One of the great secrets to this luxurious skincare line can be found in the use of Pili and Moringa Oils that function as the "cornerstone of select My Prime Anti-Aging Formulas. Rich in antioxidants and omega fatty acids, these extraordinary botanical oils have historically been used by Filipino women to achieve healthy, ageless skin." To read more about Pili and Moringa oils click here.

Pili Oil is "indigenous to the fertile Bicol region of the Philippines, the Canarium Ovatum (“Pili”) tree is the source of a superior restorative oil that contains high concentrations of omega fatty acids and Vitamins A and E. These age-defying ingredients allow Pili oil to rejuvenate the skin by infusing it with deep hydration while also calming redness and inflammation. Moreover, compared to olive oil, Pili oil contains more beta-carotene (a known Vitamin A source), which encourages cell renewal and improves the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Pili oil is gentle enough for all skin types, and absorbs easily into the skin to impart a light, youthful glow. To ensure the purity of the oil, local Filipino farmers grow the Pili tree without fertilizers or pesticides. The farmers then manually extract the oil from the pulp of the Pili fruit without using any additives." (source)
Moringa Oil is "widely cultivated in the Philippines, the Moringa Oleifera tree is considered one of the most nutritious plants on the planet. Living up to its reputation as a “miracle tree,” the Moringa tree is packed with omega fatty acids and a multitude of antioxidants including Vitamins A, C, and E. Nutritionally, it contains more Vitamin A than carrots, more Vitamin C than oranges, more potassium than bananas, and more calcium and protein than milk. Moringa oil is extracted from the seeds of the tree using environmentally sustainable practices. Supercharged with anti-aging benefits, this lightweight oil penetrates deep into the skin to enhance proper cell growth, replenish hydration, and bolster the skin’s natural defense against environmental attack. In addition, its high concentration of Vitamin C makes Moringa oil a natural skin brightener that helps even skin tone. Moringa oil is suitable for all skin types." (source)

My Skin Recovery Formula is a lightweight, skin-brightening treatment that targets skin damage while simultaneously imparting a healthy dewy glow.
Among the Chief benefits:
  • Brightens and evens skin tone for a radiant look
  • Promotes skin firmness and resilience
  • Diminishes the appearance of age spots, acne marks, and wrinkles
  • Soothes redness and inflammation
Here's what I found after using it daily for over a month: Initially I only used Skin Recovery Formula at night, but when I saw how wonderful my skin looked at felt, I decided to use it both night and day. It really does brighten the skin- my skin has an unmistakable healthy radiant glow or luminosity to it- as though lit from within.  There is an evenness of texture and tone to my skin that negates the necessity to wear a foundation. While I have no age spots or acne marks, I do have a few areas with sun damage, that have markedly diminished. I also don't have wrinkles to combat so much as expression lines, and their depth has undoubtedly been lessened. While I do not tend to have much redness, as a general rule, I did have the opportunity to put My's claims to the test about soothing redness and inflammation.  At my recent yearly physical I had my doctor freeze off a mole on my forehead which left an inflamed red mess in its wake, as it began to heal it left behind tender pink skin that I didn't want to have scar or become hyperpigmented. Therefore, in addition to slathering on copious amounts of sunscreen, I applied Skin Recovery Formula 2-3/x a day, and now miraculously that area is nearly the color of the surrounding tissue.

This is a powerhouse peptide rich anti-aging serum that boosts microcirculation for a luminous effect. It effectively combats redness, age and sun spots, acne scars, and wrinkles, and gives skin a firm and even appearance. It feels wonderfully nourishing on the skin, and it sinks in very quickly. I really love the way that my skin looks and feels when I use this product, and I really could see the difference when I went from using it once a day to using it twice a day. The real shock was how quickly it healed the reddened inflamed tissue from my mole removal. It astounds me how vastly improved skincare products are as a result of all of the advanced technologies employed in their making, and My is certainly a prime example of just that. If you are looking for results, look no further.

