Skin, Body Care and Makeup Empties for June 2021

Purchased and Press Samples (Affiliate Links)

I somehow thought that I would use up a few more open products in June than I did, but I did manage to use up a few things before they started to turn. I have to preface this by stating that I have really shifted my attention to using up products that I love, and that I would happily use again. That said, I am swimming in skincare and body care products, and it will likely be a while before I need to repurchase anything.

Here is what I used up in June 2021:

Pai Rosehip BioRegenerating Oil ($44.00 for 1 oz. from Credo BeautyBeauty ExpertFollainThe Detox MarketFree PeoplePai's Amazon StoreCult Beauty and Goop): This amber colored nourishing oil, which is suitable for all types of skin, is ultra-rich in Omegas that help regenerate skin without irritating even the most sensitive skin types. It is formulated to combat dullness, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, blemishes, flaky skin, scars, sun damage and dryness.

It is a lightweight, and fast absorbing oil, that neither leaves behind an oily residue, nor an amber stain on the skin. It has a warm and earthy natural aroma that fades soon upon absorption. I simply apply it to warm, and slightly damp, freshly cleansed skin, and immediately note that my skin feels soft, smooth, supple, deeply moisturized and luminous. Its antioxidant-rich anti-inflammatory ingredients calm and soothe irritated skin, and it effectively reduces inflammation when skin is irritated from breakouts or post-peel redness. Repurchase? At some point I definitely will!

African Botanics Résurrection Eye Crème ($180.00 for 0.50 oz. from African BotanicsRevolve and Credo Beauty): The consistency of Résurrection Eye Crème is lightweight and fast absorbing, and this silky smooth cream absolutely melts into the skin in the most luxurious way imaginable. It has a silky, ultra-refined texture without any of the granular particles typically found in many Shea Butter- based products. Unlike the original eye cream, that was housed in a glass pot, this new eye cream comes in an elegant air-tight glass bottle with a pump.

This beautiful eye cream is healing, hydrating and restorative– leaving the delicate eye area looking and feeling refreshed and youthful. This beautiful, and effective formula, plumps fine lines, lifts and nourishes the delicate skin around the eyes, deeply hydrates the skin, and leaves skin with an pronounced clarity and luminosity. The potent healthy ingredients, serious efficacy and superior texture make this eye cream such a joy to use. This luxe eye cream can be used day and night, and because the results are so astounding it is doubtful that you will ever want to use another eye cream. It is remarkably concentrated– therefore, only the smallest amount delivers enviable results, and therefore this bottle will last much longer than expected. Repurchase? I opened another bottle already (it is now in a pump bottle rather than a jar).

Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks ($70.00 for 20 discs from Dermstore, Olivela and the official Colbert MD Amazon Store): I have regularly used various types of facial exfoliating pads for many years, and have to confess that my experience with Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks was a real game changer for me all of those years ago. While most of the solution soaked exfoliating pads that I have used are thin and double sided, Colbert MD has reimagined its form and instead has opted for a very plush and thick single sided pad. The generously saturated pre-moistened disks include a small tab on the back that makes holding the disk easy, and allows one to maintain effortless control.

The combination of the mild microdermabrasion action from the surface of the pad coupled with the enzyme action of the solution immediately and effectively encourages cell turnover that aids in the promotion of collagen production. Skin, unobstructed by a proliferation of dead skin cells, is then able to effortlessly and effectively absorb skincare products. The end result is unbelievably soft, smooth, supple and luminous skin. Repurchase? At some point I definitely will, but I have a few other similar products to use up first!

Spongellé Hand Defense Hand Wash Infused Buffer ($14.00 each or $56.00 for a 4-pack from Spongellé): Spongellé Hand Defense is a wonderful new addition to the Spongellé line, and this launch offers a perfect way to thoroughly wash hands during the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, you won't mind how often that you need to wash your hands given that these soap infused sponges thoroughly clean and exfoliate, plus they get into every hard to reach spot. Additionally, they don't strip the skin, but instead they leave it hydrated, soft and smooth. The four available scents are delicious, and the creamy lather is incredibly satisfying to the touch. Spongellé suggests that each sponge offers 40+ washes, but I always find that I get more washes out of all of their products than they suggest. Repurchase? I have two more to use before I will need to purchase more.

Fruits of the Islands Toasted Coconut Glycerin Loofah Bar: Several years ago, a very good friend of mine bought me several glycerin loofah bars while on vacation in Hawaii. These appear to have come from a candy company, and they do not appear to sell these anymore, but there are many other companies who produce glycerin soap infused loofahs. They offer such a wonderful way to clean and exfoliate at the same time, and they are great for hand washing as well as bathing. Repurchase? I have lots of soaps to use first, but I definitely liked this enough to use something like it again!
Rituals Shower Happy Buddha Sweet Orange & Cedar Foaming Shower Gel Sensation (Full size $15.00 for 6.7 oz. from Rituals): Longtime readers already know how much I love Rituals products, and their rich and creamy Shower Gels are among my very favorite body washes. Happy Buddha's delectable dense foam, coupled with its intoxicating sweet orange and cedar aroma, make this a shower-time treat that delights the senses. Furthermore, this is a very moisturizing body wash that thoroughly cleanses the skin without any stripping. I also love to use this to shave my legs and underarms! Repurchase? I have another can of this scent, and quite a few others to use first. However, I love their Foaming Shower Gels, and once I run out of them I will buy another one!
Philip B Oud Royal Forever Shine Shampoo ($84.00 for 7.4 oz. from Philip B.NordstromSpace NK and Net-a-Porter.): is utterly unbelievable! This ultra-nourishing shampoo features time-released botanical moisturizers that make hair soft, supple, hydrated and give it a praiseworthy glossy shine. Oud Royal Forever Shine Shampoo is able to give my naturally curly hair unprecedented shine, and those among you with curly tresses know the extent to which it is difficult achieve shiny curly hair, but this miracle formula really delivers serious shine. Repurchase? Oh what decadent luxury! Perhaps one day, but I do have another Philip B shampoo to use first.

