Westman Atelier Spot Check Brush Review

Purchased (Affiliate Links)

Westman Atelier Spot Check Brush is a magic wand, and that is not an exaggeration! This was my final Westman Atelier brush purchase, and now I have the entire set of brushes. These brushes were, without question, a sizable splurge, but this particular brush was actually quite affordable at $38.00.

This small and pointed brush head was conceived to offer spot coverage for blemishes, discoloration (hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation), broken capillaries, redness, dark circles and anything else that you wish to deemphasize.

It effortlessly and deftly navigates the smallest areas of the face with precision, and it offers a perfected version of your own skin. The synthetic nylon bristles are densely packed, and firm enough to effectively apply foundation or concealer, but not so firm as to be rough against the skin. The bristles themselves are silky soft and gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin. The short handle, coupled with its perfect weight, makes this a very efficient tool. I have washed it numerous times, and it has not shed a single bristle.

Gucci posits that she uses a "Pointillist Concealer Technique" wherein she dips the brush into her Vital Skin Foundation, and then taps three times so that there are no visible edges to the spot that she has sought to conceal. It is a brilliant method, and it is easy and foolproof.
According to Westman Atelier,

Targeted coverage just where you need it. Inspired by Gucci Westman's spot check method for flawless skin, this pointed brush tip conceals imperfections and pigmentation, making it an ideal companion to Vital Skin Foundation.

Luxurious and durable, each brush is handmade in Japan by the most prestigious brush maker in the world using cruelty free, super soft nylon fibers and sustainably sourced birch. Thoughtfully designed shorter handles make for easy, effortless application. Cruelty-Free.
Features:

Artisan Design: Handmade in Kumano, Japan using traditional techniques from the most prestigious brush maker in the world.

Lacquered Handles: Crafted with the finest sustainable hardwood birch from a Forest Stewardship Council certified forest in Eastern Europe.

High Performance: Luxurious and durable. Finely tapered nylon fibers feel ultra-smooth with optimal density, softness and function.

Their brush-making process is cruelty-free.
Gucci's Notes:

This little brush is my secret for creating the absolute best and most beautiful skin. It's always, always in my kit.

Dip the Spot Check Brush into your Vital Skin Foundation stick and dab anywhere you need precise coverage, using a light stippling motion to layer and build.

For flat red marks and spots, start with a lighter shade of Vital Skin Foundation to neutralize pinkish tones, then follow with a slightly deeper shade on top for a true second skin effect. To diffuse brown spots or raised bumps, skip the lighter shade and go straight for the slightly deeper shade.

Finish by using a fingertip to gently 'tap, tap, tap' on top of the area with a fingertip. This helps Vital Skin settle seamlessly into skin.

A dab of translucent powder, dabbed directly on top of the spot with a featherlight motion, helps coverage last throughout the day.
The flat surface area effortlessly picks up and deposits foundation and concealer.
This brush is perfectly shaped, and boasts dense, and yet remarkably soft bristles.
You can see that the tip is pointed to get into tight spots and to cover very small spots efficiently.
The nylon bristles are soft, and yet extraordinarily effective and efficient.
"Handmade in Kumano, Japan using traditional techniques from the most prestigious brush maker in the world. The lacquered handles are crafted with the finest sustainable hardwood birch from a Forest Stewardship Council certified forest in Eastern Europe."
The brush is just a little over 4 1/2" in length

Westman Atelier Powder Brush Review

Purchased (Affiliate Links)

The Westman Atelier Powder Brush is the one brush from Gucci Westman's collection that I wasn't sure that I would like, let alone buy. I thought that the bristles might be too long and fluffy for blush application, and better suited for bronzer (which I do not wear). I thought that it looked lovely, but that it simply wasn't a good fit for me. However, the more that I used all of my Westman Atelier brushes, the more curious I became about the Powder Brush. I also watched a few videos in which the ever-charming Gucci Westman used this brush, and I began thinking that it might be a good fit for me after all.

While the bristles are a bit longer and fluffier, as I had observed, it became clear after a single use that this was an extraordinary, and covet-worthy, brush for the perfect application of blush. The synthetic vegan, and cruelty-free, bristles pick up just enough blush for the perfect natural flushed look, but not too much to require excessive blending. You can certainly add more blush, but I have found it unnecessary. This brush is pure magic, and it is unbelievably soft and gentle as it glides across the face.

The shorter, and beautifully balanced, handle offers maximum control as one applies powder products to the face. This brush is unmitigated perfection.

According to Westman Atelier,

Universal powder brush for precise applications. Oval brush head picks up the perfect amount of product while the bristles offer the right density and softness for an even deposit of color. Use with Beauty Butter Powder Bronzer for an authentically warm, beachy flush of color

Features:

- Lacquered Handles: Crafted with the finest sustainable hardwood birch from a Forest Stewardship Council certified forest in Eastern Europe.

- High Performance: Luxurious and durable. Cruelty-free nylon fibers feel ultra-smooth with optimal density, softness and function.

- Cruelty-free brush-making process.

Gucci's Notes:

Brushes are my most important tools. I think of them as an extension of myself, and it’s an absolute luxury to work with an extraordinary brush.

Sweep the brush in your compact to pick up product, tap once or twice, then apply under the eye and across cheekbones to gauge your desired effect. As always, start slow and build. Powder glides on for a buildable and blotch-free finish.

Made with cruelty-free, super soft nylon fibers.
I have washed this brush numerous times already, and it has not shed a single fiber.

