Aftelier Perfumes Wild Orange Face Elixir with Cedarwood and Patchouli: Review

Press Sample (Unaffiliated links)
Aftelier Perfumes Wild Orange Face Elixir with Cedarwood and Patchouli is the most unusual and exotic of Mandy's otherwordly luxury Face Elixirs. Indeed it has the most assertive personality among her four glorious golden face oils. As is the case with all of Mandy's magical creations, the genius is found in her unexpected juxtapositions of scents that together form the most unimaginably unique and inventive works of art.

Aftelier face, body and bath products are a luxurious combination of fragrance and richly nourishing ingredients. Each product is blended with a purpose, whether to relax, soothe, invigorate, or elevate.

Perfect for both men and women, these anti-oxidant rich face elixirs comfort your skin and promote cell regeneration. This lightweight formula absorbs easily, immediately moisturizing, softening, and conditioning. Use on your clean face before bed, and drift off to sleep in a light veil of fragrance that promotes relaxation. When you wake up, your skin will feel wonderfully nourished and revitalized. For men, use after shaving to nourish your face.

Mandy creates them from the following organic oils:
-Organic grapeseed and organic sweet almond, rich in vitamins and minerals, helps tone the skin
-Organic rice bran oil reduces the formation of wrinkles and slows down aging
-Organic squalene helps hydrate and protect the skin, encourages regeneration of healthy skin cells, and prevents premature aging of the skin
-Organic camellia oil, rich in anti-oxidants and vitamin E
-Organic rose hip oil improves elasticity and has a rejuvenating effect on the skin

Wonderful for both men and women as a restorative treatment for the face: easy to use, non-greasy, and great for travel. This lightweight formula absorbs easily, immediately moisturizing, softening, and conditioning. Featuring wild sweet orange, cedar wood, and aged patchouli, our face elixir is in a base of the following organic oils: rice bran, sweet almond, apricot kernel, camellia grapeseed, squalene, and rose hip seed oils. The oils are chosen for their ability to promote cell regeneration and for their beautiful aromas. Use on your clean face before bed and drift off to sleep in a light veil of fragrance that promotes relaxation. When you wake up, your skin will feel wonderfully nourished and revitalized. For men, use after shaving to nourish your face.

Orange Oil is known to be an anti-bacterial and astringent oil used to tone the skin. It is also said to be replenishing for dry, sun damaged, and mature skin types.

Cedarwood Oil is used as a tonic and moisturiser, but is also said to regulate sebaceous glands. It is often used to help treat acne and dandruff. The antiseptic qualities inherent in Cedarwood coupled with its warm woodsy scent have long made it a popular ingredient for men's shaving and post shaving products.

Patchouli is known for its ability to help treat the following skin conditions: acne, eczema, chapped or dry skin, and inflammation or irritation. It is often touted to have potent anti-aging skin properties, and is said to reduce scars because it is able to aid in cell-rejuvenation. Patchouli is also said to be effective as an anti-fungal treatment- thereby making it effective in the treatment of athlete’s foot. Some people report using it to fight dandruff as well.
My experience: Wild Orange Face Elixir with Cedarwood and Patchouli is a hauntingly beautiful luxury face oil, and it is unlike anything that I have ever tried. It has an assertive personality due to Mandy's truly visionary commingling of Wild Sweet Orange, Cedarwood and Aged Patchouli. While one can detect each of these scents in this heady brew they temper one another so effectively that their union creates something far more magical than the individual oils are capable of producing on their own.

For those who find Patchouli to be too pungent and heady, be advised that this Patchouli is not only tempered by the other scents present, but that it isn't an ordinary Patchouli to begin with. Most of the Patchouli oil that we as consumers are privy to tends to be of inferior quality. However, Mandy spares no expense in finding the highest quality Aged Patchouli available, and of this you can be assured (as your nose will quickly attest).

As with the other Aftelier Face Elixirs, Wild Orange Face Elixir with Cedarwood and Patchouli magically sinks into the skin immediately, and it nourishes and moisturizes with remarkable precision. It is so fortifying for the skin that you really don't need to use any other moisturizers or serums at night, and the proof is in seeing your gorgeously glowing skin the following morning. The aromatherapeutic effect is rich and calming to the senses, and the scent lingers for hours.

Mandy's four Face Elixirs each have very unique personalities, and I choose which to use based upon my mood. Each one is a masterpiece in and of itself, and I simply cannot imagine living without any of them.

My reviews of the remaining three Aftelier Perfumes Face Elixirs:
Paul Gauguin. Still Life with Oranges (1881). Musée des Beaux-Arts.
Overall assessment: I am continually amazed by the skincare miracles that Mandy performs. It truly takes the creative genius of one of the foremost perfumers in the world to create such otherworldly luxury face oils. They not only exceed every expectation, but they do so unlike anything else that you have experienced, or imagined for that matter. Aftelier Perfumes is peerless in the magical juxtapositions of disparate scents that together create the perfect sensory unions. Mandy's alchemical mastery will astound you- it is unlike anything that I have ever experienced. Wild Orange Face Elixir with Cedarwood and Patchouli is yet another masterpiece on Mandy's celebrated list of achievements.

    1. I am so touched and honored that you feel that way, Mandy! It is I who feels charmed to know you, and to have the great fortune to use your alchemical masterpieces. What you do is just so extraordinary that I find it difficult to describe your treasures in any way that even approaches a true expression of their magnificence! xoxox, Helen

  2. Wow. I don't know how I missed these reviews before. I can't wait to try these! I'm tempted to order the smaller size of all four to see which one gives me the best results.

    1. Hi Kate, Trying the small sizes is a great idea. These Face Elixirs are extraordinary treasures. I swear to you- everything that Mandy Aftel makes is a masterpiece. She is a true visionary! You just can't go wrong with anything that she makes. One lovely thing about her Face Elixirs is that they are VERY concentrated, and I only ever apply them to warm slightly damps skin which makes a tiny tiny bit go a very long way! I can't wait to see what you think of them!! Keep me posted! :-)

    3. Be prepared to fall far far down the Aftelier Perfumes rabbit hole-- there really is no way back (not that you would want to go back). Every single thing that I have tried from her line is simply outstanding. You will most certainly be delighted! I can't wait to hear your impressions!

  3. Sorry to put you on the spot, but you've made all these sound so enticing. I'm very scent oriented, so I'm just curious; if you had to pick just one, which would be your favorite?

    1. HI Cynthia!

That is a very very difficult question because I TRULY love them all, and they are all quite enticing!! If I had to choose just one it would probably be the Rose Elixir-- at least this week! It's not that it is better than the other three-- it's just that it is by far the most beautiful and unusual rose that I could have ever imagined, and for some reason I am in a Rose mood these days.

That said, I think that it depends on what scents resonate with you personally. Each one of these Elixirs has a very distinct and unique "personality" and each one is astonishingly beautiful and so joyous to use. There is something very magical about the way that Mandy unites seemingly incompatible scents-- into breathtaking creations. She is a true visionary. You could always do what Kate MacDonald is talking about doing- and purchase the small size of each to see which works for you. Keep me posted- I would love to hear what you decide! :-)
