African Botanics At Home Luxury Spa Day: The Royal Treatment from Head to Toe

Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

African Botanics is revolutionizing skin and body care by continually producing cutting edge products that are healthy, effective, utilize the highest quality ingredients available, and are utterly extraordinary to use. Their quest to create healthy luxury products, with sustainably harvested indigenous ingredients from the Noik's native South Africa, continually raises the bar on what it means to use luxe products without any fillers or unsafe ingredients.

Furthermore, the textures and aromas of each one of their thoughtfully conceived and executed products shows an attention to detail seldom seen, and I simply cannot sufficiently underscore the extent to which their products feel divine, and are an unmitigated joy to use.

One simply cannot help but wax poetic about their wonderful creations, and once you try any of their products you will be a convert. With this in mind, I decided that an immersive African Botanics At-Home Spa-Day was in order, and I wanted to share a step-by-step tutorial to create the most amazing experience for the skin, hair and soul.

Among my all-time favorite things to do for myself, as a reward for working so much, is to slow down and have an at-home luxury spa day, and I can think of no better line in which to engage for this treat than African Botanics. Therefore, I thought that I would give you a step-by-step guide to recreate my latest home spa experience, and to give you the real royal treatment I opted to only use African Botanics products. Of course, you can substitute other products that you have, but I highly recommend using as many African Botanics products that you have since this is an exemplary wellness line that is uncompromisingly luxurious, and it is made with the highest quality, responsibly sourced ingredients available.
I wanted to nourish my skin and hair, to thoroughly relax and unwind after grading a huge stack of seminar papers and grad theses, and to restore a sense of balance and overall wellbeing. While this treatment can be done prior to an event for fresh, glowing skin, I tend to do it before I go to bed because it leaves my body rested and nourished, and my mind calm and quiet. Additionally, this treatment enhances the skin's natural cell turnover that occurs while you sleep, and therefore when you awaken the following morning vitality is restored, and your skin is luminous like never before.
BODY TREATMENT:
THE KALAHARI DESERT DE-TOX BATH SALTS SOAK
STEP I: My first step is to fill the bathtub with warm water, then add a handful of African Botanics Kalahari Desert De-Tox Bath Salts, and then soak for about 15-20 minutes to allow the salts time to absorb into the skin. Without rinsing the skin, wrap yourself in a towel and relax under a warm blanket for 15-20 minutes, and drink plenty of water to rehydrate while relaxing.

I would definitely suggest following the directions, and cannot sufficiently underscore the importance of drinking plenty of water to rehydrate. I also love rubbing the salts on my wet skin before they dissolve because they effectively and gently exfoliate dead skin cells and therefore enable the nourishing ingredients to sink deeper into the layers of the skin.

African Botanics Kalahari Desert De-Tox Bath Salts (Reviewed HERE. $75.00 for 17.64 oz. from African Botanics and Net-A-Porter): nearly defy description in that they feel and smell unlike any bath salts that I have ever experienced. The mineral-rich salt is sourced from the Kalahari Desert, that stretches across Botswana, Namibia and South Africa, and it is responsibly harvested from an ancient underground dry lake. They are infused with a unique aromatic blend of botanicals from The Cape Floristic Region of South Africa, and among their attributes is their exemplary ability to remove toxins and boost circulation. Skin is left soft, smooth, supple, and hydrated– while the spirits are elevated and rejuvenated.

The aroma is a refined fusion of The Cape Floristic Region botanicals, and while the scent is an amalgam of their scents, the top notes are subtly informed by the slightly tangy Juniper Berry with its edges softened by the Cape Rose Geranium Oil, the Lemongrass Oil and the Marula Oil. The aroma is, itself, a complex, delectable, earthy, uplifting and intoxicating mood elevator that delights the senses.

Additionally, the caffeine acts as an effective diuretic that removes excess water-retention and softens the appearance of cellulite while the carefully selected blend of ingredients nourish the skin, relax the muscles and quiet the mind.
Key Benefits and Results for the African Botanics Kalahari Desert De-Tox Bath Salts:

Oxygenating Seaweed is wild-harvested by fishermen from the thriving Kelp forests off the coast of South Africa, rich in iodine, calcium, zinc and copper as well as antioxidants like vitamin C, Seaweed has been traditionally used to help relieve skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and acne. Together with Caffeine they work to help break down cellulite and combat the build-up of toxins while stabilizing fluid levels in the body. Crushed African Buchu Leaf, known for its antiseptic and diuretic properties, develops a subtle yet sensual and mood-boosting scent.

