Empties Post July 2019

Purchased and Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

It has been such a long, long time since I have done an Empties post, and therefore I decided to take a close look what I finished up in the month of July.

Skincare:

NuRevealSkincare Bright Star Scrub Resurfacing Face & Lip Scrub ($34.00 for 4 oz. from NuRevealSkincare and from their Official Amazon Store): This is a delectable exfoliant that forms a light lather that is punctuated by lots of tiny walnut shell powder exfoliating particles in conjunction with Alpha Hydroxy Acids to gently exfoliate dead skin cells. It has an uplifting light peppermint aroma that is neither overpowering, nor cloying– instead it is invigorating and thoroughly uplifting. It leaves skin soft, smooth and supple, and it isn't stripping, drying or irritating even for sensitive skin– like mine can be at times. Repurchase? Definitely!

Verso Super Facial Serum ($130.00 for 1.01 oz. from Net-A-Porter and Cult Beauty): This retinol serum is lightweight, fast absorbing and gentle enough that I didn't experience any redness, peeling, drying or irritation with my sometimes finicky skin. I cannot speak to Verso's claims that it is "eight times more effective than the standard retinol in the same dosage," but I can say that it effectively speeds up skin cell turnover, softens the appearance of fine lines, evens skin tone, and fades hyperpigmentation. My skin is left very soft, smooth and radiant. I should note that I have tried a wide variety of retinols– including those that require a prescription– and this was among the most gentle on my skin. I tend to use this serum at night rather than day and/or night because while one sleeps skin renewal is the most pronounced, and I tend to prefer to use products that accelerate skin cell turnover during this time of the day. Repurchase? Not at the moment because I am swimming in retinol-based products, but I will repurchase it at some point.

Verso Super Eye Serum ($80.00 for 1.01 oz. from Net-A-Porter and Cult Beauty): There are not very many retinol-based eye creams or serums on the market, and this is definitely an effective one. I have sensitive eyes, and am therefore very careful to avoid getting it in my eyes because I have found that it stings if I do. That said, this has only happened a couple of times when I was careless. When I initially began using this serum, I noted that it tingled the skin under my eyes, but once my skin acclimated to it, that subsided. It effectively increases skin cell turnover without peeling or irritating the skin, but the big surprise was the fact that it diminished the appearance of my dark circles, and it reduced the appearance of puffiness on the days that I don't get enough sleep. Furthermore, it leaves skin soft, smooth, supple and firm. I only tend to use it at night, and I have used it alone, and under an eye cream when added moisture is needed. Repurchase? Absolutely, this stuff is amazing and I don't have anything else like it.

African Botanics Marula Intense Skin Repair Balm: This wonderful Skin Repair Balm has long ago been discontinued and replaced by an even better balm, but I loved using every last bit!

Colbert MD Soothe Night ($175.00 for 1.02 oz. from Amazon (from Colbert MD)Space NKNet-A-PorterBloomingdale'sBarneys New York and Dermstore): If you are seeking an ultra soothing and comforting face cream that is capable of working wonders on very irritated skin, then this is definitely worthy of your consideration. It addresses a variety of concerns ranging from dry and irritated skin to particularly inflamed and reactive skin (post peel or post microdermabrasion), to Rosacea flareups.

When I want extra moisture, and a potent anti-aging night cream that works wonders on inflamed and irritated skin, Colbert MD Soothe Night Cream is one of my favorite moisturizers of choice. It is ultra-soothing, luxuriously rich in moisture, and exceedingly lightweight. It sinks into skin quickly and leaves skin luminous and deeply moisturized. Furthermore, fine lines are plumped and skin is left soft, smooth and supple.

Each time that I have a peel or microdermabrasion, my finicky skin can become reactive and red, and Soothe Night Cream eradicates the irritation and redness almost immediately. Additionally, it leaves skin feeling soothed and comforted. While the results are nearly immediate, one really sees a noticeable difference the following morning. Repurchase? I already opened a fresh jar! I absolutely LOVE this night cream!

