Sunia K. Sabrah 100% Pure and Organic Prickly Pear Seed Oil is one of my latest luxury face oil discoveries, and the story behind the brand is one of inspiring empowerment. Sunia K., the woman behind the eponymously named skincare brand, is a busy working woman, who sought to prevent flare-ups of her psoriasis with effective and natural products that were simple to use. She began this journey in 2007, while living in Montreal, and during one of the coldest winters she experienced her worst case of psoriasis. Having tried traditional medications and lots of expensive beauty products to seek relief, none of which helped reduce the inflammation or offered her relief, Sunia decided to change her lifestyle (diet, exercise, clothing and household and beauty products) in an effort to reduce her inflammation and heal her psoriasis. Eventually her research led her to try the anti-oxidant-rich, lightweight and fast-absorbing Prickly Pear Seed Oil in order to stay hydrated and to help heal her skin, and soon thereafter Sunia K skincare was born.
Sunia K. Sabrah Oil Pure Prickly Pear Seed Oil is an ultra-lightweight single ingredient antioxidant-rich beauty oil that sinks into the skin effortlessly, and remarkably fast, without leaving behind a greasy residue. It deeply moisturizes the skin, leaves it silky smooth, and it helps to plump fine lines. Additionally, this formula is rich in fatty acids, Omegas 6 and 9, and Vitamins E and K. It deeply nourishes the skin, helps to fade hyperpigmentation and dark circles and helps to reduce inflammation, redness and soothe irritation and relieves itching. Furthermore, it helps to regulate sebum production and is suitable for most types of skin including very sensitive skin types. Skin is left healthy, balanced and luminous. It should be noted that it neither contains essential oils, nor many hidden artificial fragrances, but instead its light and rather nutty aroma is simply the 100% Opuntia Ficus Indica Oil (Prickly Pear) itself. This oil is very concentrated– therefore a few drops is all that you need for your face, neck and décolleté. When applied to warm, damp and freshly cleansed skin even less oil can be used. Therefore, while expensive, this 1.7 oz. bottle should last a very long time.
Product Claims:
Hydrates, moisturizes, softens and plumps dry & mature skin
Prevents and reduces wrinkles, dark spots and sun damage
Brightens under-eye circles
Calms overactive sebum glands to reduce acne
Soothes the itch and irritation of eczema, psoriasis and rosacea
Reduces redness and hypersensitivity
Instantly helps skin look and feel fresh, radiant and nourished
According to Sunia K.,
Our light-weight prickly pear seed oil is sustainably sourced from our eco-certified organic grower in Zelfène, Tunisia, known as the ideal climate to grow prickly pears. Sabrah Oil absorbs quickly into your skin, leaving no greasy residue, yet packs so many nutrients into each drop that some skin care experts are calling it ‘Liquid Gold’. Sabrah Oil is exceptionally high in Vitamins E and K, essential fatty acids, and powerful antioxidants called betalains that nourish, soothe and balance all skin types, especially dry, mature skin and hypersensitive skin. Tunisians love to eat the antioxidant-rich prickly pear fruit to stay healthy and hydrated during the summer. Just as the cactus has evolved to protect itself from dryness and heat, the oil from its seeds offers a similar defense, resulting in skin, hair and nails that are smooth and moisturized. ...Sabrah oil is composed of very small molecules which allows it to penetrate deeply into your skin. It’s specific and rare composition make it unique. You do not need much to get the benefits. Use one to three drops with every facial application and your bottle of 50 ml can last up to 6 months.
You Should Also Know:
All Sunia K. cosmetic oils are 100% pure and natural, sustainably sourced and packaged, and fairly produced. We have never and will never test products on animals.
Because prickly pear seeds are only 5% oil, it takes one ton of fruit and ten full days of labor to carefully harvest and slowly cold-press one liter of pure oil— making it the most costly skincare oil to produce but one that contains the most concentrated nutrients for your skin. Only 2-3 drops are needed for each use.
Your purchase helps to pay a fair salary to women and men who live in an area of Tunisia with over 40% unemployment, reducing poverty, empowering women, and strengthening community.
Unlike the strong-smelling cheaper brands that are often macerated with cactus flowers or fruits or extracted with chemicals to save costs, Sabrah Oil is 100% pure cold-pressed seed oil. Its light, nutty scent may remind you of sun and fresh-cut hay.