Philip B. Oud Royal Thermal Protection Spray ($32.00 for 4.23 oz. from Bloomingdale'sDermstore, and Net-A-Porter): This is a weightless and lovely-scented spray that protects hair from from heated styling tools while imparting greater shine. Furthermore, it is loaded with a mixture of botanical hydrators that condition hair. Repurchase? I am searching to see if I have one more bottle of this magic potion, and if I don't I will; purchase another!

Tom Ford Lip Color Lipstick in Vanilla Suede and So So Vain ($56.00 from Nordstrom and Sephora): Tom Ford's creamy dreamy lipsticks are a true thing of beauty, and they are gorgeous on the lips with their impressive pigmentation and finish. I used up most of Vanilla Suede, but when I went to use it recently, I noticed that it had become rancid. So So Vain, which is an extraordinarily beautiful shade, also turned rancid. I am more upset about the latter, than the former– what a waste. Repurchase? I am trying to purchase cruelty-free products that are clean, and both of these shades appear to have been discontinued anyway.

Tom Ford Traceless Foundation SPF 15 in Pale Dune (Discontinued formula): I absolutely loved this foundation formula, and color, so much. It offered light and seamless coverage. I wanted to photograph it before I tried to pry the top off to get the last few drops at the bottom of the bottle. Would I repurchase it if it were still made? That is a tough question. I am really moving away from brands filled with chemicals, and that are not cruelty-free.

COCOFLOSS ($9.00 each. Available at Credo Beauty and goop): Cocofloss is a very effective dental floss that deeply cleans teeth and is gentle and soothing on the gums. It actually makes flossing something that I look forward to, and it is available in 4 coconut infused flavors: Delicious Mint, Pure Strawberries, Fresh Coconut and Cara Cara Orange. Repurchase? Definitely, I love this stuff– especially the Delicious Mint. However, I need to use up the other floss that I have first.

Overall Assessment: I called it last month when I said that I wasn't going to be able to finish as many open products in June as I did in May, but I am glad that I finished up some of my favorite products before they became unusable! What did you use up, toss out, return or give away in June? Any great discoveries or regrettable purchases?

March 2021 Skin, Body and Hair Product Empties Galore

Press Sample & Purchased (Affiliate Links)

It is safe to say, that one of things that I have learned about working from home during the pandemic is that I am really motivated to use up open products before they expire, or start to spoil. I actually surprised myself in March because I did better than I expected. I hope that I am able to finish up as many opened products in April, but I am not sure that will happen unless I find lots of nearly finished open products.
African Botanics Neroli Infused Marula Oil ($120.00 for 1 oz from African Botanics, Dermstore, Credo Beauty, Bluemercury and Net-A-Porter): Neroli Infused Marula Oil is a lovely fast absorbing and deeply nourishing lightweight oil that smells divine, and imparts an unbelievable healthy glow. African Botanics Neroli Infused Marula Oil remains one of my all-time favorite oils because it keeps my skin perfectly balanced, deeply nourished and moisturized, and with an unbelievable luminosity and clarity. It is so nourishing and moisturizing, in fact, that I have been able to forgo an added moisturizing cream at night. I have even used this as my sole moisturizer during the day and my skin looked and felt amazing. I have even been adding a few drops to my foundations and tinted moisturizers and it most definitely enhances their effects. Purchase Again? This is an old bottle that I had nearly finished while I had a nw bottle already open. Thankfully the last bits were still good so I finished it up! This is one of my all-time favorite luxury face oils.

African Botanics Rose Treatment Essence ($160.00 for 1.7 oz./50 ml.from African BotanicsCredo Beauty and Net-A-Porter): is a truly unique multipurpose treatment gel that transforms from a gel into a aromatic Rosa Centifolia infused liquid that immediately melts into the skin. Formulated to tone, temporarily diminish the appearance of enlarged pores, hydrate, brighten, detoxify and refine the skin– this magical vitamin and mineral infused antioxidant-rich, anti-inflammatory elixir is nourishing, moisturizing, refreshing, healing and calming. My skin feels remarkably soft, supple, toned, hydrated and luminous after use, and it pairs perfectly with any of my face oils for that matter. I simply apply this in the morning and evening to freshly cleansed skin before my beauty oil, and let it work its magic.

If you have a tendency to breakout, or have sensitive skin and inflammation, then this gentle healing gel is worthy of your attention. I have noticed such a difference in the appearance of my skin since I started using this gem. While my skin isn't generally prone to serious irritation and inflammation, it can be sensitive at times, and this gel really makes a big difference. Since I test a lot of skincare products, there are times that I have to endure product related dermatitis when my skin has a reaction to certain products, and this works wonders to heal my skin. What I noted was immediate relief, a swift reduction in the inflammation and itch, and a quick return to balanced happy skin. Purchase Again? I need to see if I have another bottle in my drawer, but will definitely want this again if I don't!