Ingredients: Sodium Chloride (Kalahari Crystal Salt), Agathosma Betulina (Buchu)* Leaf Powder, Methyl Salicylate, Fucus Vesiculosis (Seaweed) Extract, Caffein, Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula)* Seed Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens (Cape Rose Geranium) Essential Oil, Juniperus Communis (Juniper Berry) Essential Oil, Eriocephalus Punctulatus (Cape Chamomile) Essential Oil, Eriocephalus Africanus (Cape Snowbush) Essential Oil, Chamomile Martricaria Extract, Cymbopogon Citratus (Lemongrass) Essential Oil. *Certified Organic and Wild-Harvested Ingredients.
DRY BRUSH
STEP II: Before stepping into the shower, I like to dry brush my body to stimulate circulation. I use the Mio Body Brush The Mio Body Brush Natural Dry Brush ($20.00 from Mio Skincareb-glowingAmazonNet-A-Porter and Cult Beauty £14.50): is a natural dry brush that effortlessly reveals beautiful soft, smooth and supple skin. It also helps to remove toxins and bloating by stimulating lymphatic drainage. It also works very well as a skin exfoliator, boosts circulation and improves the appearance of cellulite. Furthermore, its efficacy is boosted after the African Botanics Kalahari Desert De-Tox Bath Salts soak.

• Helps with lymphatic drainage, removing toxins and bloat
• Exfoliates, revealing smoother, fresher, more vibrant skin
• Helps release stubborn lumpy areas, improving cellulite
• It stimulates and boosts circulation
I would add that one need not apply a lot of pressure to the skin, but instead let the brush do the work. It is also important to note that you want to avoid doing this on irritated or broken skin. If you have suspicious looking lumps or moles, consult with your doctor before dry brushing, or exfoliating. The last thing that you want to do is exfoliate anything that may point to a more serious skin condition such as skin cancer.
BODY SCRUBS
STEP III: After soaking in the bath and dry brushing, the next step in this treatment is to apply African Botanics African Muti Mud Mineral Body Scrub (Reviewed HERE$65.00 for 6.76 0z./200ml from African Botanics, Space NKB-Glowing, C.O. Bigelow and Credo Beautyto the entire body, except the face and hair, and leave it on the skin for 10-15 minutes.

African Botanics Marula African Muti Mud Mineral Body Scrub is an ultra-luxe mineral and phytonutrient-rich Muti Mud-based scrub, which is inspired by an ancient spa ritual. It has a delectable light cocoa scent that ignites the senses while it detoxifies and purifies the skin. Its exfoliating particles are at once ultra-efficient and gentle, making the perfect choice for all skin types– including the most sensitive. While African Botanics Marula African Muti Mud Mineral Body Scrub gently removes dead skin cells, it not only leaves skin soft, supple and moisturized, but it also leaves it noticeably luminous with improved texture. Unlike many oil-based body scrubs, this one neither leaves an oil-slick on the skin, nor on the shower floor– therefore there is no added clean-up after use. If ever there was a perfect body scrub, it is this one.

There are two wonderful ways that one can use this scrub: First, in the traditional way one can apply to dry or damp skin and gently massage it in a circular motion. The second method, which is how I am using it here, involves applying it to dry skin and leaving it on for 10-15 minutes. This method allows the Muti Mud to detox the skin before the scrub is massaged into the skin in a circular motion. The results are astounding when used alone, but when used in conjunction with the rest of this spa treatment, the results are even more pronounced. Skin is left unbelievably silky smooth and soft.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Kaolin, Bentonite, Scelrocarya Birrea (Marula) Seed Oil**, Adansoania Digitata (Baobab) Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Glycerin, Cocoa (Theobroma Cacoa) Powder, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Mentha Piperata (Peppermint) Essentail Oil, Hematite Extract, Kaolinite, Illite (Yellow Clay), Tocopherol Acetate, Aspalathus Linearis (Green Rooibos Tea) Extract, Alumina Powder, Corindon (Corundum Crystal) Powder, Magnesium Aluminium Silicate, Xanthan Gum, Disodium Edta, Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Iron Oxides. May contain ± [CI 77499, CI 77492, CI 77491]. ** Certified Organic.
SCRUB & CLEANSING IN THE SHOWER
STEP IV): Jump in the shower and massage the African Botanics Marula African Muti Mud Mineral Body Scrub into the skin in a circular motion and then rinse with warm water.
STEP V: This step is completely optional, but I like to use the African Botanics Marula Detoxifying Salt & Sugar Body Scrub on my feet, hands and elbows for added exfoliation and moisture because the the raw cane sugar and pink Himalayan Salts work remarkably well in their ability to breakdown dead skin cells on particularly calloused and dry areas of the skin.

African Botanics Marula Detoxifying Salt & Sugar Body Scrub (Reviewed HERE. $55.00 for 6.76 oz. from African Botanics, Space NK, Net-A-Porter, Violet Grey, Beauty.com, Bloomingdale's and C.O. Bigelow):is an antioxidant-rich body scrub that gently and effectively eliminates dead skin cells while it increases blood flow– which accelerates the removal of toxins.