How to use: After cleansing each morning and night, apply to face and neck. Gently massage into skin.  Follow with your moisturizer, but for optimal results use MY Prime Multi-Purpose Mattifying Moisturizer.
Key Sciences:
  • ALPAFLOR® GIGAWHITE™: A gentle, preservative-free botanical complex that noticeably improves skin tone, and diminishes the appearance of skin discoloration associated with sun damage and acne marks.
  • SYN-®COLL: An anti-aging peptide that helps boost natural collagen production, promotes skin firmness and resilience, and minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • TIMECODE™: A complexion enhancer that restores luminosity by calming inflammation, reducing redness, and improving microcirculation.
  • Pili + Moringa Oils: Soothing botanicals that smooth, hydrate, and revive dull-looking skin with omega fatty acids and Vitamins A, C and E.
Research Results:
In an independent, eight-week clinical study:
  • 70% of subjects showed an increase in skin firmness and tautness in the jowl area.
  • 67% of subjects showed an improvement in skin tone radiance.
  • 60% of subjects showed a reduction in mottled hyperpigmentation.
  • 60% of subjects showed a reduction in wrinkles in the forehead area.
  • 80% of subjects agreed that this product improved skin tone.
  • 80% of subjects agreed that this product improved the overall appearance of skin.

My's founder and CEO, Tessa Yutadco, has implemented social responsibility initiatives that were specifically designed to improve the lives of the Filipino women and men who harvest and extract the Pili and Moringa oils used in My products (read more here). It is also important to note that the Pili and Moringa oils are sustainably harvested, and are grown without fertilizers or pesticides. Unlike so many skincare companies, My is uncompromising in the commitment to quality ingredients, healthy products, social responsibility, and transparency in everything they do. It is for these reasons, coupled with the sheer quality of the products, that I am so excited to have found My! Did I mention that My is CRUELTY FREE?!

Tessa takes her social responsibility initiatives very seriously, and as proof of this she has announced the following new partnership: August 8, 2012 through September 8, 2012 My will be donating 50% of the proceeds from ALL My purchases to Best Buddies International! My is one of the few companies out there that is ideologically in tune with the big picture-- not just in terms of providing the highest quality skincare, but also in terms of an innate awareness and respect of the needs of the world around us. Tessa really believes in both nurturing the skin, but more importantly in nurturing the planet and those who call it home. I absolutely believe in My, and in Tessa.

Overall assessment: Phenomenal product. Yet again, Tessa has hit it out of the park. You need My in your life-- I know I do! This is worth every last penny!

    1. Sorry :) My is one of the greatest discoveries that I have made in many many many years! Not only are the products categorically outstanding, but this is an uncompromisingly ethical company with social responsibility initiatives at the very core of its belief system. Tessa, the My founder, has a great vision-- and is tremendously generous. For such a young company to give away 50% of the proceeds from the sale of her products to Best Buddies International through September 8th-- is unprecedented. This is one company that I believe in hook, line and sinker!! Please let me know if you get anything and what you think of the products!! I hope that you love them as much as I do!! :D

  3. Yay--glad to hear you love this one! I have it but have yet to test since my skin is breaking out at the moment and I really want a clean canvas before I start. I have felt the texture though and it's insanely light and refreshing and feels so lovely on the skin!

  5. Hi I am looking for a nice serum, possibly anti aging focused as I'm now in my late 20's. Would you recommend this one or another? Would also love a recommendation for a nice mask! I'm already thinking of investing in the Rodin oil and the Futurederm Time Release!

    Thanks

    1. Hi Aisling,

Sorry for the slow response-- we had a little vet emergency--so I have been dealing with that. It does look as though everything is okay though!!

Tell me a little more about what your needs and wants are. What are you looking for in a serum specifically? What, if any, problems are you having wit your skin? Or are you trying to take care of your skin now to prevent things like sun damage etc. What type of skin to you have-- not just oily, dry, but also is it sensitive etc. I am a huge proponent of serums, and oil base serums. I am also a huge fan of retinol based products.

This serum is fantastic, as is the the FutureDerm Time Release Retinol. I think that you already know that I am MADLY in love with Rodin Olio Lusso!!!

Give me a little bit more information about what you are looking for and I will try to give you some good choices of products to consider!