African Botanics Marula Resurrection Cell Recovery Serum ($160.00 for 1 oz./30ml. from African BotanicsCredo Beauty and Cult Beauty): The lightweight, and fast absorbing, gel-like serum is filled with an array of healthy, antioxidant-rich botanicals, highly effective Swiss Garden Cress Liposomes and Peptides, Retinol, Resveratrol and Green Sea Algae– to name but a few of their potent, carefully selected ingredients. This serum increases collagen synthesis, accelerates skin cell-turnover, plumps and reduces the appearance of fine lines, improves elasticity and tone, deeply nourishes and hydrates skin and it reveals luminous, youthful skin.

My skin appears refreshed, luminous, even in texture and skin-tone, lifted and ultra-hydrated. I simply massage a small amount into my face, neck, décolleté and under eye area and go to sleep, and when I awaken my skin appears as though I had a serious rejuvenating, anti-aging facial and peel. This serum is suitable for all skin types, and is non-comedogenic. Purchase Again? I just opened another bottle!

Tatcha The Indigo Cream ($85.00 for 1.7 oz. from TATCHA, Sephora and Violet Grey): If you have ultra sensitive skin, Eczema, or Rosacea, and you seek a highly effective anti-aging cream that will soothe, rather than further irritate your skin, then TATCHA has created the perfect cream to calm, heal and lift your skin. This healing cream made with Japanese Indigo and 3% Colloidal Oatmeal– both of which are highly effective ingredients that soothe, calm and comfort irritated and volatile skin. Furthermore, the ingredients chosen are highly effective for nourishing and moisturizing while simultaneously lifting and firming the skin. While I neither have eczema, nor rosacea– my skin can become sensitive and irritated at times. Periodically, while testing out new products, my skin becomes irritated and reactive, and one of the hallmarks of this type of skin eruption is the appearance of product related dermatitis. When this occurs I develop unsightly (at least to me) small patches of dry skin that peel and flake. While this is a good barometer for products, or ingredients, to avoid it is unpleasant and difficult to treat– particularly if you want to avoid pharmaceutical medicines, as do I. This cream immediately leaves irritated skin soothed, calmed and comfortable. Purchase Again? I just opened another jar!
Shu Uemura Ultime8 Sublime Beauty Cleansing Oil ($9.80-$96.00 for 1.69 oz to 15.22 oz. Shu Uemura USA): This ultra-luxe rich and emollient cleansing oil has a luscious lightweight consistency that leaves skin soft, smooth, supple and luxuriously hydrated. While it can be used by all skin types, I suspect that it will be coveted by people with normal to dry skin. When water is introduced, this cleansing oil also transforms into a rich and creamy milky emulsion that gently removes every trace of dirt and makeup without ever stripping the skin, and it leaves skin velvety soft and smooth without leaving behind a greasy residue. It has a warm and creamy aroma that I find intoxicatingly delicious. Purchase Again? Not in the near future, because I have numerous cleansing oils to use first.

Origins Clean Energy Gentle Cleansing Oil ($32.00 for 6.7 oz. from Origins,  Macy'sAmazonJohn Lewis and Selfridges (Affiliate Links).not only highly effective, but as the name suggests it is also very gentle, and is even perfectly suited for sensitive skin types. Furthermore, it is exceedingly pleasant to use, and the mild herbal and citrus scent is lovely, but is neither overpowering, nor is it pungent. In fact, the scent fades so quickly that it becomes barely detectable. The oil, itself, is lightweight and easy to use. After massaging it into dry skin, simply add a touch of warm water to your hands and the oil quickly transforms into a milky emulsion that removes every trace of makeup and dirt, and it washes away completely leaving behind no oily residue. Skin is left scrumptiously soft, supple and moisturized. Purchase Again? Definitely.
Colbert MD Tone Control Facial Disks ($80.00 for 20 disks from Dermstore and Olivela): Most of the solution soaked exfoliating pads that I have used are thin and double sided, Colbert MD has broken this mold by opting for a very plush and thick single-sided pad. The generously saturated pre-moistened disks include a small tab on the back that makes holding them very easy, and it allows one to maintain effortless control. While I thought that I had achieved exfoliating pad nirvana with the Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks, I discovered that Colbert MD Tone Control Facial Disks are a whole different level of paradigm shifting exfoliating pads. Not only do these pre-moistened disks provide effective, and gentle, microdermabrasion from the surface texture of the pad, but they also encourage cell turnover that aids in the promotion of collagen production. Skin, unobstructed by a proliferation of dead skin cells, is then able to effortlessly and effectively absorb skincare products. The end result is unbelievably silky soft, smooth, supple and luminous skin. Additionally, Colbert MD Tone Control Facial Disks are saturated with ingredients that even out skin tone, lighten dark spots (hyperpigmentation), soothe redness and brighten the complexion. Repurchase? I have an unopened box ready to go!
Erno Laszlo Multi-Task Eye Serum Mask ($38.00 for 6 masks from Erno LaszloNordstromSkinStoreLOOKFANTASTICViolet Grey and Saks Fifth Avenue): I received mine as a gift with purchase, and I am so glad that I did because I wouldn't have likely tried them otherwise. Described as a multitasking eye mask infused in a serum of Vitamin B3, Algae Extract and Amino Acids, this mask promises to soften the appearance of dark circles, reduce under eye puffiness and soften the appearance of fine lines. In addition to those wonderful attributes, I also found that this eye mask refreshed my skin and left it soft, smooth, hydrated and radiant. I am very pleased with the results, and am thrilled that this wonderful gel mask made its way into my over-Zoomed life! Purchase Again? I have another pack of two sets that I am about to use. I definitely like these enough to purchase more!
Sisley Paris Sisleya Eye and Lip Contour Cream ($225.00 for 0.50 oz. from NordstromNeiman MarcusBergdorf GoodmanSelfridgesBloomingdale'sSaks Fifth AvenueViolet GreyLiberty London,  and Harrods): The cream, which is touted as an effective anti-aging product, is formulated to treat the delicate areas around the eyes and mouth, and this immediately appealed to me because of its claims to soften the appearance of fine lines, to reduce under eye puffiness and its ability to treat dark circles.

