Empties Post Volume XV: October 2013 Edition

October was a very good month for finishing up a lot of full-sized products. Truthfully I'm not quite sure how I managed to finish up so many products this month. I was aware that I was getting close on many of the things featured here, but was caught off guard when I hit the last pump on the two My serums and the Dr. Brandt Glow Overnight Resurfacing Serum. Because those three are housed in air-free opaque pump containers I really never knew what was left in the bottles until they simply stopped dispensing product!

The HYD For Men Shave Cream (reviewed here) is a wonderful creamy and moisturizing shave cream that is just lovely to use. While it belonged to my husband, I did dip into it on more than one occasion because I liked it so much!

The La Roche-Posay Solution Micellaire Physiologique (reviewed here) is a nice cleansing water, but I would prefer it to be completely fragrance free. I still prefer the Koh Gen Do Spa Cleansing Water-- I have yet to find anything that compares to this lovely product!

DermOrganic Daily Hydrating Conditioner with Argan Oil (reviewed here): This is a wonderfully moisturizing conditioner that works wonders on my naturally curly hair. I will definitely be purchasing a replacement bottle.

Michael O'Rourke Rock Your Hair Leave-In Conditioner Weightless Detangler (reviewed here): Don't let the whimsical packaging fool you- this is a highly effective Leave-In Conditioner. I will definitely be purchasing a replacement bottle!

Painted Earth Blueberry Cranberry Oxygen Scrub (reviewed here): This is a very very nice face scrub, and I liked it so much on my face that I tried it on my body (and what a treat that was!).

Dr. Hauschka SPF 30 Sunscreen Cream for Children and Sensitive Skin: This is a nice sunscreen, but it had become quite old (and no doubt had expired) so after one last spin I emptied the last little bit into the garbage and recycled the tube.

Tom Ford Jasmine Rouge Eau de Parfum sample: I am actually quite fond of this scent. It is far too sharp when I first apply it, but once it settles in it is quite lovely.

Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel (reviewed here): This is a highly effective non-foaming cleanser that is gentle while being highly effective. It removes dead skin cells effortlessly and leaves skin so silky smooth. It is unquestionably one of my Holy Grail cleansers!

Mario Badescu Seaweed Cleansing Lotion (reviewed here): Another hit by Mario Badescu!! This is a gentle alcohol-free toner that has become my very favorite toner. On the rare occasions that I am too tired to wash my face- I saturate a cotton ball with this toner and it removes every trace of makeup (not made for eye makeup removal) and leaves my skin feeling wonderful!

Mario Badescu Hyaluronic Eye Cream (reviewed here): This is an excellent moisturizing eye cream that is light, quick absorbing, and highly effective!

Mario Badescu Oil Free Moisturizer SPF 17: This is very moisturizing oil free moisturizer that is great for combination or oily skin types.

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Extra Strength Formula (overview here): This two-step at home peel is amazing. I only have a few packets left, and find this system so effective that I plan to buy the biggest box that they make during Sephora's upcoming F&F or VIB sale!

The Organic Pharmacy Collagen Boost Mask (reviewed here): I think at this point that it has become fairly obvious that I am thoroughly obsessed with everything that I have tried from The Organic Pharmacy, and their Collagen Boost Mask is just as amazing as you might imagine! It tightens, lifts and brightens the skin- giving your face an instant radiance and glow. I love this mask, and often use it as a serum!

Radical Skincare Age-Defying Exfoliating Pads: Radical Skincare is utterly amazing (stay tuned- I will be reviewing many products from the line soon). Their Age-Defying Exfoliating pads are highly effective, and brilliantly conceived. One side of the round disk has a rougher texture (but not too rough) to encourage the exfoliation of dead skin cells, and the other side is smooth to whisk away those dead cells and even out the surface of the skin. This is an amazing product.

Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream: Nice, but I didn't find it particularly unique.

Armani Maestro Eraser Concealer sample packet: I love this concealer and have a full-size tube. One of these days I will get around to reviewing it. It spreads easily and doesn't cake up or settle into fine lines. The texture is very nice and smooth.
Kiss My Face Cucumber Green Tea Deodorant: Gentle, lovely, effective, and not filled with potentially harmful chemicals. I have replaced this several times, and will continue to buy it!

TATCHA Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil (reviewed here): Absolutely divine! This is an amazing cleansing oil. It is so effective at removing every trace of makeup, and it so thoroughly cleanses the skin  that you really don't need to double cleanse. I love TATCHA products!

My Dynamic Lifting Serum (reviewed here): This is a lovely gel-based lifting serum that absorbs quickly and has a definite lifting and firming effect on the skin. A lovely product from an amazing line!

