Shu Uemura Face Contour Palette in 01 Sweet Contour | Review and Swatches

Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

Shu Uemura Face Contour Palette in 01 Sweet Contour is a gorgeous finely-milled powder duo that features a highlighter shade and a sculpting shade that can also be used as a bronzer. Sweet Contour is intended for "light, pink skin tones" which is perfect for my pale-medium cool-toned light olive complexion. The highlighting shade is a very pale, cool-toned pink that subtly highlights the skin without looking like a glitter-fest, but instead adds a touch of luminosity. The sculpting shade, which is described as a pinkish brown, is a cool toned brown that perfectly accompanies the highlighter shade. They are housed in a chic, and study, white compact that is refillable.

According to Shu Uemura,

All-in-one face palette including a highlighter and a shading color for a natural 3D effect.

The contouring duo gives you the power to instantly highlight, define and give dimension to your face and enhance your natural beauty traits.

The contour shade creates a more sculpted yet natural look, and the highlight shade accentuates the facial features you want to bring out.
Available in three set of shades carefully selected for light to medium skin tones:
  • Sweet Contour (shown): light pink and a pinkish brown (for light, pink skin tones).
  • Natural Contour: light yellow and a yellowish brown (for light, yellow skin tones).
  • Stylish Contour: pure white and a deep brown (for light to medium skin tones).
Comes in a custom palette that can fit up to 2 refills.
Shu Uemura Blender Sponge ($15.00 from Shu Uemura USA and C$18.00 from Shu Uemura Canada): For more precision and easy-blending, Shu Uemura suggests applying the contouring shades with their blender sponge. I actually find that it is also perfect for the application of the highlighter shade as well as the darker shade. The small teardrop shape of the sponge enables you to precisely define, contour and highlight from the largest to the smallest areas of the face. The sponge, itself, is about half the size of regular sponges that are used for the application of foundation, and therefore it's perfectly suited for applying this contour palette.
According to Shu Uemura,

Due to the unique shape of the sponge, it's easy to precisely apply color from a contour palette using the point or surface for definition and use the curvy surface to blend the dark shading color in a natural way.

Overall Assessment: This is such a pretty palette, and definitely worthy of your consideration if you are seeking a subtle, high quality contour palette.

$32.00 for 2 x 4g/0.14 oz. from Shu Uemura USA and C$55.00 from Shu Uemura Canada (Affiliate Links).

Strobing with Colbert MD and LORAC Cosmetics

Finally, the process used to achieve that always coveted Hollywood glow, seen on Jennifer Lopez and the Kardashians, has a technical term: STROBING. This buzzed-about makeup trend, which uses highlighting to focus attention on your best features, can be intimidating to beginners – too much glitter, too greasy, etc.

However, Colbert MD and LORAC Cosmetics both offer fool-proof products to make strobing easy for makeup gurus at every skill set:

Colbert MD Illumino Oil ($140.00. Reviewed here): The light-weight, anti-aging face oil is made with Retinol and Vitamin C to give skin a soft glow. Illumino Oil can be used solo, or as an ideal base product – apply to the entire face, or just along the cheek and orbital bones for a subtle, simple sheen. www.colbertmd.com
LORAC Cosmetics Contour Palette & Custom Brush ($45.00): The new (launched last month!) palette was originally created for contouring, but with its beige, yellow and shimmer pots, the on-trend artistry tool kit has quickly become an ultimate strobing go-to! www.loraccosmetics.com