I have some fine lines, but it was really the need to treat dark circles and under eye puffiness that I have sought to treat. While I would neither characterize my dark circles and under eye puffiness as extreme, by any means, they both occur whenever I don't get enough sleep (which is quite often). I work very long hours, sit in Los Angeles traffic commuting for what seems like incalculable amounts of time on a daily basis, and often continue to work when I finally return home. The outcome is that I often don't get enough sleep, and when that happens I often wake up with dark circles and under eye puffiness, and therefore this eye cream and this Ridoki Massage Applicator Massage Tool seemed like a justifiable expense to me. Purchase Again? Maybe, but I have lots of other lip products to use first.

VENeffect Anti-Aging Lip Treatment ($85.00 for 0.34 oz./10ml. from VENeffect and Space NK): When your lip balm obsession has reached a fever pitch, and you seek a powerhouse antioxidant rich anti-aging lip product that is less a balm and more of a cream-based treatment, then it is time to enter the fold of VENeffect Anti-Aging Lip Treatment. The consistency of this elegant treatment feels more like a lightweight eye cream than a balm, but it works faster and more effectively than a balm. It sinks into the lips and the surrounding skin quickly leaving behind a thin veil of moisture. It imparts immediate hydration while it gently plumps and smooths the skin. Additionally, if you have vertical lines around your lips, into which lipsticks bleed, it is worthy to note that VENeffect Anti-Aging Lip Treatment  is formulated to soften, reduce and plump them. Furthermore, this potent little pot serves as a wonderful lipstick base that enhances the longevity of of wear-time and prevents lipstick from bleeding. Purchase Again? I have another little pot in use already!

By Terry Baume de Rose Lip Balm ($60.00 for oz. from Bloomingdales, Space NK, Nordstrom, Violet Grey, Dermstore and Cult Beauty): I love this lip balm and it does wonders for my lips when they are very chapped. Baume de Rose has a rather thick consistency that thoroughly coats the lips without feeling heavy or uncomfortable. It is not sticky in the least bit, and has the perfect amount of cushion. It has the quintessential By Terry rose scent, which I find delightful, but may be problematic to those who avoid scented lip products. I often use it at night and when I wake up my lips feel like velvet. Purchase Again? I have a full size pot open already.

GODAI SOAP SKY 空 (CALMING BAR SOAP) $8.95 for Single Godai Soaps (4 oz.): "The Sky, or void, element represents a higher conscious state of peace and calm, and Godai’s 空 Sky Bar Soap & Shampoo draws from this element with a calming blend of lavender oil, eucalyptus, and orange oil to soothe irritation by reducing inflammation and dryness." One might think that the combination of lavender, eucalyptus and orange might be too sharp and assertive, and yet this blend is smooth, warm and comforting. Purchase Again?: I have a few more of their bars that I am currently using.

GODAI SOAP WATER 水 (MOISTURIZING BAR SOAP) $8.95 for Single Godai Soaps (4 oz.): "Water is the element that is necessary to all life on Earth, and Godai’s 水 Water Bar Soap & Shampoo mirror this element through a hydrating mix of organic cocoa butter, shea butter, and white clay to provide a smoother, healthier complexion." The sweet orange, tangerine and ylang ylang oils create a rich, smooth, and creamy aroma that is punctuated by the citrus notes that are neither too assertive, nor in the least bit cloying. Purchase Again? I have a few more of their bars that I am currently using.

Sibu Sea Berry Therapy Cleansing Face & Body Bar ($7.95 for a 3.5 oz. bar from Sibu and Amazon): This hydrating face and body bar puts forth a rich and creamy lather, and yet it is not in the least bit stripping to the skin. It also works wonders for shaving legs and underarms because of its delectable lather, and its intoxicating citrus aroma is uplifting and invigorating. Purchase Again? I liked this soap a lot, but I have too many bars of soap to purchase any for the foreseeable future!
Baylis & Harding Lemongrass & Ginger Hand Wash ($5.99 for 16.9 oz. from Target). I have said it before, and it bears repeating, that during the pandemic this much hand washing is more enjoyable when I use lovely soap. Everything about this made in the UK hand wash is ultra-luxe– except for the very affordable price tag. It has a lovely rich lather, a delectable lemongrass and ginger scent, and it thoroughly cleans without stripping the skin. Furthermore, their company believes and practices sustainability and their products are cruelty-free and vegan. Purchase Again? I just opened up another bottle, and I will definitely purchase more!

Farmhouse Fresh Maypop Steeped Milk Lotion ( $31.00 for 8 oz. glass bottle from Farmhouse Fresh): is an infused milk that is blended into the lotion, and the result is a rich and creamy moisturizer that leaves the skin soft, smooth, supple, nourished and scented with a delectable passion fruit aroma. While it is very moisturizing, and perfectly suited for dry skin, it does sink in very quickly, and it does so without leaving behind a greasy residue. The aroma, which is the perfect embodiment of summer, is hypnotic and intoxicatingly beautiful. Purchase Again? I have too many body lotions to purchase any for quite a while, but I really did thoroughly enjoy this on!

