Energy Saving & Eco-Friendly Steps for Your Bathroom in 2026

Press Sample & Purchased (Affiliate Links)

If you are trying to make your bathroom more energy efficient and enhance your sustainability practices, here are some changes that can be made over time that will save resources, produce less waste and make your bathroom a more eco-friendly. Over the years, I given a lot of thought to the the ways in which I am unnecessarily wasteful. Here are a few things that I have implemented, or plan to try, to reduce, reuse, recycle and use fewer chemicals and chemical-laden products.

Install a Low-Flow Shower Head: Even after installing a low-flow shower head, I take shorter showers and turn off the water whenever possible (Home Depot and Amazon have a wide variety). This also significantly lowered my water usage, and therefore my water bill.

Use Eco-Friendly Bathroom Cleaners: Long ago I began using household cleaning products that contained fewer chemicals. Brands such as Ecover (Available from Amazon), Seventh Generation (Available from Target and Amazon), Dr. Bronner's (Available from Target and Amazon), Method (Available from Target, Amazon and Walmart), Mrs. Meyer's (Available from Amazon) and JR Watkins (Available from Target, Amazon and Walmart) are among my favorites. I find that it really makes a huge difference knowing that my bathroom is not necessarily filled with lots and lots of chemicals, and these brands make products that are effective. Therefore, I never feel as though I am sacrificing efficacy, and I don't have to worry that I am sending more chemicals into the ocean.

Switch your Towels, Rugs and Shower Curtains to Organic Cotton: 100% Organic Cotton is not filled with chemicals and it is easier on the environment and your skin. These items are widely available, and many are quite affordable. You can find them at Crate & Barrel, AmazonTarget and West Elm.

Eco-Friendly Skin, Hair and Body Refillable Sizes: Whenever possible purchase larger sizes or refillable bottles. Brands such as L'Occitane have refillable bags for some of their products, and it is much easier on the environment.

Recycle Every Bottle, Jar and Tube That You Can: The catch is that you have to clean them out well enough to ensure that they will actually get recycled. I use a dish pan filled with warm soapy water to clean out those containers– that way I am not wasting water in the process.

Washable Facial Pads Instead of Cotton Balls: I have used quite a few washable cotton pads, and here are a few worth considering: Reusable Cotton Rounds (from Amazon) and Paula's Choice Reusable Cotton Rounds (from Paula's Choice). I really don't like the idea of so many cotton balls and pads making it into the landfill because of me, therefore this is a transition was a fairly easy one to make.

Eco-Friendly Cotton Swabs: I have yet to try these, but here is the one that I have been thinking about trying: LastSwab Basic is a reusable cotton swab that I have seen advertised online, and I am very curious to try one.

Switch to Metal Razors Rather Than Disposable Plastic Ones: Eco-friendly reliable razors are far more environmentally friendly than plastic disposables– even for travel. I made that switch a while ago, but found a lot of cool eco-friendly razors on Amazon.

Waterpik instead of Floss, or Eco-Friendly Dental FlossWaterpik Sidekick offers a teeth whitening component by simply placing the whitening tablets in the device one– enabling one to whitening their teeth while flossing. It is easy to use and it effectively flosses while whitening the teeth. It is the perfect device to consider if you are seeking healthier gums, whitened teeth and fresher breath, and you don't dump miles of used floss into the landfillWaterpik Sidekick ($139.99 from Amazon): The Waterpik Sidekick is wonderful for traveling, and comes with its own travel case, but it is also wonderful for daily use, and its compact size makes it perfect for people with limited counter space.

Toothbrushes made From Recyclable Materials: Preserve makes affordable toothbrushes from recycled materials ($3.98 each from Amazon and Preserve), and they have a recycling program when you finish using your toothbrush. I have used many of their toothbrushes, and I like them a lot.

Switch to Organic Toilet Tissue: Pure Planet makes my favorite eco-friendly toilet paper (Available from Pure Planet Club). This is double-length 3-ply Tree-Free rolls feature 300 sheets per roll with 36 rolls per box. Their toilet tissue is 100% natural, plastic-free, plant-based, septic-safe, vegan-friendly, cruelty-free and BPA-free, making it the most guilt-free toilet tissue available. Made from renewable bamboo, so it’s recyclable, biodegradable and sustainable.

