eradicating foot fungus that one often associates with the gym, and not the home. With daily use, I quickly noted that my winter-worn calloused feet became soft and callous-free. While I do not have signs of foot fungus, I definitely noted a vast improvement in the condition of my feet. Repurchase? Perhaps at some point. I have used two tubes already, and really like this!

16) South of France Violet Bouquet Hand Wash (Available from South of France Natural Body Care and Amazon): This hand soap boasts a rich lather that is enriched with a proprietary blend of Coconut and Olive Oils and Mediterranean Sea Algae that moisturize and clean the skin without ever stripping or drying. It smells like violet candies, and is such a pleasure to use! Repurchase? Absolutely!

17) Dove Pink Beauty Bar ($2.99-$12.99 for 2-14 bar packs from Target and Walgreens): This creamy cleanser contains ¼ moisturizing cream to help make skin soft, smooth and hydrated. It doesn't strip skin in the least, nor does it leave it taut. Repurchase? No question! Their bars are a staple in my house!

18) L'Occitane Iris Bleu & Iris Blanc Hand Cream (Was $12.00 for 1 oz. Travel Size): This delectable and silky smooth hand cream, which is enriched with shea butter, nourishes and protects hands while leaving them beautifully fragranced. Repurchase? I don't think this is still available in th US, but I would definitely buy it again if I could find it!

19) Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream ($16.00 for 1 oz. from Amazon):Yu-Be products have a cult-following for good reason, and most who have entered the fold began with their famous Moisturizing Skin Cream. This is a thick, rich and concentrated cream that sinks into the skin quickly, and it makes short work of restoring dry skin to happy moisturized skin. A little goes a very long way, so even with regular use a tube or jar should last a while (unless of course you succumb to the temptation and slather it everywhere because it feel so good). Not only is Yu-Be a versatile cream that can be used on the body, face, and lips-- but it is also one of the 7 wonders of the world that can make the driest of hands and cuticles look and feel soft, supple, hydrated and restored. Like the divine Yu-Be Lip Balm, their Moisturizing Skin Cream also contains Camphor. The scent dissipates nearly immediately after it is applied to the skin, but if you are sensitive, allergic, or intolerant to this ingredient you should be aware that it is among the listed ingredients. I find the scent, albeit short lived, very pleasant and comforting. Repurchase? Eventually, yes!

20) May Lindstrom The Good Stuff Body Oil ($110.00 for 3.38 oz. from May Lindstrom): May's The Good Stuff Radiance Oil– it is unmistakably one of the most extraordinary body oils that I have ever tried, and to say that savor and covet it barely expresses the extent to which I am enamored of this gem.  Described as, "a rich and decadent marriage of cocoa, rose, lavender and ylang-ylang," this delicious blend of tantalizing and intoxicating aromas delight the senses while bathing the skin in luscious, rich moisture. This stunningly enigmatic oil delivers intense hydration to the body and hair, while calming and delighting the senses and calming the mind.

The delicious blend of antioxidant-rich plant, nut and essential oils deliver profound nourishment and hydration to the skin and hair immediately and effectively. The lightweight formula sinks into the skin effortlessly, without an oily residue, and it reveals an enviable lit-from-within ethereal glow. Skin is left velvety soft to the touch, sinfully supple, and dry skin gives way to utterly balanced and hydrated skin. The intoxicatingly beautiful aroma sits close to the skin and invites repeated and prolonged deep breaths. Repurchase? I can't currently find it on her website, and I am not sure if it is out of stock, or if it has been discontinued, but I would DEFINITELY buy this again!

21) Susanne Kaufmann Body Oil ($72.00 for 8.4 oz. from Space NK): I really liked the way that this oil made my skin feel, but I didn't have enough time with this oil to formulate a meaningful opinion. That said, I am very curious about this brand and want to try their products. Repurchase? Not based upon this sample, but I could definitely see trying it again.

22) Clarins Tonic Body Treatment Oil ($66.00 for 3.4 oz. from  Sephora): Again, this deluxe sample didn't provide me with enough time to formulate a meaningful opinion, but I did like using it. Repurchase? Not based upon my short testing period, but I would definitely be open to trying it again.

Overall Assessment: That is what I managed to finish in September, and I will be so busy with work in October that I don't know if I will be able to take as much time to pamper myself. What did you use up, toss out, give away or return in September. Any real winners or duds to report? Do tell!

