Barneys New York The Beauty Event at The Grove Featuring Troy Surratt & TATCHA!

The Beauty Event at Barneys New York at The Grove in Los Angeles was amazing fun. I strongly urge those of you who live anywhere near Barneys to attend at least one of these fabulous events-- there are so many wonderful people to meet, and so many noteworthy products in which to indulge! This particular event featured two amazing lines: Surratt and Tatcha.

Attendees were treated to a Tatcha facial by renown esthetician Kyoko Getz, and Surratt Beauty makeovers by celebrated celebrity makeup artists Satya Linak, Maia Wagle & Sonia Marina. Furthermore, Troy Surratt, in all of his infinite charm, greeted guests and introduced them to his extraordinary makeup line (a Barneys New York exclusive).
Upon entering one immediately is struck by the elegance of this event. On the far left Kyoko is shown giving a Tatcha facial.
In the left middle ground, Troy discusses his eponymously named line with a guest.
The gorgeous treats.
Tatcha is an extraordinary skincare line that creates astoundingly effective products with the finest ingredients. According to Tatcha,

Founder Victoria Tsai has been a lifelong seeker of beauty. Her passion for skincare began at an early age when Victoria’s mother shared traditional Asian herbal skincare treatments, which they sold in her family’s beauty boutique. Victoria’s love of discovery has since led her to become a sought-after expert in the field, developing products and brand strategies for the world’s largest beauty companies.

Searching for a new approach to beauty, Victoria began traveling to Asia where a chance encounter in Kyoto with a modern-day geisha changed her course. For over 300 years, Japan’s geisha have been held in awe for their enduring wisdom and breathtakingly beautiful, porcelain skin. Perfected through centuries of timeless rituals, it is widely believed their beauty secrets have been passed down from one generation to the next by word of mouth alone. As she began to immerse herself in Japan’s culture, Victoria unearthed a 200-year-old beauty manuscript. On its ancient pages, she rediscovered the geisha’s coveted daily regimen. Moved and inspired, Victoria founded TATCHA as a way to share these timeless secrets with the modern world.

Traveling back to the City of 2000 Temples (Kyoto), TATCHA works closely with teams of scientists, scholars and geisha themselves to decipher the rituals and ingredients from the sacred beauty text. TATCHA’s formulas pay homage to the icon of Eastern beauty and the brand’s own storied heritage. Now the secrets of the geisha live on through a proprietary process involving the most precious Green Teas, Okinawa Red Algae, Rice Bran and other time-tested ingredients.
Barneys New York at the Grove has a beautifully edited selection of skincare and makeup, and not surprisingly Tatcha is among the lovely brands selected. Nota Bene: I will be doing an in-depth review of my upcoming hour-long Tatcha facial from Kyoko!

These delightful experts are as lovely and kind as they are supremely knowledgeable.
Surratt, an extraordinary line that burst onto the scene when Troy launched his line at Barneys New York in 2013, was quickly recognized as one of the most innovative luxury brands to have hit the marketplace in years. A favorite among makeup artists, beauty bloggers, and the beauty-obsessed alike, this line boasts the most remarkable finely milled textures, rich color saturation, and overall exemplary quality. Troy, who is among the most celebrated and coveted celebrity makeup artists, is a true visionary whose beautifully edited makeup line was the result of many years of intensive research, and inspired by his deep and abiding love of high quality Japanese beauty products. In fact, his painstakingly crafted line is made in Japan with the most exacting standards. No cost was spared in his use of the finest ingredients coupled with the most innovative technologies, and the end result is a line of consistently superior quality. As anyone who has ever tried any of his powder-based products will attest, their smooth creamy texture is utterly peerless. As Troy explained to me, his powder products are made using the Japanese slurry-technology whereby they begin their life as a liquid that is poured and then evaporates leaving behind the most creamy and blendable powder. The textures of these products are utterly sublime, and the tactile experience is so superbly satisfying that one is naturally inclined to reach for these products above all others. Trust me when I tell you, these fetching products will be among your very favorites from first swatch to hitting the pan!
I could play with this line all day long!

Troy himself is one of the loveliest people one could ever imagine meeting. Despite his extraordinarily impressive credentials, among them assisting Kevyn Aucoin for many years, and his status as a true artistic visionary-- he remains exceedingly humble about his accomplishments.
Such things of beauty!

