Affiliate Links

Derma E is one of my favorite affordable eco-friendly, and cruelty-free, brands. Their products are solid performers, they do what they promise and they are very pleasant to use. They are currently offering 20% Off their Hydrating Collection from March 30 - April 1st at 10:00AM. Use Code: HYD20.

Two of my very favorite products from this collection are their Hydrating Night Cream and Hydrating Eye Cream (Reviewed HERE). The prices are great even without a discount, but the extra 20% off makes this a great deal.

Mustela Multi-Sensory Bubble Bath to Pamper Yourself During These Stressful Times

 Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

Mustela is a wonderful skincare brand for babies and mothers, but you neither have to be a baby, nor the mother of a baby to love their nourishing products.

Their Multi-Sensory Bubble Bath has been one of my most beloved and most reach-for pampering products during this scary time of social-distancing, and during the recent stay-at-home mandate. Additionally, I managed to catch a miserable head cold, and taking a nice hot bubble bath has been one of my few pleasures while having a bug.

This bubble bath is super hydrating and it very gentle on even the most sensitive skin. My skin is left clean, soft, smooth and pampered. It has a light and clean aroma that is very pleasant and relaxing, but it is not overwhelming in the least bit.
According to Mustela,

Foaming bubbles make bath time therapeutic and fun and while protecting and hydrating skin. Make bath time therapeutic and fun for your little one with Mustela's Multi-Sensory Bubble Bath. Your baby will love splashing in the foaming bubbles while getting clean. Our biodegradable baby bubble bath formula safely and gently cleanses your baby's skin.

Composed of 88% plant-based ingredients including marine extracts to help maintain the skin's water balance, cornflower extract to soften skin, and our signature Avocado Perseose to help protect and hydrate.

MARCH EMPTIES 2020

Press Samples & Purchased (Affiliate Links)

This month is a bit unusual for me because all nine of the products that I finished up were from my shower, and that is a first! Of the nine products, six were types of exfoliators. I had not intended for this to happen, but it just so happened that I had a lot of almost used up exfoliators in my shower that needed to be finished before opening new tubes and jars.
Haircare
KORRES Almond and Linseed Mask: This nourishing hair treatment mask is formulated to penetrate dry, damaged hair, and to add much needed moisture to unruly tresses. Hair is left soft, hydrated, frizz-free and shiny. Purchase Again? I would, but I think that it may have been discontinued. It is no longer available on the Sephora or Korres websites.

Giovanni 2chic Brazilian Keratin & Argan Oil Ultra-Sleek Shampoo ($9.95 for 8.5 oz. from Walmart): This shampoo, which is color-safe, neither strips the hair, nor does it leave behind an oily residue. Instead, it works overtime in its ability smooth unruly hair, fight frizz and add shine. It has a delicious, warm and creamy nutty aroma. Purchase Again? I like it a lot, but I have so many other shampoos to use, including a few others from Giovanni, that it will be a while before I purchase more shampoo.

Christophe Robin Purifying Scalp Scrub with Sea Salt ($53.00 for 8.33 oz. from Sephora): I have had a few sample jars of this purifying scalp scrub, and I am utterly obsessed with it. It cleans and exfoliates the scalp and hair, but without drying or stripping. It has a light lavender scent, but it is barely noticeable. According to Christophe Robin, it is: "a scalp exfoliator and shampoo that cleanses, removes buildup, and soothes sensitive, flaky, and oily scalps." It does precisely what it claims, and its dense and creamy ultra-luxe lather makes it a joy to use. Purchase Again? ABSOLUTELY!
Skincare
Derma E Purifying Gel Cleanser with Marine Algae and Activated Charcoal ($15.50 for 6 oz. from derma e): This dark gray, charcoal-laden, lathering cleanser effectively draws out impurities and deeply cleans the skin without stripping it. It refreshes the skin and hydrates, and leaves skin soft and supple. This is an ideal daily cleanser for people with combination to oily skin, and those who battle breakouts. It can also be used as needed by people who periodically want to draw out impurities, I don't think that it is ideally suited for dryer skin types. Purchase Again? I already have another tube!

Scalisi Skincare Cleanser and Exfoliator: is an utterly superb 2 in 1 cleanser and exfoliator! The gentle and smooth microbeads are suspended in a clear non-foaming gel that moisturizes and softens the skin while effortlessly lifting dead skin cells. Skin is left soft, supple, hydrated and luminous. It is gentle enough that it can actually be used daily. Purchase Again? I have a new tube that I just opened! I would buy it again, but I think that it might have been discontinued. It is no longer on their website.

