Delilah, The Superhero: Then and Now

It's hard to believe that Delilah was ever such a little baby, but she was indeed.
While her size has markedly changed, her sweetness has not. She is the most kind and affectionate girl who lovingly gazes in to the eyes of her humans for sustained interludes of time between playing catch and tackling Maximus (who, incidentally, often initiates these gladiator games).
She also believes in guarding my feet while I work at my desk-- just in case there is any threat mounted against them. One never knows if, or when, such attacks might take place-- therefore she leaves nothing to chance.
Having lived with Delilah for most of her life, I thought that I was more than adequately aware of her proclivities as well as the things that she finds objectionable. I also believed that I knew everything about her, and that I would most certainly be aware of any "special" attributes or powers that she might possess. However, what I was completely unprepared to learn was that she was a superhero with many rare and magical powers that she kept concealed for our safety. This act of dissimulation, as she feigns the role of a mere mortal canine, protects her family from the secrets that she holds, and the mighty powers that she possesses. I am unclear about the extent of her powers, but the laser beams of light that emanate from her eyes can incinerate her foes, transport beings and things from one place to another, mind-read, and compel people and animals to do as she wishes. I suspect that there is far more to it than that, but given her cagey responses I suspect that I will have to witness more aberrant behavior before she will be willing to read me in on the true nature of her powers. For now, I must be satisfied with what I know, and trust that my canine companion will be safe as she protects her family and friends while on her noble quest. I now suspect that the gladiator games in which she engages with Maximus are all part of some larger plan, and that he is far more than a mere side-kick, but thus far his lips are sealed on the subject. I suppose that time will tell, but for now at least I know that my feet are protected while I work at my desk.

  1. Aww Delilah looks like a sweetie! Is she a pitbull? Her ears kinda remind me of those of a pitbull's, but then again I know very little about dogs in general :p Also, those laser eyes hahaha

    1. She is a pit bull (though some say her dad was a black lab), her mom is definitely a pit. She is a totally sweetie, and super sensitive. If I get upset at anything-- like a crashing computer etc. she gets very concerned and upset and has to make sure that I am okay. Aren't the laser eyes hilarious?!

    1. Hi Monika, She is indeed. You can't because you live in an apartment in NYC that doesn't allow pets, or no time, etc.? I'm so glad hat you love the posts of my animal friends-- they are fun to do, and there is plenty of material to work with between them! <3

  4. Lucky Helen! How gorgeous and kind is Dalilah. Her eyes are utter sweetness and her mighty super hero powers are a sure sign of her divine blood. Dogs eyes are so incredibly talkative and meaningful. Stunning! Maybe I need to ask to see a picture of Dalilah and Maximus playing. That may be too lovely to watch but I think I can take it.
    Happy Wednesday ;)

    1. She is a super sweet girl, and her eyes are unbelievably expressive. Believe it or not I don't yet have a picture of Delilah and Maximus playing, but I have to capture it-- on video would even be better than pictures! I will work on it! xoxoxox

  5. One of my feline masters also has that laser eye thing going on. In her case I feel that there's some sort of heat-seeking tracking ability being utilised (that and she swivels her head about like she's got some sort of radar...) but I've yet to ascertain if this notion is correct. I also fear (of course) that she's using it not for the greater good (or even my own protection) but for her own nefarious kitty purposes.
I lost my beloved pit-lab mix a few years ago. He was a found dog, dumped in my aunt's yard as a puppy, and he was one of the sweetest most gentle creatures to grace the earth. I don't think he had any particular dreams of being a superhero, but he sure was super to me. :)

    1. ROFL!!!!! It sounds as though we have we live with very similar creatures! OMG the heat-seeking tracking ability and swiveling head-- I nearly spewed my water all over my desk and computer while reading that-- AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so sorry to hear that you lost your pit-lab mix a few years ago-- they are just the best dogs ever. So loyal, soulful and loving! So sorry for your incalculable loss! :(

  6. Delilah's face marking is identical to that on my son's little Italian Greyhound. She's black with white legs, tip of her tail, little star on her rump, and the same marking as Delilah on her face. He also has a picture of his little one shooting lasers out of her eyes. Do you think the delightful Delilah and sweet Sophie were twins separated at birth? :-)

    1. Oh, Eileen-- Italian Greyhounds are among my all-time favorite dogs! That Delilah could have an Italian Greyhound doppelgänger makes me smile from ear to ear! I love that she shoots lasers out of her eyes as well. Perhaps Sophie and Delilah cavort about at night together shooting their laser beams when we are all sound asleep! :-)
