July Empties 2024 for the Face, Body & Hair

I only managed to finish up 6 products in the month of July, and 5 were full-size and one was a travel size. I somehow thought that I was going to finish more skincare products, but it is now clear that won't be until the end of August. I thoroughly enjoyed using the products that I did manage to finish this month, and wanted to share my thoughts about each of them.

Spongellé Apple Blossom Body Wash Infused Body Buffer ($18.00 from Spongellé): These buffers with built-in body wash are infused with extracts of yuzu, edelweiss and vetiver root to cleanse, exfoliate, massage, and hydrate the skin. The refreshing fragrance features top notes of citrus tonic, watery pear, red apple. While the middle noted are a lovely floral medley composed of freesia, muguet and peony petals. The base notes may seem intense, but the musk, amber crystal and soft patchouli become warm and creamy when offset by the fruit and florals from the top and middle notes. Purchase Again? This one is a must-have for me!

Spongellé For the Two of Us | Sugar Dahlia Heart Buffer ($14.00. Currently on sale for $10.00 from Spongellé): "Send a love letter with Spongelle’s For The Two Of Us Heart Buffer in Sugar Dahlia. Perfect for travel, these heart-shaped body wash infused buffers will cleanse, exfoliate, massage and love your skin." The smell of this buffer is delectable, the top notes are composed of Citrus Nuances, Solar Accord, the middle notes are a delightful amalgam of Midnight Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, Freesia, Muguet, Neroli, and the base notes are a lovely musk. Purchase Again? I have another one that I will open before too long! 

Spongellé Mini Buffer Bits in Chiffon Rose ($10.00 from Spongellé): These darling buffers are inspired by tiny donut holes, these Body Wash Infused Buffer  Bits are available in four delectable scents (Jasmine Brûlée, Burnt Sugar, Cocoa Bon and Chiffon Rose). The dual-sided mini buffers are the perfect size for precise deep-cleansing, softening cuticles, nails, heels or any other areas of the body with small dry patches. They feature a special soft cleansing surface on one side and a gentle textured exfoliation on the other. Each Buffer Bit is infused with skin-softening triple butter and exfoliating sugarcane extract. Spongellé always makes impressive, covet-worthy products, and these are really fantastic, and I love to use them after gardening! Purchase Again? Yes!

shu uemura art of hair muroto volume lightweight hair mask ($73.00 for 6 oz. from shu uemura art of hair and Sephora): This is a truly luscious luxe hair mask that is very nourishing and hydrating, and it fights frizz, enhances shine and leaves hair very manageable. It has a light and clean aroma that is quite pleasant, but it isn't long-lasting. This was a pure joy to use, which tends to be my experience whenever I use their haircare products. Purchase Again? I am using up more of their conditioners from other collections before I purchase this again, but I would happily use it again in the future!

Erno Laszlo Phelityl Pre-Cleansing Oil ($67.00 for 6.4 oz. from Erno Laszlo and Nordstrom): This is a nourishing cleansing oil, with a comforting light and warm aroma, that is supposed to be massaged into dry skin. It removes makeup and dirt and helps to dislodge debris from clogged pores. After a few minutes of massaging the oil into the skin you dip your chosen Erno Laszlo cleansing bar (my choice is their Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar reviewed HERE) into a basin of warm water, then rub the bar on your oily face. Water activates the creamy lather and it deeply cleans the skin without any stripping (the oil acts as a buffer). Laszlo purists, like me, use the old splashing method which involves 20 splashes in the filled basin and then 10 splashes with fresh running water (the water should not be too hot). The end result is extraordinarily clean, soft skin that isn't in the least bit stripped. This is an amazing cleansing oil, and I had forgotten how much I had loved it, and the extent to which it is extraordinarily effective. Purchase Again? Probably not because I have far too many cleansing oils.

LAVANILA The Healthy Deodorant in Pure Vanilla ($12.00 for 2 oz. and $8.00 for the travel size from LAVANILA, Amazon and Target): is a wonderful healthy deodorant formula that is effective, smells delicious and offers long-lasting protection. Available in a nice range of scents, their scrumptious smelling Healthy Deodorants offer odor protection all day long, and the healthy ingredients condition the skin. 

If you are seeking an antiperspirant, then be advised that this does not prevent sweating. This has been my favorite healthy deodorant for many years now, and I will use it as long as LAVANILA makes it. It applies to the skin effortlessly, without tugging, and it never leaves a residue or stain on the clothes. This is a cruelty-free brand and their deodorants are free of aluminum and parabens.

The Pure Vanilla scent is warm and creamy perfection, and wearing the deodorant and fragrance together is delectable! Purchase Again? I already opened another full size one of these gems!