By Terry Baume de Rose Hand Cream ($50.00 for 75 grams or 2.62 oz. from By TerrySpace NKDermstoreBluemercuryAmazonSaks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale's): If you love high quality delectable rose scented body products, then be prepared to fall madly in love! This is an ultra-luxe, very moisturizing hand cream with the most refined and elegant rose aroma. It has done wonders for my over-washed and over-sanitized hands and cuticles, and it leaves my skin soft, smooth, supple and a little bit luminous. While it is thick and emollient, it is fast absorbing and leaves behind no greasy residue, whatsoever. However, the delectable veil of fragrance is so hypnotic and delightful that I simply can't stop using this treasure! Purchase Again? I have another deluxe sample tube open, and I will reassess after I finish it! To date, this is one of my very favorite hand creams.

L'Occitane Lavender Hand Cream ($24.00 for 2.6 oz.from L'OccitaneSephora and Nordstrom): This light-medium weight hand cream is utterly luxurious in its smooth and creamy texture, and its delightful lavender scent. The formula is fast absorbing and fast-acting– it immediately renders hands soft, supple and ultra-hydrated. The lavender aroma is neither cloying, nor in the least bit pungent. Instead, it leaves a thin veil of scent close to the skin, and it fades away altogether after a couple of hours. I have a tube this in my work bag, and in my purse, and I delight in using it every single day! Purchase Again? YES!!
Vitabrid C¹² Scalp Shampoo ($32.00 for 10 oz. from Vitabrid C¹²): is formulated to improve scalp and hair health by gently cleansing the hair and scalp while moisturizing and infusing them with antioxidant-rich vitamins. It thoroughly and effectively cleanses without stripping the skin and hair, and leaves both moisturized without leaving behind any sort of residue. I noted an increase in the volume of my hair, and it is decidedly softer and smoother after use. I should note that it does have a light, clean aroma, but it is neither cloying, nor in the long-lasting. Purchase Again? I just opened a new bottle!

Vitabrid C¹² Hair Tonic Set ($80.00 for Powder: 0.05 oz/1.5g. and Tonic: 3.7 fl oz/110ml. from Vitabrid C¹²): You simply mix all of the powder into the tonic and give it a good shake before each use. It has a light cooling effect on the scalp and hair appears healthier and fuller after use. After using the tonic and shampoo exclusively for the last few months, I have definitely noticed less hair in my drain and my hair brush. I suspect the combination of a bit less stress overall and these two products have been the reason why. Purchase Again? I just opened a new bottle!

Shu Uemura Essence Absolue Multi-Purpose All-in-Oil Milk Nourishing and Shaping Leave-In Spray ($46.00 for 3.3 oz. from Shu Uemura Art of Hair): an ingenious multitasking spray that makes hair manageable while detangling, controlling frizz, softening, nourishing and hydrating. It can be used on wet or dry hair, and I use it both ways and don't prefer one over the other. It is such a treat for my dry and curly hair, and it never weighs it down or makes it feel greasy. It has a very pleasant warm and creamy aroma that I really like a lot, but it doesn't linger for too long. Purchase Again? I have a fresh bottle waiting to be opened! It is that good!
LAVANILA The Healthy Deodorant ($14.00 for 1.7 oz. from LAVANILA and Ulta): I do prefer to avoid the chemicals in my deodorants, and LAVANILA The Healthy Deodorants have been my daily deodorants since I began using them. They make wonderful healthy deodorants that are effective and smell delectable (though they also make an unscented variant for sensitive skin). Their Vanilla + Water for Peace scent is probably one of my favorites these days! Purchase Again? Definitely! I have a couple of their other scents open right now.
Overall Assessment: I'm not sure that I will be able to top this next month, but if I find lots of nearly empty products, I could. What did you use up, toss out, give away or return in March? Any really winners or duds to report?

Empties November 2020

Press Sample & Purchased (Affiliate Links)

November came and went so fast this year, and yet I managed to finish up a decent pile of products. Here is what I finished:

African Botanics Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish ($75.00 for 3.38 oz./100 ml. from African BotanicsCredo Beauty and Cult Beauty £66.00): Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish is a very deep-cleansing facial exfoliator that effectively and efficiently sweeps away impurities and cleans out clogged pores. It is formulated with a combination of Marula Oil, Baobab Oils and Buchu Plant extracts that are punctuated by Micro-Algae and ultra-fine granules of ancient volcanic minerals. The fine granules, which densely populate this exfoliator, efficiently and effectively unclog pores, and remove dead skin cells, excess oils and impurities. Papaya and Pineapple enzymes help to dissolve dead skin cells, aid in cleaning out the pores, and make them appear reduced in size. Skin is left brightened, deeply cleansed and utterly glowing. In fact, the first time that I used it I noticed that it left my skin feeling as soft and silky smooth as ultra-fine velvet. Only the smallest amount is needed to achieve the desired results for the face, neck and décolleté, and the exfoliating particles are so efficient that you do not need to apply any pressure as you massage it into the skin. Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish Skin neither strips the skin, nor does it deplete vital moisture or hydration. Dull, congested skin gives way to youthful, radiant skin that feels amazing to the touch. Purchase Again? Definitely!