My Skin Recovery Formula (reviewed here): This is an amazing lightweight skin-brightening serum that targets damaged skin to even out skin-tone, restore radiance, promote firmness, and diminishes the appearance of acne scarring, age or sunspots, and wrinkles. This is a wonderfully hardworking serum filled with all sorts of healthy ingredients! A+

Dr. Brandt Glow Overnight Resurfacing Serum with 2% Active Retinol (reviewed here): This is a very nice nighttime retinol based serum, and despite the high percentage of retinol it never caused my skin to peel. I really like this product, but the next retinol-based product that I plan to try is prescription Retin-A because I want to experience the difference between the over-the-counter and prescription versions.

What did you finish, toss, give away, or return in October? Anything that you will repurchase?

The Beauty Spotlight Team Sends Helen from Lola's Secret Beauty Blog to Their Desert Island- What Were My Must-Have Beauty Picks?

Source
When it was my time to be dropped off on The Beauty Spotlight Team Desert Island I found myself enchanted by the idea of getting away from the stress of work and peacefully sitting on the beach and sipping a Mojito. That I was only allowed to take 12 items on this adventure meant that I really had to think through what I absolutely needed to have under those circumstances. The choices that I did make needed to be pragmatic, and the products needed to rank among my favorites, whenever possible. I also decided to take a more literal approach to being abandoned on a desert island. Realizing that I would have little need for makeup- I opted to make it all about skincare (both face and body). The nearby residing mermen provide the island guests with sunscreen and lip balm- therefore I was not required to bring those two items with me since they were available in limitless supply.

I didn't bring tweezers or a razor in order to eliminate unwanted hair- because I assumed that the mermen were adept at using found objects on the island to take care of such matters (these mermen are sea spa certified aestheticians, and are both inventive and highly skilled at their craft). I am, therefore, embracing the idea that my island getaway is ostensibly a beauty retreat. I also didn't bring shampoo, conditioner, or a brush- because it is my hope that my ingenious mermen will have a solution, or that one of my Beauty Spotlight Team friends left some of these items behind. However, in a pinch I can always use a few of my beauty products to keep my hair clean and conditioned.

I decided that since I was going to be exposed to the elements that I needed to bring lots of serums and potions that would fight free-radicals, and offer plenty of added anti-aging protection. My rationale was that anti-aging products coupled with a high SPF sunscreen would combat the aging effects of my exposure to the elements, and by the time that I was rescued my skin would be healthy, glowing, and gorgeous.
For the Face:
For the Body:
The individual products:

1) FutureDerm Time Release Retinol 0.5 (reviewed here): I swear by high quality retinol based products- they keep skin clear and lines at bay. I use it at night only, and then load up on sunscreen the following day to keep my skin ultra-protected after treatment (retinol can cause photosensitivity- therefore it is imperative to use a sunscreen everyday). My exposure to the elements on the desert island requires that I take extra good care of my skin- therefore I knew that I had to bring this retinol with me!
2) vbeauté It Kit (reviewed here): The It Kit includes large travel sizes of Undercover Agent Anti-Wrinkle Protecting Serum (reviewed here), Rub Off Gentle Facial Exfoliator (reviewed here), Evidence Eraser Gentle Foaming Cleanser (reviewed here), Buying Time Everyday Crème (reviewed here) and Eye Never Nourishing Repair Eye Crème (reviewed here). The It Kit is the perfect skincare travel companion because it really does include everything that you need for a getaway. I will use these products day and night, and the result will be gorgeous, clean, glowing skin. The carrying case is so chic, and it includes a nice big mirror that I will surely use daily on the island.
3) Koh Gen Do Cleansing Water (reviewed here): This amazing cleansing water will be the perfect must-have beauty treat while I am a resident on the Beauty Spotlight Team Desert Island. Not only is it a refreshing tonic for the skin, that I can use whenever my skin feels a little dirty, but it can also be used it lieu of a cleanser whenever I'm too tired to wash my face.

4) The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Face Firming Serum (review forthcoming).
5) The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Face Gel (review forthcoming).
6) The Organic Pharmacy Rose Plus Marine Collagen Complex (review forthcoming).

These three serums can be used individually or in concert, and when combined they are a triple threat in the realm of anti-aging products. The Antioxidant Face Firming Serum is a lovely face oil that has the fresh bouquet of oranges and orange blossom. It effortlessly melts into the skin leaving behind an amazing glow and exquisite hydration. When used with the Antioxidant Face Gel and Rose Plus Marine Collagen Complex, the skin is not only protected against free radicals, but the texture and clarity of the skin are markedly improved. My skin looks bright, clear, hydrated, and utterly amazing because of these three little bottles! They definitely rank among my greatest recent skincare discoveries, and will serve me well on the Desert Island (and when I return to civilization).

7) vbeauté Lip Spread (reviewed here): Lip Spread was chosen for this trip not only because it is filled with anti-aging properties, but also because it is a gorgeous pink-tinted lip gloss that I can also use lightly on my cheeks if I want an added pop of color. This is one of those Holy Grail products that I won't leave  home without, and it was an obvious choice for my Desert Island retreat.

