Tata Harper Luxury Organic Skincare: Is it Worth the Hype?

Purchased (Affiliate Links)

When the Makeup Wars! Team decided to feature beauty products that live up to all of their hype, I immediately knew that I wanted to feature Tata Harper skincare. Among the many organic skincare brands on the market, it is undoubtedly one of the most hyped. There are a few key products that I loved from the moment that I began using them, and that resulted in full-size purchases, but the more that I tried from the brand, the more that I loved everything about these beautifully handcrafted luxury green beauty treasures. Add to this that my sister has a few bonafide holy grail favorites from Tata Harper, and I knew that I needed to talk more about this brand. I should note that this ultra-luxe line is housed in chic green glass that is quite fetching, but attractive luxury packaging aside, it really is the contents that make this a truly covet-worthy brand. Does Tata Harper live up to the hype? The short answer is yes. I will note that each of the products have a detectable aroma, but it is a natural scent from the ingredients and the essential oils. I neither find her products overpowering, nor would I categorize the aromas as long-lasting. However, if you prefer skincare products that lack any scent, then you should smell and test this range before committing to it. Furthermore, since Tata Harper products are widely available, you should have no problem securing samples to try before you buy.

Tata Harper, whose eponymously named skincare brand is handcrafted on her farm in Vermont, first sought to create a natural skincare brand as a response to her step-father's cancer diagnosis. This propelled her to examine, and learn about, all of the potentially harmful multisyllabic ingredients in all of her personal care products, and to ultimately create products that were healthy and luxurious.

About Tata Harper,

A pioneer in natural luxury skincare, Tata couldn't find 100% natural products that were up to her impeccable standards of efficacy, quality, and purity. So she started Tata Harper Skincare to make them - for herself, and for women like her who refuse to risk their health for beauty. If she doesn’t feel that a product is perfect, we won’t launch it.
Tata Harper Regenerating Cleanser ($42.00 for oz. and $78.00 for 4.1 oz. from Space NK, Sephora, NordstromNet-A-Porter, Cult Beauty, The Detox Market, Credo Beauty, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, goop, Selfridges and Bergdorf Goodman): This is one of the wonder-products for which I had numerous samples, and I knew fairly quickly that I would need to purchase a full-size large bottle. It is also among my beloved sister's holy grail products, and anything that she raves about is something that I have to have! There is no one that I trust more, and if she loves it, there is little chance that I won't as well.

While I tend to prefer lathering cleansers, in general, this gentle cleanser, which has a light cream consistency that is filled with gentle and refined exfoliating particles, is one that definitely ranks among my favorite cleansers. It gently exfoliates dead skin cells, unclogs congested pores and it hydrates, rather than strips and dries out, the skin. Many moisturizing cleansers leave behind a greasy film, and make one feel the need to double wash, but this leaves behind no sort of unpleasant residue. Skin is left soft, smooth, supple and luminous. It has a very faint fruity aroma, presumably from the essential oils blend, but it is not in the least bit overpowering, and it does not linger.

According to Tata Harper,

This gentle exfoliating cleansing treatment acts as a 4-in-1 product to thoroughly cleanse and improve glow while purifying, minimizing the appearance of pores and helping to protect the skin’s natural hydration balance. Free of soaps, alcohols and detergents, this cleanser clarifies with fresh enzymes, clays and essential oils, while microspherical beads polish the skin and reduce appearance of blackheads – all without stripping the skin of moisture. Skin is left feeling balanced, hydrated and glowing. Minimizes the appearance of pores. Deeply cleanses and decongests the skin.

It is an ultra-hydrating serum that is lightweight and very fast absorbing, and it immediately gives the skin a dewy luminous glow. The antioxidant-rich formula protects the skin against free-radicals, the Hyaluronic Acid binds moisture and plumps fine lines, and the vitamins, natural oils and extracts soften the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and leave the skin soft, smooth, moisturized and luminous. There is no residue left behind whatsoever, and the fruity natural aroma is neither cloying, nor long-lasting. For the record, next time I am buying the largest bottle because I am hooked!

Tata Harper Repairative Moisturizer ($105.00 for 1.7 oz. from Space NK, Sephora, Nordstrom, Net-A-Porter, Cult Beauty, The Detox Market, Credo Beauty, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Selfridges, Birchbox and Bergdorf Goodman): While this is described as a rich moisturizer for dry and dehydrated skin, I can tell you that it is a godsend for my normal/combination skin. It is ultra-lightweight and fast absorbing, and yet richly moisturizing. The consistency is silky-smooth and the aroma is a light and hypnotic blend of the the essential oils blend, and therefore it creates such an immensely pleasurable tactile and olfactory sensation. Skin is left soft, smooth, supple and hydrated. Furthermore, fine lines are plumped and skin is left with a luminous dewy finish.