Trufora Triple Action Exfoliator ($45.00 for 2 oz. from Trufora): This is a really effective fine grit exfoliator that is gentle and non-irritating. It left my skin incredibly soft and smooth without stripping to drying. Purchase Again? I have a lot of open jars and tubes of exfoliators, but I would definitely consider repurchasing this once I make a dent in my stash.

PUR Joystick Exfoliating Deep Pore Cleanser ($26.00 from PUR Cosmetics and Ulta): PUR Joystick Exfoliating Deep-Pore Cleanser has proven to be one of my favorite skincare products in my travel bag. It is so easy to use, easy to travel with and it delivers extraordinary results. You simply wet your face and then gently massage this stick over your face. It forms a super creamy lather, has the perfect amount of exfoliating particles and once you rinse your skin you will be so happy by the extent to which it leaves skin soft, clean and exfoliated. Given that it is a solid stick, you don't have to worry about spillage in your bag– making it a perfect travel companion. Purchase Again? I love this stuff, and would definitely buy it again.
Body Care
Dove Pink Beauty Bar ($2.99-$12.99 for 2-14 bar packs from Target and Walgreens): This creamy cleanser contains ¼ moisturizing cream to help make skin soft, smooth and hydrated. It doesn't strip skin in the least, nor does it leave it taut. Purchase Again? YES! I have many extra bars!

SOL de Janeiro Brazilian Bod Buff ($25.00 for 5.41 oz. from Sol de JaneiroSephorab-glowingRevolveDermstore and Cult Beauty): is a 2-in-1 exfoliating body mask and scrub that is formulated to detoxify and exfoliate the skin and leave it unbelievably soft and smooth. It has a sweet aroma, which is described as an "addictive signature Cheirosa ’62 fragrance of pistachio and salted caramel"– that is utterly delicious. You can either use it as a regular exfoliator in the shower, or you can apply it to dry skin as a mask and then hop in the shower and reactivate it as a body scrub. Either way skin is left unmistakably soft, supple, smooth and luminous. Purchase Again? Oh yes, definitely!
Overall Assessment: There you have it, the sum total of what I finished this month, and I posted it a little early because I know that I won't finish anything more up in the last few days of March. What did you use up or toss out in March? Any real duds or winners to report?

Is All of This Hand-Washing Leaving Your Hands Dry and Chapped?

Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

CeraVe Moistuizers, which is a fragrance-free brand developed with dermatologists, is a perfect choice for people who have sensitive skin, and who avoid fragrances in their skincare products. Their lotions and creams a very moisturizing, and their sunscreens are quite effective. Additionally, when my skin becomes reactive and irritated because of the products that I am testing, I routinely reach for CeraVe to provide moisture without further irritating my skin.

The sheer number of times that I wash my hands every single day, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, has left my hands dry and often quite chapped. I, therefore, have put aside my favorite fragranced creams and lotions in favor of rich, emollient and fragrance-free creams to nourish, protect and heal my very dry hands. Lately, I have been reaching for CeraVe Moisturizing Cream because it is thick, rich, emollient, super moisturizing and it heals dry skin effectively and efficiently. You might want to try using fragrance-free lotions and creams, if your hands are dry and chapped. This will help you avoid further irritating that vulnerable skin, and if you don't have any fragrance-free lotions or creams, then this one is worth considering.

According to CeraVe,

A compromised skin barrier can lead to dryness and itching—and aggravate skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. A moisturizing cream can help reinforce the skin barrier with hydrating ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, or a ceramide cream that replenishes essential skin barrier components.

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream acts as both by effectively hydrating as it helps restore the skin’s protective barrier. Developed with dermatologists and ideal for dry and very dry skin on the face and body, this rich, non-greasy, fast-absorbing moisturizing cream features patented MVE Delivery Technology to release a steady stream of hyaluronic acid and three essential ceramides throughout the day and night. Suitable for sensitive skin, this oil-free and fragrance-free ceramide cream also helps the skin hold on to moisture while improving its look and feel.

Features:
- Suitable for dry and very dry skin on the face and body.
- MVE Technology: This patented delivery system continually releases moisturizing ingredients for 24-hour hydration.
- Ceramides: Essential for healthy skin, ceramides help restore and maintain the skin’s natural barrier
Hyaluronic acid: This ingredient attracts hydration to the skin’s surface and helps the skin retain moisture.
- Non-comedogenic, oil-free, hypoallergenic, fragrance-free and suitable for sensitive skin.
- Developed with dermatologists.