8) My Prime Skin Recovery Formula (reviewed here): This is an amazing serum that is a very lightweight skin-brightening treatment that gives skin an unmistakable dewy glow while simultaneously targeting skin damage. I wouldn't even consider braving the elements of the Desert Island retreat without having this little beauty warrior in my arsenal. This corrective serum will offset any inadvertent damage that the island weather conditions may cause, and the more prepared that I am- the better are my chances of maintaining beautiful and healthy skin! No desert island destination would be complete without the inclusion of this Holy Grail skincare magician!

9) Kate Somerville Exfolikate (reviewed here): While I do have a lovely exfoliator in my It Kit, I still had to include Exfolikate. Exfolikate is no normal exfoliator, instead it resides somewhere between a peel and a physical exfoliant. Exfolikate literally melts away dead skin because of all of the fruit enzymes and Salicylic Acid, and the effects are truly remarkable. It is a very powerful treatment that reduces the appearance of fine lines, gives the skin an unbelievable glow, and unclogs pores. On the evenings that I use this, I will skip my retinol, and just use a serum and moisturizer. I will continually repurchase this unbelievably effective product.

10) Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Body Oil (reviewed here): This is definitely my very favorite body oil of all time. It is luxurious and delightfully moisturizing- making it an obvious choice. I can also use it in my hair for added moisture and conditioning.

11) Sponge Galaktoma Somatos Body Lotion (reviewed here): This gorgeous body lotion is filled with all sorts of anti-aging ingredients, and it was for this reason that I decided to bring it to use in conjunction with Olio Lusso. I will need to treat the rest of my body with the same care and respect that I would my face, and this lotion will offer ample protection.

12) kai deodorant (reviewed here): This is definitely my very favorite deodorant, and the lovely floral scent evokes an island paradise- therefore it is befitting that it would be one of my twelve choices.
Source
The gracious mermen told me that they would bring me any lip balm and sunscreen that I would like to use during my stay- even if my choices were extravagant. I needed no time to decide what I wanted- so I submitted my order, and then waited on the beach for the merman to arrive.
Source
Poor Sebastian the merman was swimming as fast as he could to make the delivery! And once he arrived, he handed me these three magical Holy Grail products and made me a Mojito. We chatted and he told me about some of the beauty treatments that I would be enjoying while getting some much needed R&R!
Since the sunscreens and lip balms were being provided to me in a limitless supply, I decided to use my beloved Clarins UV PLUS HP Ecran Multi-Protection SPF 40 (reviewed here) from head to toe! I also decided that I would choose two lip balms instead of just one because Sebastian suggested that some variation would be good. He asserted that I should use one with sunscreen for day use, and another without for use during the evenings. I chose my beloved Rodin Olio Lusso Lip Balm for the evenings (enthusiastically reviewed here), and the glorious By Terry Baume de Rose (reviewed here) for the days that I frolic in the sun since it contains an SPF. Between these two lip balms and my Lip Spread Anti-Age Tinting Lip Gloss- I will be set!
Source
After Sebastian swam away, I crawled into my hammock and took the most peaceful nap without a worry or a care. Later I will take a nice long walk on the beach, and a dip in the ocean to hang out with the school of mermen. My stay on this lovely island is so peaceful that I might just hide when the Beauty Spotlight Team comes to retrieve me after my two week stay comes to an end!

While I am decidedly a city girl, and my idea of the perfect island looks more like this- I have to admit the peace and quiet of the Beauty Spotlight Team Desert Island offered me a level of relaxation that is seldom found in the midst of a busy bustling city.

Empties Post Volume VII: February 2013

This month my Empties post is fairly lacking in full size products since I am still testing out several new products and brands, and as a result I only managed to finish a few full size products. I did however, manage to finish a few samples that had been in a partially used state for quite a while.