According to Tata Harper,

A rich, ultra-hydrating moisturizer, ideal for dehydrated skin, winter months, and dry climates. This silky, rich formula delivers high-performance hydration with its blend of biocompatible hyaluronic acid and natural humectants for an optimal moisture balance and a plump look. Contributes to a radiant complexion, leaving the skin with a dewy finish.

Tata Harper Beautifying Face Oil (This item appears to have been discontinued): Given my penchant for beauty oils, there was no question that I was going to have to get all of the face oils, and this one is a true delight. It is a very lightweight and fast absorbing nourishing oil that leaves skin very soft, smooth, supple, luminous and hydrated. I apply it to slightly damp, freshly washed skin, and I often add another drop or two to my foundation for a dewy finish, and the benefits are immediately seen. It has a warm aroma from the essential oils blend, but I find that it fades soon upon absorption.

According to Tata Harper,

Lightweight face oil to energize and revitalize the look of the skin. Beautifying Face Oil is an incredibly light-weight and fast absorbing face oil that helps instantly energize the look of your silky soft skin. The freshly hydrated finish promotes a brighter, firmer appearance. Use it alone or over a rich moisturizer to lock in hydration.
Ingredients: Squalane, Jojoba Esters, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil*, Argania spinosa (Argan) Kernel oil*, Plukenetia Volubilis Seed Oil*, Camellia Oleifera Seed Oil*, Sambucus Nigra Fruit Extract, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Arnica montana (Arnica) Extract*, Borago officinalis (Borage) Leaf Extract*, Medicago sativa (Alfalfa) Extract*, Spiraea Ulmaria Flower Extract*, Calendula officinalis (Calendula) Flower Extract*, Alaria Esculenta Extract, Tocopherol, Aroma**, Linalool, Limonene *Ingredients from Organic farming **Clinical grade essential oils blend.
Tata Harper Retinoic Nutrient Face Oil ($125.00 for 1 oz. from Space NK, Sephora, Net-A-Porter, Cult Beauty, The Detox Market, Credo Beauty, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, goop and Bergdorf Goodman): This antioxidant-rich face oil was conceived to hydrate dull, lackluster skin that is in need of brightening and hydrating. The nutrient-rich formula restores moisture to irritated, dry and chapped skin, and is the perfect choice for all skin types– especially during the colder months of the year when dehydration is more prevalent. The oil is lightweight, fast absorbing and it leaves behind no oily residue whatsoever. Skin is left plumped, hydrated, unbelievably soft, smooth and supple.

I cannot sufficiently underscore the extent to which this oil softens the skin and makes it feel silky smooth– it is among those magical unicorn products that come along all too infrequently. My husband immediately noticed, and said that my skin looked amazing and he couldn't believe how soft it felt. I apply it to damp, freshly washed skin, and luxuriate in the deep and warm natural aroma. While I love the scent imparted by the essential oils, it is a bit stronger than the other products that I have tried, but it does fade rather quickly.

According to Tata Harper,

Retinoic Nutrient Face Oil, how we—and seemingly, everyone who tries you—love thee. This is a concentrated face oil that infuses the skin with essential vitamins, amino acids, minerals, and antioxidants to transform, dry irritated patches into balanced and radiant skin. Mixing it with your serum is kind of like topically delivering a super-vitamin to your skin on a daily basis.

Features:
  • 100% of the total ingredients are from natural origin.
  • 82% of the total ingredients are from Organic Farming.
  • Natural Cosmetic certified by Ecocert Greenlife according to Ecocert Standard.
Ingredients: Rosa Rubiginosa Seed Oil*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil*, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Prunus armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil*, Sambucus Nigra Fruit Extract, Calendula officinalis (Calendula) Flower Extract*, Borago officinalis (Borage) Leaf Extract, Medicago sativa (Alfalfa) Extract*, Arnica montana (Arnica) Extract*, Tilia europaea (Linden) Leaf & Flower Extract*, Aroma**, Benzyl Alcohol, Citral, Citronellol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool *Ingredients from Organic farming **Clinical grade essential oils blend.
Tata Harper Revitalizing Body Oil ($95.00 for 4.1 oz. from Space NKSephoraNordstromNet-A-PorterCult BeautyThe Detox MarketCredo BeautySaks Fifth AvenueNeiman Marcusgoop and Bergdorf Goodman): I use body oils as often as I use face oils, that is to say that I use them at least twice a day. In fact, I often use body oils in lieu of lotions, creams and body butters, but layer them together when the weather is either quite cold, or quite warm and I need added moisture from the elements. This delectable and decadent light to mid-weight oil is fast-absorbing, ultra-hydrating and leaves behind no greasy residue. The nutrient, vitamin and mineral-rich formula immediately moisturizes dry, dehydrated skin, heals chapped, rough patches and leaves skin silky smooth and luminous. It has a pronounced aroma from the essential oils blend, and it does linger for a while. I am transfixed by its gorgeous scent, but if you are sensitive to lingering scents, you may find this one a bit more imposing until it fades away (which takes about 20 minutes on me).

