Trader Joe's Sunscreen Lip Balm SPF 30 Review

Purchased (Unaffiliated Links)

By now, you can surely see a purchasing pattern: I go grocery shopping at Trader Joe's peruse their beauty aisle, and invariably come home with some new find(s). That is precisely what happened a few days ago when I picked up the Trader Joe's Sunscreen Lip Balm SPF 30. It wasn't as though I really needed another lip balm, but I did want one with sunscreen. It is already feeling like summer here, and as a huge proponent of sunscreen use, I really want to keep my lips as well protected as the rest of my skin. This is a very hydrating lip balm that is emollient and that has the perfect amount of cushion for comfortable wear. It contains chemical, rather than mineral, sunscreens that offer an SPF 30. It has a very light citrus aroma, but it is neither long-lasting, nor is it unpleasant. At $2.99 for 0.17 oz., it is a good deal and from a brand that you can trust. If, however, you prefer mineral to chemical sunscreens, then this lip balm isn't for you.
According to Trader Joe's,

Trader Joe’s Lip Balm protects the sensitive skin around your mouth with a smooth SPF 30 sunscreen. (SPF or “Sun Protection Factor” 30 means that just 1/30th of the burning radiation of the sun will reach your skin, when properly applied.)

The Balm’s bright blue twist-applicator centers this sunscreen right on your smackers and also delivers moisture-locking ingredients—including beeswax, raspberry seed oil, and vitamin E—for lips that are both protected and hydrated. And its pleasant, ever-so-slight scent of citrus will make you want to use Trader Joe’s Lip Balm liberally and often, as you should!

When you do apply this Balm 15 minutes before sun exposure, it will ensure that your lips are sealed. Then wherever you go—go there with confidence, knowing you’ve done your part to protect your lips from sunburn and the other harmful effects that can come along with sun exposure... lip, lip, hooray!!!

Active Ingredients: Avobenzone 3% - Sunscreen, Homosalate 7% - Sunscreen, Octisalate 4.5% - Sunscreen, Octocrylene 9% - Sunscreen.

Inactive Ingredients: Beeswax, Octyldodecanol, Butyloctyl Salicylate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Octyldodecyl Neopentanoate, Punica Granatum Sterols, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Flavor (Aroma), Sodium Hyaluronate, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Limonene, Tocopheryl Acetate, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil.

Overall Assessment: This is an effective lip balm that hydrates even the most chapped lips and it has an SPF 30 for sun protection. This was an excellent purchase, and I will definitely repurchase it!