My Surratt picks from the event! I am so happy with my choices. To see the full Surratt line at Barneys, click here (Affiliate Links). I asked Troy to pick a nude pink Lipslique for me, and after he applied Chuchoter (pinky nude) to my lips he said, "that's the one." Naturally I had to have it. I also picked up Fee Soie (a glistening sugar pink) after my friend Rachel (aka The Beauty Professor) handed it to me and said that I had to have it. Troy also selected the blush in Pomponner (dolly pink) along with Aureole (a glistening golden highlighter) that pairs perfectly with Pomponner. Additionally, I selected the Autographique Refillable Liquid Liner in Chat Noir. Troy's products boast a modernist design with eco-friendly minimalist packaging, and his eyeshadow and blush pans can be placed in one of the chic Surratt Palettes for added convenience.
I could not leave without getting one of the few remaining Tatcha Gold Camellia Nourishing Lip Balms (Affiliate Link)-- this stunning luxury lip balm is a work of art unto itself!
A gorgeous gift from Kyoko, Tata & Roman.
There are so many reasons to love Barneys New York, and their events are certainly among them. The surroundings of Barneys New York at The Grove truly lends itself to a more intimate gathering, but with ample space to move around. The beautifully curated collection of luxury brands available at this location makes perusing and shopping an extraordinary experience. Additionally, The Beauty Event was a brilliant concept that highlighted two phenomenal lines in an informative and festive manner. This is the ultimate in luxury niche boutique shopping from a company that always stays ahead of the trends, and that continually seeks to find the most interesting products that are quite often Barneys New York exclusives. Bravo, Barneys!

  1. I cannot tell you how lucky you are to have such a lovely experience! I have a few Surratt products and am about to do another purchase. Please could I pick your brain: I was going to choose Gamine but now you have peaked my interest in Chuchoter?! Is the liquid liner different to the usual like By Terry or Tom Ford? Did you have any picks for the shadows and glosses. I have "narrowed: down my eyeshadow choice to 6 ( I already have 4) - were there any standouts? Since The Beauty Professor raved about his loose powder - I'm as they say lemming something bad:)!

    1. It definitely was a spectacular event! Troy's line is just miraculous, isn't it?! He is such a lovely man-- making those purchases that much more gleeful! Of course you can pick my brain!!! Gamine is a gorgeous warm coral-kissed kind of pink. Chuchoter is a cooler leaning pinky nude. The eyeshadows are definitely drool-worthy and I am obsessed with two in particular: Patine, which is described as a patinated silver, but I would say that it is a taupe leaning patinated silver with multi-colored shimmer. Dore is also an awe-inspiring patinated gold! The textures are so amazingly creamy and ultra finely milled! The Liquid liner is simply brilliant-- the applicator is like a calligraphy pen-- rather than a felt-tip applicator it is an actual brush! It also is refillable, and the cartridges can be purchased separately so there is far less waste. I will start shooting pictures so that I can get my review up quickly! His loose powder is just extraordinary-- the texture is so finely milled that it's just hard to believe that anything could feel this good! The line really is amazing! :-)

  2. Thank you for such a lively account of what was undoubtedly an exceptionally fun day. Your pictures were also first rate. Your bright and natural lighting made me feel like I was actually there looking at all those beautiful products and interacting with all those genial people. The only problem was that those delicious strawberry confections had me salivating all over my keyboard! LOL

Surratt has been on my radar for the past couple of weeks and I keep telling myself I need to make the pilgrimage to Barneys. Things have been busy on the home front; however, and so the trip keeps getting pushed back. I'll make it eventually, though. Your review has inspired me :-)

As for my beloved Tatcha, I've been a Tatcha gal ever since Vicky launched her wonderful and thoughtful line. Not every product is suitable to my particular needs, but every product I've tried has been outstanding in terms of efficacy, elegance, and presentation. And, because the line is so well edited, it is easy to settle upon those products which suit me best. Love Tatcha!

Thanks again for the well-written and beautifully photographed post.

Yes, your beloved Tatcha is extraordinary! Kyoko is giving me one of her celebrated and highly coveted hour long facials this week, and I am beside myself with excitement! It is such a beautifully conceived and executed line!

As always, thank you for your lovely comment!

Have a lovely afternoon! Helen :-)

  3. What a fabulous event. I'd love to have been part of it. The Surratt pictures are amazing. I only wish I could see the line in person.
By any chance is that beauty standing next to Troy Surratt our beloved Lola??

  4. Great writeup, as usual! Sounds like it was a really fun event. I was in NY recently and picked up more Surratt ... another 4 compact of shadows, two more Lipsliques, a blush and another eye baton. Oh, and my first gloss from the line. I really love it; wish it was more widely available.

    1. Thank you for your kind words, intotemptation! It was a really fun event! What a lovely selection of Surratt treasures! What colors did you get? I imagine in time that the line will become more widely available. I'm so smitten with the line and Troy himself! :-)

  5. Would you happen to know what makeup the beautiful young lady (hair in a bun, leather jacket and pink clutch) is wearing? She looks absolutely flawless and exquisite!

    1. Unfortunately I don't know what she was wearing. It was minimal makeup-- with a clear lip gloss. I will tell you that it was not the makeup that made her skin look flawless-- she has the most beautiful skin that I have probably ever seen! She was utterly exquisite, period! I suspect it is a combination of good genes, healthy diet, and taking great care of her skin!