Skincare: I was quite sad when I finally finished the My Transformative Night Cream (reviewed here) because it is such a lovely and effective night cream. It leaves the skin looking and feeling fantastic, and is definitely worthy of replacement. Malin+Goetz is often an under-the-radar line, but their products are lovely and effective. They have a simple approach to skincare, and they don't make any wild unattainable claims. Instead their products deliver on their promises, and they are always a true pleasure to use. Their Vitamin E Face Moisturizer feels wonderful on the skin, and delivers the perfect amount of moisture. Remedy Hydrating Cleansing Foam (reviewed here) is a really creamy foaming cleanser, and while it does a fantastic job cleaning you from head to toe- I found that it makes a phenomenal shaving cream. Tatcha Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder- ahh where to begin- this product is just pure magic. It leaves your skin indescribably clean and as soft and supple as baby skin.
Hair and Body: The Nature's Gate Pomegranate Sunflower Conditioner is something that I found on sale at the grocery store- so I thought that I would give it a try, and I'm glad that I did! It was very moisturizing and left my curly hair quenched with nice bouncy curls. While the Alaffia Liquid African Black Soap is a bit too stringent for my face- it is exquisite as a body cleanser, and as a big fan of Alaffia's African Black Soap range of products- you can be sure that I will be repurchasing it (reviewed here). I found a few more sample packets of Ouidad Climate Hair & Humidity Gel in my sample drawer that I wanted to use up before opening my new bottle- I love how well this tames frizz and defines my curls. I had a pile of assorted samples of haircare and body care products from Sephora, Nordstrom, and Barneys that I wanted to use up, but truthfully I no longer remember what was in each of those little jars!
Makeup and Fragrance: The Houglass Mineral Veil Primer sample was perfect for traveling, and lasted a good long time. It is definitely one of my very favorite primers, and is well worth purchasing. Somehow I managed to lose the Kai Perfume Oil vial (reviewed here) right before I shot the picture, but as you know I hopelessly love this scent, and will continually replace my full size bottle. It took me quite a while to get through this Chap Stick Lip Moisturizer because I have so many lip balms currently in rotation, but I really liked this one. I also really liked the Burberry Sheer Foundation, and I imagine that I will eventually purchase a full size bottle once I have used up some of my stash.
Dispatched to the recycle bin: All of these lip products were so old that they were no longer worth keeping- let alone using.  I cleaned out what was left, and bid them farewell.

What did you use, toss, give away, or return this month? Do tell!

My Prime Dynamic Lifting Serum- Review

About My:
My Prime Anti-Aging Formulas combine pure Asian botanicals with advanced skincare science.
We are proud to introduce our debut collection of premium anti-aging essentials. In keeping with the highest standards for beauty formulas, all of our products are enclosed in unique airless packaging, which protects our ingredients from external contaminants while dispensing the perfect dose up until the last drop. We invite you to make My yours, and journey to a better you. (source)
Dynamic Lifting Serum is a very powerful, fast-absorbing gel-based serum that is formulated to firm the skin.

Benefits:
  • Provides immediate and long-term firming benefits
  • Delivers a contoured, lifted, and toned appearance
  • Softens and smooths skin texture
Here are my observations based upon using it everyday for more than a month: I apply this gel-based lifting gel immediately after cleansing and before the Skin Recovery Formula, then I apply my moisturizer. The light gel formula soaks right into the skin quickly and easily. Immediately after applying this cool gel, my skin feels refreshed, soft, smooth, and rejuvenated. My skin also feels toned and more taut, but not tight and uncomfortable. My skin has an unmistakable glow when I use this serum, but one of the things that I most noticed was how remarkably effective this product is when I have gotten a poor night of sleep and my skin bares the brunt of my sleep deprivation. I'm not talking about insomnia, but instead midnight animal shenanigans that leave me exhausted the following day. I have found that this lovely little serum makes my skin look so refreshed and renewed that you would have no idea just how tired I actually was until I began to nod off mid-conversation. I jest of course about falling asleep talking, but my point is that the active botanicals (Mangosteen and Rosemary Extracts) coupled with the potent microalgae complex (PEPHA®-TIGHT) are powerhouse ingredients that go a long long way to restoring the appearance of glowing, well rested, and taut skin. I also have to make the point that the tactile experience is as delightful as the product is effective. I mention this largely because I know many of you are like me, and relish the personal time spend engaged in your morning and evening skincare routines. For me, this time is all about pampering myself and enjoying the tactile experience of the products and how they melt into my skin. Therefore, an enjoyable texture is a key part of the experience, and this product satisfies that need for me. This is a superior quality product that is at once effective, and unbelievable pleasant to use. I really love how this serum makes my skin look and feel. Let's be clear that it won't make you look 20 when you are 90, but it certainly will make your skin look and feel great.

My Prime Skin Recovery Formula- Review

(source)

One of the great secrets to this luxurious skincare line can be found in the use of Pili and Moringa Oils that function as the "cornerstone of select My Prime Anti-Aging Formulas. Rich in antioxidants and omega fatty acids, these extraordinary botanical oils have historically been used by Filipino women to achieve healthy, ageless skin." To read more about Pili and Moringa oils click here.

Pili Oil is "indigenous to the fertile Bicol region of the Philippines, the Canarium Ovatum (“Pili”) tree is the source of a superior restorative oil that contains high concentrations of omega fatty acids and Vitamins A and E. These age-defying ingredients allow Pili oil to rejuvenate the skin by infusing it with deep hydration while also calming redness and inflammation. Moreover, compared to olive oil, Pili oil contains more beta-carotene (a known Vitamin A source), which encourages cell renewal and improves the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Pili oil is gentle enough for all skin types, and absorbs easily into the skin to impart a light, youthful glow. To ensure the purity of the oil, local Filipino farmers grow the Pili tree without fertilizers or pesticides. The farmers then manually extract the oil from the pulp of the Pili fruit without using any additives." (source)
Moringa Oil is "widely cultivated in the Philippines, the Moringa Oleifera tree is considered one of the most nutritious plants on the planet. Living up to its reputation as a “miracle tree,” the Moringa tree is packed with omega fatty acids and a multitude of antioxidants including Vitamins A, C, and E. Nutritionally, it contains more Vitamin A than carrots, more Vitamin C than oranges, more potassium than bananas, and more calcium and protein than milk. Moringa oil is extracted from the seeds of the tree using environmentally sustainable practices. Supercharged with anti-aging benefits, this lightweight oil penetrates deep into the skin to enhance proper cell growth, replenish hydration, and bolster the skin’s natural defense against environmental attack. In addition, its high concentration of Vitamin C makes Moringa oil a natural skin brightener that helps even skin tone. Moringa oil is suitable for all skin types." (source)