Consider Replacing Your Toilet with a Low-Flow Energy: We replaced our water wasting toilet with a TOTO Low Flow Toilet years ago, and I highly recommend them! (Available from Home Depot and Lowe's).

Replace Your Lightbulbs with LED Bulbs: LED bulbs are more energy efficient and they are quite easy to find. Amazon has a large selection of them, and I have had really good luck ordering from them.

Replace Plastic Shower Liners with PVC-Free Versions: There are quite a few of them that you can find online and in-stores. One of our bathrooms has a glass shower enclosure, which is preferable to replaceable liners, but our other bathroom requires a shower curtain instead. So unless we end up adding a glass enclosure in that bathroom, I will continue to order PVC-Free liners when I need to replace them.

Call the Plumber if You Have Leaky Fixtures: We had a leaky faucet and a running toilet, and it is shocking how much water it wastes. Those are simple fixes for a plumber and it will not only be a more sustainable choice, but you will also save a lot on your water bill.

Overall Assessment: Small changes make a big difference over time, and I am really happy that I have made these changes. Have you begun to make eco-friendly changes in your household? If so, how?

Labor Day Weekend Tips for Fun in the Sun

Picture above taken in the garden at The Getty Center

If you are anything like me, and you plan to spend your last weekend of summer enjoying the outdoors– then here are a few things to remember:

1) Make sure to have plenty of high SPF sunscreen on hand, and be sure to reapply it frequently. It might be worth using an SPF that is water-resistant or waterproof if you will be swimming, or sweating a lot in the hot sun.

2) Remember a wide-brim hat and sunglasses to give yourself more protection from the sun.

3) Consider UV protected clothing. SPF/UPF garments will bolster your SPF protection– and they are particularly useful if you will be outdoors for long periods of time.

4) If you are going to be celebrating Labor Day in an area with mosquitoes, then you might consider a good bug spray. I reach for DEET-free, water-resistant and non-flammable varieties.

5) Pack plenty of water to stay hydrated!

6) Consider using a hyaluronic serum before you leave the house to add, and retain, hydration to your skin.

7) If you are going somewhere like the beach or a park, and you will be in an area without shade, then it is worth investing in a portable beach umbrella– you will be glad that you did!

8) Have a wonderful time!

If you are staying home, and taking advantage of the many Labor Day Sales, then HERE are some amazing sales that I found!

Winter Dry Hair & Scalp? Try These Easy Tips

My hair and scalp have been unusually dry this winter, and If you are experiencing the same issues, then here are a few tips to help:

1) Switch to a moisturizing shampoo that works for your hair type.

2) Do not shampoo your hair every single day. Go as long as you can comfortably go between shampoos. If that means using a dry shampoo, make sure that it is one that doesn't dry out your hair or scalp.

3) Wash and condition your hair using warm, rather than hot, water. This makes a huge difference for me.

4) Instead of using a conditioner when you wash your hair, switch to a hair mask. This offers far more moisture and will help with your dry hair and scalp.

5) If your hair still feels as though it needs a bit more moisture, use a leave-in conditioner. I like to use leave-in conditioning sprays, and they also really help to detangle as well as nourish and hydrate my hair.

6) If you heat style your hair, then cut back on the number of days that you do it each week.

All of these tips are really working for me, and they are making all of the difference in the way my hair looks and feels this winter. What are your winter haircare tips?

Easy Tips to Pamper your Dry Hands this Winter

If your hands are dry and chapped this winter, then they are likely in need some extra TLC. Here are my super-easy, and ultra-relaxing at-home tips to restore their moisture. You really don't have to go out and buy any fancy and expensive products, instead use what you love and already have on hand.

Six Easy Steps:

Step 1: Wash your hands with warm soapy water.

Step 2: Fill your clean sink with warm water and soak your hands in the basin. After a few minutes, gently exfoliate dead skin cells with your favorite gentle body or face scrub. Tip: Exfoliate gently because the water softens up your skin, and therefore you don't need to use any force. Note: I always deep clean my sink before I do this since I don't want to soak my hands in a dirty sink.

Step 3: Thoroughly rinse hands and empty the basin. Pat your hands dry leaving them slightly moist.

Step 4: Massage a light body or face oil into your warm and slightly damp hands.

Step 5: Massage a rich cream, body butter or balm into your hands.

Step 6: Put on cotton gloves (if you want to further pamper your hands). This step can be skipped, but it is a nice way to seal in the moisture while using a breathable fabric.

