I have long held that Mario Badescu makes extraordinary products that are both highly effective and affordable. Their products are cruelty-free, fuss-free and top performers. This is such a worthwhile brand with so many great products from which to choose– that it is definitely a brand worth discovering, if you haven't already. Here are a few of their hero products worthy of your attention.
Mario Badescu Lecithin Nourishing Shampoo ($8.00 for 8 oz. from Mario Badescu): This is a shampoo that is perfect for people with dry and frizz-prone hair, therefore it is a great fit for my dry and curly hair. It has a satisfying lather, but it is non-stripping and non-drying, and it leaves hair soft and moist without an undesired oily residue. It has a very light and pleasant aroma, but it does not linger.

According to Mario Badescu,

This is the shampoo for dry, damaged, or color-treated hair in need of a boost. Pamper dry, sensitive scalps with Chamomile Extract as a blend of Jojoba Oil, Lecithin, and other nourishing ingredients attract and seal in moisture. Body is restored to limp hair, leaving your locks soft, manageable, and lustrous.

Features:
- Features Jojoba Oil and Lecithin.
- Restores shine and smooths frizz.
- Leaves hair manageable and silky-smooth.
- Ideal for: Dry, damaged hair and sensitive scalps.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water, Eau), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Chloride, Panthenyl Hydroxypropyl Steardimonium Chloride, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Albumen, Lecithin, Propylene Glycol, Parfum (Fragrance), CI 19140 (Yellow 5), CI 15985 (Yellow 6),

Mario Badescu Hair Rinsing Conditioner ($8.00 for 8 oz. from Mario Badescu and Amazon): This lightweight conditioner nourishes and hydrates the hair without weighing it down, and it does not leave behind a greasy residue. It keeps my frizz at bay and it makes my hair smooth, soft and manageable. It has a very light and pleasant aroma, but it isn't long-lasting.

According to Mario Badescu,

This lightweight conditioner adds shine and brilliance without weighing hair down—making it a universal must-have in every haircare routine. Formulated with botanical extracts and Castor and Jojoba Oils, it nourishes and moisturizes from root to ends for softer, smoother hair.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water, Eau), Citric Acid, Lanolin Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Herbal Extract, Castor (Ricinus Cummunis Seed) Oil, Triethanolmine, Parfum (Fragrance), Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Propylparaben, Methylparaben,

Mario Badescu Nucleic Moisturizing Hair Conditioner ($8.00 for 8 oz. from Mario Badescu and Amazon): This product can either be spritzed on the hair and rinsed out, or it can be left in. I only use it as a leave-in-in because my dry and curly hair requires an extra step of moisture. This fights frizz, detangles hair and leaves it soft and shiny. It has a very light and pleasant aroma, but it does not linger.

According to Mario Badescu,

Restore volume and moisture to dry, fine hair. Nourishing ingredients help soften, smooth, and de-frizz, reviving limp locks so hair is shinier, bouncier, and tangle-free.

Directions: Shake well before each use. Spritz onto wet, clean hair from roots to tips and leave in hair. If product gets into eyes, rinse well with water.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water, Eau), Propylene Glycol, Panthenyl Hydroxypropyl Steardimonium Chloride, Sodium Chloride, Urea, RNA, Parfum (Fragrance), Triethanolamine, Methylparaben, CI 19140 (Yellow 5), CI 15985 (Yellow 6),
Mario Badescu A.H.A. Botanical Body Soap ($8.00 for 8 oz. and $14.00 for 16 oz. from Mario Badescu, Ulta, Macy's and Jet.com): This Alpha Hydroxy Acid body wash effectively exfoliates dead skin cells without any exfoliating particles, and it does so without stripping the skin in the least bit. It has a nice lather and a pleasant subtle aroma and it leaves skin soft and supple. I only use it where I seek exfoliation, and then use a non-exfoliating body wash elsewhere.

According to Mario Badescu,

Refresh your skin with every shower. Our best-selling body wash is infused with fresh fruit extracts to thoroughly cleanse and exfoliate skin. Alpha hydroxy acids found naturally in Grapefruit Extract help rejuvenate dull skin as extracts of Ginseng and Linden leave you feeling revitalized. This is the ideal body wash for all skin types whether you have dull, dry skin or oily, troubled skin.

Directions: Use daily as an all over body wash, avoiding face and eyes. Apply to wet skin with a soft cloth, loofah, or sponge. Rinse thoroughly. If product gets into eyes, rinse well with water.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water, Eau), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Chloride, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Tilia Cordata Flower Extract, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Panthenyl Hydroxypropyl Steardimonium Chloride, Parfum (Fragrance), CI 19140 (Yellow 5), CI 15985 (Yellow 6), CI 16035 (Red 40),

Mario Badescu Special Hand Cream with Vitamin E ($8.00 for 3 oz. from Mario Badescu, Ulta, Nordstrom and Anthropologie): I wash my hands a lot because my profession has me in close proximity to so many people, and I am therefore exposed to germs all year long. Washing my hands means that I routinely dry them out, and therefore I use a lot of hand creams to mitigate the effects of so many harsh hand soaps. This is one of my very favorite hand creams because it is incredibly rich, emollient and moisturizing, but it is also very fast-absorbing and it never leaves behind a greasy residue. It is so effective that I leave a tube in my work bag. It has a light clean fragrance, but it does not linger.