The exfoliating particles, which are comprised of raw cane sugar and mineral-rich pink Himalayan crystal salt, densely populate the oil-infused formula, and they do an exemplary job removing dead skin cells. These particles are not jagged, and therefore do not damage or traumatize the skin, and they naturally dissolve against the skin– unlike scrubs with synthetic particles that pollute the waterways. The warm, Neroli and Grapefruit aroma is delectable and calming– while the formula is itself ultra-nourishing. Once the sugar and salt dissolve, a thin veil of nourishing oils coat the skin and offer it deep moisture, and stunning luminosity. Unlike many oil-based body scrubs, African Botanics Marula Detoxifying Salt & Sugar Body Scrub thankfully does not leave an oil-slick on the shower floor. Without fail, once I emerge from the shower, my skin is left ultra soft, silky-smooth, supple, hydrated and luminous. I immediately follow by applying one of my favorite body oils and body creams for unbelievably dewy, luminous skin. The formula is so gently and soothing that it is suitable for all types of skin.

Ingredients: Sucrose, Capric/Caprylic Triglyceride, Sodium Chloride Sole (Himalayan Crystal Salts), Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Glycerin, Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Seed Oil**, Polyglyceryl-5 Oleate, Silica, Citrus Paradisi (Ruby Grapefruit) Essential Oil, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab) Seed Oil, Citrullus Lanatus (Kalahari Watermelon) Seed Oil, Citrus Aurantium (Neroli) Essential Oil, Tocopherol Acetate, Citronellal*, Farnesol*, Geraniol*, Limonene*, Linalool*. *Constituents of natural essential oils used. ** Certified Organic.
CLEANSING
STEP VI: The next step is to cleanse any body parts that were not exfoliated, and also to use African Botanics Marula Plantes d'Afrique Shower Cream to shave.

The first thing that one is struck by is the divine aroma that might be described as a gorgeous commingling of the Green Rooibos Tea and Honeybush Leaf Extracts, the Cape Rose Geranium and the Lemongrass. The scent is warm and comforting and it immediately soothes the spirit and calms the mind.

The non-foaming cream cleanser is a sublime velvety cream that feels indescribably silky and luxurious against the skin. The moment that the rich cream comes in contact with water, it transforms into an ultra emollient emulsion. It is infused with small, and gentle, exfoliating particles, that are comprised of crushed Baobab fruit and ancient volcanic lava minerals, that efficiently and effectively remove dead skin cells without ever damaging or irritating the skin.

The formula is exceptionally moisturizing, and leaves skin silky soft, supple, hydrated, soothed, calmed, luminous, and thoroughly cleansed and exfoliated. There is also a discernible lifting and toning sensation that one notes after use, and skin looks and feels absolutely renewed and refreshed. African Botanics Marula Plantes d'Afrique Shower Cream is moisturizing enough that I could even forgo a moisturizer following my shower, if I so chose to, but I do prefer using oils and moisturizers afterward.

This antioxidant rich anti-aging formula is filled with nourishing ingredients such as Marula Oil, Baobab Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Kalahari Seed Oil and Shea Butter that moisturize the skin and leave it indescribably soft.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Seed Oil*, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*, Trichila Emetica (Cape Mahogany Mafura) Seed Butter*, Citrillus Lanatus (Kalahari Melon) Seed Oil*, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab) Fruit Powder*, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab) Seed Oil*, Cetearyl Alcohol, Octyldodecanol, Pumice, Kigelia Africana Fruit Extract*, Aspalathus Linearis (Rooibos Tea) Extract, Cyclopia Genistoides (Honeybush) Leaf Extract, Pelargonium Graveolens Roseum (Cape Rose Geranium) Essential Oil, Cymbopogon Citratus (Lemongrass) Essential Oil, Ethylhexylglycerin. *Organic and Wild-Harvested Ingredients.

*Nota Bene: If your hair is dirty, or is filled with styling products, then wash it before getting out of the shower. If it is clean then either leave it dry, or moisten in with a little water.
Marula Regenerating Body Hydro-Serum
STEP VII: Step out of the shower and lightly pat your skin to remove excess water, but not completely. You want your skin to remain warm and slightly damp when you apply the African Botanics Marula Regenerating Body Hydro-Serum.

African Botanics Marula Regenerating Body Hydro Serum (Reviewed HERE. $85.00 for 5.07 oz./150 ml from African BotanicsNet-A-Porter and Cult Beauty £60.00): This groundbreaking product has no equivalent in the marketplace against which it can be compared. This is, in fact, a new breed of antioxidant-rich anti-aging body serums– a truly unprecedented creation of the very highest quality.
African Botanics Marula Regenerating Body Hydro Serum is a highly concentrated lightweight, fast absorbing and non-sticky gel textured serum that, "helps oxygenate, stimulate, tone, soothe and regenerate the skin leaving it fully replenished and protected with restored elasticity, firmness and radiance."

The unique and rich botanical complex is comprised of the essential oils of Cedar, Cypress, Lemon, Peppermint and Thyme that naturally stimulate and tone the skin. The microcirculation produces and creates a refreshing thermal cooling sensation that is uplifting, energizing, and utterly luxurious. Not only does this wondrous elixir create a pronounced sense of well-being, but the scent is a heavenly and indescribably fusion of the essential oils that invites deep inhalation. Furthermore, the tiny refined light-reflecting particles give the skin a subtle ethereal glow that is further enhanced by the essential oils.