BEST SKINCARE REPURCHASES OF 2019

Repurchased (Affiliate Links)

Given that I have a huge collection of skincare products, it is far that I need to replace products since there s always something to replace my empties. However, there are a few products that I love so much that I feel compelled to replace them rather than going without. In 2019, there were only a few products that I loved so much that I replaced them before I even finished them up.

As a huge fan of RODIN Olio Lusso, I was very excited by the prospects of trying the RODIN Olio Lusso Geranium & Orange Blossom Face Oil, and given my penchant for luxury beauty oils, and my unmitigated devotion to RODIN Olio Lusso Jasmine/Neroli Luxury Face Oil (Reviewed HERE) this fetching oil was at the top of my list of must-haves. Interestingly, I love the Geranium and Orange Blossom Face Oil far more than the Jasmine/Neroli Face Oil that I have used for many years! Its aroma is utterly enchanting. It is the perfect balance between the Geranium and the Orange Blossom, and it is neither too sweet, nor too citrusy. Instead, it is deep, rich and warm it reveals a touch of spice. It is hypnotic, delectable and truly divine.

RODIN Olio Lusso Geranium & Orange Blossom Face Oil ($170.00 for 1 oz. and $89.00 for .50 oz. from NordstromSephoraNeiman MarcusBergdorf GoodmanCredo BeautyRevolve and Saks Fifth Avenue): is a lightweight antioxidant-rich, remarkably fast absorbing and ultra nourishing oil. It immediately hydrates even the most parched and dehydrated skin– leaving it baby soft, smooth, supple and seriously luminous. I have noted that it banished a couple of dry patches that I had on my chin, and it has softened the appearance of my light expression lines. It is effective for all types of skin, and has been an extraordinary treat for my normal/combination skin.
According to Rodin Olio Lusso,

When skin’s lost its zest, massage in the energizing powers of this exotic blend to encourage microcirculation and rev up radiance. Not a morning person? You can still look like one. Traveling? Look fresh even when you’ve lost track of the time zone.

Microcirculation is key. That’s why this blend focuses on fatigue-fighters and radiance-makers. Massage in, and see the difference. Credit goes to South African Geranium & Moroccan Orange Blossom and Moroccan Jojoba Oil.

Every RODIN formula has a power base of 9 powerhouse oils. All are pure and natural, not synthetic. This core works to keep skin smooth, supple, glowing. Omegas build a skin-strengthening moisture barrier. Vitamins A,E and C to help skin shrug off the effects of modern life.

Southwest Asia Sweet Almond Oil, Moroccan Argon Oil and Himalayan Apricot Seed Oil are the big three in this RODIN quality core. A shared wealth of antioxidants and fatty acids to improve skin’s appearance, pronto.

If skin is looking a bit oily or feeling congested, Geranium’s natural properties might just clear things up.

Ingredients: Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Rosa Canina Seed Extract, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Flower Extract, Pelargonium Graveolens (Geranium) Flower Oil, Calendula Officinalis Flower Oil, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Linalool, Citronellol, Geraniol, Farnesol, Limonene, Citral, Tocopherol, Tocopheryl Acetate.

May Lindstrom, the eponymously named line of its creator, is a healthy skincare collection that uses sustainably sourced certified organic, wild harvested, biodynamic and vegan ingredients of the highest quality. May, a former model known as the "skin chef," lovingly makes each batch by hand, and is among the short list visionaries to create ultra luxurious natural skincare products. More of a magician, or alchemist, May has an innate understanding of the raw materials and is able to commingle disparate elements to create harmonious blends that ignite the senses and nourish the skin.

May Lindstrom is a line that inspires a profound engagement with the ritual associated with the finest quality skincare products that boast otherworldly textures, heavenly aromas, and astonishing results. Stress melts away as one yields oneself to the undeniable experiential aspect of this magical line, and one cannot help but savor every moment of this glorious process.
If you have long sought a magical unicorn of a beauty product, and one that could end the hunt for a holy grail beauty balm, then say hello to May Lindstrom The Blue Cocoon Beauty Balm Concentrate ($180.00 for 1.69 oz. from Net-A-PorterSpace NKgoopFollainNeiman MarcusBeautylishThe Detox MarketCitrine Natural Beauty Bar and Shen Beauty): Aptly named, one immediately wants to be completely enveloped by this wondrous melting balm. This delectable anti-inflammatory multipurpose balm deeply nourished and hydrates the skin, eradicates redness and skin irritations and makes skin soft, supple, balanced, healed and luminous.