Bodyography AM/PM Moisturizer ($40.00 for 1.7 oz. from Bodyography): This delectable lightweight and fast absorbing moisturizer, which is formulated for day and night use, melts into the skin leaving it deeply moisturized, soft, smooth and supple. It lightly plumps fine lines, brightens dull skin and it has a delightful light fruity aroma. It can be used alone, or if you want extra hydration, it pairs perfectly with Bodyography Coconut Milk Serum. This moisturizer does not contain an SPF, therefore you will need to use a sunscreen as well. Purchase Again? Perhaps one day, but I have lots of open jars of cream to use up before I buy another!

Purchase Again? YES! I am working on a brand new box already!

Patchology Flashpatch Rejuvenating Eye Gels ($15.00 for 5 pack fromNordstromSpace NKBloomingdale'sUltaDermstoreRevolveSkinstore and Bluemercury): These eye gels are biodegradable, cruelty-free and vegan, and they effectively cool and de-puff the delicate area below the eyes. They effectively moisturize, soothe and refresh, and each time I use them I notice that my dark circles are diminished, my fine lines are softened, and that my skin boasts a dewy luminosity. Purchase Again? Once I run out of my other eye gels, I will definitely consider purchasing these.
MALIN+GOETZ Lime Bar Soap ($16.00 for 5 oz. from MALIN+GOETZ and Bloomingdale's): While I have a generous size drawer filled with soaps and body washes, the intoxicatingly delicious, and refreshing aroma of this bar soap is just too good not to use regularly. In addition to its incredibly uplifting and exhilarating scent, this bar boasts a creamy dreamy lather that is non-stripping and residue-free. Additionally, it moisturizes the skin and leaves it silky soft and smooth. I love to build a creamy lather and use it to shave my legs and underarms, and can say without hesitation that I will be purchasing a replacement bar as soon as I finish this one. Purchase Again? Yes!

SENTEURS D’ORIENT Hammam Soap in Jasmine of Arabia ($36.00 for 7.2 oz/205 g. from SENTEURS D'ORIENT and Net-A-Porter): This is the most beautiful soap imaginable. From the gorgeous design of the soap itself to the otherworldly aroma of the creamy, delectable Jasmine used to make this ultra-luxe bar– this is the perfect Jasmine soap in which to luxuriate. The rich and creamy lather gently cleanses the skin without stripping it, while the beautiful aroma delights the senses. This gorgeous soap is suspended on a rope– which allows it to effectively dry out between uses. This is the perfect hostess gift, holiday gift or gift for yourself, and I assure you that the recipient will be thrilled by this gorgeous gem of a soap.  Purchase Again? Absolutely!

SALT By Hendrix Coco-Salt Body Buff ($25.00 for 7.05 oz. from SALT By Hendrix): is a delectable ultra-luxe natural exfoliant, from Australia, that is vegan, cruelty-free and such a treat to use. It effectively exfoliates dead skin cells leaving the skin silky smooth, incredibly soft and supple. It has a very light milky lavender aroma that is calming, and not in the least bit pungent. Furthermore, it rinses clean and doesn't leave the skin, or the bottom of the shower, covered in an oily residue. Purchase Again? I definitely will buy another one of their body scrubs when I need to replace what I have.

L'Occitane Lavender Hand Cream ($22.00 for 2.6 oz.from L'OccitaneSephora and Nordstrom): This light-medium weight hand cream is utterly luxurious in its smooth and creamy texture, and its delightful lavender scent. I definitely will!

Trader Joe's Lemon Kitchen Hand Soap (I think that it is $3.99 for 17 oz. from Trader Joe's): If you love the refreshing scent of lemons, then this affordable hand soap from Trader Joe's is a must-have. Not only does it smell delicious, but it thoroughly cleans without stripping the skin. While called a kitchen soap, it can be used in the bathroom as well. Purchase again? I already purchased several more, and will continue to as long as they make this wonderful soap!
LAVANILA The Healthy Deodorant ($14.00 for 1.7 oz. from LAVANILAUlta, and Thrive Market): Though I have occasionally used mainstream deodorants, I do prefer to avoid the chemicals. LAVANILA makes wonderful healthy deodorants that are effective and smell wonderful (though they also make an unscented variant for sensitive skin). Vanilla + Earth for Balance: "A warm and woody combination of patchouli and sandalwood that enhances focus and concentration." While its description might summon thoughts of a heavy woody scent punctuated by a pungent patchouli, this is a light, sweet and creamy woodsy scent infused with warm florals, and without any detectable notes from the patchouli. It has a depth and yet it isn't in the least bit overpowering. Purchase Again? As long as they make them, I will buy them!

African Botanics Revitalizing Therapy Gel ($65.00 for 2 oz./60ml from African BotanicsCredo Beauty and Net-A-Porter): This is my go-to product whenever I need relief from muscular soreness. lower back pain, and when I desire an overall sense of wellbeing after heavy physical exertion. This miracle gel outranks every ointment that I have ever used post-workout, or for any other aches and pains, and it does so without any silicones, mineral oils, parabens, allergens, phthalates, synthetic fragrances, PEGs or SLSs. Loaded with the highest quality organic ingredients, that are responsibly sourced, this revitalizing gel cools the skin, helps to promote circulation, has potent anti-inflammatory ingredients that reduce swelling, and it hydrates and conditions the skin. The lightweight gel sinks into the skin effortlessly and leaves the skin soft and supple. Unlike many of the ointments, gels and creams that are intended to reduce pain and swelling, and which are loaded with ingredients such as camphor, this  wonderfully restorative gel is a very pleasant amalgam of Mint, Clove, Black and Red Pepper, Clary Sage and Cinnamon Leaf Oil. The sensation is cooling, refreshing and pleasant, and it is neither overpowering, nor does the gentle formula irritate the skin. Purchase Again? YES!

