I received a heartfelt request, from a very longtime reader, to feature eco-friendly, healthy natural remedies, and chemical-free products to help her transition away from so many chemical-laden products. Not only does it effectively remove excessive unwanted bacteria from your mouth, which also freshens breath, but the results are immediately noticeable.

As the new year approaches, and many of you pledge to green-up your beauty routines, I thought that it would be fruitful to share a few of my favorite affordable skin, body and hair care finds. Most can be found at drugstores and markets like Whole Foods, and they contain far fewer chemical compounds than your average drugstore and department store brands.

I have been using ALAFFIA products for years, and always have lots of their fantastic products in rotation. Their lotions are rich and very moisturizing, and are perfect for the cold months of the year. The Orange Vanilla scent of this particular lotion is so delicious that I constantly catch myself smelling my hands. It leaves skin soft and supple, and the hydration lasts all day long. It is also works wonders on dry hands and cuticles.

If you seek a very thick and rich hand cream, this is definitely a viable option. It is has the thickness of a cream, rather than a thinner lotion, and it has a slightly waxy texture that coats and protects badly chapped hands and cuticles. It also does a phenomenal job moisturizing and healing dry, chapped and calloused feet. I like to massage it into my feet at night and then wear fluffy cotton socks, and in the morning my feet are so soft and moisturized.

Pure Shea Butter is an absolute essential in my household. It is easy to find, it's affordable, and it is so healthy and nourishing for the skin. It soothes and nourishes dry skin, and it can be used as a really effective lip balm. Earth's Care She Butter, like the rest of their products that I have tried, is high quality, wonderful to use, and affordable.

Extracted from the nut of the African Shea Tree (Butyrospermum Parkii), shea butter is prized for its moisturizing and revitalizing properties.