:D Talk to you soon! Helen

    2. Hi Helen

I totally understand, I've two big dogs which certainly take up my time!

I've got combination skin and am probably looking for anti ageing and something hydrating, always told my skin is dehydrated! I'm generally not too sensitive, have used plenty of glycolic products before and my skin handles them well. I've noticed more blackheads which is bugging me! My skin just looks a bit dull at the moment! If you could also recommended a good exfoliator!

Thanks so much for your time :-)

    3. Hi Aisling!

I have combination skin as well, and sometimes our skin type can be a touch tricky to treat properly. I have found that for me it is always a balance of providing moisture, anti-aging benefits, and proper exfoliation. It sounds to me as though your skin has the same needs as mine. The key is not to over-process the skin which can cause an over production of oil and sebum. I also think that because we try to treat oil production and blackheads/whiteheads that we can end up robbing the skin of much-needed moisture-- causing it to appear dehydrated.

To treat your blackheads you would likely benefit from some kind of weekly exfoliation. One of my VERY favorites is Kate Somerville Exfolikate (it comes in a gentle version and a regular version)- it is unique because not only is it a physical exfoliant (with exfoliating granules), but it is also an Enzyme mask- that eats away at dead skin cells. I would recommend asking for samples of the regular and gentle versions at Sephora or Nordstrom to see which you prefer (and you might not like either). It is an expensive product- so sampling it first is a good idea. The regular is VERY potent and can only be left on for an extremely short amount of time, and many people prefer the Gentle version because it is so much more, well, gentle!

      http://www.lolassecretbeautyblog.com/2011/12/kate-somerville-exfolikate-intensive.html

To maintain a good moisture mantle- I find oil based serums to offer an excellent delivery system. Some offer lots of anti-aging benefits and others deliver more moisture than anything else. My favorite is Rodin Olio Lusso- it is very moisturizing and healing, and it gives skin an unbelievably healthy glow from within. Some aren't fond of the jasmine scent, but I love it (and the scent does subside). If at all possible I would try to get a sample to see if you like it and to see whether it works well for your skin. I remain devoted to this oil because it is the only oil that healed my two little dry patches. If you are looking for an oil that is a bit more of an anti-aging serum- then the one that I really love is The Organic Pharmacy The Anti-Oxidant Face Firming Serum (I featured it my my Desert Island post, but haven't reviewed it yet-- see link below). It is a wonderful product and it smells like oranges-- again- I would try to get a sample before splurging.

      http://www.lolassecretbeautyblog.com/2013/03/the-beauty-spotlight-team-sends-helen.html

I am a huge proponent of Retinol based products at night (and then a high SPF sunscreen during the days because retinols produce photosensitivity and require SPF protection). I really like the FutureDerm Time Release Retinol, and I found it to be quite gentle on my skin-- while giving me all the benefits of retinoid products. Of course not everyone has success with retinol based products, but they offer really amazing anti-aging benefits if your skin tolerates retinol based products.

      http://www.lolassecretbeautyblog.com/2013/03/the-beauty-spotlight-team-sends-helen.html

I would recommend adding in one new product at a time to see how your skin reacts, and also so that you can really see the benefits. If you add too many things at once you can't know which products are responsible for skin reactions (whether good or bad).

I hope that this helps. Keep me posted, and ask as many questions as you can think of- and I will do my best to answer them- or point you in the right direction.
      :D Helen

    5. Absolutely my pleasure, Aisling! I can't wait to hear what you think. If you get samples of the Exfolikate-- make sure not to leave the regular version on for long at all- they recommend leaving it on for 20-30 seconds, but it is so potent and powerful that I would probably leave it on even less time-- at least until you know how your skin reacts. I really love this stuff, but I definitely don't leave it on for very long.

      Have a lovely weekend!!!! Helen

  6. Hi Helen I was just wondering if you had a reaction at all to Exfolikate? I've got small bumps on my face after using it twice. I used the normal one which was only slightly tingly on my face. I haven't used anything else new on my face yet so it must be that!

