Gorgeous & Covet-Worthy Prada Prescription-Compatible Optical Glasses

Purchased (Affiliate Links)

I have to confess that I stopped my yearly eye exams during most of the pandemic, and only went back once I was fully vaccinated. I knew that my reading glasses prescription had changed, and so much online time (Zoom, emails etc.) certainly didn't do my eyes any favors. I was in need of new glasses, and I found two from Prada. I hadn't specifically sought out their glasses, but after trying on many, many frames these two were absolutely perfect. I have a pair of their sunglasses, and a very old pair of their reading glasses, and they have lasted more than a decade, so far.

Both come with non-optical demo lenses that are intended to be replaced with prescription lenses. I had my optometrist put my computer and reading lens prescription in the Prada Rectangular Optical Glasses 53mm and my distance lens prescription in Prada Cat Eye Optical Glasses, and I am just smitten with both of them!
Prada Rectangular Optical Glasses 53mm ($262.00 from Nordstrom): These chic black glasses are described as rectangular, but they have a cat-eye sensibility because the corners are slightly angled. They are wonderful quality and very comfortable on the face. They are lightweight enough not to leave any marks on the nose, if they are worn for long periods of time. The Prada logo is subtle, rather than too assertive.

According to Nordstrom,

Tonal logo lettering at the temples makes a subtle statement on these Italian-made optical frames in an impeccable rectangular silhouette.

Details & Care:

  • 53mm lens width; 16mm bridge width; 140mm temple length
  • Fitted with non-optical demo lenses
  • Prescription-compatible
  • Color: Black
  • Acetate
  • Made in Italy
  • Item #6272348

Prada Cat Eye Optical Glasses ($301.00 from Nordstrom): The color of these amazing frames is called Opal Astral, and it is essentially a stunning blue gray shade that does look a lot like the blue found in an opal. It is a bit more complex than one might imagine, and it has a chameleon-like quality that allows its shade to appear a bit different depending upon the lighting and the color of your clothing. These frames are sturdy and elegant, and utter perfection! The logo is in gold lettering, but it isn't too prominent, and my hair covers it most of the time.

According to Nordstrom,

Shapely cat-eye frames elevate these Italian-made optical glasses with a sharp modern style.

Total quality as point of departure, constant innovation without abandoning tradition, searching and selection of materials combined with impeccable manufacturing. These are the product characteristics of this brand, an icon of "Made in Italy," founded by Mario Prada in 1913 and later developed into an international business by Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli.

Details & Care:

  • Shapely cat-eye frames elevate these Italian-made optical glasses with a sharp modern style.
  • 51mm lens width; 17mm bridge width; 140mm temple length
  • Fitted with non-optical demo lenses
  • Color: Opal Astral
  • Acetate
  • Made in Italy

These two pictures give you a better sense of how beautiful the Opal Astral color really is!

    1. The shape of the frames is perfect for my face, and the quality is fantastic. It took no time for my optometrist to fit them with my prescription lenses, and they are just great glasses! I will take a picture of the frames outside in the natural sunlight so that you can see the color better!

  6. How clever. I never thought of doing that. Will in future look for frames outside the optometrist's shop.

    1. Thanks, Hilda! It is definitely a game-changer because if your optometrist has a limited selection of frames, you can find what you want elsewhere and have them fitted with your prescription lenses!
