Empties Galore for May 2021

Purchased and Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

May came and went so fast that I can hardly grasp the speed with which it flew by. I have continued to use up opened products before they go bad, and I have tried to reduce the overall number of products that I use at any given time. I am trying to be more mindful, less wasteful and more sustainable in my practices. I have also found that one of the small pleasures is using things that I really enjoy, and therefore the in the last few months you have probably noticed the large number of luxury products in my empties posts.

African Botanics Pure Marula Cleansing Oil ($60.00 for 3.4 oz. from African BotanicsNet-A-PorterRevolve and Credo Beauty): This lightweight oil is an antioxidant and omega-rich oil that was formulated to gently cleanse and purify even the most sensitive skin types while removing makeup, dead skin cells as well as pollution and other impurities. It is so gentle and effective that it neither dehydrates the skin, nor causes irritation. It is suitable for combination, sensitive and dry skin types. Repurchase? I definitely will once I finish up a few more of my open bottles of cleansing oil!

Erno Laszlo Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar ($40.00 for 3.4 oz. from Erno LaszloNordstromSephoraViolet GreySaks Fifth AvenueRevolveAmazonb-glowing and Look Fantastic): Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar does an exceptional job cleaning and exfoliating my skin, and it does so without drying, stripping or irritating. Skin is left soft, clear and luminous, and while it is now said to be formulated for all skin types, it used to be for normal, combination and oily skin types. I would say that dryer skin types would only use it periodically for its deep cleaning and exfoliating abilities, but not as a daily soap. I do like to use it with a cleansing oil, but sometimes I use it alone. My one grievance is that the bar used to be a hefty 6 oz., which was far more satisfying to use, and now it is nearly half the size. Repurchase? I already have!
REN Moroccan Rose Otto Body Wash ($30.00 for 6.8 oz. from RENSephoraSpace NK and Bloomingdale's): This is a soothing and delicately fragrances body wash that not only smells utterly delicious, but it also hydrates, soothes and thoroughly cleanses the skin. It is perfect in the shower or bath, and it is emollient enough to use for shaving your legs! Repurchase? I am just about to open another bottle! I LOVE this so much!

Mustela Gentle Cleansing Gel ($16.99 for 16.9 oz. from MustelaTargetCVS and Amazon): is an ultra-gentle cleansing gel that forms a very satisfying lather. It thoroughly and gently cleans without stripping or drying the skin. It leaves skin soft and hydrated, and can be used as a shampoo and body cleanser. It has a very pleasant, warm and creamy aroma, but it isn't powerful or long-lasting. It is currently my favorite body cleanser, and it emollient enough that I can use it for shaving my legs and underarms. Repurchase? I have a fresh bottle waiting to be opened!
Fruits of the Islands Toasted Coconut Glycerin Loofah Bar: Several years ago, a very good friend of mine bought me several glycerin loofah bars while on vacation in Hawaii. These appear to have come from a candy company, and they do not appear to sell these anymore, but there are many other companies who produce glycerin soap infused loofahs. They offer such a wonderful way to clean and exfoliate at the same time, and they are great for hand washing as well as bathing. Repurchase? I have one left, and will definitely consider purchasing more in the future.
Spongellé Hand Defense Hand Wash Infused Buffer ($14.00 each or $56.00 for a 4-pack from Spongellé): Spongellé Hand Defense is a wonderful new addition to the Spongellé line, and this launch offers a perfect way to thoroughly wash hands during the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, you won't mind how often that you need to wash your hands given that these soap infused sponges thoroughly clean and exfoliate, plus they get into every hard to reach spot. Additionally, they don't strip the skin, but instead they leave it hydrated, soft and smooth. The four available scents are delicious, and the creamy lather is incredibly satisfying to the touch. Spongellé suggests that each sponge offers 40+ washes, but I always find that I get more washes out of all of their products than they suggest. Repurchase? I have three more to use before I will need to purchase more.

Biosilk Antibacterial Hand Soap ($6.99 for 12 oz. from Chi): This non-stripping antibacterial soap, with aloe, lavender and silk, smells heavenly and leaves hands soft and hydrated. The light lavender aroma is very pleasant, but it isn't in the least bit overpowering. Repurchase? Definitely! It made washing hands very pleasant!

Molton Brown Rhubarb & Rose Replenishing Hand Cream ($15.00 for 1.4 oz. from Molton Brown and Nordstrom): I am completely obsessed with this hand cream because it is fast absorbing, unbelievably nourishing and hydrating, and because it smells heavenly. It leaves my hands unbelievably soft and supple, and the delectable scent lingers, but is never cloying. It is a beautifully articulated fruity floral that offers the perfect balance between the zesty citrus, Rhubarb and the Rose extract. In my book, this is hand cream perfection. Repurchase? I just opened another tube!