    Thanks
    Aisling

    1. Hi Aisling,

I didn't have a reaction to the regular one, but it is way too strong for many people. It sounds as though the regular one is either way too strong for your skin or that you have an allergic reaction to one/some of the ingredients. Did you leave it on longer than about 20 seconds? I would definitely say that one is not for you. I would just toss the rest of the packet. You might prefer the Gentle version. Then again, you might feel compelled to avoid it if you suspect that it may have been an ingredient reaction.

I can tell you that I have to be very careful not to leave Exfolikate on my skin for very long because it is way to strong and active to exceed the recommended time. The regular version DEFINITELY is not for everyone!

I would definitely give your skin a break from exfoliants to let those bumps go away. It definitely seems as though you need something more gentle. Keep me posted! <3

  7. Hi Helen

So I bought Rodin Olio Lusso and I love it, scary price tag though! I recently had a facial with Sunday Riley products as they have just been introduced here in Australia and I was wondering if you still use them? I want a nice moisturiser and can't decide between Bionic or Skin Adrenaline, leaning towards Skin Adrenaline purely because its cheaper! What do you think of these products or can you recommend cheaper alternatives?

    Thanks :-)

    1. Hi Aisling!!! I am so thrilled that you love Rodin Olio Lusso!! Isn't it amazing?! I know- the price is high- which is the only thing that I don't love, but the product works so well for me that i am willing to spend the money!

How did you like your facial? How did your skin look and feel? Bionic is definitely richer than Skin Adrenaline. I still have a few SR products, but some of the last products that I purchased caused me to break out. I used up my last bottle of Bionic and still have part of a bottle of Skin Adrenaline, but doubt that I will repurchase it because I find myself reaching for other products more these days. I have been using the Sponge Krema Triantafillo (Rose and Sage Cream- it's not too expensive) and The Organic Pharmacy Rose Plus Marine Complex (this one is pretty expensive) more these days. I don't know if either of these lines is available in Australia, but both are amazing. Between Bionic and Skin Adrenaline I tend to prefer Skin Adrenaline, but I imagine that it is quite expensive in Australia so I would only spend the money if it works very well for you. I would ask for some sample packets before buying the full size bottle to make sure that it works well enough on you to justify the expense. As you know, I always try to get samples first because one never knows how it will work until you try it- and testing it out first is a risk-free way to find out. Just think if you had purchased that tube of Exfolikate-- and then had that reaction! Let me know specifically what you want in a moisturizer and I will see if I can come up with some less expensive alternatives. :-)

    1. Hi Aisling!!

I totally forgot to mention two other products that I have been reaching for a great deal lately-- both have REALLY impressed me!

The first one is quite affordable, and of amazing quality. It's the Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Sensitive Skin Cream. I don't have wrinkles or dry skin, but it have done wonders for my combination skin and has softened fine lines while providing great hydration. I reviewed it here (it is one of my greatest recent skincare surprises):

      http://www.lolassecretbeautyblog.com/2013/04/eucerin-lotions-anti-aging-creams-and.html

The other is the B. Kamins Nia-Stem Moisture Kx. I have been THOROUGHLY impressed by B. Kamins- they make amazing quality products, and this moisturizer is a favorite.

  10. I love your blog about My Prime skincare. Can you advise me as to how to use the My prime skincare. I have combination skin, and I look for anti-aging products that are more natural verses chemical. If you can recommend a skincare line that is more natural than chemical, I would be greatly appreciated. Also if you can go into detail what you do in the morning and night routine of the skincare products.

    1. Hi there! Thank you! My Prime is a really really lovely skincare line! If you haven't yet seen my big master post with links to all of the in-depth individual My Prime reviews- then take a look here-- there is SO much information that it will take you quite a while to get through all of it.

      http://www.lolassecretbeautyblog.com/2012/07/my-skincare-new-line-that-i-am-so.html

If your skin tends to be more on the oily end of the combination skin spectrum- then you might really benefit from the My Multi-Purpose Mattifying Moisturizer-- it really helps to balance the skin while keeping it beautifully hydrated and moisturized.