Overall Assessment: Follow these 6 easy steps to pamper and moisturize your dry hands this winter, and you will see quite a difference. I try to do this at least once a week, and in addition to deeply moisturizing the skin, it is also very relaxing and pampering.

Step 3: Thoroughly rinse hands and empty the basin.

Step 4: Rinse out the basin and refill it with warm water and add a small amount of bath or body oil to moisturize your freshly exfoliated skin. Let your hands and feet soak for about 10-15 minutes, then rinse.

Step 5: Massage additional body oil into your slightly damp hands, and let it sink in thoroughly.

Step 6: Massage a rich cream, body butter or balm into your hands, and then put on cotton gloves (if you want to further pamper your hands).

5 Tips to Prep Hair for Summer

Fabian Lliguin, Rahua Co-founder, President, and New York Hairdresser provides 5 best tips for prepping hair pre-summer:

1. THE FRIZZ FACTOR: The humidity of warmer weather often results in frizzy hair. Dry, porous hair is attracted to the moisture (water) in the air which causes the cuticle to swell and change texture. The best way to avoid this is to keep your hair as hydrated as possible. One of the best ways to do this is to use plant-based ingredients which create a natural protective barrier on the hair. Using a regimen of hydrating products such as Rahua Hydration Shampoo, Hydration Conditioner (Reviewed HERE) and Hydration Detangler + UV Barrier will combat this phenomenon and help keep frizz at bay.

2. PROTECT YOUR SCALP FROM THE SUN: We all spend time putting sunscreens all over our face and body, but often forget that the scalp gets sunburned, too. Of course, covering your head with a hat or bandana will protect the scalp, but we aren’t wearing a hat every day. Protecting and caring for your scalp is essential by using a scalp treatment. Rahua Founder’s Blend Scalp and Hair Treatment (Reviewed HERE) is a non-toxic, plant powered treatment created with Hemp oil, Rahua oil and Palo Santo oil to strengthen follicles and balance the scalp’s microbiome. It’s nourishing for both the scalp and strands. You can spot treat or apply a light coat before hitting the beach or out in the sun to protect it and reap the benefits.

3. KEEP UP WITH HAIRCUTS: Regular trims during the summer is key to keeping the ends free of split ends and providing a healthy appearance. Using a product like Rahua Leave-In Treatment or Leave-In Treatment Light (for finer hair) (Reviewed HERE) helps to protect the ends and allow for good hair growth.

4. HAIR UNPLUGGED: Take a break from blow dryers, curling irons, flat irons, etc. and let your hair air dry! Prepping the hair with Rahua Hydration Detangler + UV Barrier or Rahua Control Cream are the perfect hair primers. The moisturizing formula of Rahua Hydration Detangler + UV Barrier not only detangles and blocks humidity, but leaves hair soft, smooth, and manageable. This is the time of the year to accentuate your own natural texture rather than fighting it. Products like Rahua Control Cream, Freestyle Texturizer and Enchanted Island Salt Spray are perfect for air dry styling to accentuate texture, waves, and curls.

5. MASKS ARE IN: Hair masks are a wonderful way to keep hair in optimum health. It’s a step that people often  feel they don’t have time for but applying a mask during the day and wearing your hair up is a great way to benefit from a treatment. You can do it before you hit the beach or just under a cap when you’re out and about. Rahua Omega 9 Hair Mask (Reviewed HERE), created with pure Symbiotic® natural Amazonian ingredients, deeply penetrates the hair shaft leaving hair strong, shiny, and revitalized.  Plus, the lavender and eucalyptus scent provides an uplifting, aromatherapy experience.

8 Skincare Tips for Fall & Winter from Celebrity Esthetician Elina Fedotova

As the weather and seasons start to transition, cooler temperatures also signal another important change. It’s time to adjust your skincare regimen and protect your skin differently during the Fall and Winter months. Elina Fedotova, celebrity esthetician and owner of Elina Organics Spas and Skincare, offers her top 8 tips for how to properly care for your skin, sharing everything from how to naturally seal in moisture to picking the best facial services to try.

1. Change Your Skincare Products

I firmly believe that we should not use the exact same skin care products continuously for a long time, no matter what the climate zone is that we live in. In two or three months, your skin can become acclimated to a particular formula and you will start becoming immune to it. In other words, you will notice the effectiveness of the product less and less. To avoid this problem, we sometimes need to change our skin routine.