Biodara Creme de Clay Purifying Mask (This was in my Boxwalla August 2016 Beauty Box): This is a deep pore cleansing clay mask that contains, "therapeutic bentonite clay and roasted bamboo salts that extract impurities and detoxify the skin while organic sea kelp and ionic trace minerals help soothe and moisturize your face." The organic  bioactive oils, coupled with highly effective plant extracts, were chose for their ability to exfoliate dead skin cells, clean out clogged pores, and revitalizing the skin. I immediately noted that my skin was left refreshed, luminous and clean without being stripped.  Repurchase? I have a few clay masks to use up first, but I will definitely purchase a full-size jar of this once I do.
Face Oils:

REN Rose 012 Moisture Defence Oil ($80.00 for 1.02 oz. from RENNordstromBloomingdale'sSpace NKSephora and John Lewis £42.00): This is such a glorious, rich beauty oil that this is actually the second bottle that I have purchased. It is a very luxurious and deeply moisturizing beauty oil that is comprised of 12 oils that were carefully selected to protect, hydrate and condition dry and dehydrated skin. It leaves skin utterly soft, silky smooth, luminous and it softens the appearance of fine lines. Furthermore, it calms and soothes irritated and inflamed skin, and therefore is a good oil choice after peels and exfoliation.

While I have decidedly normal to combination skin, I find that this beauty oil is perfect for my face during the colder months of the year, and it is perfect for my neck and décolleté all year long. It has an irresistibly beautiful rose aroma that is both elegant and intoxicatingly addictive and calming, but its fragrant bouquet fades soon after it sinks in. While it is a rich oil, it absorbs into the skin quickly and doesn't leave behind a greasy residue– unless, of course, you use too much. It is quite concentrated, and therefore a little goes quite a long way. If you apply it to warm, slightly damp freshly washed skin, then a few  drops is all that you need for your face, neck and décolleté. Repurchase? I would repurchase it, but not until I finish up a few of my other face oils.

African Botanics Fluers d'Afrique Intense Recovery Oil ($250.00 for 1 oz. from African BotanicsCult BeautyCredo Beauty, Violet Grey and Net-A-Porter): is a highly concentrated luxury oil that is lightweight in texture and fast absorbing. The texture, is itself, ultra-silky and it leaves skin feeling like the softest cashmere conceived. It has an utterly intoxicating aroma that is a delectable fusion of the Jasmine Grandiflorum, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil, Kalahari Melon Seed Oil and Marula Seed Oil. It is a warm and earthy floral that delights the senses, calms the mind and nourishes the skin. This is an oil to be savored, and the tactile and sensory experience is so exquisite that one immediately slows down to really relish the experiential component of this highly effective ultra-luxe beauty oil.

From its very inception, African Botanics Fleurs d’Afrique Intensive Recovery Oil was envisioned  and conceived as a new type of antioxidant-rich, anti-inflammatory anti-aging oil– the likes of which did not yet exist. Unlike many luxury oils that add water to break down water-soluble actives, African Botanics opted not to dilute the oils, but instead utilized highly potent oil soluble actives. Furthermore, they source rare ingredients of the highest quality from remote locations, and the end result is a staggeringly unique beauty oil that easily rivals the most potent and effective anti-aging serums in the marketplace today.

African Botanics Fleurs d’Afrique Intensive Recovery Oil utilizes a visionary delivery system that allows the ingredients to penetrate the skin deeply in order to effectively nourish the skin, to stimulate skin cell renewal, to restore and regenerate skin and to protect and heal. Furthermore, this unique formula softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while fading hyperpigmentation, and it reduces inflammation and redness.

