Votary Vitamin C Glow Serum: This lightweight magical serum features a very stable and effective form of Vitamin C, and this antioxidant-rich serum– which effectively combats free radical damage– is formulated to diminish the appearance of discoloration (age spots, sun damage), and it gives skin a gorgeous ethereal glow. However, unlike some Vitamin C serums– which I have found drying for my skin– this one includes Hyaluronic Acid, and therefore it deeply hydrates the skin while leaving the complexion soft, smooth, supple and more even on tone. It contains no detectable aroma, does not irritate my sometimes finicky skin, and it is as joyful to use as it is effective.

A great Vitamin C serum is a very useful thing to have in your skincare toolkit, especially in summer when it becomes even more crucial to combat the free radical damage caused by UV rays. I have been loving this new Vitamin C serum from Votary – the dark spots that usually appear on my skin in summer seem to have been kept at bay by this serum (and sunscreen).

Votary Ultra Rich Cream: What is remarkable is the fact that Votary accidentally sent Boxwalla their Ultra Rich Cream instead of their Ultimate Light Cream, and I am grateful for this mistake! This is my new all-time favorite face cream, and it is utterly magical. The peptides were selected for their ability to smooth and firm the skin while the ceramides support the skin barrier while locking in vital moisture. While this is a rich cream, the texture is light to mid weight, and it melts into the skin immediately without leaving behind a greasy residue. It leaves my skin soft, supple, moisturized and remarkably luminous. It has a very light herbal aroma, informed by the natural ingredients– not added fragrance– and it feels and smells ultra-luxe.

It is formulated to purify the skin, deeply cleanse it and it leaves skin soft, smooth, supple and radiant. It does not dry out the skin, and it has a wonderful light and nutty aroma. Instead of drying out the skin, it is left purified and moisturized instead of dry and irritated. It is gentle, and the hand-blended mask is formulated with Kaolin clay, Vitamin B5, Allantoin, Cucumber extract, Mallow Flower and plant-derived Squalane, and together these ingredients deeply cleanse and moisturize the skin. It is left clean, clear, moisturized, soft, smooth, supple and luminous. This is the most effective mask for my skin, and it is never left dry and irritated.

Recommended for stressed, dry and delicate skin (also suitable for post-surgical care), or whenever skin is in need of a visible soothing and revitalising boost. For blemish-prone skin, use 2-3 times a week, for all other skin types, use 1-2 a week.

Overall Assessment: This is a beautiful beauty box, and if you have never tried Twelve Beauty, this is the perfect place to start! I love both of these products, but I have to say that I reach for the Twelve Beauty B12 Calm Serum every single day because it really pampers my increasingly more irritable skin. A+

So the pause was also a reevaluation.

The same answers that made me first launch our Beauty Boxes back in 2015 came back to me—I love a plant-based potion as an object that holds cultural memory, that reflects a relationship between people and their environment that has existed for centuries. But I also enjoy how this relationship has evolved, and evolved differently for different artisans. Whether it is in understanding the science behind the efficacy of botanical potions, figuring out how to add the right touch of lab-synthesized ingredients to gild a natural formulation, or just refining an artisanal process intuitively until the resulting product is as much wearable craft as functional.

And so, with this context, we are back with the Beauty Boxes, in a monthly format that lets us continue. As many of you know, we love showcasing excellence, and you will only find products in the boxes that I personally adore, use, and am excited about.
