Winter weather always precipitates a major skincare product reboot for me, but for some reason this winter has wrought even more havoc on my skin. While my skin is normal/combination, you would think otherwise this season. Therefore, I have been slathering richer and heavier oils, balms and lotions from head to toe. Among my recent product discoveries, that I have been reaching for repeatedly, are two products from Nyakio. In fact, Nyakio Baobab Youth Infused Daily Defense Crème and Nyakio Baobab Lip Balm have proven so effective that I will definitely be repurchasing both (and likely before this winter ends).

About Nyakio:

Global beauty secrets. Cultural traditions. Indigenous ingredients. Baobab oil, derived from the coveted namesake superfuit in Ghana, is rumored to be the preserver of youthful beauty. Nyakio has always been fascinated with the baobab "Tree of Life" due to its high levels of vitamin A, E and omegas 3, 6 and 9. From the leaves to the roots, the baobab tree has been used for generations.
Nyakio Baobab Youth Infused Daily Defense Crème ($35.00 for 1.5 oz. from Ulta): This lightweight antioxidant-rich face cream is nourishing and fast-absorbing, and despite its inherent emollience it leaves behind no greasy residue, whatsoever. It melts into the skin, deeply moisturizes dry and dehydrated skin, and leaves it soft, smooth and supple. There is a very subtle aroma, from the essential oils blend, but it is neither overpowering, nor is it long-lasting.

According to Nyakio,

Give your skin a bounce back. Restore skin's natural glow and enhance protection with Nyakio's Baobab Youth Infused Daily Defense Crème. Enriched with antioxidant-rich baobab oil, this lightweight crème helps defend skin against damaging free radicals.

Nyakio Baobab Lip Balm ($22.00 for 0.50 oz. from Ulta): This is my favorite new lip balm because it has been so effective in its ability to quickly heal my winter-chapped lips. It has a thick consistency, but it effortlessly melts into the lips and spreads, coats and protects them with ease. It isn't in the least bit tacky, and it boasts the perfect amount of cushion for comfortable wear. It leaves lips very soft, smooth, hydrated and healed. There is no discernible fragrance to this lip balm, and therefore it should pose no problem for people with sensitivities to scented skincare products.

According to Nyakio,

Key Benefits:
- Melts instantly for soft lips

  1. Years ago in graduate school, I was told that baobab trees were endangered so I was wary of using products that contained that ingredient. But it seems that things have changed, and I need to try it. Nyakio sounds like a stellar brand that I must try.

    1. That's very interesting! Doing a cursory Google search, it looks as though some of them continue to die off.

  2. On my vanity is my Nyakio eye cream for daytime use. I need to add that lip balm now to my vanity especially since it's fragrance free.