My skin is notably different in that the overall texture is more even in tone and the small areas of light hyperpigmentation have noticeably faded. My fine lines are softened and my skin appears more taut and lifted. Furthermore, it effectively encourages skin cell-turnover to eliminate dull and dry dead skin cells in order to reveal luminous fresh skin. Repurchase? I already opened another bottle!

själ Saphir Concentrate Anti-Aging Face Oil ($175.00 for 1 oz. Available from Space NK & Bloomingdale's): This utterly lavish jewel soaked beauty elixir has a feather-light consistency that soaks into the skin quickly, and it immediately imparts a luscious and luminous glow. The scent itself defies easy categorization, though one does detect the delightful citrus notes. I would say that the evocative scent is simultaneously calming and intoxicating, and once I begin using it with regularity the scent began to beckon me. I realize that this sounds a bit crazy, but once this luxury oil gets under your skin it quickly becomes a highly craved part of one's beauty routine. There is something irresistible about the sensory experience that is only matched by the astounding results of this anti-aging masterpiece.

Skin is immediately brightened and luminous with a pronounced clarity. My skin routinely feels energized upon application, and there is an unmistakable flushing of the skin as this magical oil seems to stimulate increased circulation. My skin is immediately calmed, and my skin-tone immediately appears more even and healthy. Repeated use results in a diminution of fine lines as skin is plumped and elasticity is improved. Skin is left deeply nourished, hydrated and balanced while the aromatherapeutic effects soothe the spirit and quiet the mind. Skin is revitalized while this potent anti-aging luxury oil performs miracles on the skin. Repurchase? Unquestionably!

Aftelier Perfumes Organic Jasmine Face Elixir ($70.00 for 20ml from Aftelier Perfumes): This ultra-luxe face oil features jasmine sambac, a very high quality essence, that Mandy sources directly from a grower in India whose small batches are only available for sale once a year.

Mandy describes this intoxicating permutation of jasmine sambac as one that is "naturally fresh and spicy," and stated that its aroma is "uplifting and relaxing." This is an understatement of the highest order. There is no luxury face oil that feels or smells anything like this anywhere. The raw resources that she painstakingly selected for this luxury face oil represent the best ingredients available. However, it is undoubtedly Mandy's visionary juxtapositions, of the select ingredients, that account for its exceptional quality, otherworldly aroma, and its unparalleled sensory experience.

Each of the ingredients yield to Mandy's vision and artistry, and allow her to create something far greater than the sum of its parts. In the same way that Renaissance artists perfected nature by creating idealized portraits, so too, does Mandy take her creations to a level unseen in nature. The spicy jasmine sambac is, indeed, an intoxicating jewel, and it naturally invites repeated deep inhalation, but it is what Mandy creates with it that is so astoundingly brilliant. When combined with the other ingredients, Mandy is able to coax the greatest realized potential from each of them, and this symphony of raw materials, at her hands, play a supportive role that facilitates the prima ballerina, that is this sensual jasmine sambac, to shine with extraordinary grandeur.

The scent alone is both mood elevating and relaxing, and it soothes the spirit and quiets the mind unlike anything else that I have experienced before. When applied at night, Aftelier Perfumes Organic Jasmine Face Elixir simultaneously envelops, captivates, delights and relaxes the senses– paving the way for the most relaxing slumber and the sweetest dreams. This alone would be enough to fall madly in love with this intoxicating elixir, but what it does for the skin is equally astounding. Repurchase? This is one of the most glorious products ever to have graced my skin, and I can't live without it! Is that enough of a yes?!
Body & Hair:

LAVANILA The Healthy Fragrance in Pure Vanilla ($48.00 for 1.7 oz. from Ulta): If you are among the many people who loves vanilla-based perfumes, but who is seeking a more natural fragrance– then LAVANILA The Healthy Fragrance Pure Vanilla is a treat to the senses. Where traditional commercial fragrances are loaded with phthalates and harsher chemicals, LAVANILA makes theirs with all-natural and organic ingredients that are completely free of all harsh chemicals. Instead, they infuse organic sugar cane alcohol with a whole host of essential oils and botanicals, and the end result is delectably scented fragrances that are healthy and safe.