My Skin Recovery Formula is a lightweight, skin-brightening treatment that targets skin damage while simultaneously imparting a healthy dewy glow.
Among the Chief benefits:
  • Brightens and evens skin tone for a radiant look
  • Promotes skin firmness and resilience
  • Diminishes the appearance of age spots, acne marks, and wrinkles
  • Soothes redness and inflammation
Here's what I found after using it daily for over a month: Initially I only used Skin Recovery Formula at night, but when I saw how wonderful my skin looked at felt, I decided to use it both night and day. It really does brighten the skin- my skin has an unmistakable healthy radiant glow or luminosity to it- as though lit from within.  There is an evenness of texture and tone to my skin that negates the necessity to wear a foundation. While I have no age spots or acne marks, I do have a few areas with sun damage, that have markedly diminished. I also don't have wrinkles to combat so much as expression lines, and their depth has undoubtedly been lessened. While I do not tend to have much redness, as a general rule, I did have the opportunity to put My's claims to the test about soothing redness and inflammation.  At my recent yearly physical I had my doctor freeze off a mole on my forehead which left an inflamed red mess in its wake, as it began to heal it left behind tender pink skin that I didn't want to have scar or become hyperpigmented. Therefore, in addition to slathering on copious amounts of sunscreen, I applied Skin Recovery Formula 2-3/x a day, and now miraculously that area is nearly the color of the surrounding tissue.

This is a powerhouse peptide rich anti-aging serum that boosts microcirculation for a luminous effect. It effectively combats redness, age and sun spots, acne scars, and wrinkles, and gives skin a firm and even appearance. It feels wonderfully nourishing on the skin, and it sinks in very quickly. I really love the way that my skin looks and feels when I use this product, and I really could see the difference when I went from using it once a day to using it twice a day. The real shock was how quickly it healed the reddened inflamed tissue from my mole removal. It astounds me how vastly improved skincare products are as a result of all of the advanced technologies employed in their making, and My is certainly a prime example of just that. If you are looking for results, look no further.

How to use: After cleansing each morning and night, apply to face and neck. Gently massage into skin.  Follow with your moisturizer, but for optimal results use MY Prime Multi-Purpose Mattifying Moisturizer.
Key Sciences:
  • ALPAFLOR® GIGAWHITE™: A gentle, preservative-free botanical complex that noticeably improves skin tone, and diminishes the appearance of skin discoloration associated with sun damage and acne marks.
  • SYN-®COLL: An anti-aging peptide that helps boost natural collagen production, promotes skin firmness and resilience, and minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • TIMECODE™: A complexion enhancer that restores luminosity by calming inflammation, reducing redness, and improving microcirculation.
  • Pili + Moringa Oils: Soothing botanicals that smooth, hydrate, and revive dull-looking skin with omega fatty acids and Vitamins A, C and E.
Research Results:

  • 60% of subjects showed a reduction in mottled hyperpigmentation.
  • 60% of subjects showed a reduction in wrinkles in the forehead area.

My Prime Skincare Transformative Night Cream with Pili & Moringa Oils- REVIEW

Click here for an overview of My, and here my review of My Weightless Eye Cream, and here for my review of My Multi-Purpose Mattifying Moisturizer.
According to My, Transformative Night Cream is a revitalizing essential that visibly transforms the skin giving it a "vibrant and ageless" appearance.

Among the Benefits:
  • Supports natural collagen production and skin renewal
  • Restores the vitality and radiance of youthful skin
  • Hydrates and protects against environmental attack
Key Science Employed:

1) SURVICODE™: An innovative active ingredient that helps enhance natural collagen production, and bolsters the skin’s natural ability to regenerate.
2) PEPHA®-CTIVE: A powerful algae complex that reawakens the skin’s vitality and radiance.
3) ALPAFLOR® BUDDLEJA AO: An extract from a rare Swiss plant that provides antioxidant protection against environmental stressors.
3) Pili + Moringa Oils: Superior botanicals that hydrate, smooth, and nourish lackluster skin with omega fatty acids and Vitamins A, C and E.