Westman Atelier Foundation Brush Review

Purchased (Affiliate Links)

At this point, I think that it has become infinitely clear that I am thoroughly obsessed with the eco-luxe Westman Atelier makeup brushes. I am one brush away from having purchased all of them (one is en route, leaving me just one to purchase at some point in the not too distant future). They are expensive luxury Japanese handcrafted brushes that are vegan, and they are of extraordinary quality. I own many Hakuhodo, and Hakuhodo-made, brushes, and these lack nothing but animal hair. The bristles are extraordinarily soft, but not to the extent that they lack efficacy. The shorter sustainably procured wooden handles offer maximum control and maneuverability, and each brush is beautifully balanced and comfortable to hold.
Westman Atelier Foundation Brush is a luxurious and compact paddle-shaped foundation brush that is effective and offers seamless application and blending, and it boasts a natural and streak-free finish. In the spirit of full disclosure, I have had little interest in paddle-shaped foundation brushes, and yet Gucci Westman has proven to be the exception with her foundation brush. After having purchased a few of her brushes, I realized that her Foundation Brush was probably by far superior to the paddle brushes that I had tried before, and I was right about that. I watched a few of her videos, and her techniques in makeup application, as a veteran makeup artist, made them educational, informative and interesting. That is to say nothing of the extent to which she is charming, humble and personable.
This brush is small enough that it can easily navigate tight spaces on the face, and its shape lends itself to a kind of versatility in application techniques. While the flat sides of the paddle effortlessly move across the larger planes of the face, the tip fits perfectly around the nose and into the corners of the eyes. Furthermore, the soft nylon bristles do not absorb, and therefore waste, foundation. It works beautifully with both cream and liquid formulas, and I have tried it with a wide assortment of stick and liquid foundations, and it works exceptionally well. The final finish is natural and simply looks like my skin perfected, and not as though I am wearing makeup (or worse yet, that makeup is wearing me). At some point I definitely want to try Gucci's foundation, but until then I am thoroughly enjoying her brush with my foundations.

According to Westman Atelier,

Paddle foundation brush with tapered, flat bristles that will quickly become your go-to for precise applications, correcting imperfections and achieving a naturally polished finish. Blends and smooths Vital Skin Foundation Stick for a fresh and dimensional look

Gucci's Notes:

Using a gentle sweeping motion, work close to the skin to blend and smooth your Vital Skin Foundation Stick. Ideal for even, quick applications of cream makeup.

Westman Atelier Eye Shadow II Brush Review

Purchased (Affiliate Links)

Westman Atelier Eye Shadow II Brush is the most recent ultra-luxe eco-friendly, and cruelty-free brush that I purchased from this extraordinary brand. Celebrated makeup artist, Gucci Westman, really outdid herself with her thoughtful range of vegan makeup brushes, and neither the efficacy, nor the tactile effects are in any way diminished when one compares these synthetic bristles to natural hair brushes. These brushes are handcrafted in Kumano, Japan, and they are a revelation in high quality sustainably made luxury makeup brushes.

While this brush is exquisite for seamless blending, it also does an exemplary job applying cream, liquid and powder shadows. While the gently rounded shape lends itself to blending, the fluffy bristles are firm enough to pick up and deposit shadows with precision and efficacy. The short brush allows for maximum control and maneuverability, and the well-balanced handle and ferrule make this ergonomic masterpiece very comfortable in the hand. I have used this brush every single day since it arrived, and after multiple washes it has not shed a single bristle. This is the fifth brush that I have purchased from Westman Atelier (I just ordered the Westman Atelier Lip Brush that will be arriving shortly), and I am thoroughly impressed by each one of them.

According to Westman Atelier,

Sumptuous fluffy bristles and a soft rounded shape make this eye shadow brush a blending essential. Diffuses and refines color for a seamless finishIdeal for working in short strokes to diffuse shadow, soften edges, and give rich shades an easy lived-in look.

Gucci's Notes: "Brushes are my most important tool. For the eyes, I focused on two favorites in my kit: A flat tapered brush that makes color glide on flawlessly and a rounder, denser one for the most beautiful blend.

Gucci Westman's Tip: Select "a cool taupe or sheer brown shadow that's one to two shades deeper than your natural skin tone creates an instant eye contouring effect when blended into the crease of the lid."

Features:

- Made with cruelty-free, super soft nylon fibers.

Overall Assessment: This is unquestionably one of the very best eyeshadow brushes that I own. If it wasn't so expensive, I would buy a backup to use while the other one is being washed. It's that good! A+

Westman Atelier Eye Shadow I Brush Review

Purchased (Affiliate Links)

Westman Atelier Eye Shadow I Brush is my latest splurge from this ultra-luxe brand, and I am utterly smitten. Westman Atelier is a cruelty-free eco-luxe line, from celebrity makeup artist Gucci Westman, that offers experiential makeup brushes that are handcrafted in Japan. The luxurious nylon fibers are soft, without sacrificing efficacy, and the sustainable hardwood birch handles are from a Forest Stewardship Council certified forest in Eastern Europe. Each brush is perfectly balanced, boasting shorter handles for ease of use, and they are very comfortable in the hand.

Westman Atelier Eye Shadow I Brush works exceptionally well for cream, liquid and powder shadows alike, and it picks up, deposits and blends beautifully, and it does so without absorbing your shadows. The tapered tip of the brush allows one to smudge shadow into the lashline, and apply lighter shadows to the inner corners of the eyes.

The flat surface of the brush deposits and spreads shadow across the lid perfectly, and it blends without any streakiness. It truly is an innovative multipurpose brush that is versatile and a true pleasure to use. Since I purchased it, I have been reaching for it every single day that I wear makeup, and this workhorse of a brush is now one of my favorite purchases this year. I have washed it numerous times and it retains it shape perfectly, and it has not shed a single bristle.
