African Botanics was created by Julia & Craig Noik back in 2012. African Botanics is designed, formulated, and made from start to finish in South Africa, paying homage to the cultural history of its people and the vast biodiversity of its landscape. The products thoughtfully combine the unique botanicals native to South Africa with the most cutting-edge skincare technology to create luxuriously effective products that surprise and delight. Along with well-researched lab-syntheized actives, they go the extra mile to use only sustainably and ethically harvested wild-grown and biodynamic botanical ingredients in their formulations, working with independent networks of individuals, and supporting local women-owned businesses whenever possible.

African Botanics Nutritive Molecule Serum ($250.00 for 1 oz. Full size bottle): This is an advanced antioxidant-rich magical potion with Vitamin C that combines the highest quality natural ingredients with advanced biotechnology in order to protect the skin against free-radical damage, to improve the texture of the skin, to lighten dark spots, to help prevent the onset of environmentally induced wrinkles and sun damage, and to brighten the complexion.

Unlike the many Vitamin C-based serums that have flooded the market in the last few years, African Botanics Nutritive Molecule Serum is a brilliantly conceived blend of three different highly stable, and oil soluble, forms of Vitamin C: Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate and Ascorbyl Methylsilanol Pectinate. Its oil solubility is an imperative part of its potent delivery system that enables it to work in conjunction with the Baobab, Marula and Kalahari Melon oils.

This antioxidant-rich serum is very hydrating, and it contains three forms of Vitamin C: Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (THD), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP) and Ascorbyl Palmitate to brighten the skin.

The lightweight texture is fast absorbing, it leaves behind no oily residue, it leaves skin immediately brightened and hydrated, and it has a light aroma from which one can detect a hint of the Baobab and Marula oils.

According to African Botanics,

An extremely rejuvenating serum that incorporates a superior complex of antioxidants and advanced actives to supplement and protect skin against the main types of free radicals: oxygen, carbon and nitrogen while improving skin’s texture, brightening and providing a strong protective barrier against pollution and cellular damage. Formulated for all skin types, this anti-aging serum infuses skin with 3 types of Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Ferulic Acid, Niacinamide, Resveratrol and Yeast Beta Glucan to help accelerate antioxidant activity

Directions: Apply 2 pumps to clean face and neck every morning and evening with uplifting strokes, patting gently on the skin to aid absorption. For best results, use daily.

Select Ingredients & Their Attributes:

• Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate: A stable oil-soluble form of vitamin C that penetrates deep into the skin to brighten and provide free radical protection*.

• Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate: A stable, water-soluble form of vitamin C that functions as an antioxidant and is effective for brightening an uneven skin tone while boosting collagen production with antimicrobial benefits*.

• Ascorbyl Palmitate: Stable and non-acidic form of vitamin C that is effective as an antioxidant. Ascorbyl palmitate is particularly effective at reducing environmental damage*.

• Oxidoreductase: Large group of enzymes that block oxygen in different forms from generating environmental damage*.

• Niacinamide: Vitamin B3 refines the look of pores, reduces the appearance of discoloration, improves skin resilience, and visibly brightens and fights dullness for a radiant, even-looking skin tone*.

• Yeast Beta-Glucan: A potent skin humectant with plumping capacity as hyaluronic acid and is high in antioxidants. It attracts water to the top layers of skin while decreasing the look of wrinkles, redness, and irritation. Some tests have shown beta-glucan is 20% more hydrating than hyaluronic acid at the same concentration*.

• Acetyl Hexapeptide 3: An amino-peptide developed specifically to reduce wrinkles and the signs of premature aging*.

• Resurrection Plant: Rich in polysaccharides, polyphenols and Trehalose sugar molecules address multiple signs of aging: dehydration, fine lines, uneven texture. By enhancing moisture retention, this intensive bio-extract nourishes the skin cells and contributes to skin regeneration*.