African Botanics Marula Regenerating Body Hydro Serum was created to address the needs of skin that is dehydrated, stressed or sagging as a result of diminished elasticity. It is also a perfect product to use on UV exposed skin, and on achy bodies after strenuous workouts.

Directions: "Apply once or twice a day after shower/bath onto damp skin to the areas that need treating (upper arms, stomach, legs, thighs, bust and hips). Massage in with upward circular movements until completely absorbed. May be layered under other bodycare products. Ideal as a post-workout or as a cooling relief for swollen legs, feet and as an aftersun treatment."

After use, in addition to the lovely cooling effects, one immediately notes that skin is deeply hydrated and plumped, healthy and luminous. It soothes and calms irritated skin, reduces the appearance of hyperpigmentation (sun spots) and protects and rejuvenates skin thanks to the antioxidant-rich anti-aging formula. Furthermore, it retexturizes and smooths cellulite because of the caffeine in conjunction with the carefully selected botanicals– all of which mitigate the orange-peel appearance associated with cellulite. Skin is left, soft, supple, hydrated, even in tone and texture, and utterly luminous.

The benefits of this magical potion by far exceed treating stretch marks and scars, but if you are pregnant and want to avoid getting stretch marks, then you definitely want this body oil because it is both safe and unbelievably effective.

STEP X: Massage African Botanics Marula Botanical Hand Cream into hands and cuticles until it is fully absorbed.

African Botanics Marula Botanical Hand Cream (Reviewed HERE. $55.00 for 2 oz. from African Botanics and Net-A-Porter): The ultra-emollient luxury oil-infused cream boasts a refreshingly creamy lightweight texture that sinks into the skin immediately and doesn't leave hands in the least bit greasy. If you adhere to the belief that one needs to use thick and greasy hand creams in order to stave-off and heal dry and chapped hands, then you will be astonished by the efficacy of this ingenious hand cream. In fact, I think that it is more accurate to classify Marula Botanical Hand Cream as a cutting-edge antioxidant-rich anti-aging serum/cream hybrid that protects, nourishes, hydrates, soothes, brightens and repairs the skin with great efficacy.

Not only are my hands soft, supple and ultra moisturized, but they are left with the type of pronounced luminosity that I have only ever experienced in luxurious serums and beauty oils for the face. The delectable warm and earthy scent heightens the sensory experience of using this luxe hand cream, but it does fade soon upon application, and therefore won't pose a problem for those among you who prefer scent-free products.
It is noteworthy that the formula is very concentrated, and the effects are very long-lasting– therefore a single tube goes a very very long way.

Ingredients: Aqua (Spring Water), Aloe Ferox (Bitter Aloe) Leaf Extract, Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula)* Seed Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Glycerin, Decyl Oleate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea)* Butter, Mangifera Indica (Mango)* Seed Butter, Cetyl Alcohol, Trichilla Emetica (Cape Mahogany Mafura)* Seed Butter, Lepidium Sativum Sprout Extract, Lecithin, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab)* Seed Oil, Rhododendron Ferrugineum Leaf Cell Culture Extract, Globularia Cordifolia Ferment, Kigelia Africana Fruit Extract*, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Fruit Extract, Aspalathus Linearis (Rooibos) Tea Extract, Cyclopia Genistoides (Honeybush) Leaf Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hexapeptide-3, Pelargonium Graveolens (Cape Geranium) Essential Oil, Rosarinus Officinalis (Rosemary Leaf) Essential Oil, Citrus Aurantium (Neroli) Essential Oil, Maltodextrin, Tocopherol (Vitamin E). *Organic and Wild-Harvested Ingredients.
FACE, NECK & DÉCOLLETÉ TREATMENT:
After finishing up the body treatment, make your way over to your bathroom sink, and keep your hair wrapped and off of your face. If you prefer to remove the towel or hair turban, then tie your hair up or use a headband.
CLEANSING:
STEP XI: To begin the facial, pump out enough of the African Botanics Pure Marula Cleansing Oil (Reviewed HERE. $60.00 for 3.4 oz. from African Botanics, SpaceNK at Bloomingdale's and SpaceNK) for your face, neck and décolleté. African Botanics suggests massaging it for 1 minute in a circular motion concentrating on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. After massaging, the skin add a few drops of warm water in order to emulsify the oil, and then rinse thoroughly with warm water.

Marula Pure Marula Cleansing Oil is noted for its ability to:

  • Dissolve impurities & makeup (including eye makeup)
  • Clarify, oxygenate, and soften the skin
  • Regenerate the skin
This lightweight oil is an antioxidant and omega-rich oil that was formulated to gently cleanse and purify even the most sensitive skin types while removing makeup, dead skin cells as well as pollution and other impurities. It is so gentle and effective that it neither dehydrates the skin, nor causes irritation. It is suitable for combination, sensitive and dry skin types.

