At-Home Pedicure Tutorial from Skyy Hadley

If you have ever wanted a beauty insider's guide to the best at-home pedicure, then you will love this tutorial from beauty expert Skyy Hadley.

The tools you need to get a spa-like pedicure at home:
· Cuticle remover
· Cuticle pusher
· Cuticle nipper
· Nail clippers
· Nail file
· Nail polish remover
· Cotton balls or pads
· Base and top coat

Here is a step-by-step guide to get the perfect pedicure:
· Apply cuticle remover and allow it to sit for the time indicated on the packaging
· Using a cuticle pusher, push cuticles back away from the base of your toenails. Clean feet with your body wash or soap to wash away cuticle remover
· Use a cuticle nipper to very carefully remove any loose cuticle or hangnails. You don’t want to cut into your cuticles. Nicking this area can lead to infection.
· If necessary, trim nails down to a good length
· Use a nail file to smooth and shape your toenails
· Using a cotton ball or pad, wipe each toenail with nail polish remover to remove excess oils
· Next, apply a base coat to all toenails
· Add nail color, apply two coats
· Clean up, use a nail brush or an orangewood stick and polish remover to remove any polish slips
· Finish by applying a clear top coat to protect your work

To make your feet less rough/sough stick your feet in a tub of warm water for about 15 minutes. You can add a capful of distilled white vinegar and/or a few drops of tea tree oil if you’re concerned about fungal infections. For water retention or particularly achy feet, toss in a couple of tablespoons of Epsom salts. Next, to slough off the dead skin, gently dry your feet, then have at the bottom of your feet with a serious foot file. I recommend using a Ped Egg to get rid of the dead skin.
For applying polish to prevent chipping or smudging reapply a layer or clear topcoat every two to three days.

It has a mild scent that might be described as an amalgam of floral, herbal and peppermint aromas, and while not cloying it does impart a refreshing tingle. It soothes skin, exfoliates dead skin cells and leaves feet remarkably soft, smooth, supple and hydrated.

alessandro Nail Polish in Vibrant Fuchsia ($9.50 for 0.34 oz. from alessandro, Birchbox, beauty.com and Amazon): Vibrant Fuchsia is such a gorgeous shade for the perfect summer mani and pedi combination. I was able to achieve full opacity with two coats, and I found the formula to be long-wearing. I am just about to paint my toes with this beautiful polish.

It has a delicious natural aroma from all of the essential oils used, and it leaves your feet indescribably soft, smooth and hydrated.  I actually used the excess on my hands, and was utterly thrilled by the results.

How to Get Pretty Feet for Summer in Six Easy Steps

If ever there was a time to get winter-worn feet in tip-top shape for the summer months, it would be now.   After much experimentation, I have finally found the Summer Ready Feet sweet spot with a few simple steps. Following these simple steps is remarkably easy and pleasant. The products that I have chosen are my favorites, and they are so lovely to use that they enhance the experience by offering lovely textures and aromas while I prep my feet for the warm weather.

First, I do steps 1 through 5, and then several days later I employ step 6 two to three times a week for maintenance.

STEP 1: EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE, EXFOLIATE! Ridding yourself of rough dead skin is the first step in achieving sandal-ready feet. I love to massage RITUALS Himalaya Sweet Almond Oil & Indian Rose Salt Scrub ($29.00 for 15.8 oz. Reviewed here) into clean dry feet. It feels and smells amazing, and it moisturizes the skin while it removes dead skin. I then wet my hands with warm water and continue to massage my feet for a few more minutes before rinsing them.

Step 2: Wash Feet with RITUALS Fortune Oil Sweet Orange & Cedar Wood ($15.00 for 6.7 oz. Reviewed here). After rinsing the RITUALS Himalaya Sweet Almond Oil & Indian Rose Salt Scrub off of my feet, I like to soak them in warm water infused with Rituals Fortune Oil, and wash my feet with this delectable smelling cleansing oil. If you have had a long day, or if you want to start your day off in a balanced and relaxed way, then I recommend letting your feet soak a little longer. The added benefit is that tough skin will be softer, more moisturized, and easier to further exfoliate. Follow by patting feet dry with a soft and fluffy towel.

Step 3: File Away Rough Skin with the ingenious VAMA Beauty Crystal Glass Foot File ($21.50 from Amazon)! This hefty and durable double-sided crystal foot file has two different abrasive surfaces. One side is coarse in order to effectively remove hard skin and calluses, while the other side offers a finer grit for polishing. It is very easy to clean, and to keep hygienic.

Step 4: Hydrate! The natural antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties found in Coconut Oil makes it the perfect oil for the feet, and that is precisely why I use CapriClear Coconut Oil ($16.99 for 5.2 oz. Reviewed here) in my pedicures. This is a fantastic fast absorbing and fragrance-free oil that is deeply hydrating and leaves the skin is soft and supple.

Step 5: Nourish and Deeply Moisturize! African Botanics Marula Botanical Body Cream ($85.00 for 6.76 oz. Reviewed here) is my very favorite body cream for so many reasons. This beautiful cream boasts an antioxidant and Omega-rich anti-aging formula that deeply nourishes the skin leaving it unbelievably soft, supple and ultra-moisturized. According to African Botanics, it "Nourishes, softens, repairs, regenerates and provides antioxidant defense. Your body is veiled in invisible moisture, which becomes obvious in both the appearance and texture of the skin. Firms and smooths skin tone." It is the most sublime body cream that I have ever used, and it works miracles on the feet. It is preservative and chemical free.

Step 6: Deliver Continued Moisture to Your Feet. A few days following Steps 1-5, I wear the ultra effective Geluxury Moisturizing Slippers ($39.95) to effectively deliver moisture to my feet while I am lounging about the house. I tend to use them between 2-3 times a week for 30 minutes. Geluxury Slippers are infused with 7 therapeutic botanical and essential oils through an ingenious SmartGel lining that releases the oils into the skin.

When you first put on the Geluxury Moisturizing Slippers you notice a rather cool and smooth sensation against your skin, but once they warm up the botanicals become activated and release moisture directly to your feet. Final Tip: DON'T FORGET SUNSCREEN ON YOUR FEET! Once you have painted your toes your favorite shade for the summer, don't leave the house without remembering to cover your feet with a high SPF sunscreen. People often neglect to apply sunscreen to their feet, and it is imperative to protect them since they receive excessive exposure to the sun. I like to use an SPF 30-40, and as is the case with all sunscreens reapplication every 2 hours is important to keep your skin protected.

Overall Assessment: This is a foolproof way to achieve and maintain soft and pretty feet all year long, but your efforts will really be the most noticeable during the warmer months when your feet will be the most visible! Paint your toes and pull out your favorite sandals, your feet are ready now!