Rahua Hydration Shampoo ($34.00 for 9.5 oz. from RahuaDermstore and The Detox Market): Many shampoos claim to be moisturizing, but seldom do they deliver on such promises without leaving behind an unpleasant greasy residue that weighs hair down. Rahua, on the other hand, has in this wondrous shampoo created a delectable cleanser that has a rich and creamy lather that hydrates, rather than strips dry hair, and it never weighs it down. The first thing that you will undoubtedly note, aside from the incredible lather, is the delicious passion fruit and mango aroma– seriously, it smells so good that I often just open it up to have a sniff! The ultra-nourishing shampoo not only hydrates unruly tresses, but it also effectively fights frizz and leaves hair with a lovely shine. If you have straight hair, this is a bit easier to achieve, but if you have naturally curly hair it is a far greater challenge. If you have dry hair, frizzy hair or over-processed hair, then this is a really great shampoo choice for you. Repurchase? Eventually, but I am currently swimming in shampoo!

Rahua Hydration Conditioner ($36.00 for 9.3 oz. from RahuaDermstoreThe Detox Market): This deeply moisturizing conditioner is perfection for dry, frizzy, damaged hair. It delivers intense hydration without leaving behind a greasy residue, or weighing down hair, and it soothes the cuticle while fighting frizz. I love to apply it and then comb it though from roots to tips, and leave it in for the duration of my shower before rinsing it out. The delectable passion fruit and mango scent is such a treat to the senses, and it lingers in the hair for a little while– though I wish it would linger all day. The first time that I used it I was astonished by the extent to which this lovely conditioner tamed my frizz, deeply nourished and hydrated my hair, and left it with a glossy shine. It also makes my hair very manageable, and leaves my curls with the most lovely soft and glossy ringlets. Repurchase? Just as soon as I need another conditioner, but that is going to be quite some time!

Yves Saint Laurent Gloss Volupté 20 Nude CaratI have always loved lip glosses, but I really prefer them to be lightweight, non-sticky and beautifully shiny. This gorgeous gloss was an exquisite golden peachy nude with golden shimmer, and I loved every second that I used it. It appears that YSL has discontinued these glosses, and while I am sad I have two other shades that I will enjoy wearing. Repurchase? I might have once I had used the others, but now we will never know!

Overall Assessment: I am not sure that I will be able to finish up nearly this many products next month, but I will certainly try to use up products before opening, or buying more. What did you use up, toss out, give away or return in May? Any great discoveries or real duds to report?

Makeup Wars! Summer Lip Colors to Covet

 Affiliate Links

I was so excited when the Makeup Wars! Team decided that we would feature our favorite summer lip colors, and my choices were immediately obvious to me. I just took one look in my makeup bag and knew that I would feature Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Lipsticks and Yves Saint Laurent Gloss Volupté. These beauties are my current most-reached-for lippies, and therefore I knew that they would be the subject of this collaboration.
As I have mentioned repeatedly in these virtual pages, I have been madly in love Linda Rodin's entire Olio Lusso line since I began using it years ago, and Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Face Oil steadfastly remains one of my all-time favorite luxury face oils. Therefore, I knew that her lipsticks would be a must-have for me.

According to Rodin Olio Lusso,

As Linda Rodin sees it, glowing skin and the right lipstick negate the need for other types of makeup. Linda's so simple, yet so luxe, her morning routine goes like this: First she spreads a few drops of RODIN olio lusso Face Oil on her still damp face. Next Linda applies one of her five pigment-rich lipsticks, depending on her mood and sometimes her outfit, then she’s out the door.
Available in 5 stunning shades:
So Mod: Pink Nude
Winks: Hot Pink
Tough Tomato: Orange Red
Billie on the Bike: Violet Berry
Red Hedy: Hollywood Red

So Mod: "Linda's nod to her Twiggy moments in the Mod 1960w and her simultaneous infatuation with Brigitte Bardot. So Mod is a nude yet rosy pink that evokes another look with the same impact as the other shades but in a very different way: Linda knows the power of a change up and So MOD was invented for those moments."

Winks: "A shockingly hot pink named after Winky, Linda's constant companion– her adorable and charming silver grey poodle. Optically exciting, winks2 is a showstopper and a very alive and striking shade.”

Tough Tomato: "A fabulous bright orange red makes most skin tones come to life. Tough Tomato emanated confidence and glamour and is one of Linda's favorite go-to colors."

Billie On The Bike: "Inspired by Linda's mother Beatrice, aka "billie2," this violet berry is the shade she wore to ride her bicycle, work in the garden or do just about everything! She was forever glamorous!" This universal shade can be worn in one layer for a sheer stain of color or multi-layered for a darker, more statement mouth."