To remove eye makeup: Pump a very small amount onto a moist cotton pad, and then gently hold it over the eyes for a few seconds. With a gentle sweeping motion you will see all of your makeup dissolve. Follow up with a clean water moistened cotton pad to remove the last bits of makeup residue. According to Julia, Pure Marula Cleansing Oil is even formulated to handle stubborn waterproof makeup! In fact, Julia herself uses it to remove her waterproof mascara by applying the oil with a water moistened moist cotton pad, then pressing it gently over her closed eye area for a few seconds, and then wiping it off slowly. Finally she repeats with a clean water moistened cotton pad to remove the last bits of cleansing oil and makeup.

Ingredients: Glycerin, Capric/Caprylic Triglycerides, Aqua, Neopentyl Glycol Diethylhexanoate, Diisopropyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Sorbitan Oleate, Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Seed Oil**, Moringa Pterygosperma (Moringa) Seed Oil**, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab) Seed Oil**, Isoamyl Laurate, Lauryl Glucoside, Coco Glucoside, Eriocephalus punctulatus (Chamomile Cape) Essential Oil, Citrus Paradisi (Pink Grapefruit) Essential Oil, Vaccinium Myrtillus (Bilberry) Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Acer Saccahrinum (Sugar Maple) Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Extract, Tocopherol Acetate, Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate*, Citral*, Citronellal*, Geraniol*, Limonene*, Linalool*. *Constituents Of Natural Essential Oils Used. **Certified Organic. 100% Vegan. Gluten-free.
STEP XII: Mix equal parts of Marula Baobab Clay Oxygenating Cleanser and Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish, and then gently massage into your wet face neck and décolleté in a light circular motion. If you require more exfoliation then add more of the enzyme polish. When cleansers and exfoliants do their job properly, one can use far less of their favorite potions and lotions, and therefore can save a lot of money on wasted product. Nowhere is this more evident than when one has to replace an ultra-expensive serum all too soon.

This luxurious, lightly lathering and water soluble cleanser, which has a silky clay/gel texture, is unlike any other cleanser in my current collection. It gently balances skin, without stripping it, and it expertly draws out impurities and unclogs congested pores. Furthermore, it calms irritated skin while reducing inflammation and redness.

The African Clay gently heals acne and blemishes without drying out or traumatizing the skin, and it effectively draws out impurities, and regulates sebum and oil production. It contains the essential oils of Sandalwood and Cedar that help to calm skin, while Jasmine blossoms serve to fade scars. The Green Rooibos Tea, which is a potent antioxidant, also serves to reduce redness and irritation and is known to help heal skin inflammation, and to help treat skin conditions such as eczema.

Skin is left visibly toned, even in texture, balanced and lifted, but it is neither left dry nor in the least bit taut. In fact, the antioxidant-rich formula leaves skin plumped and protected, while the rich African Botanicals, Marula Oil and vitamins hydrate and nourish the skin.  Furthermore, skin is rendered remarkably smooth, soft as silk, and with a pronounced clarity and luminosity. It is also a fantastic treat to mix it with African Botanics Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish for a light exfoliation.

This cleanser has a wonderful earthy fragrance that greatly enhances the sensory experience of using this beautiful cleanser that is formulated for all skin types.

Skincare Tip: Apply African Botanics Baobab Clay Oxygenating Cleanser and let it sit on the skin for about a minute to allow the clay to draw out the impurities more effectively. Then proceed to massaging in into the skin in a circular motion for about another minute.

Directions: Gently shake the tube as natural ingredients might settle. Massage a small amount onto damp face, neck and decollete, using light circular movements for 1 minute. Remove with a warm, damp face cloth or rinse well with water. Repeat as needed. Follow with a face mist and appropriate oil / serums or cream.

African Botanics Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish (Reviewed HERE. $75.00 for 3.38 oz./100 ml. from African BotanicsNet-A-PorterCredo BeautyNeed Supply Company and Cult Beauty £66.00): Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish is a very deep-cleansing facial exfoliator that effectively and efficiently sweeps away impurities and cleans out clogged pores. It is formulated with a combination of Marula Oil, Baobab Oils and Buchu Plant extracts that are punctuated by Micro-Algae and ultra-fine granules of ancient volcanic minerals. The fine granules, which densely populate this exfoliator, efficiently and effectively unclog pores, and remove dead skin cells, excess oils and impurities. Papaya and Pineapple enzymes help to dissolve dead skin cells, aid in cleaning out the pores, and make them appear reduced in size. Skin is left brightened, deeply cleansed and utterly glowing. In fact, the first time that I used it I noticed that it left my skin feeling as soft and silky smooth as ultra-fine velvet. Only the smallest amount is needed to achieve the desired results for the face, neck and décolleté, and the exfoliating particles are so efficient that you do not need to apply any pressure as you massage it into the skin. Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish Skin neither strips the skin, nor does it deplete vital moisture or hydration. Dull, congested skin gives way to youthful, radiant skin that feels amazing to the touch.

Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish has a wonderful earthy aroma that greatly enhances the sensory experience of using this exfoliator. While it is formulated for most skin types, people with sensitive skin should mix a very small amount with their favorite cleanser. I routinely mix it with Baobab Clay Oxygenating Cleanser when I only want light exfoliation, but I use it alone at least once or twice a week.