According to Tata Harper,

A decadent, delicious treatment for the entire body that delivers visibly radiant, youthful looking skin.
This fast-absorbing body oil provides comprehensive hydrating and invigorating benefits to the entire body for a youthful looking appearance. Essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients help promote healthy looking skin while moisturizing and helping to relieve dry, rough patches. Leaves skin feeling noticeably softer and smoother.

Ingredients: Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil, Sambucus Nigra Fruit Extract, Aroma**, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil*, Argania spinosa (Argan) Kernel oil*, Camellia Oleifera Seed Oil*, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil*, Camellia sinensis (Green Tea) seed oil*, Prunus armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil*, Oenothera biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil*, Borago officinalis (Borage) Leaf Extract, Medicago Sativa (Alfalfa) Extract*, Plukenetia Volubilis Seed Oil*, Arnica montana (Arnica) Extract*, Spiraea Ulmaria Flower Extract*, Calendula officinalis (Calendula) Flower Extract*, Benzyl Alcohol, Citral, Citronellol, Eugenol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool *Ingredients from Organic farming **Clinical grade essential oils blend.
Tata Harper Very Charming Volumizing Lip & Cheek Tint ($36.00 for 4.5 g from Space NK, Sephora, Nordstrom, Net-A-Porter, Cult Beauty, The Detox Market, Credo BeautyNeiman Marcus, goop, Birchbox and Bergdorf Goodman): This emollient lip and cheek tint offers buildable semi-opaque coverage, comfortable wear and superb hydration. It lightly plumps lips without any discomfort whatsoever, and leaves cheeks with a beautiful lit-from within glow with a perfect pink flush. There is a slight fruity scent in the glass pot, but there is no detectable taste once on the lips.

According to Tata Harper,

Delivers the perfect pop of color and a plump, youthful look to lips and cheeks. This smooth, easily buildable tint delivers the perfect pop of natural color to lips and a blush to cheeks while moisturizing and helping to minimize the look of fine lines, for skin that has the irresistible flush and voluminous look of youth.
Ingredients: Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit extract, Caprylic/Capric/Triglyceride, Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil*, Ricinus Communis (castor) Seed Oil, Cera Alba/Beeswax*, Titanium Dioxide, Olus/Vegetable Oil*, Mica, Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) Seed wax, Camellia sinensis (Green Tea) seed oil*, Palmitoyl Isoleucine, Euterpe oleracea (Acai) fruit oil*, Plukenetia Volubilis Seed Oil*, Carmine, Octyldodecanol, Lavandula stoechas (Spanish Lavender) Extract, Arnica montana (Arnica) Extract*, Borago officinalis (Borage) Leaf Extract*, Medicago sativa (Alfalfa) Extract*, Spiraea Ulmaria Flower Extract*, Calendula officinalis (Calendula) Flower Extract*, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil*, Sambucus Nigra Fruit Extract, Tocopherol, Jojoba Esters, Alumina, Silica, Trihydroxystearin, Iron Oxides (C.I. 77492, C.I. 77491), Natural and Organic flavors *Ingredients from Organic farming.
Overall Assessment: I most definitely think that Tata Harper products are worth the hype. Beyond the beautiful packaging, one finds potent products that deliver upon their claims, and that indulge the skin and the senses in ultra-luxe pampering. If you are concerned about whether you will like the various aromas from the essential oils blends used in Tata Harper skincare products, then I would urge you to request samples from retailers or etailers to see what you think before investing in full-size products. Be aware that many of the products come in a couple of different sizes, and this time of year there are lots of gift sets that include deluxe samples.

  1. I couldn't agree more about the Repairitive Moisturizer. I just started using a deluxe sample from my Space NK bag, and I literally stopped in my tracks at how nourishing it is despite the light texture. And a little goes a long way, just like the Regenerative Cleanser that is part of my daily routine. Thanks for highlighting these great products!

  3. What an excellent and thorough review of Tata Harper Skincare, Helen! I don't think I have tried the brand yet, and I had no idea about the backstory or that she's from Vermont! I know you said that the brand is widely available, but I don't think I've seen it in my neck o' the woods. Not sure if my little Sephora carries it. The green packaging, especially now that I know it's from Vermont, is very appealing as are the natural ingredients. Someday, I will try to get some samples from somewhere!

    1. Thank you, Allison! She's actually a native Columbian, and she and her husband moved to Vermont. The Sephora closest to my house only has a small section in one of the small displays on one of the small main aisle displays. Therefore, it might be worth taking a closer look to see if your Sephora has it. It is also stocked at Space NK and numerous other retailers– so hopefully you will be able to find a display and samples somewhere close to you. The ingredients and packaging are very impressive, and the efficacy is noteworthy!