I seasonally adjust every formula for my clients using only fresh botanicals. The effects of the formulations will stay the same whether it is to fight wrinkles, heal acne, or reduce irregular pigmentation, etc. The active ingredients in my products will remain the same, but the composition will vary just enough to keep your skin responsive and gain the best possible results.

2. Choose Emollients

Another reason to swap out your face creams is due to seasonal weather changes. Your skin care products should be more emollient in the winter and lighter in the summer in order to compensate for the effects of seasonal weather changes. In the northern states when winter could be harsh, our skin is at a higher risk of becoming over dried from intense winds outside and dry heat indoors. The blood vessels in your face and hands also become fragile from drastic temperature changes, as well. This is why we need to definitely use moisturizers with more emollience like shea butter, castor oil, avocado oil, etc.

3. Don’t Be Scared of Waxes

Plant and animal-based ingredients as well as bees wax and other natural waxes help to create a protective film over the skin which helps to prevent transdermal water loss and seal moisture in. You can also consider the same approach for the drier climate areas like in the desert or high in the mountains. In those climates, we have to prevent moisture evaporation from your skin.

4. Create a Special Routine for Travel

Do not forget to change your regimen when you travel. If you are flying in the middle of January from Michigan to Florida for vacation, stop using your heavy day cream because you may experience oily shine and even a few breakouts. If you have a normal to oily prone complexion when in warm climates with high humidity, your skin may do the best with the use of only treatment serums and sunscreen.

5. Incorporate Skin Polishing Services

It is sad to say goodbye to the beautiful summer. But on the bright side, we are getting into the seasons when we can really focus on deep skin rejuvenating procedures. In the summer time, we have to be careful and try to avoid services like photo facials because these types of services make us more photo sensitive. The winter season is the perfect time to say goodbye to your freckles and hyperpigmentation, little wrinkles and anything related to sun damage. We can actively start requesting services that use natural acid and enzyme peels, microdermabrasion, and other skin polishing procedures. We can also start to actively do photo rejuvenation. If you are coming for hydra facials, make sure that your skin is really protected with heavier creams enriched with oils and butters. As you know, if you expose really wet skin to the harsh winds, you can get frost bite. So, be careful in the winter with hydra facials and toners and use a heavier moisturizer before you go outside. It is also a great time for more intense procedures like platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and Dermapen treatments

6. Try Herbal, Protein Rich Facials

I suggest doing facials that contain masks with a high concentration of proteins and phospholipids to support the skins protective barrier. Facials with the use of honey and natural fruit acids will brighten, hydrate, and heal the skin after being wind burned. During the winter months, our skin usually looks pale and dull. To bring more natural color to the skin, you can do procedures with intense manual massage like Gua Sha stone massage, EMF, or microcurrent. This will increase circulation and will bring color and tone to your face. I wouldn’t suggest Cryo facials if you live in the colder states, I would take advantage of herbal facials with organic botanicals and warm compresses and skin nourishing masks made with whole plant ingredients.

7. Plug-In Your Humidifier

If you are sitting in the office or in your home with a heater, use a humidifier to prevent your skin from becoming very dry.

8. Shower Smarter

Sometimes in the cold months, we feel achy so many people love to take long hot showers in the morning or take a bath and that is very understandable. However, you need to remember that those long hot showers can lead to over drying your skin, especially in the winter. I do not suggest doing this on a regular basis. Instead of soap, you can use an oil-based sugar or sea salt scrub on the body. Also, you can use butter based polishing masks preferably with probiotics because it will help your skin’s microbiome which is essentially important for protective functions on your skin.

Valentine's Day Manicure Tips from Skyy Hadley

Images & Skyy Hadley Tips Courtesy of PR

Whatever you will be doing on Valentine’s Day, whether watching rom-coms at home or going out, there is nothing more festive than a pink or red manicure. Enjoy these fun Valentine's Day-inspired nail ideas from nail expert, Skyy Hadley, to give yourself a stunning manicure.

A lesson in red: If you can't decide which color is your perfect red, just try them all at once for this monochromatic look (shown above).

