Erno Laszlo Normalizer Shake-It

Purchased (Affiliate Links)

Erno Laszlo Normalizer Shake-It was a well-known staple for Laszlo customers with Balanced and Combination skin types. In fact, this is among the products known for producing that polished "Laszlo Look." Normalizer Shake-It is basically a pigmented treatment product that doubles as a light to medium coverage makeup. For some reason, Laszlo discontinued this iconic product, but they have brought it back as a Limited Edition release. If you read the comments on their website, you will see that longtime Laszlo users have been pleading with them to bring it back permanently, and I really hope that they listen! I had forgotten just how much I loved this product until I bought this bottle and started using it again.

“Shake-It” Face Make Up uses exclusive “toner with color” technology to control surface oils, conceal blemishes and blot excess moisturizer with a transparent hint of color.

Laszlo suggests that this product is suitable for all skin types, but given that it contains a fair amount of alcohol, I would suggests that those with drier skin types avoid this product altogether. I would also think that it might be too active a product for people with sensitive skin, but for those with balanced/combination/oily skin types it is a very lovely product.

In order to activate and incorporate the tinted pigment into the liquid base you have "shake it" until the contents become completely opaque. Then you saturate your cotton ball and apply it to your skin after you have applied all of your post-cleansing treatment products. I actually like to apply this before my moisturizer has completely soaked in- as it seems to give it a more natural finish. After squeezing the last bits out of my cotton ball I rub and blend until there are no streaks of pigment left. The end result is a smooth and even finish, and skin that appears poreless and flawless. During the colder months I do sometimes find this product a little too drying, so I generally opt for something a bit more moisturizing during the winter.

The shade that I use is Neutral, since it is the only shade that they have relaunched. Hopefully they relaunch all of the colors so that there are more choices. Once you shake the bottle and apply Shake-It to the skin the pigment blends into the skin. However, this shade is really best suited to skin tones from light to medium shades.

They have this vintage seal on th top of the box that will evoke visceral memories for people who used Shake-It years ago!

Overall Assessment: I began using Normalizer Shake-It when I was 17, and I am so happy to have it back in my life. Here's to hoping that they listen to their customers, and they bring it back permanently with an expanded range of shades appropriate for all skin tones. 1. I first used this when I was 17, and used it for years. Then I wandered away to other brands and products. I tried it again about 5 years ago and liked it, but then it was discontinued. I wondered if it would still work for me now, since they relaunched it, and was concerned that it might not because my skin is more balanced and less combination than it was before, but I am am delighted to say that it looks and feels great on my skin, and it isn't drying.