Directions: Apply a small amount as desired and massage in a gentle circular motion onto clean, wet face, neck and decollete. Leave on for 2-3 minutes to allow the enzymes to activate. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. For sensitive skin: mix a small amount with Baobab Clay Oxygenating Cleanser or with any other cleanser.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Carica Papaya (Papaya) Extract, Ananas Sativus (Pineapple) Fruit Extract, Pumice (Volcanic Minerals), Glycerin, Agathosma Betulina (Buchu) Leaf Powder*, Corn Starch, Acrylates, Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Seed Oil*, Adansonia Digitata (Baobab) Fruit Powder*, Aloe Ferox (Bitter Aloe) Leaf Extract, Lactobionic Acid, Citrus Bergamia (Bergamot) Essential Oil, Athrospira Platensis (Spirulina) Micro-Algae Extract, Pelargonium Graveolens (Cape Rose Geranium) Essential Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Kigelia Africana Fruit Extract*, Aspalathus Linearis (Green Rooibos Tea) Extract, Cyclopia Genistoides (Honeybush) Extract. *Organic & Wild-Harvested Ingredients. 100% Vegan. AFRICAN BOTANICS MARULA + PLANT STEM CELLS MINERAL CLEANSING MASK
STEP XIII: Now that all of your dead skin cells have been removed, apply a thin layer of African Botanics Marula + Plant Stem Cells Mineral Cleansing Mask to dry skin using your finger tips, but be sure to avoid the delicate eye area. Leave it on your skin for 15 minutes, and then add warm water and lightly massage it in a circular motion to exfoliate dead skin cells and everything that has been dislodged from your pores. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and lightly pat off excess water, but leave skin damp.

African Botanics Marula + Plant Stem Cells Mineral Cleansing Mask (Reviewed HERE. $75.00 for 1.7 oz. from African Botanics and Space NK US): You may ask yourself how this mask differs from the scores of clay masks on the market, and there are a myriad of reasons for its uniqueness in the marketplace. Chief among them is the fact that this mask does not dry out the skin as do the standard clay-based masks. In fact, African Botanics Marula + Plant Stem Cells Mineral Cleansing Mask moisturizes and nourishes the skin while it purifies and draws out impurities that congest the pores. One look at the unique list of ingredients is all one needs to understand just why this clay mask is peerless, and is appropriate for all skin types. Even those for whom dry skin is the norm will be astonished by the results from this mask, and without any of the drying effects associated with typical clay masks.

I use Marula + Plant Stem Cells Mineral Cleansing Mask once a week in order to reveal gorgeously clean and clear skin.  However, this magical mask does so much more than typical clay masks. It hydrates the skin, restores a healthy glow, and firms and lifts the skin. The antioxidant rich anti-aging ingredients stimulate cell turn-over while simultaneously softening the appearance of fine lines. I immediately note a pronounced clarity, and my skin always looks healthy and glowing after use. I like to apply a thin layer to freshly cleansed skin and leave it on for about 15 minutes so that it has completely dried. I then re-moisten my skin and employ the mask as an exfoliator by gently massaging my skin in a circular motion in order to remove any excess dead skin cells, and the results are always phenomenal.

African Botanics Fleurs d’Afrique Intensive Recovery Oil (Reviewed HERE. $250.00 for 1 oz. from African Botanics, Violet Grey and Net-A-Porter): is a highly concentrated luxury oil that is lightweight in texture and fast absorbing. The texture, is itself, ultra-silky and it leaves skin feeling like the softest cashmere conceived. It has an utterly intoxicating aroma that is a delectable fusion of the Jasmine Grandiflorum, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil, Kalahari Melon Seed Oil and Marula Seed Oil. It is a warm and earthy floral that delights the senses, calms the mind and nourishes the skin. This is an oil to be savored, and the tactile and sensory experience is so exquisite that one immediately slows down to really relish the experiential component of this highly effective ultra-luxe beauty oil.

From its very inception, African Botanics Fleurs d’Afrique Intensive Recovery Oil was envisioned  and conceived as a new type of antioxidant-rich, anti-inflammatory anti-aging oil– the likes of which did not yet exist. Unlike many luxury oils that add water to break down water-soluble actives, African Botanics opted not to dilute the oils, but instead utilized highly potent oil soluble actives. Furthermore, they source rare ingredients of the highest quality from remote locations, and the end result is a staggeringly unique beauty oil that easily rivals the most potent and effective anti-aging serums in the marketplace today.

African Botanics Fleurs d’Afrique Intensive Recovery Oil utilizes a visionary delivery system that allows the ingredients to penetrate the skin deeply in order to effectively nourish the skin, to stimulate skin cell renewal, to restore and regenerate skin and to protect and heal. Furthermore, this unique formula softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while fading hyperpigmentation, and it reduces inflammation and redness.

My skin is notably different in that the overall texture is more even in tone and the small areas of light hyperpigmentation have noticeably faded. My fine lines are softened and my skin appears more taut and lifted. Furthermore, it effectively encourages skin cell-turnover to eliminate dull and dry dead skin cells in order to reveal luminous fresh skin.