Pure Vanilla. which is described as a blend of pure Madagascar Vanilla, sheer Freesia and creamy Tonka Bean, is a warm and sheer floral and vanilla fusion that sits close to the skin without being in the least bit overpowering. It is neither too sweet, nor is it too floral, but instead it has all of the richness of vanilla without smelling like dessert. Repurchase? Definitely! This is not my first bottle and it certainly isn't the last.

Ouidad Mongongo Oil Multi-Use Curl Treatment ($38.00 for 1.7 oz. from Ouidad); If you have wavy, curly or kinky hair, or any variation in-between, then you have probably sought refuge in a high quality hair oil to tame and nourish those unruly tresses. Thankfully, Ouidad has devoted itself to caring for curly hair, and this is a tremendously effective multipurpose treatment oil that can be used as a rinse out conditioner or as a  leave-in.

Given that I have long, naturally curly hair, I know a thing about trying to tame frizz, moisturize my hair and scalp, and trying to find products that make my hair soft and manageable. This may seem like an easy task, but curly hair tends to be dry and more tricky to care for.

My preferred method of use is to use this as a leave-in on damp or dry hair. I simply warm a couple of drop between my palms and work it through my hair. It leaves my hair soft, manageable, separates and defines my curls into pretty ringlets, it fights frizz and leaves my hair with a lovely shine. It has a creamy, warm slightly sweet aroma that is very pleasant, but it does fade away soon upon application, and therefore will not interfere with any fragrances that you may wear. Repurchase? Definitely!

LAVANILA The Healthy Deodorant in Fragrance-Free and in Pure Vanilla ($14.00 for the 2 oz. full size and $8.00 for the 0.9 oz. travel size from Ulta): I am a longstanding proponent of healthier deodorants, and have been using them since I was a teenager. Though I have occasionally used mainstream deodorants, I do prefer to avoid the chemicals. LAVANILA makes wonderful healthy deodorants that are effective and smell wonderful. Repurchase? Yes, again and again and again!

Farmhouse Fresh Citrus Cilantro Body Oil ($23.00 for 4 oz. from Farmhouse Fresh and Fresh Fragrances): The refreshing aroma, which is aptly described as a "light cut-grass scent," is an absolute treat to the senses. The antioxidant-rich oil is lightweight, fast absorbing and deeply moisturizing. Skin is left utterly soft, supple, silky smooth hydrated and unmistakably luminous. I love to apply it to my skin immediately following a shower when my skin is still warm and slightly damp– which not only makes it sink into the skin more efficiently, but it also allows you to use less oil. Repurchase? I will definitely consider it once I use up a few of my current body oils (of which there are a few other fragrances from Farmhouse Fresh).

Overall Assessment: There isn't a single thing here that I wouldn't use again. While I may wait a while to repurchase– so that I can use up a few products– I definitely think that all of these products are really fantastic.

Steeped Coffee Review

Press Sample (Unaffiliated Links)

If you are a coffee drinker, like me, then I have a very interesting coffee brand to share with you. Steeped Coffee, from Santa Cruz, California, is an innovative brand that makes coffee in single serve bags that you brew the same way as tea. They ethically source their coffee beans, and their practices exceed the Fair Trade minimums.

At home I use a French Press, but at work I do not. For a while I have been contemplating putting a coffee pot in my office, but I would still have to walk over to the department office for water and to dispose of the coffee grounds there as well. My other option is to use our main office coffeemaker, but it's inefficient for just one person to use. Therefore, when Steeped Coffee sent me this package I knew that it would be perfect to take to work. I can store the coffee in my desk and simply get hot water from the main office whenever the spirit moves me.

Features:
- 100% Specialty Coffee: No solubles, crystals, or freeze-drying needed
- No Machine: single serve convenience
- Ultrasonically Sealed: no glue or staples
- Precision Ground Coffee: consistent water-cooled grinding to the micron
- Full Immersion Filter
- Nitro Sealed for Freshness
- Just Add Water
They have five coffees from which to choose, and they are roasted in small batches. Perhaps the most important questions is whether or not their coffees taste good, and I definitely think that they do.