Ingredients: 100% Opuntia Ficus Indica Oil. *Certified Organic, First Cold-Pressed on Demand for Sunia K.
Overall Assessment: I am very impressed by Sunia K. Sabrah 100% Pure and Organic Prickly Pear Seed Oil, and can hardly wait to try their Rose Water La Vie En Rose 100% Pure and Organic to use in conjunction with this lovely beauty oil.
I am nothing short of obsessed with Jane Iredale, the exquisite quality of their cruelty-free products coupled with their healthy ingredients makes this a particularly wonderful brand to use. Jane Iredale Naturally Glam Eye Shadow Kit ($59.00 for .34 oz. from Jane Iredale, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Skin Store, Citrine Natural Beauty Bar and StrawberryNet): I have to state for the record that the second that I touched this palette, I was shocked by the extent to which I reveled it its exceptional quality. Their luxe textures coupled with their extraordinary pigmentation has made this beautiful palette one of my favorites to use. Boasting buildable coverage, these shadows glide across the skin effortlessly, deposit color evenly and are very long-lasting. Jane Iredale PureMoist Lipstick in Susan, Lisa and Karen ($25.00 for .1 oz. from Jane Iredale, Neiman Marcus, Skin Store, Citrine Natural Beauty Bar, Soft Surroundings, Beauty Expert, Adore Beauty and StrawberryNet): The formula is smooth, creamy and it glides across the lips effortlessly while depositing color evenly. I have two colors, Abigail and Cindy, and both have the perfect amount of cushion for comfortable wear. I get about 3-4 hours of wear before needing to apply, and while there is some transfer to the glass or mug when I drink, it is minimal. They have the emollience of a tinted lip balm, but the staying power of a lipstick. Furthermore, neither shade migrates, nor do they settle into lip lines. They have a wonderful fruity smell and light taste, but I find that it very quickly.
Shades Shown:
Susan is described as a soft cool pink.
Lisa is described as a creamy rose beige.
Karen is described as a creamy matte fig red, but I find it to have less of a matte finish and more of a low-sheen finish instead.

It has a lovely light citrus aroma that is uplifting and pleasant, but it is neither cloying, nor long-lasting.

African Botanics Nutritive Molecule Serum is an antioxidant-rich magical potion that combines the highest quality natural ingredients with advanced biotechnology in order to protect the skin against free-radical damage, to improve the texture of the skin, to lighten dark spots, to help prevent the onset of environmentally induced wrinkles and sun damage, and to brighten the complexion.
Unlike the many Vitamin C-based serums that have flooded the market in the last few years, African Botanics Nutritive Molecule Serum is a brilliantly conceived blend of three different highly stable, and oil soluble, forms of Vitamin C: Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate and Ascorbyl Methylsilanol Pectinate. Its oil solubility is an imperative part of its potent delivery system that enables it to work in conjunction with the Baobab, Marula, Kalahari Melon, Wheat Germ, Jojoba and Sunflower Seed oils.
The lightweight texture is fast absorbing, it leaves behind no oily residue, it leaves skin immediately brightened and hydrated, and it has a light aroma from which one can detect a hint of the Baobab and Marula oils.
That this is the perfect serum to transition into a fall skincare routine, to mitigate the effects that the summer may have imposed upon the skin, is a rather obvious choice.
According to African Botanics,
An extremely rejuvenating serum that incorporates a superior complex of antioxidants and advanced biotechnology to supplement and protect skin against the main types of free radicals: oxygen, carbon and nitrogen while improving skin’s texture, brightening and providing a strong protective barrier against pollution and cellular damage. Infuses skin with 3 types of Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Ferulic Acid, Tannic Acid, Niacinamide, Superoxide Dismutase, Resveratrol, Green Coffee and Yeast to accelerate antioxidant activity. These potent antioxidants help prevent wrinkles, sun damage and fade dark spots. This lightweight serum is enriched with botanical peptides and moisture barrier enhancers. It replenishes and retains an abundance of moisture on multiple levels while delivering advanced antioxidants with anti-inflammatory molecules to protect the skin from damage due to age, urban pollution, UV exposure, stress and dryness.
Key Ingredients and Their Attributes: Advanced Antioxidant Content Helps Shield the Complexion: Infuses skin with 3 types of Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Ferulic Acid, Tannic Acid (naturally occurring plant polyphenol), Niacinamide, Superoxide Dismutase, Resveratrol, Green Coffee and Yeast to accelerate antioxidant activity. These potent antioxidants help prevent wrinkles, sun damage and fade dark spots.