Philip B. Oud Royal Forever Shine Conditioner ($95.00 for 6 oz.from Nordstrom,  Dermstore and Selfridges): This is the embodiment of a luxe conditioner. The ultra emollient formula, coupled with the delectable scent, makes using this conditioner a supremely enjoyable sensory experience. Like its matching shampoo, Philip B. Oud Royal Forever Shine Conditioner boasts the highly innovative and cutting-edge time-released botanical delivery system that imparts hair with unprecedented moisture and shine over a sustained period of time. While one only needs to leave it on for a minute, I prefer to leave it on for 10-20 minutes for deeper hydration. It infuses hair with lasting moisture, glossiness, bounce, and the delectable scent of pure Oud. Purchase Again? At some point, when I can justify this type of splurge!

KMS MOISTREPAIR Conditioner ($23.50 for 8.5 oz.) from KMS Salons nationwide, Look FantasticBeauty ExpertMankindBeauty Expert and HQ Hair): is a lightweight moisturizing conditioner that immediately softens, conditions, detangles, fights frizz, improves elasticity, and greatly enhances manageability. Furthermore, it leaves behind no greasy residue and does not weigh hair down. Purchase Again? I will consider it the next time I need to buy more conditioner (which will be quite a while!)

Alora Ambiance Rosa Reed Diffuser ($60.00 for 8 oz. Reed Diffuser and $90.00 for 16 oz. from the official Beautyhabit Amazon Store): Described as. "A classic floral in every sense of the word, Rosa’s blend of rose essence with a hint of musk makes this romantic fragrance a valuable addition to any room." If you love the scent of a complex rose, then this reed diffuser is made with you in mind. The aroma fills the room with its essence without ever imposing itself of people with sensitive noses! Purchase Again? Absolutely!

Alora Ambiance Isola Reed Diffuser ($60.00 for 8 oz. Reed Diffuser and $90.00 for 16 oz. from the official Beautyhabit Amazon Store): This is Alora's most popular fragrance for good reason, is a delectable floral mix of gardenia, tuberose and fig. It is a light and airy fragrance without being too sweet, and it isn't in the least bit pungent. The fragrance might be likened to the experience of walking through a fragrant garden during a warm summer breeze– it is at once ethereal and deeply pleasurable. Purchase Again? No question!
Overall Assessment: I somehow thought that I would use up a few more products in November, but I didn't get through a lot of my half empty products. What did you use up, toss out, give away or return in November? Any great, or awful, products to report?

Empties October 2020

Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

It is really hard to believe that October is almost over, and that we are entering the holiday season. You can see that I finished very little in the way of skincare, or body care, and I think that I was so bogged down at work that there didn't seem to be enough hours in the day to take that extra bit of time. I did, however, burn candles and use room sprays and essential oils to help me relax after I finished working for the day. Here is what I used up in October:

Vintner's Daughter Active Botanical Serum For Face ($195.00 for  30 ml/ 1 oz. from Space NK and Cult Beauty (210.00€): This lightweight and fast absorbing golden elixir boasts a delectable warm and earthy aroma from which one can detect the Rose Damascena Absolute, Jasminum Grandiflorum Flower and a fusion of the remaining essential oils. The intoxicating aromatherapeutic experience delights and calms the senses while it quiets the mind. I find that I slow down and inhale deeply as I massage in into my skin, and that any residual stress that I may have been experiencing just melts away. This ritual is utterly relaxing, and it heightens the sensory experience of using this luxe oil. This serum significantly bolsters radiance and it leaves skin silky smooth, soft and supple. I note a distinct brightening and evening of my skin tone, a lifting and softening on my fine lines, and an undeniable increase in the long term hydration of my skin. Repurchase? I just opened a new bottle!

Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser ($12.00 for 1 oz., $37.00 for 4 oz and $45.00 for 6.76 oz from SukiDermstoreAmazonBirchboxiHerb and SkinStore): I am madly in love with this cleanser and years ago it was my only daily cleanser. Then I started LSBB and began using a far wider range of products and somehow forgot about who much I loved this gem of an exfoliating facial cleanser. The lovely formula, which has the intoxicating scent of organic lemongrass extract, uses natural sugar to exfoliate the dead skin cells leaving your skin soft and silky smooth. I find it non-stripping and non-drying for my normal/combination skin, but if you have dry skin you would likely want to use it less often. I like to activate the light lather in my hands, which also breaks down some of the sugar, then with the lightest touch I massage it into my skin and rinse thoroughly. I use it a few times a week, and I always look forward to it since it is such a delectable treat to the skin and the senses. Repurchase? I already purchased a full-size jar!

Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks ($70.00 for 20 discs from Colbert MDDermstore, Olivela and Amazon): I have regularly used various types of facial exfoliating pads for many years, and have to confess that my experience with Colbert MD Intensify Facial Disks was a real game changer for me all of those years ago.

Purchase Again? I recently opened a new box, and will definitely purchase another after!