I cannot sufficiently underscore the extent to which this is a truly special skincare treat.

According to May Lindstrom,

Our balmy blue enchantress greets your skin with cool serenity, melting on touch to a fluid potion that tenderly envelopes you in the most decadent azule calm.

Mystical blue tansy eases feelings of emotional anxiety while releasing heat and providing nourishment and relief to delicate, inflamed and irritable skin conditions.

Massage a pea sized amount into wet immediately following cleansing. Boss: Work beautifully as an eye and lip treatment.

The Blue Cocoon Beauty Balm Concentrate activates the senses, elevates the mood and transforms the skin. It is, indeed, a magical unicorn that is filled with healthy, potent actives that together perform miracles for the skin and the spirit.

Among my favorite TATCHA gems is the entire Indigo Collection. TATCHA Soothing Silk Body Butter is ($48.00 for 6.8 oz. Available from TATCHA and Violet Grey): is a tremendously moisturizing treatment cream that offers even the driest skins great relief.
TATCHA'S Indigo Soothing Silk Body Butter is a rich, fast absorbing and non-greasy body cream that leaves behind the most lusciously supple, soft and deeply moisturized skin imaginable. The anti-inflammatory-rich formula soothes redness and skin irritation swiftly, effortlessly and with great efficacy. The subtle warm clean scent is utterly intoxicating, but it fades quickly and will not to interfere with any fragrances that one might wear.
According to TATCHA,

Rich in anti-inflammatory Indigo, liquid Silk and Squalane, TATCHA's INDIGO Soothing Silk Body Butter softens and soothes irritated skin.

The stems, leaves and petals of the Indigo plant are steeped in water and fermented to make a concentrated botanical extract. Tryptanthrin and indirubin actives help reduce irritation and promote skin's natural healing abilities. The natural blue hue disappears upon application. Due to the natural botanical extract, the shade of Indigo may vary; the efficacy of the formulation remains the same.

Makeup Wars! Best Scrubs and Exfoliators | The Luxury Edition

Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

The Makeup Wars! Team decided that we would feature our favorite scrubs and exfoliators, and I couldn't be happier since I am thoroughly obsessed with proper exfoliation. I went through my collection, and decided to feature my favorites from a few of my most coveted luxury brands.
African Botanics Infinité Resurfacing Mask ($200.00 for 50 ml. 1.7 oz. from African Botanics and Cult Beauty): is a multi-functional resurfacing mask that acts as a physical exfoliant, sans gritty particles, when you gently rub it into the skin (for about 2-3 minutes), but then once you allow it to dry the proprietary blend of ultra-potent Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Phytic Acid and White Willow Bark effectively and efficiently exfoliate dead skin cells, refine and clear congested pores, and plump and smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This ingenious blend of ingredients serves to improve elasticity, calms irritated skin with its anti-inflammatory ingredients, and it leaves skin soft, smooth, supple and luminous. It should also be noted that this potent formula effectively helps to fade hyperpigmentation, while the antioxidant-rich ingredients such as Resveratrol, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Niacinamide, Copper, Magnesium, Superoxide Dismutase protect, repair, heal and nourish the skin.

African Botanics sourced the leaf sap from the indigenous South African Bulbine Frutescens because of its unique ability to boost collagen production and therefore enhance elasticity, tone and firmness. The effects are pronounced and noticeable, and for this reason alone African Botanics Infinité Resurfacing Mask ranks among the greatest masks that I have ever tried, but that is but one of its many, many virtues.

If you have very delicate or sensitive skin, then I would initially leave it on for no more than 4-5 minutes, and rinse it off thoroughly. I was able to leave it on for a full 15 minutes the first time that I used it. While I did feel a warming effect, and a slight tingle, I neither found it uncomfortable, nor unpleasant. I use it twice a week, and have done so for about a month, and my skin looks and feels as though I received an in-office peel. With African Botanics Infinité Resurfacing Mask, however there is no necessary down-time, and there is not peeling whatsoever.

