The pandemic has forced so many of us to essentially live and work through our devices. And I, myself, spend so much time on Zoom that staring at electronic screens has created an inordinate amount of tech fatigue. Therefore, if you are seeking a creative analog alternative, I have something to share with you.

Buddha Board, which  is based in Vancouver, BC Canada (founded in 2000), is a wonderful no-tech way to paint simply using the board, a brush and water. It is a very peaceful, calming and gratifying creative outlet, and it shuts out the noise from all of our tech devices. They are available is three sizes, and can be purchased from Buddha Board or their Amazon Store. Additionally, they are quite affordable, and they make wonderful gifts (for Valentine's Day, too!).
According to the company,

Buddha Board is inspired by the Zen idea of living in the moment. Simply ‘paint’ on the surface with water and your creation will come to life in bold design. Then, as the water slowly evaporates, your art will magically disappear leaving you with a clean slate
and a clear mind, ready to create a whole new masterpiece. Buddha Board is environmentally friendly as it only uses water - no ink, no paint, no chemicals - and it will last for years with proper care.

  1. Fascinating device! Two questions, is it black & white only? Is there a way to attach to a printer to print out the painting? I would love to get something like this for Jeff, but he's all about color

    1. These Buddha Boards only have white backgrounds and the water painting marks are only in black. Therefore, there is no color available, and there is no port to connect it to a printer. This is 100% in the moment creative output that is ephemeral!