Research Results: In an independent, six-week clinical study, 68% of subjects showed an increase in cell turnover.
My experience: I can most definitely see why Tessa refers to the Transformative Night Cream as the "Cadillac" in the My Prime Skincare collection-- this cream boasts a powerhouse combination of ingredients making it a super-charged and highly effective antioxidant rich, super hydrating anti-aging night cream. Initially I was a little bit worried about trying a thick night cream because I have combination skin and feared that it might be too rich for me. However, after a single use my fears were allayed. After more than a month of nightly use I observed that when I woke up the following morning that my skin was extremely hydrated, radiant, silky smooth and supple, and it had an unmistakable glow. I also noted that I looked more rested- even if I wasn't- which I can only attribute to the fact that this cream left my skin looking balanced and nourished. I was initially fearful that a thick and powerful night cream would over-activate my t-zone and cause me to break out, but it has not. The texture is a bit of an anomaly to me in that it is simultaneously thick and rich, yet light and highly absorptive- I'm not quite sure how to reconcile these seeming polarities, but this is part of the brilliance of this cream. Additionally, as noted in my review of the Multi-Purpose Mattifying Moisturizer, the Transformative Night Cream likewise absorbs quickly and leaves behind no oily or greasy film, and it is also ostensibly has a matte finish. I'm am not sure how such a high power anti-aging product that is super charged with powerful anti-oxidant anti-aging ingredients can do all of the aforementioned things while leaving no trace of having been slathered on your face and neck. The proof is not only in the way that my skin looks the following morning, but also in the cumulative effects of how my skin looks and has responded to this lovely cream after extended use.
Ingredients: Purified Water, Glycerin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ceteareth-20, Glyceryl Dilaurate, Sodium Cocoyl Alaninate, Moringa Oleifera (Moringa) Oil, Canarium Ovatum (Pili) Pulp Oil, Algae Extract, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Pectin, Chlorella Vulgaris/Lupinus Albus Protein Ferment, Buddleja Davidii Extract, Squalane, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides, Allantoin, Hyaluronic Acid, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Polysorbate 20, Lecithin, Retinol Molecular Film Fluid, Mangosteen Extract, Platycarya Strobilacea Extract, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Mallotus Japonicus Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Phenoxyethanol (and) Caprylyl Glycol (and) Sorbic Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate.

My's founder and CEO, Tessa Yutadco, has implemented social responsibility initiatives that were specifically designed to improve the lives of the Filipino women and men who harvest and extract the Pili and Moringa oils used in My products (read more here). It is also important to note that the Pili and Moringa oils are sustainably harvested, and are grown without fertilizers or pesticides. Unlike so many skincare companies, My is uncompromising in the commitment to quality ingredients, healthy products, social responsibility, and transparency in everything they do. It is for these reasons, coupled with the sheer quality of the products, that I am so excited to have found My! Did I mention that My is CRUELTY FREE?!

Tessa takes her social responsibility initiatives very seriously, and as proof of this she has announced the following new partnership: August 8, 2012 through September 8, 2012 My will be donating 50% of the proceeds from ALL My purchases to Best Buddies International! Image source. My is one of the few companies out there that is ideologically in tune with the big picture-- not just in terms of providing the highest quality skincare, but also in terms of an innate awareness and respect of the needs of the world around us. Tessa really believes in both nurturing the skin, but more importantly in nurturing the planet and those who call it home. I absolutely believe in My, and in Tessa.
Overall assessment: A very unique highly effective night cream that has earned a resounding A+ in my book! I also love the air-tight dispenser that is so cleverly conceived- you simply depress the top and the cream pumps up through a small hole- thus keeping the contents fresh, potent, and germ free!

August Favorites that are on My Best of the Best List!

In our recent hot weather, I have been trying to achieve clean exfoliated skin while using minimal makeup, and by using things that smell and feel like summertime (light, appealing, and feel and smell good). Some things are old favorites while others rank among my new obsessions. One prevailing theme, however, is that I am trying not to use too many products. This also does not reflect the only products that I am currently using, nor does it address the fact that I never leave the house without wearing lots of high SPF sunscreen. So here's what and why:

1) Suki Renewal Bio-Resurfacing Facial Peel (reviewed here): I have been using this product for many many years now because it is a safe and highly effective, and cruelty free (and vegan) peel that really does wonders. My skin glows and is smoother and more refined after use. It's probably going to be too active for people with very sensitive skin. I use it about once a week- sometimes less. It just depends on whether or not my skin appears to need some exfoliating. I would urge you to get a sample to try first because potent peels are definitely not for everyone.

2) Kate Somerville Exfolikate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment (reviewed here): This is a seriously powerful exfoliating treatment, and definitely not for sensitive skin. She also has Exfolikate Gentle which is a much more, well,  gentle version of Exfolikate. This seriously removes dead skin, dislodges gunk trapped in my pores, and makes my skin glow. I would strongly urge you to try samples of both versions before buying to determine whether these products are right for you.