This oil balances skin, and has regulated my active T-zone while simultaneously fighting redness and inflammation during my monthly hormonal cycle. I also found it remarkable that it healed a hormonal breakout overnight because of its ability to regulate hormonal skin and radically reduce inflammation.

While I do not have particularly enlarged pores, I have noted that mine are now far less noticeable. Additionally, the pores that have always been prone to clogging on my nose and chin no longer appear congested.

African Botanics claims that African Botanics Fleurs d’Afrique Intensive Recovery Oil will leave skin, "luminous, more youthful with increased firmness, elasticity and clarity" and I can attest to the veracity of this statement. This lovely oil leaves skin soft, supple, hydrated and luminous unlike anything else that I have tried.

For all skin types, including skin exposed to urban stress, pollution, harsh, dry climates, sun damage and is recommended for hormonal, inflamed, mature, unbalanced and sensitive skin.

Concerns Addressed by African Botanics Fleurs d’Afrique Intensive Recovery Oil:

MOISTURIZE:
STEP XVIWarm about a pea sized amount of African Botanics Intense Skin Repair Balm  between your fingertips and massage it in to your face, neck and décolleté. Massage upward and outward in order to boost circulation.

African Botanics Intense Skin Repair Balm (Reviewed HERE. $160.00 for 2 oz. available from African Botanics, Net-A-Porter, Space NKCult Beauty and Violet Grey): is an ultra-luxurious face balm, that is unlike any other beauty balms that you have experienced. It is the perfect ultra-hydrating moisturizer that immediately nourishes and hydrates the skin, reduces inflammation and redness, plumps fine lines, evens skin tone, improves elasticity, firms, and improves overall clarity.

It is extremely concentrated, therefore a pea size amount is all that you need to use for your  entire face, neck and décolleté. Warmed between the hands or fingers, this balm transforms into an exceedingly luxurious serum that melts into the skin effortlessly. The silky texture coupled with the gorgeous aroma, that is a fusion of Jasmine Grandiflorum, Damask Rose and Bergamot, makes using this luxury balm an extraordinary sensory experience.

This nourishing and healing balm is the perfect year-round moisturizer for people with dry and dehydrated skin, but the benefits of its use are so pronounced that I plan to use it all year long on my normal/combination skin. It soaks in the same way that a beauty oil does, and therefore is not unlike using a beauty oil because it liquefies in the same way once  it is warmed up. It soaks in immediately and leaves skin unbelievably soft, supple, hydrated and luminous. If you are left with a greasy residue, then you have neither adequately warmed it up, nor have you used a small enough amount.

Additionally, this unique formula offers healing benefits that effectively treat skin conditions such as acne (or monthly hormonal breakouts) hyperpigmentation and it softens the appearance of scars. People with sensitive, irritated, and damaged skin will be astonished by the immediate soothing and healing properties that are embodied in this potent healing elixir, and won't ever want to be without this seemingly magical balm. This is also a great post-treatment balm that immediately calms down skin that has been subjected to a peel or vigorous exfoliation. I have used it after doing an at-home peel, and after thorough exfoliation, and my skin immediately feels and looks better. My skin can, at times, be rather sensitive, and this balm has proven to be the perfect soothing and calming remedy for just about every skin irritation that I have experienced. It is a multipurpose balm, that boasts extraordinary efficacy, and just so happens to be the perfect face cream. It delivers moisture and nutrients more effectively than any balm that I have tried, and its texture and aroma are utterly addictive. Once you try it, I suspect that you will become as obsessed with it as I am!

STEP XVII: Warm a tiny amount of Marula Résurrection Eye Crème between your ring fingers and then gently pat it into the delicate eye area, and apply any remaining cream to your lips.

Marula Résurrection Eye Crème (Reviewed HERE. $95.00 for 0.51 oz. from African Botanics and SpaceNK): The texture of Résurrection Eye Crème resides somewhere between a healing balm and an eye cream thanks, in part, to the Shea Butter. However, the texture is silky smooth and ultra refined without any of the granular particles typically found in many Shea Butter based products. This lovely eye cream is healing, hydrating and restorative-- leaving the delicate eye area looking refreshed, hydrated, lifted and youthful. It is remarkably concentrated-- therefore the smallest amount delivers noteworthy results. A small spatula is provided in order to avoid contaminating the contents of the jar, but one needs only to scoop out the smallest amount for both eyes.

My fine lines were plumped, the skin was lifted, and it boasted an unprecedented clarity and luminosity. On those days when I don't get enough sleep and wake up with dark circles, Résurrection Eye Crème works wonders on diminishing those unsightly reminders of fatigue-- not to mention that it makes short work of reducing puffiness.

This elegant and understated eye cream can (and should) be used day and night because the results are astounding. However, it is the combination of its extraordinary efficacy, healthy potent ingredients, and its superior visceral tactile and subtle aromatherapeutic sensation that take this eye cream where none have gone before.