Tips from Skyy Hadley:
· Always use a base coat
· Stay away from quick-dry nail polish (it dehydrates and can dry out your nails)
· Apply cuticle oil religiously
· Hold your hands under cold water post paint job
· Apply thin, not thick, coats of polish
· Always use a top coat
Pink lines: Simply add a strip of thin tape horizontally, then paint over in your favorite pink lacquer. Wait until tacky, then remove the tape. Once the color is completely dry, finish the look with a clear top coat.

Skincare Tips for the Colder Weather

Now that the cooler season has officially arrived, it is time to revamp and revitalize our skincare routines in order to keep our skin balanced, nourished and hydrated– rather than traumatized by the extremes in temperature that can wreak havoc on its condition. Here is a list of a few things that you can do to pamper yourself while protecting your largest organ.

Don't make the assumption that what you used on your skin during the warmer months of the year will to be a good fit for the needs of your skin as the weather cools down. This is particularly true if you live in a region with bitter cold winters. Really listen to the needs of your skin.

1) Exfoliate, but don't overdo it. It's important to remove dead skin cells so that your skincare products can penetrate more easily and more deeply, and therefore be far more effective. Over exfoliating should be avoided as it leads to thinning of the skin, not to mention unnecessarily irritating it, and making it much more vulnerable to the elements. Appropriately exfoliated skin will also allow you to use less of your skincare products-- thus making it more economical as well.

2) Add a moisture or hydration rich serum into your beauty routine. You don't have to spend a fortune either. Something as simple as adding Hyaluronic Acid to your moisturizer, or before you apply your moisturizer, will really bolster your hydration level.

3) Consider adding oils into your beauty routine. Oils are such a great moisture delivery system, and while they aren't for everyone-- they are the gold standard for many people (myself included). There are so many different face oils to choose from on the market right now, and they are available from those economically priced to those in the upper tiers of the luxury price range- so they can accommodate every budget.

4) Switch up your cleansers as you would shampoos. During the drier colder months try to avoid more stripping cleansers because your skin really needs to retain its natural oils. I rotate my cleansers all year round, but I am currently obsessed with Sponge Gel Katharistiko Wild Herb Cleanser because it is so gentle and hydrating, and it simultaneously deeply cleans the skin without stripping it. This is what is going to get my combination skin through the colder months- though I used it with great success during the summer as well.

5) Remember exposure to indoor heaters followed by outdoor cold air wreaks havoc on your skin- as it is given no time to recover from these extreme conditions (each being extreme in their own right). This is a good time to switch up your moisturizer in favor of something more nourishing and hydrating. You don't want your skin to look and feel like this, after all!! I always use a face oil as a serum, applied sparingly, beneath my moisturizer AM and PM. This leaves my skin super hydrated, soft, and with a gorgeous glow.

6) Don't forget your sunscreen- just because it isn't warm outside doesn't mean that the harmful UVA & UVB rays aren't doing damage! Don't forget about your ears, neck, chest and hands- they need sun protection as well!

7) Speaking of your neck, chest and hands-- don't forget to moisturize them!! They will bare the brunt of much of your exposure to the elements, and will likely age at a more rapid pace than your face-- in large part due to the fact that we so often neglect them. Do to these areas what you do to your face-- otherwise your face can end up looking like it belongs to a youthful man/woman, while your hands, neck, and chest will look like they belong to his/her grandfather/grandmother. Use richer creams specifically targeted for these areas, or just something richer and more emollient than you might normally use.

8) Consider a nighttime serum to help reverse environmental damage and the ravages of time. Nighttime is when your skin naturally goes into repair mode- so giving it a little help can go a long way. Many active serums contain ingredients that cause photo-sensitivity, and for that reason alone should never be used during the day.  It's also important to use a high SPF sunscreen during the day when you add such products into your routine. When in doubt, consult your doctor or dermatologist-- I do that all of the time!! Sometimes a little spot on the face may actually be precancerous, or worse yet cancer. Therefore, before taking it upon yourself to treat pesky spots with over-the-counter products, consult with your doctor. One can do far more damage than good when applying cosmetic and cosmeceutical products unwittingly to cancerous or precancerous lesions or spots. When in doubt- go see a dermatologist, seriously. I have had numerous sun spots removed that would have eventually turned into skin cancer. Your doctor can also look over the ingredients in your serum and tell you whether or not they should be avoided. My doctor is quite used to this with me!

9) Don't forget your delicate eye area- it may require a slightly richer eye cream during the colder months. This is tricky for me since rich eye creams often give me milia- so I tend to look for moisture rich eye creams that are lighter in texture, rather than thick dense ones that generally cause me so much trouble.