African Botanics Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish ($75.00 for 3.38 oz./100 ml. from African BotanicsNet-A-PorterCredo BeautyNeed Supply Company and Cult Beauty £66.00): Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish is a very deep-cleansing facial exfoliator that effectively and efficiently sweeps away impurities and cleans out clogged pores. It is formulated with a combination of Marula Oil, Baobab Oils and Buchu Plant extracts that are punctuated by Micro-Algae and ultra-fine granules of ancient volcanic minerals. The fine granules, which densely populate this exfoliator, efficiently and effectively unclog pores, and remove dead skin cells, excess oils and impurities. Papaya and Pineapple enzymes help to dissolve dead skin cells, aid in cleaning out the pores, and make them appear reduced in size. Skin is left brightened, deeply cleansed and utterly glowing. In fact, the first time that I used it I noticed that it left my skin feeling as soft and silky smooth as ultra-fine velvet. Only the smallest amount is needed to achieve the desired results for the face, neck and décolleté, and the exfoliating particles are so efficient that you do not need to apply any pressure as you massage it into the skin. Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish Skin neither strips the skin, nor does it deplete vital moisture or hydration. Dull, congested skin gives way to youthful, radiant skin that feels amazing to the touch.

Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish has a wonderful earthy aroma that greatly enhances the sensory experience of using this exfoliator. While it is formulated for most skin types, people with sensitive skin should mix a very small amount with their favorite cleanser. I routinely mix it with Baobab Clay Oxygenating Cleanser when I only want light exfoliation, but I use it alone at least once or twice a week.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Carica Papaya (Papaya) Extract, Ananas Sativus (Pineapple) Fruit Extract, Pumice (Volcanic Minerals), Glycerin, Agathosma Betulina (Buchu) Leaf Powder*, Corn Starch, Acrylates, Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Seed Oil*, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab) Fruit Powder*, Aloe Ferox (Bitter Aloe) Leaf Extract, Lactobionic Acid, Citrus Bergamia (Bergamot) Essential Oil, Athrospira Platensis (Spirulina) Micro-Algae Extract, Pelargonium Graveolens (Cape Rose Geranium) Essential Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Kigelia Africana Fruit Extract*, Aspalathus Linearis (Green Rooibos Tea) Extract, Cyclopia Genistoides (Honeybush) Extract. *Organic & Wild-Harvested Ingredients. 100% Vegan. Never tested on animals.
Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks ($70.00 for 20 Discs from Colbert MDBarneys New YorkSpace NK and Amazon): I have regularly used various types of facial exfoliating pads for quite some time, and have to confess that my experience with Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks was a real game changer for me. While most of the solution soaked exfoliating pads that I have used are thin and double sided, Colbert MD has broken this mold and instead opted for a very plush and thick single sided pad.

Ingredients: Aqua, Glycerin, Decyl Glucoside, Bromelain, Allantoin, Acetyl Glucosamine, Gluconolactone, Chlorhexidine Digluconate, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Parfum.

Colbert MD Tone Control Facial Disks ($80.00 for 20 disks from Colbert MDBloomingdale'sSpace NKBarneys New York and Net-A-Porter): While I thought that I had achieved exfoliating pad nirvana with the Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks, I discovered that Colbert MD Tone Control Facial Disks are a whole different level of paradigm shifting exfoliating pads.

Ingredients: Water (Aqua), PEG-12 Glyceryl Dimyristate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Butylene Glycol, Glucosamine, PEG-23 Glyceryl Distearate, Phenylethyl Resorcinol, Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Glycereth-12, Glyceryl Cocoate, Fragrance, Sodium Benzoate, Betaine, D-Limone, Lipoic Acid, Linalool, Ubiquinone, Glycyrrhetinic Acid, Genistein, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopherol, Potassium Sorbate, Tremella Fuciformis Sporocarp Extract.
TATCHA Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder ($65.00 for 2.1 oz. from TATCHA, Barneys New York, Sephora and QVC): I chose the Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder because I have combination skin, and it definitely is a very good fit for my skin type. Despite the fact that this cleanser exfoliates the skin from the fine gritty bits, it also depends on the enzymes to dissolve dead skin cells as well. It is a very effective exfoliant, but truly is gentle enough to be used on a daily basis. I have never used it more than once a day because I tend to prefer to use the Tatcha One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil at night to remove all of my makeup. That said, I have numerous cleansers in rotation, and I choose which one to use based on the needs of my skin and my mood.