I am completely in agreement-- I have also been making an effort to use more products with fewer chemicals. One of my most reached for lines these days is The Organic Pharmacy-- they offer lots of different high quality natural products. Since I am a HUGE fan of face oil serums I find that I use their Antioxidant Face Firming Serum at least once a day. I also use their Rose Plus Marine Collagen Complex every single day without fail.

If you scan through my search function below- you can see what I think about their AMAZING products:

      http://www.lolassecretbeautyblog.com/search?q=The+Organic+Pharmacy

I have a really really large stash of skincare products- and as a result I do not use the same products night and day each day. Additionally, I am always testing out new products for review-- which means that I don't have particularly "normal" skincare using habits.

I do, however, have a few constants in my daily routine- though the products used often change:

      AM:
      1) Use my Clarisonic in the shower with whichever cleanser I feel like using that day

      2) Apply one of my favorite face oil serums (often in conjunction with other serums (I most often use 2 additional The Organic Pharmacy serums)

      3) Use an eye cream, again depending on which one is striking my fancy that day.

      4) If needed, add face lotion or cream. Sometimes my face oil is all the moisture that I need for my combination skin.

      5) Apply my sunscreen liberally

      6) Apply my tinted moisturizer or foundation and then my makeup.

      PM:

      1) I pre-cleanse to remove my makeup by either using the Tatcha One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil, or a cleansing water (my favorite is by Koh Gen Do)

      2) Use my cleanser of choice

      3) Use any serums that I feel that I need in conjunction with my face oil

      4) use an eye cream

      5) If needed add a lotion or cream on top of the oil once it has soaked into my skin

When needed I do exfoliate- either with a manual exfoliating scrub, or by using a nighttime retinol based product. Sometimes I use a Lactic Acid based exfoliating product instead. I do also use masks when needed. My approach to skincare is one in which I have learned to pay attention to the needs of my skin at any given moment-- so I do not strictly adhere to a set routine..

I hope that this is helpful. If you want more product specific information- let me know a little more about what you like and what you are looking to achieve, and what types of products resonate with you (and work for your skin). :-)

  11. Thanks a lot for the detail of your am and pm routine. I am asian. I am 40 years old. I have combination skin. I have use Shiseido and La Mer in the past. As I get older I would like to have more natural products verses chemical one. Do you have any suggestions of your 3 top face oil; 3 top face serum; 3 tops day moisturizer and 3 top night moisturizer that are anti aging and natural. I would be really grateful for your help.

    1. Those are super tough questions!! At this moment here are my favorite 3 oils: 1) The Organic Pharmacy Antioxidant Face Serum (it really fits into the oil and serum category) 2) Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Face Oil 3) Aftelier Rose Face Elixir. However, I love many other oils-- these just happen to be the ones that I am reaching for the most these days.I also use Sponge Ladi Avokanto oil all of the time and love it

My top three serums right now are the three The Organic Pharmacy Serums (The Firming Face Serum, The Rose Plus Marine Collagen Complex and their Antioxidant Face Gel).

Most of my moisturizers do not distinguish between day and night. The only specifically nighttime moisturizer that I am using with any regularity these days is the Sponge Krema Niktas (Anti-aging nighttime cream). The others that I am reaching for a lot these days: Suki Facial Lift Ultimate Firming Cream:

      http://www.lolassecretbeautyblog.com/2012/06/suki-facial-lift-ultimate-firming-cream.html

And I also reach for two other Sponge creams regularly: I love their Krema Imeras (Anti-aging day cream) and their Krema Triantafillo (Rose and Sage Cream)

      http://www.lolassecretbeautyblog.com/2013/06/sponge-krema-triantafillo-rose-sage.html

There are some chemicals in some of the Sponge products, but I still love them. The Suki cream has no chemicals in it.

These are the things that work well for my combination skin, and I love them! That said, your results may vary and you may not feel as passionately about them as I do. I hope that this is helpful!! Have a lovely weekend! :-)

    1. HI there!

Suki and My Prime both offer fantastic products. The lines are very different though and hard to compare. Both lines definitely focus on healthy ingredients and a healthy lifestyle. I think that the products and the lines in general ultimately should be chosen based upon personal preference. I love and use both lines. I would suggest trying to get samples to see what you think of each line. :-)