3 Types Of Highly Stable & Oil-Soluble Forms of Vitamin C: Nutritive Molecule Serum is infused with highly stable forms of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant, helps fade discoloration, encourages collagen production, protects against free radical damage and helps diminish the appearance of wrinkles.
• Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate ( THD Ascorbate) - most stable and non-acidic form of Vitamin C. This oil-soluble form of Vitamin C can penetrate the lipid bilayer of the skin. The problem with most topical forms of vitamin C is they’re water soluble and can’t make it through the lipid-rich skin barrier to reach the dermis of skin where they could have maximal benefits. THD Ascorbate is able to successfully penetrate the epidermis and move to the layer underneath called the dermis. It’s in the dermis that collagen, a protein that gives skin its youthful firmness and ability to resist wrinkles, is made. The antioxidant action of THD Ascorbate is 80 times longer than Ascorbic Acid.
• Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate is one of the most stable forms of Vitamin C. Helps protect skin from sun damage and boost UVA protection. E ective in treating acne and lightening the skin. • Ascorbyl Methylsilanol Pectinate is considered stable and won’t lose it’s effectiveness or irritate sensitive skin like other forms can.
High-Performing Molecular Science and Supercharged Skin Nutrition: This potent and lightweight serum is is enriched with botanical peptides and moisture barrier enhancers. It replenishes and retains an abundance of moisture on multiple levels while delivering advanced antioxidants with anti-inflammatory molecules to protect the skin from damage due to age, urban pollution, UV exposure, stress and dryness.
• Boosts cell renewal and collagen production with nutrient-rich Sea Kelp and mineral-rich Marine Green Algae.
• Improves the skin's overall texture and appearance. Relaxes the look of fine lines, providing skin with structure and firmness.
• Provides a lifting e ect with a powerful combination of anti-wrinkle peptides, restructuring oligosaccharides from “Blue Agave” and botanical collagen booster derived from the leaf sap of the South African medical plant “Bulbine Frutescens”* which help further correct skin’s microrelief, tone, plump and smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
• Bulbine Frutescens - Activates the production of high quality collagen, suppresses inflammation, prevents collagen breakdown and inhibits formation of low quality collagen.
• Plumps and deeply penetrates the skin for intense hydration with Sodium Hyaluronate while preventing moisture loss.
• Decreases redness, inflammation and calms the skin with intense doses of anti-inflammatory botanicals - Resurrection Plant, Immortelle, Centella, Arnica, Aloe Ferox, Calendula, Hibiscus and Azelaic acid.
• Our proprietary Distinct African Oil Complex and African Bush and Desert plants help regenerate and replenish the skin with polyphenols, amino acids, omegas, plant ceramides and lipids.
Overall Assessment: As previously noted, this is the perfect serum to transition into a fall skincare routine, to mitigate the effects that the summer may have imposed upon the skin, and it is worth its weight in gold. A+
I am a big fan of Derma-E, and have had nothing but success with their products that I have used over the years. Their products are safe, effective, cruelty-free, easily accessible, and surprisingly affordable. My latest loves from them, the Derma-E Essentials Nourishing Rose Cleansing Oil and Derma-E Essentials Microdermabrasion Scrub, are perfectly paired for soft and smooth skin, and I simply couldn't be happier with them.
Derma-E Essentials Nourishing Rose Cleansing Oil ($15.99-$17.99 for 2 oz. from Derma-E, Ulta, Derma-E Amazon Store, Dermstore and Skin Care RX): First I must preface what's to come by stating that this cleansing oil has the most delectable rose aroma that smells good enough to wear as a perfume– it is utterly glorious, and it transforms the act of cleansing one's skin from the ordinary to the extraordinary. That said, if you either dislike the smell of roses, or avoid aromatic skincare products, then this cleansing oil might not be the best fit for you.
I simply apply a small amount to my dry face and neck, massage it in for a few seconds and then either rinse it off, or remove it with a warm, damp, plush wash cloth. Unlike many of my cleansing oils, this one does not emulsify when it comes into contact with water. What I find remarkable is the extent to which this cleansing oil thoroughly cleans the skin and leaves it incredibly soft, smooth, supple and hydrated.