Red Hedy: This is a classic Hollywood red named in honor of Hedy Lamar, whom Linda has always found to be completely compelling for her surprising double careers as an accomplished film star in the 1930s and '40s, and as an inventor of technology that helped defeat the Axis power's gaming of Allied radio communications during World War II. Brains and Beauty! Beauty and Brains!"
Key Ingredients:
• Jasmine & Neroli Olio Lusso blend, the purest luxury oils available
• Rose Flower and Lavender Flower Wax
• Vitamins C and E for nourishing and healing delicate lips
• Apricot, Argan and Meadowflower seed oils
Left to Right: So Mod, Winks, Tough Tomato, Billie On The Bike and Red Hedy

$38.00 for 0.14 oz. from Rodin Olio LussoNordstromBarneys New Yorkb-glowingNet-A-Porter and Beauty Habit
According to Linda Rodin,

I feel a bit naked without lipstick. My mother never left the house without it. She’d be putting on lipstick in her nightgown and coat driving us to school at eight in the morning! She made me aware of the beauty of lipstick at a young age. I personally curated every aspect of this collection from the lipsticks’ brilliant, richly pigmented colors, to their creamy soft matte texture, to the chicly modern, clear square case. Naturally, they are infused with my luxury oils, the cornerstone of RODIN.
Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Lipstick in So Mod is a stunning pink nude that is Linda Rodin's chic nod to the iconic mod 1960s of Twiggy and Brigitte Bardot.
This gorgeous lipstick, which is infused with Olio Lusso, boasts an ultra creamy texture, stunning pigmentation, and a dries down to a soft matte finish with dimension. Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Lipsticks glide across the lips effortlessly, deposit color evenly, melt into your lips perfectly, and they neither bleed, nor do they settle into lip lines. RODIN Olio Lusso Luxury Lipsticks are long-wearing, very comfortable on the lips, have the perfect amount of cushion, and aren't in the least bit drying. In fact, the blend of 11 oils, that are used in Olio Lusso, provide luscious hydration and nourishment. There is no discernible taste or fragrance, and therefore this lipstick formula should pose no problem for those among you with a sensitivity or aversion to fragrant lipsticks.
The chic clear packaging echoes Linda's love of vintage Lucite.
I have always loved lip glosses, but I really prefer them to be lightweight, non-sticky and beautifully shiny. It should, therefore, come as no surprise that I absolutely adore the Yves Saint Laurent Gloss Volupté formula, and among my favorite, most-used shades are: 2 Or Saharienne, 19 Rose Orfèvre and 20 Nude Carat. All three of the shades that I selected are more sheer-leaning glosses that do impart a lovely wash of color. They can be worn alone, or top your favorite lip liners and lipsticks.

2 Or Saharienne is a dusty rose with golden shimmer
19 Rose Orfèvre is a warm pink with golden shimmer
20 Nude Carat is a golden peachy nude with golden shimmer

The Gloss Volupté formula is very lightweight and comfortable on the lips, it boasts the perfect amount of cushion, but it is able to cling to the lips without the least bit of stickiness. Furthermore, it boasts a gorgeous shine that is punctuated by a luminous shimmer that is tastefully done, rather than overdone. I get several hours of wear out of a single application, and find that the novel shaped applicator lends itself to easy application. The pointed tip is perfect for lining the lips, while the wider area fills in the lips effortlessly. It should be noted, however, that the Gloss Volupté formula has the distinct fruity scent and taste for which YSL is known. I do find that the taste fades fairly quickly, but if you are sensitive to fragrance, then you should go smell them before making the purchase.
According to YSL,

Yves Saint Laurent premieres the first light weight non-sticky lip gloss. A precious liquid, light yet intensely glossy, its ethereal texture is a celebration of pleasure that invites indulgence. In a breath of life, lips are filled with a reflective and radiant color. The unique patented applicator envelops the lips in full color and allows for a precise application.

Tips: Apply the Golden top coat to add a dazzle of glitter, Pure top coat  for intense shine, or the Smoking top coat for a day to night look. The unique patented applicator envelops the lips in full color and allows for a precise application. Gloss Volupte is available in 23 irresistible Shades.

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-In-Stick Lipstick in N° 44 Nude Lavallière | Review and Swatches

 Purchased (Affiliate Links)

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-In-Stick Lipstick in N° 44 Nude Lavallière is my latest YSL lipstick crush, and I thought it wise to review it before it ends up in an Empties post! The formula is described as, "an oil-in-a-stick, medium-coverage lipstick with an innovative texture that provides high-performance color and irreverent shine while it conditions the lips."
Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-In-Stick Lipstick is an oil-infused lipstick that resides somewhere between a lipstick and a tinted lip balm, and the formula imparts a gorgeous wash of color and shine while hydrating your lips. It glides across the lips effortlessly, deposits color evenly, and it neither feathers, nor migrates. It has the perfect amount of cushion to provide comfortable wear, and while it is quite emollient, I do find that I can get a couple of hours of wear from a single application. If, however, you are having a beverage there will be a balmy transfer to the glass.

