accént Cleansing Wash & Moisturizing Lotion Review

Press Samples (Affiliate links)

accént creates products that "are mild and gentle enough to be used as often as desired anywhere on the face as well as the body. They are paraben-free, propylene glycol-free, gluten-free, non-irritating, non-drying and non-comedogenic (will not block pores). With only one wash and one moisturizing lotion for daily use, accént is a cleansing and moisturizing system that couldn’t be simpler."

accént products were specifically formulated to soothe and protect dry skin, whether caused by certain skin conditions or the environment, such as weather. If you’re taking prescription medicine for your skin, talk to your physician about using mild, gentle accént Cleansing Wash and accént Moisturizing Lotion as part of your daily skincare routine or in addition to medications used for the treatment of skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis (eczema) or psoriasis.

Among the important ingredients used in accént products:
-Protease Technologya unique blend of plant-based enzymes
-Niacinamideincreases the body’s natural ability to produce ceramides to help repair the skin barrier
Amino Acidsimportant building block of collagen, help restore the body’s natural moisturizing factor (NMF)
-Hyaluronic Acid the most powerful moisturizer known, helps keep skin hydrated

accént Cleansing Wash & Moisturizing Lotion are very gentle on the skin, and I found them to be soothing from head to toe.

One key to accént's gentle formula is their use of Protease Technology:

accént Cleansing Wash and accént Moisturizing Lotion are unique in that they are the only retail cleanser and moisturizer that have incorporated Protease Technology into their formulations.

Proteases are a group of enzymes found in plants, animals and humans. Their activity is vital to several organ systems in the body, including the skin. In human skin, they are involved in the formation of your outermost skin cells on the top layer of your skin (the epidermis), as well as shedding dead skin cells, so that fresh, new cells can take their place.

The plant-based protease enzymes in both accént® Cleansing Wash and accént® Moisturizing Lotion come from natural sources (figs, pineapple, kiwifruit). Fruits such as these all contain protease enzymes, which are known to speed up the breakdown of proteins. These fruit enzymes have many uses, such as tenderizing meat, treating wounds, and serving as dietary supplements.

Ficin (figs): "Figs have a prominent place in ancient history. In fact, Sumerian tablets recorded the uses and consumption of figs in 2500 BC. The fig is mentioned in Greek mythology, and Plato documented that Greek athletes at Olympia were fed figs to increase their running speed and overall strength. Several references to figs are found in the Bible. Today, the protease enzymes in figs are used as a meat tenderizer and a taste enhancer."

Bromelain (pineapple): "Pineapples have been used for centuries in Central and South America to treat indigestion and reduce inflammation. Bromelain, the mixture of protease enzymes found in pineapples, is derived from the stem and juice of the fruit. Some studies have suggested that bromelain may benefit the treatment of people with various types of burns. (Note: Severe burns require a doctor’s care. Bromelain should not be applied to broken skin.)"

Actinidia Chinensis fruit extract (kiwifruit): "Kiwifruit was originally known as the Chinese gooseberry, since it is native to China and Taiwan. Today, it is cultivated throughout the world. It has been used in China as the basis for a flavorful wine and has a long tradition of use as a beverage. In some cultures, the juice is used as a meat tenderizer. The main protein component of kiwifruit is actinidin, a protease enzyme similar to that in figs and pineapple."

accént Cleansing Wash: I have to confess that testing the claims as to whether or not the accént Cleansing Wash was gentle enough to use on the face left me somewhat concerned. In the past all-in-one cleansers have seldom worked for my skin, and I thought that this would prove to be a similar experience. However, I was not just surprised, but frankly blown away by just how gentle accént proved to be. This fragrance-free formula left my skin feeling thoroughly cleansed, soft and supple-- but not at all stripped. I then tried it with my Clarisonic and was similarly impressed by its ability to thoroughly and gently cleanse my skin. I have used it head-to-toe (save for my hair), and it is really just as gentle as accént claims. I will continue to keep a bottle in my shower long after I finish this one! I even tried it for shaving, and it was perfect for my sensitive underarms!

accént Cleansing Wash is an essential part of daily skincare. Protease Technology from plant-based enzymes, combined with amino acids and advanced moisturizers, help hydrate and nourish dry, flaking skin.  This gentle formulation softens as it cleanses.

Ingredients: Purified Water, Sodium C14 16 Olefin Sulfonate, Arcrylates Copolymer, Sodium Cocoyl Apple Amino Acids, Ficin, Bromelian, Niacinamide, Proline, Glutamine, Disodium EDTA, Dimethicone Copolyol, Biotin, Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Fruit Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Butylene Glycol, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Bisulfite, Citric Acid.

accént Moisturizing Lotion: I was similarly inclined to suspect that accént Moisturizing Lotion would be more well-suited to my body than to my face, but was beyond elated to find that this product did an exemplary job as a facial moisturizer. The formula is fragrance-free and completely non-greasy. It leaves the skin feeling balanced, deeply hydrated, nourished and super soft. The texture is light, and I find that it sinks in quickly. I like the way that my face feels after use, but also really love the way that it makes the rest of my skin feel. When I apply it from head-to-toe in the morning- I am thrilled to report that my skin remains hydrated all day long (I did, however, need to reapply lotion to my hands because of frequent hand washings).

    1. Hi Linda, Thank you for reaching out. I haven't seen this brand in many years. I think that it may have originally been a CVS brand, and looking around online– it appears to have vanished. The last reviews seem to be consistent with mine, and therefore are about 7 years ago. :-(