Skin Concerns Résurrection Eye Crème Addresses:

• African Botanics Pure Marula Cleansing Oil (30ml)
• African Botanics Mineral Cleansing Mask (20ml)
• African Botanics Marula Shimmering Oil (30ml)
• Handwoven Cosmetic Bag from the Kasaai region of the Democratic Republic of Cong

RECAP OF THE STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS:
STEP I: My first step is to fill the bathtub with warm water, then add a handful of African Botanics Kalahari Desert De-Tox Bath Salts, and then soak for about 15-20 minutes to allow the salts time to absorb into the skin. Without rinsing the skin, wrap yourself in a towel and relax under a warm blanket for 15-20 minutes, and drink plenty of water to rehydrate while relaxing.

STEP II: Before stepping into the shower, dry brush your body to stimulate circulation. I use the Mio Body Brush to effortlessly reveal beautiful soft, smooth and supple skin.

STEP III: After soaking in the bath and dry brushing, the next step in this treatment is to apply African Botanics African Muti Mud Mineral Body Scrub to the entire body, except the face and hair, and leave it on the skin for 10-15 minutes.

STEP IV: Jump in the shower and massage the African Botanics Marula African Muti Mud Mineral Body Scrub into the skin in a circular motion and then rinse with warm water.

STEP VThis step is completely optional, but I like to use the African Botanics Marula Detoxifying Salt & Sugar Body Scrub on my feet, hands and elbows for added exfoliation and moisture because the the raw cane sugar and pink Himalayan Salts work remarkably well in their ability to breakdown dead skin cells on particularly calloused and dry areas of the skin.

STEP VI: The next step is to cleanse any body parts that were not exfoliated, and also to use African Botanics Marula Plantes d'Afrique Shower Cream to shave.

STEP VIIStep out of the shower and lightly pat your skin to remove excess water, but not completely. You want your skin to remain warm and slightly damp when you apply the African Botanics Marula Regenerating Body Hydro-Serum.

STEP VIIISelect the body oil that best suites your needs or desires following the shower and serum. The African Botanics Marula Firming Botanical Body Oil is the perfect choice if you want to lift and firm your skin, The African Botanics Stretchmark Botanical Oil is a perfect choice if you have stretchmarks, and the African Botanics Shimmering Gold Body Oil is a great choice if you are going out for the evening rather than staying home and going to sleep following your treatment.

STEP IX: Massage Marula Botanical Body Cream all over, except on your face, neck, décolleté and hands. While it is sinking into the skin, move on to Step X.

STEP X: Massage African Botanics Marula Botanical Hand Cream into hands and cuticles until it is fully absorbed.

STEP XI: To begin the facial, pump out enough of the African Botanics Pure Marula Cleansing Oil for your face, neck and décolleté. African Botanics suggests massaging it for 1 minute in a circular motion concentrating on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. After massaging, the skin add a few drops of warm water in order to emulsify the oil, and then rinse thoroughly with warm water.

STEP XIV: Apply 2-3 pumps of African Botanics Resurrection Cell Recovery Serum to damp face, neck, and décolleté, and massage it into skin in an upward motion. You can tap a small amount around the eye area, but avoid getting it in your eyes.

STEP XV: Select your favorite African Botanics luxury face oil (Fleurs d’Afrique Intense Recovery OilNeroli Infused Marula Oil or Pure Marula Oil) and massage it into your skin in an upward motion. Be sure that you use enough to cover your face, neck and décolleté.

STEP XVIWarm about a pea sized amount of Intense Skin Repair Balm  between your fingertips and massage it in to your face, neck and décolleté. Massage upward and outward in order to boost circulation.

STEP XVIIWarm a tiny amount of Marula Résurrection Eye Crème between your ring fingers and then gently pat it into the delicate eye area, and apply any remaining cream to your lips.

Overall Assessment: I can think of no better way to pamper yourself than with an African Botanics At-Home Luxury Spa Day. This treatment rivals all professional spa services that I have enjoyed. Their products are categorically of the highest quality, and they rival the efficacy of the highest quality products on the market today.

  1. Loved reading this. I am astounded at the price increase on the Neroli Infused Face Oil! Would love to get some of these new items at SpaceNK during the Beauty Edit coming up shortly. Alas, they are not listed on their website!

    1. Hi Cindy, I am so glad tha you loved reading this! This was a labor of love post! I highly recommend trying it when you need some great pampering! It is so transformative. The Neroli Infused Marula price had to be increased because it is very expensive to make, and they were offering double the amount of product for half of the price. That was the largest, and most affordable luxury beauty oil for such a long time– so this had to happen.

I definitely hope that Space NK adds more of the new products to their inventory!

    1. It really is, Marcia. Interestingly, the products themselves are such a joy to use that I find that I really savor the entire experience when I do it myself! Plus, the results are staggering!

  4. OMG, what a fantastic post, Helen! What an almost impossibly luxurious product line and pampering session! I don't even know where to start. If I could choose one product, I would probably go with the gold shimmering oil. I have never heard of anything like it. And the two scrubs sounded like heaven.

The Marula Shimmering Gold Oil is absolutely AMAZING! It you plan on shopping the upcoming Space NK bag event, you can shop the line to get the iconic Space NK gift bag!