According to Mario Badescu,

Our signature hand cream is a favorite for its rich yet fast-absorbing formula—and now it comes in a travel-friendly tube you can take anywhere you go. A blend of antioxidants and moisture-intensive ingredients provides maximum hydration without leaving hands feeling greasy. Vitamin A, Vitamin E, and Wheat Germ Oils nourish dry skin, absorbing quickly to deliver a moisture boost for soft, silky-smooth hands all day long.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water, Eau), Glyceryl Stearate, Paraffinum Liquidum (Mineral Oil, Huile Minérale), Zea Mays (Corn) Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Propylene Glycol, Cetyl Alcohol, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Retinyl Palmitate, Glycerin, Parfum (Fragrance), Triethanolamine, Propylparaben, Titanium Dioxide, Amyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Alcohol, Citronellol, Eugenol, Geraniol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Isoeugenol, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Limonene, Linalool, Methyl 2-Octynoate, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone.
Mario Badescu Seeweed Cleansing Soap ($14.00 for 8 oz. from Mario Badescu, Macy's, Nordstrom, Ulta and Urban Outfitters): This is a creamy non-lathering cleanser with tiny little seaweed particles that very gently exfoliate the skin. The particles, however, are so refined and small that they do not scratch or irritate the skin, but they still are effective in their ability to remove dead skin cells. It thoroughly cleans the skin without stripping or drying, and it leaves behind no greasy residue. It has a light and refreshing aroma, but it does not linger.

According to Mario Badescu,

Fresh, creamy, and enriched with nourishing marine extracts, this is the ideal face wash for those who prefer a hint of mechanical exfoliation in their daily cleansing routine. Our easy-rinsing formula features tiny seaweed grains to buff away dulling impurities as Bladderwrack Extract (a marine botanical rich in vitamins and minerals) softens and rejuvenates skin.

Directions: Gently massage cleanser in circular motions on wet skin. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and be sure to follow with an appropriate toner and moisturizer. If product gets into eyes, rinse well with water.

Mario Badescu Botanical Exfoliating Scrub ($26.00 for 3.4 oz. from Mario Badescu, Nordstrom, Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Anthropologie and Saks Fifth Avenue): This scrub features an ultra gentle gel formula with finely ground Ecuadorian Ivory Palm seeds coupled with nourishing ingredients such as Ginger, Ginkgo, Green Tea, Aloe, and Coconut. Not only does it effectively removes dead skin cells without stripping the skin, but it also leaves it remarkably baby soft, supple, hydrated and luminous. It has the most delectable fresh green scent that heightens the tactile and aromatic experience– making this scrub a true joy to use.

Directions: Use 2-3 times a week, massage gently on wet skin. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. If product gets into eyes, do not rub. Rinse well with water.

According to Mario Badescu,

Banish dullness and reveal a more radiant complexion. Finely ground seeds of the Ecuadorian Ivory Palm—suspended in a cushiony, gel base—gently polish, refresh, and help prevent pore congestion. Uneven skin tone and texture are refined as a blend of Aloe Vera, Coconut, Ginger, Ginkgo, and Green Tea Extracts hydrate and invigorate skin.

Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Cucumber and Green Tea ($7.00 for 4 oz. from Mario Badescu, Ulta, Amazon, Nordstrom, Bluemercury, Bloomingdale's and Macy's): This hydrating spray  is refreshing and uplifting, and it has a wonderful cucumber and green tea aroma that is delectable. Not only does it hydrate the skin, but it also works as a makeup setting spray. In the hot weather I like to store it in the refrigerator, and I spritz my face, neck and décolleté whenever I seek hydration or a refreshing pick-me-up.

According to Mario Badescu,

Invigorate dull, tired skin with an infusion of Cucumber and Peppermint Essential Waters. This facial mist delivers a cooling boost of hydration as Green Tea provides powerful antioxidant protection—leaving the skin feeling refreshed and revitalized.

Directions: Mist the Mario Badescu Facial Spray onto face, neck, or hair as needed. Use it to infuse more hydration before or after applying moisturizer, as a pick-me-up on the go, or post-makeup application to give skin a dewy finish. If product gets into eyes, rinse well with water.

  1. Mario Badescu is probably one of the greatest bargains in skin and haircare, but oddly enough I haven't tried the brand yet. From what I've heard, "hero" is the right way to describe their products!