According to Derma-E,
This essence of rose cleansing oil dissolves away long-lasting makeup and impurities, while nourishing skin with beautifying oils. Argan Oil delivers a concentrated boost of intense antioxidant-rich moisture to lock in essential hydrating for a healthy tone, renewed texture and exceptional suppleness. Jojoba Oil provides moisture to dry skin while helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by promoting healthy cell renewal. Cleansing oils are great for all skin types, especially oily skin because they help to maintain skin's natural balance, removing skin of bad oils and leaving good natural oils. Your skin will be left feeling healthy, nourished and soft.
Directions: Gently massage a dime sized amount onto dry face and neck. Using a warm damp cloth, wipe the oil from your skin. Use in the morning and evening.
Derma-E Essentials Microdermabrasion Scrub ($32.50 for 2 oz. from Derma-E, Ulta, Amazon, Dermstore, Target, Walgreens and Skin Care RX): This exfoliator suspends tiny, and densely populated, exfoliating particles in a creamy base that has enough grit to sweep away dead skin cells effortlessly. The formula is gentle, effective, and non-stripping. Skin is left soft, silky smooth, supple and refreshed. It is a very concentrated formula– therefore this 2 oz. jar should last a very long time unless you are using it on your face and body. It can also be used on your hands, elbows, heels knees– or anywhere you need to exfoliate rough skin. It has a very light aroma with a slight hint of citrus, but it isn't in the least bit cloying or long-lasting.
According to Derma-E,
This fine-textured crystal blend buffs away dullness and smooths the look of fine lines, wrinkles, roughness and acne scars for a healthier, more youthful radiance. This salon-perfect formula uses an exclusive crystal blend including Dead Sea Salt to help buff away dull surface cells, help to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars, and absorb excess skin oils. Enriched with natural astringents Lime and Lemon Peel plus antioxidants Grape seed and Vitamin E, this pro-grade treatment re-textures skin, leaving it soft, smooth and younger-looking. May also be used on your hands, elbows, knees, heels or any part of the body to promote soft, smooth and healthy skin. Ideal if you're looking for immediate results from a salon-perfect treatment in the privacy of your own home. Please note: The crystal blend used in this product is a large molecular structure and is therefore not bio-available to the body, so there is no possibility of absorption through the skin.
Directions: Use twice a week. Apply to wet skin. Gently scrub desired areas in circular motion for up to 1 minute. For sensitive skin, less pressure is recommended. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Pat dry.
Overall Assessment: If you have not yet tried Derma-E products, I highly recommend giving them a try. If you are seeking a high quality and affordable cleansing oil or face scrub, these two are definitely worthy of your attention.

Revitalizing Frankincense and Sandalwood essential oils prevent signs of aging.
Rich Rose essential oil deeply hydrates the skin, leaving it soft and supple.
Geranium essential oil stimulates circulation.
Eucalyptus oil invigorates the under eye area, eliminating puffiness and other signs of fatigue.
According to Uma,
The eyes have long been considered the windows to the soul — and in the ancient Indian world of silken veils and secret glances, they were beacons of depth, knowledge, and strength. However, despite its powerful symbolism, the delicate eye area was often the first to give away signs of stress, age, and environmental damage. To preserve the bright eyes that symbolize a youthful and vivacious spirit, UMA have bottled this time-honored formula of potent botanical extracts and luxurious oils. This blend rejuvenates, refreshes, and indulges — so the eyes can do justice to the mind and soul they embody. This nourishing Ayurvedic formula harnesses the power of Eastern medicine to deliver lasting moisture and rejuvenate the delicate skin around the eyes. Revitalizing frankincense and sandalwood essential oils prevent signs of aging, as rich rose essential oil deeply hydrates the skin, leaving it soft and supple. Geranium essential oil stimulates circulation, while eucalyptus oil invigorates the under eye area, eliminating puffiness and other signs of fatigue. This luxurious blend absorbs rapidly and dramatically reduces signs of environmental stress, for a brighter and more youthful complexion.
Directions: Every morning and evening, dab and gently press in 2-3 drops of the oil using the ring finger on the upper and lower lids. After applying, gently massage the area around the eyes using your fingertip, moving from outer corner to the inner corner of the eye. Use daily, morning and evening. Use can be limited to evenings only if heavy under-eye makeup is required during the day. Avoid getting the oil into the eyes.
Ingredients: Essential Oils Of Rose, Lavender, Chamomile, Eucalyptus, Rosemary Frankincense, Geranium, Sandalwood and Clary Sage In a Base Of Jojoba, Pomegranate, Rosehip, Almond and Grapeseed Oils.