Ingrediens: Purified Water, Glycerin, Cetareth-20 and Cetearyl Alcohol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Petrolatum, Dimethicone, Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramide 1, Ceramide 3, Ceramide 6-II, Cholesterol, Phytosphingosine, Potassium Phosphate, Dipotassium Phosphate, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum.
Overall Assessment: This is an affordable solid performer, and I plan to buy another jar as soon as this one is empty!

Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum

 Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum is an antioxidant-rich intensely hydrating serum that brightens the complexion. Hyaluronic Acid binds and retains hydration and plumps fine lines, while the stabilized Vitamin C brightens the complexion, and over time it helps to fade age spots and sun damage. It is a very lightweight and fast absorbing serum that leaves the skin soft, smooth, supple, hydrated and radiant. I have used it for a little less than a month, and while I do not have much discoloration (sun damage), I do have one spot on my face, but I have not used this long enough to see whether or not it will help to fade the slight discoloration of that one little spot. To be fair, the spot is very faint to begin with, but it is slightly more pigmented than the rest of my face. It has a light citrus aroma, but it is barely-there and it fades very quickly.
According to Derma E,

Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum beautifully renews the appearance of your skin. Derma E uses a stabilized form of vitamin C that is less likely to degrade than unstabilized vitamin C before being absorbed by the skin, so it works better for you. By combining this powerful antioxidant with other potent ingredients, this is the best face serum to use if you want a brighter, more youthful-looking complexion. This serum intensely moisturizing formula boosts hydration. Its key ingredients which consist of: antioxidants to guard against harmful UV rays and other environmental stresses, and vitamin C to brighten the appearance of your skin while retexturizing your complexion, encourage collagen health. The formulation has strong anti-aging properties, working to diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and age spots.

Benefits:
- 100% Vegan
- Cruelty-free
- Recyclable & wind energy certified
- Formulated without GMOs, gluten, or soy

Directions: Apply onto clean face and neck. Use in the morning and evening alone or in combination with your favorite moisturizer.

Ingredients: Purified Water, Glycerin (Vegetable Derived), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C, Stay-C 50), Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid), Organic Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract*, Microcrystalline Cellulose (Plant Derived), Cellulose Gum (Plant Derived), Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide (Vegetable Derived), Polymnia Sonchifolia (Yacon) Root Juice, Maltodextrin, Lactobacillus (Probiotic), Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Fruit Oil, Organic Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Extract *, Allantoin, Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (Plant Derived), Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Citrate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Natural Fragrance Oils.
Overall Assessment: If you have been seeking an affordable and effective vegan and cruelty-free Vitamin C serum, then Derma E Vitamin C Concentrated Serum is definitely worth trying.

Vitabrid C¹² Daily-C Balancing Cleansing Balm Melt Away Sorbet

 Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

During these very trying times, I am doing my best to  keep calm and stay productive. I am trying to remember to take care of myself, and while I would hardly claim that giving myself facials is by any means the most important thing to do, I will say that periodically slowing down to pamper myself is helping to center and calm me. As a Californian, I am among the citizens mandated to stay-at-home, and I am taking this very seriously and adhering to this mandate. It is, however, trying at times because one can begin to feel a bit like a goldfish swimming in circles. Therefore, I am trying to stay calm, be creative and get vital updates without allowing myself to live in a place of perpetual upset and panic. How are you coping? What are your strategies? I am sending you love and wishes of good health.

I thought that I would review a wonderful new product from Vitabrid for you that is worthy of consideration the next time you need, or want, to try a fantastic cleansing balm.
Vitabrid C¹² Daily-C Balancing Cleansing Balm Melt Away Sorbet is a balancing cleansing balm that can be used alone, or as the first-step in a two-step cleansing ritual. I personally prefer to use cleansing balms as a first-step in a two-step process because oil-based cleansers have a tendency to leave a little residue behind, and since I have normal/combination skin– I tend to prefer that second cleansing step. This cleansing balm has ultra-lightweight texture that melts into an oil that thoroughly removes makeup, dirt and dead skin cells, and it does so without stripping or irritating the skin. I like to massage it into my face and then I emulsify it by adding warm water, and that causes it to transform into a milky emulsion. I expected that I would have to double cleanse to remove an oily residue, but I was delighted to see that there was no oily residue, and that I actually didn't need to wash off any residue. It hydrates the skin and leaves it soft and smooth, and while it is not heavily aromatic, the lavender oil makes a faint appearance, but it is neither long-lasting, nor in the least bit imposing.