10) Don't forget about your lips!! You may want to exfoliate your lips periodically, but gently. They will need more moisture than usual- especially if you plan to partake in some of the seasons on trend lipsticks. My trick is to always apply just a small dab of lip balm under all of my lip products. This locks in moisture, and when applied sparingly functions as an effective lip primer. I find that a more matte finish in a lip balm to be more effective (i.e. EOS Lip Balm and Suki Lip Repair Butter), however you don't have to rush out and buy yet another lip balm-- try using your favorite lip balm sparingly.

11) And what about that hair?! This is a good time to use a clarifying shampoo to remove all manner of product build-up, and then use your favorite deep conditioner to keep your tresses happy and conditioned during the cooler weather.

12) This is also a good time to exfoliate your body, and perhaps to switch from lighter lotions to richer ones. I like to exfoliate my skin, and then with my skin still slightly damp I apply an emollient rich body oil sparingly. You will be surprised just how quickly it is absorbed when your skin is still warm and damp- plus it's a great trick to use less product. They come in all price ranges- so there really is something for everyone. I am as obsessed with body oils as I am with face oils-- I find them to be a very effective and pleasant way of delivering superb hydration to the skin. If your skin still needs more moisture- add your favorite body butter or moisturizer on top, and you will immediately see and feel the difference!

Summer Skincare Tips from Dermatologist Dr. Jessica Weiser

PSA (Unaffiliated Links)

With summer  less than two weeks away, this is the time to think about protecting your skin. Therefore, I have sought out tips from an expert, and here is what Board Certified Dermatologist Dr. Jessica Weiser, from New York Dermatology Group, suggests that we do to protect our skin this season:

1. Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! The sun is directly overhead and therefore most intense from 11am – 3pm.  Apply UVA/UVB protection with at least SPF 30 every 2 hours to the skin and lips for best protection. Use physical sunscreens such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide to prevent UV damage and avoid chemical absorption into the skin. A teaspoon quantity should be used to cover the face and a shot glass quantity to cover the body. Make sure your sunscreen is not expired! Additionally, consider taking Lysine to reduce the frequency and severity of outbreaks.

2. Use Cleansing oil to remove sunscreen and makeup: Follow this with a gentle wash to cleanse the skin. Make sure to gently exfoliate 2-3 times a week to prevent pores from clogging.

3. Soothe irritated skin with lightweight oils and moisturizers to allow skin to be protected and properly hydrated: Sweat can be irritating to skin. Try rosewater or rosehip oil, which are soothing and reduce skin inflammation.  Antioxidants are a helpful way to combat oxidative or free radical damage that skin incurs from the sun and environment.

4. Use A Retinol-Based Product Before Bedtime: This will help control oil gland production, keep pores small and tight, and continue the anti-aging process by stimulating collagen production. Be careful though because retinol can make the skin more sensitive to the sun!

5. Check for Ticks nightly if you Are in an Area Endemic to Deer Ticks and Lyme disease: If you remove the tick before it becomes swollen (or engorged) you can stop the transmission of Lyme disease and save yourself a long course of antibiotics, or even worse, the consequences of untreated Lyme disease
Use Caffeine-Based Body Moisturizers: If you don't have time for in office procedures, caffeine-based moisturizers can provide several hours of improved skin texture and smoothness to reduce appearance of cellulite and other skin surface irregularities.

6. Sandal Season FYI: Hydrate the soles of feet and heels with moisturizing creams daily before bed, ideally overnight with a pair of white cotton socks (only if you are not prone to fungal infection), and exfoliate soles and heels at least twice weekly. For especially dry heels or feet or if not responding to typical exfoliation and hydration, speak with your dermatologist to make sure you don't have a specific variant of athlete's foot that affects the soles of the feet known as moccasin type. If not athlete’s foot, over the counter ammonium lactate lotions can help break down moderate dead skin. For severe dry skin try prescription-strength urea cream, which helps break down dead skin cells and smoothe skin more intensively.

7. Use Chemical Exfoliants in the Evening: Apply products in the evening for tone control to prevent skin tone from becoming uneven. Examples include glycolic acid, lactic acid, kojic acid and Symwhite. These chemical exfoliants can increase sun sensitivity, so be sure to use sunscreen each day and wear a hat for best results.