3) Koh Gen Do Cleansing Water (reviewed here): This is seriously one of the best skincare discoveries that I have made in the last 10 years or so!! This is great for removing all forms of makeup, but it is also doubles as an amazing toner. It feels amazing on the skin, and is so light and refreshing. However,  this is a bit too mild a formula to tackle waterproof makeup for me.

4) Sponge Gel Katharistiko (review forthcoming): This is my new favorite cleanser. There is something so soothing, refreshing, wholesome, and extremely effective about this product. I use it with my Clarisonic in the morning, and my combination skin feels thoroughly cleaned, nourished, and never stripped. It foams up just enough to make a delicious tactile experience. The more I try from Sponge the more I am in love.

5) Sponge Ladi Avokanto (reviewed here): I am completely obsessed with this gorgeous nourishing oil. The moment that I sampled it at Barneys it was true love and I bought a bottle. I usually am not quite this impetuous with skincare purchases, and tend to prefer trying a sample at home for a little while before committing to buying the full sized product. My skin is sometimes quite finicky and reactive, but I have had such great luck with face oils that this really seemed like a risk worth taking (plus I was given a few sample packets to try just in case I had an allergic reaction-- that way I could return the unopened bottle). Well, let me tell you my skin loves this oil! I have been using it primarily at night, but when I wake up the following day my skin looks glowing and healthy- and it is supple, smooth, soft and hydrated. This and Sponge Gel Katharistiko are my greatest new finds.

6) My Weightless Eye Cream (reviewed here): This is such an amazing and praiseworthy eye cream. I barely know where to begin singing its praises. It is light, it sinks in quickly, it profoundly hydrates, and it really improves the texture of the delicate under eye area. It also reduces the appearance of dark circles and fine lines, and it feels amazing.

7) My Multi-Purpose Mattifying Moisturizer (reviewed here): This is an amazing moisturizer that is power packed with anti-aging antioxidants. It leaves your skin soft and supple with an unmistakable lit from within glow. It is deeply moisturizing- yet it leaves behind no oily residue-- it really is mattifying! You really don't have to wait for it to dry down before applying sunscreen and finishing products. This is a remarkable product.
8) Alba Botanica Natural Hawaiian Shampoo (Colorific Plumeria): This is such a refreshing shampoo-- it has the intoxicating scent of plumeria, and it is very moisturizing on my naturally curly hair. I have always loved and trusted Alba products, but this one makes me feel like I am in Hawaii when I use it!

9) Alba Botanica Natural Hawaiian Conditioner (Colorific Plumeria): This is such a lovely and moisturizing conditioner. As anyone with curly hair knows-- getting a brush or comb through freshly washed hair presents many challenges. It is therefore essential to use a conditioner that leaves behind enough slip to avoid any damage to the hair- which this one does quite well for me. The smell is lovely, but it does fade so as not to interfere or compete with any fragrances that you may be wearing.

10) Shave with Benefits Luxurious Botanical Shaving Foam (reviewed here): This is such a lovely product! It not only provides you with a very close shave, but it moisturizes and conditions the skin while doing so. I love the texture- it is a light and creamy foam, but not as dense as traditional shaving creams or foams.

11) Kai Body Glow (reviewed here): M A D  L O V E! I'm crazy about every Kai product that I have used. Body Glow is especially lovely during this hot weather because it is neither heavy, nor overpowering. This is a gorgeous and moisturizing dry oil spray mist that not only deeply hydrates the skin, but it also leaves behind a radiant glow. That is uses the intoxicating Kai signature scent is enough to make me do a happy dance. If you love "gardenia wrapped in white exotics" then welcome to happy!

12) Cleopatra's Choice 100% Organic Argan Oil (reviewed here): This is a really fantastic Argan oil, and it sinks into the skin quickly and does not have a pungent odor. I have been using it from head to toe, and it leaves my skin unbelievably moisturized. This is a really good product for nourishing curly hair, and taming the frizzies and fly-aways without weighing down the hair.

13) Kai Deodorant (reviewed here): Best deodorant I have ever used, period. It smells divine, and has never irritated my sensitive under arm area.
Right now,  judging by this stash (which is proof positive of my unmitigated makeup insanity), my focus is on natural skin, pink-neutral lips, very little eye makeup, and a natural flush on the cheeks.

14) NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 in Alaska (reviewed here): This feels so good on my skin. It's light and breathable with light to medium buildable coverage. I love it during the summer months.

15) Chanel Glossimer in Star (LE) from the Soho Collection: I have loved Chanel Glossimers for years and years, but this is probably my all-time favorite. So much so,  that I bought two or three back-up tubes because I knew I would use them. I wish that Chanel would repromote this, or better yet make Star part of the permanent collection. It is icy cool pink perfection incarnate!

16) Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Troublant (review forthcoming): In the meantime, my friend, Becca has done one seriously impressive review here. This is an unbelievably gorgeous pinkish nudish color with multicolor pearl. It is almost like Chanel's Giggle Glossimer amped up with light shimmer. This is GORGEOUS, but sadly it is limited edition.