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-In-Stick Lipstick in N° 44 Nude Lavallière is a pinkish nude brown that is quite sheer, but it does offer some pigmentation. This particular shade does not really lend itself to a tremendous color payoff, because it is a light nude-leaning pinky brown, but it does build somewhat after a few passes. It does have the quintessential fruity mango YSL aroma, but I have to say that it completely disappears after about 5 minutes, and therefore will not likely bother people who don't like fragrance in their lip products. This gem of a lipstick leaves my lips soft, smooth, supple and hydrated. In fact, I am so smitten with the formula that I am trying to figure out which shades to purchase next!
According to YSL,

Formulated with 65 percent oils, the deeply hydrating texture instantly melts into lips, creating a pop of color, instant moisturization, and all-day comfort. After four weeks, lips appear healthy and more nourished. This lip formula delivers six oils for six benefits: hydration, high shine, comfort, ultra-melting, luminosity, and smoothness. Infused with Yves Saint Laurent's additive, signature mango scent, these lipsticks are good enough to eat. Now in 30 shades that in a range of modern neutrals, playful pinks, and intense berries, they’re perfect for every lip mood.

Antioxidants in natural extracts of pomegranate and rosemary reduce the look of fine lines, while candellila resin forms a thin, protective layer to help lock in moisture and magnify color and shine. Mineral pigments provide bright, vibrant color and a melting formula (instead of a solid stick) enabling smoother glide-on application and an ultrafine lightweight film on lips. Hyaluronic acid spheres hydrate and soften lips to help seal in moisture for up to eight hours of hydration.
Beauty Tip: Help define edges for the perfect lip look with the right lip liner, or mix to create your own custom color.

Overall Assessment: If you are seeking a moisturizing lipstick that feels like a lip balm, then Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-In-Stick Lipstick is a formula worthy of your consideration. I, for one, am in love!

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick in Nude Beige | Swatches and Review

Purchased (Affiliate Links)

Nude lipsticks are my greatest obsession, and finding one that does not wash you out and make you  look like the queen of the zombie apocalypse can be a challenge. To date, my very favorite peachy pink nude has been TOM FORD Beauty Lip Color in Nude Vanille (Reviewed HERE), but I must say that I recently purchased Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick in Nude Beige, and I am madly in love with it! While it too, is a peachy pink, it is a bit deeper and darker than Nude Vanille, but it is definitely in the same color family.
The consistency of Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick is very creamy, buttery soft and silky smooth. It glides across the lips like a dream, deposits opaque color evenly, and  it neither settles into lip lines, nor does it bleed.  It boasts a gorgeous sheen, is very comfortable on this lips, and I find it lightly moisturizing, rather than drying. Nude Beige, which is described as a, "creamy neutral beige" is a stunning peachy pink nude that is infinitely flattering on the skin, and it can be sheered out for a natural wash of color, or built up for maximum opacity. I get about 3 hours of wear before I need to reapply it, but if I apply it over a more matte textured lip balm it increases the wear-time significantly. While it has the well-known YSL sweet, fruity scent, I find that it fades soon upon application.
According to Yves Saint Laurent,

An object of desire, this award-winning lipstick is wrapped in a romantic, elegant gold case that exudes luxury. Each signature shade saturates lips in captivating color that's intensely pigmented, and imparts an irresistible glossy shine. The long-lasting, comforting formula is highlighted with a unique Color-shine Complex that leaves lips visibly smoother, plumper and more radiant. Light, silky texture smooths on a veil of satiny, sensual color that's altogether alluring.
Ingredients: Octinoxate (Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate), Avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane) (Other): Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Butyl Stearate, Butyloctyl Salicylate, Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Polyethylene, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Dimethicone, Titanium Dioxide, Cera Microcristallina (Microcrystalline Wax), Cera Alba (Beeswax), Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil Extract, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Stearyl Stearate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Oryzanol, Ammonium Glycyrrhizate, Parfum (Fragrance), Behenic Acid, Paraffin, Glyceryl Stearate, Lecithin, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Butylene Glycol, Rosemary (Rosmarinus Officinalis) Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Hexylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Citric Acid, Limonene. Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick in Nude Beige compared to TOM FORD Beauty Lip Color in Nude Vanille. The outer swatches are sheered out, whereas the center swatches are built up for greater opacity. Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Silky Sensual Radiant Lipsticks also contains an SPF 15 for sun protection!
Overall Assessment: I am completely in love with Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick in Nude Beige! This is one of my happiest purchases of 2016! A+