SENTEURS D'ORIENT Hammam Soap in Oriental Gardenia ($36.00 for 7.2 oz. from and Net-A-Porter): Simply put, this is the most beautiful soap imaginable. From the gorgeous design of the soap itself to the otherworldly aroma of the gardenia used to make this ultra-luxe bar– this is the most delectable soap in which to luxuriate. The rich and creamy lather gently cleanses the skin without stripping it, while the beautiful aroma delights the senses. I love that this soap is on a rope– since hanging it allows it to dry out between uses. It smells like the embodiment of gardenia in a warm summer breeze, and I have used it nearly every single day since opening it. If you love the smell of gardenia, you will become as obsessed with this soap as I have. Repurchase? I have another one of their soaps in another scent that I will open soon!

Farmhouse Fresh Oatmeal Goats Milk Soap ($12.50 for 4.5 oz. from Farmhouse Fresh): Farmhouse Fresh Oatmeal Goats Milk Soap features goats milk from California and certified organic oats from Kansas. This rich, emollient and creamy goats milk soap has a wonderful oatmeal aroma, and it's filled with vitamins A and B12, coconut, rice bran, olive oil and buttery fats that nourish and hydrate the skin without ever stripping it. Furthermore, the oatmeal is very gentle on sensitive skin, and I like to use the lather to shave because it is so rich and creamy. There are actual pieces of oatmeal throughout the soap that facilitates light exfoliation. Repurchase? Probably at some point, but I have a drawer filled with soaps that I need to use first.

Dove White Beauty Bar ($2.99-$12.99 for 2-14 bar packs from Target and Walgreens): This gentle, creamy cleansing bar contains ¼ moisturizing cream that leaves skin soft smooth and very clean. Repurchase? Most definitely! This is a staple for my family!

kms California MOIST REPAIR  Leave-In Conditioner ($19.00 from select salons) This deeply penetrates hair and helps detangle, moisturize and fights frizz. I simply spray it on wet or dry hair for added manageability and moisture. The formula is lightweight, the results are immediate, and the effects are long-lasting. Repurchase? I think that I have another bottle in a cabinet!

RITUALS Pure Hammam Shampoo: If you are looking for a color safe volumizing shampoo that gives hair lots of shine, then look no further. Hair is thoroughly cleansed, but never stripped, and the refreshing scent of Eucalyptus is uplifting, but not overpowering. A lovely shampoo, indeed! Repurchase? I don't think that they make this particular shampoo anymore, sadly!
Phytocéane COSTA RICA Moisturizing Body Water's ($48.00 for 100ml. from  can be purchased in select spas and LeSpa USA): This is a delectable hydrating body spray that smells like the embodiment of summer in a bottle. Inspired by the beauty of Costa Rica, this elixir is a lightweight and moisturizing body tonic that has a tropical scent that is punctuated by the aromas of peach, apple, melon and pineapple blended with jasmine, cedar and musk. The aroma sits close to the skin, and it is neither overpowering, nor is it in the least bit cloying. Repurchase? Maybe at some point, but it is more of a summer product.
Artnaturals Artisan Oil Essential 8 Set ($20.00 from Artnaturals): Artnaturals has a large selection of essential oils, but this set of 8 includes: Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Lavender, Lemongrass, Peppermint, Rosemary, Sweet Orange, and Tea Tree. Repurchase? I love their essential oils and I have a lot to use before purchasing replacements.

Artnaturals Signature Essential Oil Rollerball Collection ($29.00 from Artnaturals): If you have someone on your list who loves essential oils, then this set of 8 from Artnaturals is sure to delight them. Each of the essential oil signature blends is formulated in a base of nourishing Jojoba Oil, and conveniently has a rollerball applicator to avoid spills, and to offer easy application. Signature Zen is formulated to relax your body and elevate your mind. Repurchase? Perhaps at some point, but I have lots of essential oils to use up first.
RITUALS The Ritual of Dao Bed & Body Mist: Oh how I love this spray! While it is quite lovely on the skin, I tend to use it to spray my pillows and bedding, and what a wonder it is! The wonderful aroma is a calming light scent that defies a precise description. It is soothing and warm punctuated by the White Lotus, and its delicate aroma promotes relaxation, and makes the bedroom smell heavenly. Repurchase? I would, but I think that it has been discontinued. I highly recommend their products, though!

Gurunanda Essential Oils Room Sprays : These natural room sprays, filled with essential oils, smell amazing, and thankfully they lack the chemical smell of conventional room sprays. They feature a 360-degree, continuous stream of spray without any dripping or any sort of mess. Repurchase? I went looking to repurchase them, but I think that they may have been discontinued!
Malin + Goetz Mojito Votive Candle ($20.00 each from Malin+Goetz): This is a lovely mojito candle that smells delectable and burns for quite a long time. Repurchase? I will consider it once I have used up my collection of candles!

Farmhouse Fresh Whoopie Cream Soy Blend Candle ($35.00 for 11 oz candle with a wooden lid from Farmhouse Fresh): I only had the travel size of this delicious candle, which came in a holiday set, but thankfully they still make them in a full size version with a lovely wooden lid. Repurchase? More than likely.

Lavanila The Healthy Candle Pure Vanilla ($27.99 from Amazon): This clean-burning candle has the most delectable and creamy vanilla aroma that is so soothing and calming! Repurchase? Definitely!

Overall Assessment: I am hoping that I am able to work a little less and pamper myself a little more in November. I definitely didn't mask or exfoliate nearly as often, and I can see and feel the difference!

What did you use up, toss out, give away or return in October? Any hits or misses worth reporting? DO tell!