According to Steeped Coffee,

Steeped Coffee bags are filled with fresh, direct trade coffee that's roasted locally in small batches and precision ground to the micron. From Decaf to French roast, we have a blend for you.

We believe that coffee is an experience that starts long before it is steeped in your cup. A quality cup of coffee is not just enjoyable to our taste buds, but is also dependent on the attention to detail from each farmer, the direct trade relationships built to support the communities at origin, and craftsmanship carried through our roasting. Every detail matters and our direct trade coffee allows us to ethically source each bean through growing relationships and buying practices that far exceed Fair Trade minimums. Steeped Coffee invites you to become part of a community that you can be proud of—a movement that cares for each page throughout its story.

We all have a role to play when it comes to the world we live in. At Steeped Coffee we hold these responsibilities with the utmost care, so you don't have to. Our Guilt Free Packaging takes every possible step to ensure that your sacred coffee rituals go unnoticed by the next generation. Each coffee bag is made of a non-GMO food grade biodegradable material that you can drop in your garden or toss in your green bin. Steeped Coffee boxes are made of recycled material that is fully recyclable. And each element of our packaging is utilizing every know innovation that we know about, while also preserving our coffee's quality and freshness. We'll keep doing our best, so by all means leave just your actual footprints wherever your journey takes you.

Trader Joe's Honey Mango Moisturizing Cream Shave

Purchased Over and Over and Over Again

Trader Joe's Honey Mango Moisturizing Cream Shave is an emollient, moisturizing and delectably aromatic shaving cream that is very effective and such a pleasure to use. It should be noted that while it is a non-foaming shave cream that it neither clogs the razor, nor does it leave behind a greasy film, and it is very well suited for sensitive skin. It gives a very clean and close shave and leaves skin silky smooth and soft. It has a wonderful honey mango scent, but it does not linger. My husband and I both use and love this, and therefore we tend to buy 4-5 tubes at a time so that we don't run out. This shaving cream is so popular, that my Trader Joe's sometimes even runs out, and you have to wait for them to restock! It is our absolute favorite shave cream, with an incredibly affordable price tag ($3.99 for an 8 oz. tube), and it has pride of place among a very short list of toiletries that I repurchase over and over again.

According to Trader Joe's,

If it’s a clean, close shave you desire, and you’d prefer your skin be left silky-not-stubbly, Trader Joe’s Honey Mango Moisturizing Cream Shave will fill your wishes without emptying your wallet. This Cream was specifically formulated for us without the use of harsh ingredients and is tested for gentleness. In fact, we designed it for sensitive skin—it’s cream based, non-foaming, free of parabens, and enriched with aloe vera & vitamin E.

Many high-end brands advertise their moisturizing shave creams as being gentle and non-irritating. And then they charge you handsomely for the favor. That’s not very gentle. We’ll happily provide the gentle, non-irritating shave cream, along with a gentle price. Trader Joe’s Honey Mango Moisturizing Cream Shave is an excellent everyday skincare product for both men and women, with a refreshing honey mango scent.

In specialty skin care boutiques and department stores, you’d pay considerably more for a cream of this quality— and you’d have to make another stop. At Trader Joe’s we deliver not only great values, but shopping convenience as well. Oh, and a clean, close shave.

Ingredients: Organic Herbal Infusion Of Chamomile (Chamomilla Recutita), Echinacea (Echinacea Purpurea), Green Tea (Camellia Sinensis) And Lavender (Lavendula Officinalis), Organic Aloe Barbadensis, Olefin Sulfonate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Vegetable Glycerin, Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Allantoin, Xantham Gum Methyl/Propylparaben, Sodium Hydroxide, Botanical Fragrance.