17) LORAC Lips With Benefits in Nick (reviewed here): I love the formula and love the pink sparkle. LORAC, in general, is an amazing line!

18) Rouge Bunny Rouge Eye Khol in Vera (reviewed here): Rouge Bunny Rouge + Vera Eye Kohl= Royal Purple Perfection. Enough said.

19) MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Eyes Mat Black 0L Eye Liner: Once it sets it won't budge- making it perfect for warm weather, swimming, and any other challenges to makeup longevity.

20) MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Cream #02 (reviewed here): Amazing budge-proof cream shadows! Aqua Cream #02 is described as a silver gray shimmer, but it's taupe to me! This is my favorite out all of their glorious shades.

21) Rouge Bunny Rouge Sweet Excesses Glassy Gloss in Fleur Parfait (reviewed here): I love the formula, I love the color, and I love the company. This is one of my all-time favorite lip gloss formulas, and Fleur Parfait is a stunning example of the perfect MLBB pink.

22) Rouge Bunny Rouge Sweet Excesses Glassy Gloss in Cherry Clafoutis (reviewed here): This is the gloss version of RBR's Scrumptiously Devious Lipstick. It is a gorgeous sheer blue-based pink filled with magical golden opalescence, and you should see how it twinkles in the sun.

23) Chantecaille Brilliant Gloss- in Love (reviewed here): Another favorite gloss- it is a magical light pink with the perfect amount of shimmer. While the color is gorgeous- it is really the stellar formula that will have this at the top of my repurchase list. I find myself reaching for this all of the time, and I have piles and piles of lip glosses- so that is saying something.

24) Milani Illuminating Face Powder 03 Beauty's Touch (reviewed here): My newest highlighter find. I had been looking at these for some time, but I finally took the plunge because I had two coupons that made the price so attractive that I could no longer resist this charming product. I'm so glad that I got it-- it is very finely milled and the quality is outstanding! A+

25) Youngblood Crushed Mineral Blush in Sherbet (reviewed here): This is a gorgeous peachy pink blush that has forever charmed its way into my "use all of the time" stash. Great company, great ethics, great ingredients, and great products.

26) Le Métier de Beauté Color Core Moisture Lipstick in Palm Springs (reviewed here): This gives the perfect pink pout, but with some dimension. It has is a cool blue-based pink juxtaposed to warmer pearl, and if that is not enough it is moisturizing. It gives my lips an indescribably full, moist pout.

27) Rouge Bunny Rouge Hues of Enchantment Colour Burst Lipstick in Nothing Unknown (reviewed here): One of the best cool leaning nudes I have ever seen.

28) Rouge Bunny Rouge Dazzling Sip Shimmering Luxe Balm in Sip of Pink (review forthcoming): Pure unadulterated gorgeousness! It's a lip balm, but imparts the perfect amount of sparkle that suggests that it is a lip gloss. There is the faintest hint of pink, and it has an addictive an intoxicating smell of warmed vanilla. A M A Z I N G!

29) Le Métier de Beauté Créme Fresh Tints for Lip & Cheek in Poppy (reviewed here): Why did it take me so long to try LMdB Créme Fresh Tints for Lip & Cheek?? They are outstanding multipurpose products in gorgeous infinitely wearable colors. Poppy is a neutral leaning bright pink with refined pearl luminescence, and it is a real stunner on the lips and cheeks.

30) Le Métier de Beauté Créme Fresh Tints for Lip & Cheek in Mystique (reviewed here): Mystique is a light cool leaning pink with a touch of lavender. It is simply stunning.

31) Le Métier de Beauté Tickled Pink Lip Créme in Mums the Word (reviewed here): This formula is remarkable- it is in the lipstick lip gloss hybrid family, and offers opaque buildable coverage. It can be sheered out- so don't let the vibrancy of this bright cool hot pink/fuchsia scare you. While it is a gorgeous stand alone shade it is pure unmitigated magic when mixed with it's friend Two Lips!

32) Le Métier de Beauté Tickled Pink Lip Créme in Two Lips (reviewed here): Two Lips is stand- alone peach perfection, but mixed with Mums the Word it is transported to the nether regions of peachy pink heaven. It doesn't get any better than this!

33) Rouge Bunny Rouge Forever Yours...Long-lasting Lip Pencil in Roald (review forthcoming): This is a blue-based muted rosy pink color that is gorgeous. Like Vasco, Roald has a creamy dreamy formula that is so comfortable on the lips-- it never pulls or tugs, and it stays put for hours.

34) Rouge Bunny Rouge Forever Yours...Long-lasting Lip Pencil in Vasco (reviewed here): This is a gorgeous light pink with a creamy dreamy formula.

35) Chanel Le Crayon Lèvres in Beige: This is the perfect light neutral shade for making your nude lip last for hours and hours.
