Heart of Gold Sea Change Cleansing Balm is an utterly sublime balm as a result of its buttery smooth texture, superb emollience and its indescribably delectable aroma– from which one detects an amalgam of chamomile, fennel and grapefruit. It effectively removes all traces of makeup and dirt while engaging the senses  and nourishing the skin.

According to Boxwalla,

Sea Change Cleansing Balm is a gentle cleansing balm that goes on like butter and rinses off like a cleansing milk. It is composed with sal & shea butter to reestablish the skin's barrier function, moringa & meadow foam seed oils to nourish,  fennel seed, chamomile & grapefruit to calm inflammation and liberate lymphatic stagnation. It not only cleanses and removes makeup (even eye makeup!) but also doubles up as a moisture mask. Ally describes the experience of using Sea Change as ‘drinking chamomile tea in grandma’s china cups’ and we couldn't have said it better.

Directions: Apply a pea-sized amount to dry skin and massage in thoroughly. Wet hands and massage in a bit more, and watch it transform into a clean-rinsing milky liquid. Rinse off with water (in the shower or at the sink) you may use a washcloth, but it's not usually necessary.

PRO TIP: Sea Change is a brilliant hydration mask. Apply as a cleanser & leave on an extra 10-15 minutes, or mix a pea-sized amount with several pumps of toner or hydrolat, apply with a mask brush, and rinse after 15-30 minutes.

Heart of Gold Modern Love Gommage Gel, which has not yet been released, is an incredibly effective exfoliator that smells like a walk through a garden filled with in-bloom jasmine blowing in a warm summer breeze. This exfoliator is profoundly experiential, and it engages the senses in the most delectable way. It is tremendously effective in its ability to gently remove dead skin cells and reveal soft, smooth, hydrated and luminous skin.

Modern Love Gommage ia a unique gommage exfoliator that evokes a jasmine garden. A recipe for the smoothest skin, it contains ingredients like colloidal silver, tulsi, holly and fig extracts, manuka honey, matcha and more.

Directions: Massage a thin layer onto your skin. Continue massaging for a few seconds. Wait for 30 seconds to 1 minute until it is almost dry, yet still sticky to the touch. Massage again, with sweeping movements, to create small 'peels' that include both the gel as well as the dead skin. You can also use it as a hydrating mask- apply a thin layer, leave it on for 5-15 minutes. Wipe off with a damp washcloth.

Heart of Gold Sweetbriar Hydrating Nectar is a magical ultra-lightweight and fast absorbing serum/moisturizer that calms irritated skin, hydrates and nourishes and leaves skin reamarkably soft, smooth, supple and hydrated. Furthermore, it is formulated to increase cell metabolism, stimulate collagen synthesis and support capillaries and lymphatic flow. It has a light and beautiful aroma from which one detects the rosewater and blackcurrant.

Sweetbriar Hydrating Nectar is a calming, hydrating serum/moisturizer hybrid, made in a base of rosewater & aloe juice. Blackcurrant, juneberry & wild rose calm redness, support fragile capillaries & lympatic flow, and target inflammation. Meadowfoam oil nourishes deeply and aloe vera and birch sugar provide sustained hydration. Directions: As a solo moisturizer: mix 1-3 pumps of hydrating nectar with 7 pumps of hydrolat or a few drops of water. apply to clean skin after serum (if you're using it), and prior to SPF (if you're using it).

As a bespoke emulsion: mix 1-2 pumps of Sweetbriar Hydrating Nectar with 1-3 drops of your chosen Oilserum and massage onto clean skin. follow with SPF in the morning (if you're using it).

As a hydrating serum: mix 1 pump of hydrating nectar with 7 pumps of hydrolat or a few drops of water. apply to clean skin prior to oilserum, cream or balm.

As a hydrating & calming mask: apply 5-7 pumps to clean skin. leave on for 10 minutes, or up to 8 hours, then rinse off with cool water or remove with a cool washcloth. follow with your regular routine. Sweetbriar as a mask is so good as a post-sun cooling treatment, or to keep skin hydrated during air travel.

As an eye serum: apply a tiny drop to undereye area after cleansing & toning.

Earthwise Beauty Yasuni Face Balm, which is also formulated for all types of skin, is an emollient and rich balm that is lightweight and very fast absorbing. This magnificent balm features cold-pressed plant butters, such as tucuma, bacuri and cupuaçu, that are responsibly sourced from the Amazon.