NO ANIMAL INGREDIENTS OR TESTING

Directions: For unequaled shaving ease, rinse skin thoroughly with warm water, leaving wet for a few minutes. Using a small amount of Cream Shave, apply a thin, transparent layer over damp skin. Shave normally, rinsing razor frequently.

Overall Assessment: I just can't recommend this shave cream highly enough. If you are interested in trying a new shave cream that is amazing, that happens to be cruelty-free, then you just can't go wrong with Trader Joe's Honey Mango Moisturizing Cream Shave,

MAKE UP FOR EVER 250 Extra Fine Eyeliner Brush | Review and Pictures

Purchased (Affiliate Links)

If you are seeking a cream and gel eyeliner brush that is both firm and extra fine, then I recently purchased one with which I am most pleased. MAKE UP FOR EVER 250 Extra Fine Eyeliner Brush is a fantastic $18.00 purchase, and it is the perfect accompaniment to my gel eyeliners.

The firm brush, which is firm enough to draw a very precise line, but not so firm as to be uncomfortable on the delicate eye area, is able to pick up the perfect amount of eyeliner, and deposit it in even the tightest of spaces without any issues. It facilitates precise control whether you are tight-lining, or seeking the perfect cat eye. The wooden handle and metal ferrule are nicely balanced, and while it is a small brush overall, it is very comfortable to hold and handle. The synthetic fibers do not absorb the eyeliner, and therefore do not become overloaded and inefficient.
According to Sephora,

An extra fine, straight brush for extremely precise eyeliner application. This short, firm brush allows for controlled and dense application along the lashline. It can be used with cream or liquid formulas to create a classic eyeliner look.

After five years in development with makeup artists and fiber experts, MAKE UP FOR EVER Artisan Brushes are a revolution in brush craftsmanship. The 100-percent fiber brushes are available in a range of 76 handcrafted styles, each with the perfect balance of straight and wavy fibers that replicate natural hairs. Beveled tips create a two-in-one makeup brush and tool, while innovative hair density and brush head shapes optimize every stroke for ideal makeup application. To achieve the ultimate collection, every brush has gone through 25 production stages by 30 craftsmen and has been checked for quality 50 times.
From brush tip to end it measures 6 1/2"– therefore it is compact enough to pop in your makeup or travel bag.

Directions: Use the flat side of the brush to apply liner along lash-line. Use pointed end to detail the inner and outer corners of the eye.
Overall Assessment: This was a really great purchase, and this is one brush that is getting a lot of use– rather than collecting dust!

Sephora Collection PRO Contour Highlight Brush #80

Purchased (Affiliate Links)

I recently picked up the Sephora Collection PRO Contour Highlight Brush #80 on sale for a mere $15.00 (Regularly $34.00), and while it is primarily intended for use as a small highlighter and contour brush, I also find that it works exceptionally well in its ability to blend concealer under the eyes and anywhere else on the face. I have definitely used it to apply highlighter to the high points on my face, but additionally have found that it does an enviable job blending eye shadow.
It has a cruelty-free synthetic fiber head, and it is soft and fluffy– while being dense and firm enough to do its job quite well. It has a thick and sturdy handle and ferrule, it is nicely balanced and it is comfortable in the hand and easy to wield about. It also comes with a very convenient plastic case that covers the head and ferrule– making it very convenient to pack.
 According to Sephora,

An exclusive, layered bristle brush that lightly deposits pigment while offering control and precision when applying product. This brush is ideally used to build coverage under the eye, as well as add highlight in specific areas. It is precise enough to work in almost any smaller area of the face and can be used to contour areas such as around the eyes and nose. It doubles as a blending brush to blend out any excess product.
This brush is made with natural fibers at the base to add strength and synthetic fibers to add bend. From tip to end it measures just about 7 1/2"
Directions: Apply product to the tip of the brush, and sweep lightly in one direction.
Overall Assessment: I would have likely overlooked this brush altogether if it hadn't been more than 50% Off, but I am so glad that I discovered it. At this price it was a purchase for which I did not hesitate, and one that I do not regret. If you are looking for a good multi-tasking cruelty-free brush that is more than 50% Off, then this one is worth trying.