• Panthenol: Pro-Vitamin B5 acts as an emollient and lubricant. Panthenol modifies itself biochemically to produce the d-pantothenic acid, essential for a normal tissue function and cellular regeneration*.

• Malus Domestica: Swiss apple, a plant stem cell culture technology that has a positive effect on stem cell growth thus maintaining the growth and the proliferative activity of stem cells with an anti-wrinkle effect.

• Azelaic Acid: Inhibits tyrosinase, which is an enzyme that leads to pigmentation. It's effective on post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne breakouts.

• Resveratrol: Fights free-radical damage with its antioxidant power, minimizing the signs of aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation.

• Silk amino acids: Liquid silk proteins contain essential antioxidants and amino acids that hydrate and nourish the skin, restoring its elasticity and resilience.

• Hyaluronic acid: A natural component of skin, hyaluronic acid molecules hold around 1,000 times their own weight in water, so they are extremely effective at hydrating the skin, plumping and smoothing the complexion to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

• Ethyl Ferulate: Ferulic acid is a skin soothing agent with powerful radical scavenging properties comparable to Vitamin C. Ethyl Ferulate is used for the treatment of premature skin aging and UV-radiation.

• Allantoin: Moisturizes, soothes itchiness, and heals injured skin. Allantoin can increase the water contents of cells, therefore, fighting against the damage of trans epidermal water loss (TEWL) in the dermis, which keeps the skin looking plump and youthful*.

African Botanics Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish ($20.00 for 20 ml, travel size): Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish is a very deep-cleansing facial exfoliator that effectively and efficiently sweeps away impurities and cleans out clogged pores. It is formulated with a combination of Marula Oil, Baobab Oils and Buchu Plant extracts that are punctuated by Micro-Algae and ultra-fine granules of ancient volcanic minerals. The fine granules, which densely populate this exfoliator, efficiently and effectively unclog pores, and remove dead skin cells, excess oils and impurities. Papaya and Pineapple enzymes help to dissolve dead skin cells, aid in cleaning out the pores, and make them appear reduced in size. Skin is left brightened, deeply cleansed and utterly glowing. In fact, the first time that I used it I noticed that it left my skin feeling as soft and silky smooth as ultra-fine velvet. Only the smallest amount is needed to achieve the desired results for the face, neck and décolleté, and the exfoliating particles are so efficient that you do not need to apply any pressure as you massage it into the skin. Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish Skin neither strips the skin, nor does it deplete vital moisture or hydration. Dull, congested skin gives way to youthful, radiant skin that feels amazing to the touch.

Buchu Botanical Enzyme Polish has a wonderful earthy aroma that greatly enhances the sensory experience of using this exfoliator. While it is formulated for most skin types, people with sensitive skin should mix a very small amount with their favorite cleanser. I routinely mix it with Baobab Clay Oxygenating Cleanser when I only want light exfoliation, but I use it alone at least once or twice a week.

According to African Botanics,

Clarifying facial polisher with a powerful combination of physical and enzymatic exfoliation. This gentle polish deeply exfoliates, lifts off dead skin cells and purifies the epidermis to leave skin immaculately clean, soft and radiant without causing irritation. A unique combination of sun dried aromatic Buchu plant and crushed Baobab fruit sourced from the southern tip of Africa are merged with healing Micro-Algae and fine granules of ancient volcanic minerals to visibly refine texture and soften the look of fine lines and dark spots by buffing away dull skin. For sensitive skin, this facial polish can be used as a luxurious mask/peel.

Directions: Apply a small amount as desired and gently massage in a circular motion onto wet face, neck and decollete. Leave on for 2-3 minutes to allow the enzymes to activate. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Use as often as needed. For sensitive skin, mix a small amount with Baobab Clay Oxygenating Cleanser or use a thin layer for 5 minutes as an enzyme mask.

Lactobionic acid is a potent antioxidant that has been shown to target naturally-occurring, skin degrading enzymes to help maintain a youthful look*.