One of the remarkable features about this balm is the fact that the açai oil, which gently exfoliates and resurfaces the skin, acts much like retinol, but it does so gently and without redness, irritation or obvious peeling. Furthermore, it includes hydrating, and antioxidant-rich and anti-inflammatory, marula oil that leaves skin soft, smooth, hydrated and luminous.

It has a very interesting aroma that Earthwise Beauty describes as initially lightly fruity, "from the raspberry and cranberry oils, but there is also the grown-up element of freshly picked green coffee beans, and hints of fertile soil from the bacuri and of desert wind from the kokum butter." I would describe it as a berry aroma with a hint of rich earthiness, and it is very pleasant, but it is neither imposing, nor long-lasting.

According to Earthwise Beauty,

As soon as we launched our first face balm, Tigress, requests poured in for more face balms for more skin types, especially a balm without essential oils that would be appropriate for very sensitive skin. Ava had been immersed in a self-imposed plant butter study for two years by then, so creating a second balm was a matter of narrowing down the list of remarkable ingredients we already had on hand, and creating a focus for this new balm. 

Yasuni is based on fruit oils that have particularly high and wide-ranging phytonutrient levels and enzymatic action. This balm works similarly to a retinol on the skin, exfoliating and resurfacing it, but with none of the irritation, redness, or peeling often caused by actual retinol products. It is also an ideal balm for healing acne and reducing blackheads and oil production. 

Yasuni is named after the Yasuni National Park in Ecuador. Not many people outside of environmentalist circles have heard about this rainforest, but it is one of the most precious natural reserves still left on earth. Many scientists believe that is it the most biodiverse place on the planet, with record numbers of animal and plant species per geographic area. The story of the Yasuni rainforest is heartbreaking, because oil drilling has begun there despite the region's ecological importance. There is currently insufficient international support to help the government of Ecuador to maintain this natural reserve intact. We hope to raise awareness about this area so that we are all reminded to make purchasing and lifestyle choices with our planet in mind. 

...The açai oil exfoliates and resurfaces the skin similarly to a retinol product, but being a fruit oil, it doesn't overexfoliate or cause redness or intense peeling. Even more retinol-like action is supplied by the buriti oil, which is exceptionally high in betacarotenes. The enzymes keep sebum oil production in check, so oily skin types become more balanced and are not shiny at the end of the day, and the appearance of blackheads is greatly reduced over time. 

The deep green, whole-fruit açai fruit oil we've sourced is also the acne sufferer's dream come true: this very light, extract-like oil heals and dries up acne due to its enzymes and high vitamin C content, and unlike most other effective acne ingredients, it is nonirritating. The açai oil's anti-acne action is supported by the astringent kokum butter (cold extracted from mangosteen kernels), which helps to minimize pores, speed healing of acne breakouts, and promote skin firmness.

A few plant butters and other oils worth highlighting are the hydrating marula oil and cupuaçu butter, firming tucuma butter, deeply penetrating bacuri butter, sun-damage-correcting raspberry oil, and revitalizing cranberry oil.

Directions: Apply day and night all over the face or just on the more oily, acne-prone, and blackhead-prone areas. Yasuni may be blended with our Farizad's Veil Sun Reflector to add sun protection and to mattify the skin. Yasuni may also be blended with a few drops of a facial oil of choice for a looser, juicier balm.

DERMA E remains one of my very favorite affordable cruelty-free natural skincare brands, and I use their products all of the time. They make so many amazing products that live up to their claims, that pamper the skin, and that don't break the budget. I also love that their products are sold at Whole Foods Market– therefore I can easily pick things up while I am grocery shopping!

First, it is rich and thick and yet it melts into the skin effortlessly and quickly. While it is formulated as a deep wrinkle moisturizer, and I don't have any deep wrinkles, I do find that it works well for my normal to combination skin with some fine lines.  The peptide-rich formula, in concert with the Matrixyl® synthe’6®, Argireline® and plant extract Pycnogenol®, makes this an effective cream that softens and smooths the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, the antioxidant-rich ingredients intensely hydrate, protect and nourish the skin and leaves it moisturized and supple. I would be very curious to hear from any of you who have deep wrinkles to see whether you have tried this cream, and whether it has softened their appearance. I definitely see that my fine lines look softer and smoother, and the extent to which it moisturizes my skin is very impressive. There is no real detectable scent, and therefore it shouldn't pose a problem for anyone who is sensitive to fragrant skincare products.