I cannot believe just how soft and smooth that this leaves my skin- and when I say soft I mean baby-bottom soft. I also found that leaving the paste on your face for a few minutes, as you would with a mask, renders even better results. I have found that doing so results in clean fresh skin that one experiences after getting a facial. This is such a magical powder!

Ingredients: Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran, Papain (Papaya Extract), Algae Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Hydrolyzed Conchiolin Protein (Pearl).

TATCHA INDIGO Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder for Sensitive Skin ($65.00 for 2.1 oz. from TATCHABarneys New YorkSephora and QVC): is a water-activated exfoliating and toning powder cleanser that is formulated for sensitive skin, but it can be used by a wider variety of skin types. The Colloidal Oatmeal-laden formula is remarkably soothing and calming on irritated, inflamed skin, and yet it boasts extraordinary efficacy in its ability to exfoliate dead skin cells. What is remarkable is the precision with which it is able to exfoliate without irritating sensitive skin.

Simply add a small amount of water to the powder to achieve your desired consistency and then rub your hands together until you have created a creamy foam, and then gently massage it, in a circular motion, on your face, neck and décolleté for about 10-20 seconds. Skin is left unbelievably velvety soft, silky smooth, supple and luminous. This is the perfect way for people with sensitive skin to enjoy the benefits of exfoliation and deep cleansing– without stripping or irritating the skin.

Ingredients: Oryza Sativa (Rice) Powder, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Potassium Myristate, Polygonum Tinctorium (Japanese Indigo) Leaf/Stem Extract, Indigofera Tinctoria Leaf Extract, Colloidal Oatmeal, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Hydrolyzed Conchiolin (Pearl) Protein, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran, Algae Extract, Glycerin, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Calcium Carbonate, Titanium Dioxide, Tin Oxide, Mica, Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol.

N.B.: TATCHA recommends adding enough water to turn the powder into a creamy foam rather than a paste, which allows for the gentle, non-abrasive exfoliation. I am able to use it as a paste– which offers more intensive exfoliation– but I would definitely recommend trying it as a liquid first, and then gradually add less water, if seek extra exfoliation. Using it as a paste will be too harsh for people with delicate/sensitive skin.
May Lindstrom The Clean Dirt Cleansing Clay ($70.00 for 6.76 oz. from May LindstromBarneys New YorkCult BeautyShen BeautyNet-A-Porter and Follain): which is described as an "energizing blend of cleansing clays, waring spices, and restorative salts," is wondrous purifying and exfoliating treatment that cleans clogged pores, eliminates dead skin cells while the water-activated Vitamin C brightens skin, encourages cell rejuvenation. It feels a bit like a very gentle microdermabrasion, but it neither irritates the skin, nor does it strip it in any way. Instead, skin is left silky smooth, velvety soft, supple and radiant. The exquisite natural aroma evokes the scent of the finest chai imaginable!

According to May Lindstrom Skin,

An energizing blend of cleansing clays, warming spices, and restorative salts lift impurities while a surge of H20-activated Vitamin C encourages cellular rejuvenation and undeniable luminosity. This stimulating treatment transforms and refines skin’s appearance with a potent cocktail of exfoliants, leaving you velvety smooth and gorgeously radiant.

Ingredients: White Halloysite Clay, Red Moroccan Rhassoul Clay, Red Alaea Sea Salt, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Sodium Bicarbonate, *Althaea Officinalis (Marshmallow) Root, *Rosa Centifolia (Pink Rose), *Calendula Officinalis (Calendula) Flower, *Cinnamomum Zeylanicum (Cinnamon), * Myristica Fragans (Nutmeg), *Syzygium Aromaticum (Clove), *Curcuma Longa (Turmeric), *Zingiber Officinale (Ginger), *Vanilla Planifolia Bean, **Theobroma Cacao (Raw Cacao). *Certified Organic **Fair Trade Certified.
Overall Assessment: These are my absolute favorite ultra-luxe scrubs and exfoliators, and I simply cannot sufficiently underscore the extent to which I recommend them! These each earn an unmitigated A+! What are your favorite scrubs and exfoliators?