Directions: Scoop a generous amount. Massage over dry skin. Rinse thoroughly.
According to Vitabrid,

Daily facial cleansing balm quickly melts into an oil, thoroughly removing makeup and impurities without stripping skin moisture, delivering Vitabrid CG, a stabilized form of active Vitamin C, that activates in water for powerful antioxidant protection while Madecassoside helps prevent dryness and soothes irritated skin.

Deeply cleanses without stripping away the skin’s moisture: A powerful proprietary blend of Vitabrid CG (stabilized vitamin C) removes makeup and impurities without stripping away the skin’s moisture. A very first step to a skin antioxidant: As stabilized vitamin C activates in water along with Carydendron Orincense Seed  Oil (Kahai Oil) in the special formulation, this sorbet-to-oil cleansing balm helps fight against free radicals to support a healthy and balanced skin.
Strengthen skin barrier for a sensitive skin; While gently exfoliating, Madecassoside soothes and helps irritated skin look healthier.
Select Ingredients and Their Attributes:

Vitabrid CG (Active & stabilized vitamin C) - Removes dead skin cells, brightens skin, improves elasticity, skin regeneration effect, helps to improve skin condition.

Madecassoside / Centella Asiatica Extract – Strengthens the skin barrier, soothes, helps to provide collagen synthesis, skin regeneration.

Carydendron Orincense Seed Oil (Kahai Oil) – 100% natural antioxidant enriched with protein, minerals, and vitamin F along with Retinol.

Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract – Natural exfoliant while providing excellent moisturization.

Caulerpa Lentillifera Extract – Detoxifies and purifies deeply into the pores.

Nelumbo Nucifera Flower Extract – Purifies, soothes compromised, irritated skin, helps to improve skin condition.

Mesembryanthemum Crystallinum Extract / Prunus Mume Fruit Extract – Skin repair, moisturizes the skin.
Overall Assessment: Vitabrid continues to impress me with their luxurious and effective products, and this cleansing balm is unsurprisingly a delight to use.

- Bi-Monthly Delivery
- Free U.S. Shipping
- Effective Plant-based Ingredients
- Always Cruelty-Free
According to Boxwalla,

I am so excited to tell you about the wonderful April Box we have dreamed up. This April we feature the gorgeous brand. Monastery, in a box themed 'When the Muses Sing of Spring'.

This April we are showcasing a gorgeous brand Monastery created by Athena Hewett who has been practicing as an aesthetician for 20 years. She started her own skincare studio in San Francisco in 2011 and introduced her own line alongside to treat her patients/clients. This line eventually became Monastery. She draws a lot of inspiration for her line from her Greek heritage- she spent summers with her mother's family in Greece where her grandparents owned an olive grove and the pressed oil oil was used both in food and in skincare. And her grandmother, an herbalist, would press olives from her grove and mix with various herbs to create tonics to heal the skin. Athena grew up in California and learnt a lot of the practices of pressing local herbs and nuts from her mother as well.

I love how Monastery is informed both Athena's heritage & love of plants and plant potions as well as her extensive training & experience as an esthetician. She still practices in her studio in San Francisco (I can't wait to visit!). Athena formulates with a minimalist philosophy, only including what is absolutely necessary in a formulation, letting each ingredient shine & work its magic. Yet the sensory experience is not minimal but multilayered and transportive.
The box contains the Monastery Aloe Hyaluronic Moisture Boost ($79) and the Monastery XX Rose Glycolic Gel ($74). Both are full-sized and the retail value is $153.
Monastery XX Rose Glycolic Gel (Retail Value $74.00 for 2.03 oz.): This delightfully lightweight gel serum, which has the faint aroma of Rose Damascena, gently exfoliates and resurfaces the skin. It leaves skin incredibly soft, smooth, supple, clear and brightened. The 10% Glycolic Acid is tempered by the soothing rose water that helps to hydrate the skin while the Glycolic Acid exfoliates dead skin cells. I use this serum at night, and I kid you not– when I awaken the following morning my skin looks remarkable. My skin is normal with a lightly combination T-Zone, and it can be a little sensitive at times, and yet this exfoliating serum does not irritate my skin, nor does it create uncomfortable tingling or any burning.

Features:

- XX is suitable for all skin types except ultra sensitive. Dermatologist and microbial tested, free of parabens, chemicals and alcohols.

- XX gently resurfaces skin, as glycolic acid and rose water work together to exfoliate, soften, clear, smooth, and brighten.