Overall Assessment: I am thoroughly obsessed with Uma Absolute Anti-Aging Eye Oil, and have used it every single day since having received it. It not only delivers on its promises, but this beautiful elixir is such an incredible pleasure to use.
This is undoubtedly the time of year when we tend to spend more time outside, and as a result we often inadvertently overwork and under-protect our skin. Here are a few things that I have been trying to do to take better care of my skin this time of year:
1) Drink plenty of water. I know that this is painfully obvious, but it is something that I often don't do nearly enough of– particularly when I am on the go during the warmer months. Carrying around a good quality water bottle definitely helps remind you to drink water, and for me I either carry my 25 oz. S'well Water Bottle (Reviewed HERE) or my 16 oz. bkr Water Bottle (Reviewed HERE).
2) Be diligent in your use of a high SPF sunscreen (at least an SPF 30- though I use between an SPF 30-SPF 50 most of the time). The key is to remember to reapply sunscreen frequently. I often find myself applying my sunscreen in the morning and then forgetting to do so again throughout the day. That first and only application offers us a false sense of sun protection, but it does not last from morning until night. I have forced myself to carry sunscreen with me to reapply it, but of course this means that I need to reapply some foundation, tinted moisturizer, blush, or whatever I am wearing on my face that day. While this isn't terribly convenient it is necessary, and definitely worth the trouble. It should be applied to all exposed areas, and remember that the harmful rays also penetrate your clothing. Vulnerable areas like the ears, back of the neck, the drivers side of your face and body, the back of the hands, and feet are most often neglected. My all-time favorite sunscreens for my face, neck and décolleté are: TATCHA SILKEN Pore Perfecting Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35 (Reviewed HERE)and Radical Skincare Skin Perfecting Screen SPF 30 (Reviewed HERE).
3) Wear a wide brim hat. I try to do this when I am sitting outside reading- even though I do so under an umbrella.
4) Exfoliate Skinonce a week to remove dead skin and to ensure that your skincare is penetrating deeply enough. Of course this should be avoided if you have sunburned skin, but if your skin isn't traumatized by the elements and can handle a gentle exfoliation then this will go a long way to allowing your products to penetrate more deeply. If you see any suspicious looking moles that have been changing shape and size- then avoid this step and go to your doctor to have it looked at. I can't underscore the importance of this enough- it is very easy for them to identify precancerous and cancerous lesions that you want to deal with immediately. I have had numerous suspicious looking things removed that could eventually become skin cancer.
5) Consider adding in an anti-aging face serum to help fight free radicals. Even if you are young and aren't seeing fine lines pop up yet, the benefits of anti-aging serums do wonders for scavenging free radicals.
6) Add a nourishing face oil into your rotation. They penetrate the skin more deeply and moisturize the skin. They also give the skin a beautiful healthy glow. They can also be used in lieu of heavier skin creams when you want something lighter and faster absorbing. Fear not, they are made for all types of skin from oily to dry and everything in between.
7) Consider adding Hyaluronic-based lotions or gels into your product rotation because it helps to raise the moisture level of the skin. 8) If you have a beloved medium to full coverage foundation that is a perfect match for you, but is too heavy for the season, then blend a small amount with your favorite facial lotion or cream, and you will have the perfect tinted moisturizer. Add a touch of primer and sunscreen, and then you have a BB Cream. When I do this I use the back of my hand to mix it- it's a fast and convenient method. I would still highly recommend using a separate sunscreen to make sure that you have sufficient coverage. Again, you need to reapply sunscreen throughout the day (approximately every 60-80 minutes).
9) Use a good moisture mask at least once a week, or as needed.
10) Don't forget about your lips!!Your pretty pout needs more moisture and protection during the summer. Apply a moisturizing lip balm with an SPF underneath your lip gloss or lipstick to keep them protected. Reapplication throughout the day is the key to remaining protected.
11) Don't forget your hair! Not onlycan the sun wreak havoc on your tresses, but the scalp is subject to sunburn as well. Use a deep conditioner on a weekly basis to keep your hair in good shape, and consider a good spray on SPF that is formulated for the hair.
12) A good pair of sunglasseswon't just protect your eyes, but will also protect the vulnerable under eye area. Repeated sun exposure offers an express invitation for a whole flock of crow's feet to take up permanent residence on your face– so un-invite them!