DERMA E Firming DMAE Eye Lift ($24.95 for 1/2 oz. from DERMA E): This is a very lightweight and fast-absorbing eye cream that is formulated to hydrate, lift, firm, smooth and tighten the delicate skin around the eyes while softening the appearance of fine lines. It is very concentrated, and therefore only a tiny amount is needed for both eyes. After using it for a couple of weeks I definitely noticed that the delicate skin under my eyes looked soft, supple, hydrated, luminous, lifted and my fine lines were softened. It's a really effective eye cream, and the price is quite a bargain. It has no detectable scent, and it doesn't irritate my sensitive eyes.

Tata Harper Illuminating Eye Crème | Review #TataHarper

Tata Harper Illuminating Eye Crème is my latest purchase from Tata Harper, and as you know from my last Tata Harper review (HERE and HERE), I really love this brand. I should probably tell you that this was a bit of an impulse buy– because I had no intention of making this purchase, but when I saw it in the display I tested it on my arm and was too intrigued and curious not to try it.

Described as an, "age-defying eye cream with a universal pearl blush tint that minimizes the look of lines and wrinkles and instantly illuminates with diamond dust"– I thought that this would be the perfect combination of a luminizer and a nourishing eye cream, and it does not disappoint.

If you love Tata Harper skincare, then this eye cream definitely lives up to the rest of the line. It is a lightweight cream that has a creamy and smooth texture and consistency that resides somewhere between a serum and a lotion. It melts into the skin upon contact, can be used on the eyelids as well as below the eyes, and feels refreshing against the skin. It is filled with nourishing ingredients and hydrators, such as Hyaluronic Acid, Shea Butter, and all sorts of active extracts and oils that smooth and plump fine lines, reduce the appearance of puffiness and dark circles and leave skin soft, smooth, hydrated and supple. Additionally, the "Diamond Dust Mineral Blend" subtly illuminates the skin and optically blurs imperfections. It has a light pink tint, that is pearl infused, as you can see in the swatch below, but when it sinks into the skin it imparts no color, but just a light luminosity.

It has a very light herbal aroma from the natural ingredients, not from artificial fragrances, but it in no way irritates my very sensitive eyes. It takes very little to make my eyes water, and there is absolutely no hint of irritation or discomfort for me when using this cream.

Admittedly, I have many eye creams, and I didn't need another one, but the texture and the luminizing effects made this a must-try for me.

Overall Assessment: I am so happy that I bought this eye cream, and it is definitely one of my most recent green beauty obsessions. A+

Tata Harper Resurfacing Serum | Review #TataHarper

Tata Harper Resurfacing Serum is an ultra-effective exfoliating serum that gently exfoliates dead skin cells, with a blend of Alpha Hydroxy and Beta Hydroxy Acids, to reveal healthy luminous skin. Unlike many AHA and BHA skin treatments, that can have a tendency to dry skin, Tata Harper has formulated this special serum to hydrate and condition the skin without compromising its ability to exfoliate dead skin.

Tomato Carotenoids, which are found in this serum and are known to absorb UVA and UVB, when exposed to sunlight, are not a replacement for a high SPF sunscreen. Whenever one exfoliates the skin, it is imperative to give the skin extra UV protection, and I therefore never leave the house with anything lower than an SPF30. Additionally, since this is a resurfacing serum that exfoliates dead skin cells, it really should be used alone, and not in conjunction with other products known to exfoliate (i.e. exfoliating scrubs, exfoliating pads, peels, exfoliating serums, retinoids and retinol-based products etc.). Not only does the Tata Harper Resurfacing Serum, which is based upon her wildly popular Resurfacing Mask, exfoliate the skin with impressive efficacy, but it does so efficiently and quickly. I saw a brightening effect after only a couple of uses.

I have neither experienced redness, nor peeling, and my normal/combination skin has never felt irritated or sensitive after use. Furthermore, I don't feel any discomfort or tingling. I should note, however, that I exfoliate regularly and generally do not see the obvious signs, such as peeling or flaking skin, after use. If you don't exfoliate often, you will likely experience dead cells pilling and rolling off of the skin as you massage in the serum. I patch tested it on a spot on my hand where I had not exfoliated in a while, and I was able to get the dead skin cells to ball up.

The serum boasts a lightweight and fast-absorbing texture that hydrates, brightens and leaves skin unbelievably soft, smooth and unmistakably luminous. I use it either day and night, or at night, and I am quite impressed by my results. Like other Tata Harper products, this has an earthy aroma that I find quite pleasant, but it is neither overpowering, nor does it linger.