According to Boxwalla,

XX is an exfoliating serum that can be used overnight a couple times a week. I am conservative when it comes to exfoliation and I use it once a week as an overnight serum. For those with sensitive skin or those who are new to acids, you can first try 1 pump of the product as a kind of 'flash mask', leaving it on for 2-5 mins and rinsing off. Acids don't always work for my skin, but I first used this as a quick mask, before beginning to use it overnight and my skin loved it. The Glycolic acid used in this is derived from sugarcane and papaya and is at 10%. The pH is 5 which is not too acidic and therefore mild

Directions: Apply 1-2 pumps right after cleansing and before the rest of your skincare regimen. For sensitive skin, apply as a mask for 2-5 minutes and rinse off with water.
 Ingredients:
Monastery Aloe Hyaluronic Moisture Boost (Retail Value $79.00 for 2.03 oz.): This gel-based hydrating and nourishing serum is ultra-lightweight and fast absorbing. Its ability to retain and boost hydration is stupendous given that it contains Hyaluronic Acid and Aloe Vera Juice. It leaves skin soft, smooth, supple, hydrated and soothed. Furthermore, it lightly plumps fine lines, and the light lavender aroma soothes the spirit.

Features:

- Aloe is suitable for all skin types. Dermatologist and microbial tested, free of parabens, chemicals and alcohols.

- This multipurpose product hydrates and calms skin. It can be used on its own for oily skin types or hot summer days or layered under thicker moisturizers when skin needs more nourishment.

According to Boxwalla

This is a beautiful hydrating gel serum that contains both aloe vera juice and hyaluronic acid, thus providing two sources of hydration. I like to apply on damp (misted) face, and then I layer an oil over it followed by a cream/balm. You can also create a microemulsion with Aloe and an oil and apply it to your skin. This also contains clary sage which tones and reduces inflammation. I loove the scent and can't wait to hear what you think!

Directions: Apply 1-2 pumps to the face, allowing 30 seconds to absorb. For oily skin, use alone as a serum or moisturizer. For dryer skin, apply under any Monastery moisturizer as a hydrating serum.
 Ingredients
Overall Assessment: This is my first time trying anything from Monastery, but I am so overjoyed by these two extraordinary products that I plan to further investigate this eco-luxe brand. This is a must-try brand from the most incredible purveyor of eco-luxe beauty boxes.

 Press Sample (Unaffiliated Links)

I absolutely love a good non-stripping gel cleanser, and I am pleased to tell you that the Arbonne Bio-Hydria Gel Cleanser is an absolute joy to use. As I had anticipated, it is a lathering gel cleanser, with no detectable scent, that thoroughly and gently cleans the skin without drying it out in the least bit. Skin is left soft, comfortable, refreshed, lightly hydrated, and it rinses clean without any sort of residue left behind. Furthermore, it is cruelty-free, gluten-free, vegan and made in France.
According to Arbonne,

Cleans so well, feels so good. This gel cleanser lathers into a delicate foam that cushions your skin as it rids the surface of makeup and impurities. Witch hazel in the formula helps moisturize and soothe the skin so it’s left feeling comfortable, not taut

Directions: Gently massage in circular motions. Rinse.

Ingredients: Aqua/Water/Eau, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Coconut Acid, Salicylic Acid, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Sulfate, Benzoic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Citric Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Fragrance/Parfum*, Limonene. *Proprietary blend derived from natural botanicals and essential oils.
Overall Assessment: If you love a high quality lathering gel cleanser, then this is definitely one worth considering! It is gentle enough for all types of skin, and is absolutely wonderful for my normal skin.

Revisiting My Favorite Hand Soap from Rebel Green

Purchased (Affiliate Links)

Given the number of times I have been washing my hands during the Coronavirus crisis, I decided to revisit my favorite liquid hand soap, Rebel Green Fresh & Clean Hand Soap in Pink Lilac. I placed a fresh bottle in my master bathroom so that I could enjoy some of my many hand-washings. Rebel Green hand soaps are cruelty-free, feature non-synthetic fragrances, and they also have a fragrance-free version. The pink lilac scent, which I love, is absolutely amazing. The lilac aroma is so beautiful that I would wear it if it were a perfume, seriously it smells that lovely.

This soap is gentle and yet it thoroughly cleans the skin, but it does so without stripping, drying or irritating even the most dry and chapped hands. It leaves hands remarkably soft, smooth and hydrated. They also make their hand soaps in Unscented, Peppermint & Lemon, Frankincense & Pine and Lavender & Grapefruit.
According to Rebel Green,

Rebel Green Fresh & Clean Hand Soap Pink Lilac is a natural plant based formula that keeps hands soft. Hardworking and naturally moisturizing with aloe vera and vitamins A and E. Pure essential oils. No synthetic fragrances.
Overall Assessment: I love this hand soap, and plan to buy a few more bottles in the very near future!