Overall Assessment: While I didn't finish up as many products as I had hoped, I am happy that I was able to recycle a few more containers this month, and finish open products before they went bad. John Frieda Frizz Ease Daily Nourishment Leave-In Conditioner is formulated to detangle, hydrate, protect, and leave hair frizz-free. If you tend to like to use a leave-in conditioner before combing or brushing out your hair, as I do, then this moisturizing spray is a great choice. It is neither too thick, nor does it leave a greasy film. Hair is left touchable soft and manageable, and it is safe for color treated hair. My naturally curly is prone to frizzing– especially when there is the slightest bit of humidity in the air– and this affordable drugstore find really does the trick. It is effective, easy to use, and the light fragrance is pleasant, but not long-lasting.

Overall Assessment: If you have frizz-prone hair, then this leave-in conditioner is definitely worthy of your consideration. I always use a leave-in conditioning spray to make my hair more manageable, and to tame frizz and fly-aways, and this one does the trick.

Mrs. Meyer's Compassion Flower Hand Soap is not your typical floral scented hand soap, but instead the aroma is neither too sweet, nor too fragrant. It has a light and delicate floral aroma that is uplifting and understated. This is a very moisturizing hand soap that neither strips the skin, nor leaves behind an oily residue. Instead, it is utter hand soap perfection.

Mrs. Meyer's Lemon Verbena Hand Soap is a glorious lemon verbena scented hand soap that is cruelty-free and Leaping Bunny Certified. It moisturizes the skin, and leaves the hands very soft and clean without any sort of residue. It has a satisfying lather, a delectable fresh citrus aroma, and it makes washing hands a joy rather than a drab experience.

That I am enchanted by all things Westman Atelier is no secret, and as noted in my review of the Westman Atelier Skultuna Guld Kuppen Makeup Brush Cup (reviewed HERE), I am incredibly impressed by the quality of the collaboration between Westman Atelier and Skultuna. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that the Westman Atelier Skultuna Guld Plattan Vanity Tray is a coveted purchase that I am delighted to have made.

About Skultana,

Skultuna was founded by King Karl IX in the year 1607 and then as well as now, timeless design of the highest quality is the essence of the company. All Skultuna items are made for the ages, with the quality to be more beautiful for every day and generation that uses, wears and loves them.

The year was 1607, and King Karl IX could at last implement his long held plans for a Swedish brass industry. Refining copper into brass would reduce imports of brass and increase income from exports. The King had a man sent off on the Crown's business to find a suitable location for a brass foundry, the choice fell on Skultuna, where the Svartån brook provided sufficient water power. Today, over four centuries later, the company still resides in the very same place in Skultuna. The first master braziers were called here from the brass foundries in Germany and the Netherlands, they also brought the technique on how to make large brass objects like chandeliers. The oldest known chandelier is in the Church of Our Lady in Enköping and is dated 1619. The journey throughout history has been rough at times, once the whole factory floated away with the spring flood and it has burnt down completely on at least three occasions.

In the 15th and 16th century, the design work was part of the craftsmanship. At the end of 17th century, processes and work methods were standardized. This was the foundation of what we today call industrial design. Carl Hjalmar Norrström was a designer at the Skultuna Brass Foundry between the years 1895-1912. Norrström belonged to the most recognized designers at that time and was granted many awards for his creations. Carl Hjalmar won the Gold medal at the World Expo in Paris during the year 1900 for his magnificent baptizing font that can still be seen at the museum in Skultuna. Modernism came to Skultuna in the 1950s in the shape of the silversmith Pierre Forssell. He contributed with some fabulous products during the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. His designs are very much characterized as Scandinavian: strict and contemporary in style. Another famous designer that designed products for Skultuna in the 1980s is Sigvard Bernadotte. He designed a series of products for the dining table.

Today, Skultuna collaborates with leading international designers and Skultuna products can be found in leading department stores all around the world and the company has won a number of international design awards. Skultuna today has five brand stores in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Gothenburg and Skultuna. At the same time, production in the factory at the factory continues in an unbroken tradition, today mainly in the form of final processing such as polishing, grinding, assembly, engraving and packaging. Today, the factory is also one of the most popular tourist destinations in Sweden where you can visit the Skultuna Flagship store, Service Desk, Museum, Outlet store and the Bistro. 

The Westman Atelier Skultuna Guld Plattan Vanity Tray, which measures approximately 1.6" x 9.8" x 9.8", is a study in modern classic luxury. Its clean minimalist design coupled with its extraordinary craftsmanship and materials makes this a masterpiece in design. Not only does this fetching tray elevate the vanity, but it elicits great joy and admiration each time I see it! I am currently using it to store my most-used makeup brushes in my coveted Westman Atelier Skultuna Guld Kuppen Makeup Brush Cups, but I may make modifications and add some of my most reached for makeup items to the tray.