Regularly $34.00. ON SALE for $15.00 from Sephora (Affiliate Links).

Soleil Toujours Sunscreens to Covet

I recently discovered a luxury sunscreen brand that I am thoroughly impressed by, and thought that it was worth extolling its virtues.
Soleil Toujours Sunscreen Mist SPF 50 ($34.00 for 6 oz. from Soleil Toujours, Dermstore, Bluemercury, Cult Beauty, Space NK, Revolve, Barneys New York and Net-A-Porter): This SPF 50 sprays on completely clear, it features broad spectrum protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays, and it contains a selection of organic ingredients that nourish the skin. Ingredients such as Green Tea Leaf, Vitamin E, Red Algae, Cucumber Extract and Hyaluronic Acid, to name a few, nurture, hydrate and protect the skin, and the formula is weightless and non-sticky.

According to Soleil Toujours,

This clear broad spectrum formula is the only 70%+ organic sunscreen mist formulated without oxybenzone or octinoxate. These two chemicals are the most common sunscreen actives found in the marketplace and are known endocrine disruptors and highly allergenic. They have also been shown to cause coral bleaching, ultimately killing coral reefs.  Soleil Toujours brings you the best in class of clear sunscreen mists free of the common harmful chemicals that also enrich and nourish the skin with potent antioxidants.

While it is a chemical sunscreen it contains:
- NO Oxybenzone- shown to cause biochemical or cellular level changes & endocrine disruption. Named allergen of the year in 2014 and absorbs through the skin in significant amounts. It contaminates the bodies of 97% of Americans according to research by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- NO Octinoxate - shown to cause biochemical or cellular level changes & endocrine disruption. Enhanced skin absorption is shown to have hormone-mimicking effects on laboratory animals. This chemical is found in humans, including mothers' milk samples.

It does contain:
-EcoSunComplex, their proprietary power packed composition of Red Algae, Vitamin C Ester, Vitamin E and Bisabolol. Helps to: boost SPF, reduce UV-induced skin damage, prevent loss of firmness, and increase skin smoothness.

Summer Skincare Tips for a Safe & Healthy Season

Purchased & Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

This is undoubtedly the time of year when we tend to spend a great deal more time outside, and as a result we often inadvertently overwork and under-protect our bodies and skin. Here are a few things that I have been trying to do to take better care of my skin this time of year:

1) Avoid overexposure to the sun. A couple of years ago I was overexposed to the sun while out running errands on one of the hottest days of the year in Los Angeles, and the effects were frightening and potentially devastating. I was outside for long stretches of time (I was exposed to the baking sun and hot asphalt), and the weather was so extreme that I ended up with a case of serious dehydration– it was unlike anything that I had ever experienced, and thankfully I didn't end up with heat stroke. Be mindful of the heat and your exposure time, and the very young, the elderly, people with mitigating health issues and pets should also be carefully monitored since the effects of overexposure to the sun can be particularly devastating to them.

2) Drink plenty of water. I know that this is painfully obvious, but it is something that I often don't do nearly enough of– particularly when I am on the go during the warmer months. Carrying around a good quality water bottle definitely helps remind you to drink water, and for me I either carry my 25 oz. S'well Water Bottle (Reviewed HERE), Hydro Flask Vacuum Insulated Water Bottle (Reviewed HERE) or my 16 oz. bkr Water Bottle (Reviewed HERE).

3) Be diligent in your use of a high SPF sunscreen (at least an SPF 30- though I use between an SPF 30-SPF 50 most of the time). The key is to remember to reapply sunscreen frequently. I often find myself applying my sunscreen in the morning and then forgetting to do so again throughout the day. That first and only application offers us a false sense of sun protection, but it does not last from morning until night. I have forced myself to carry sunscreen with me to reapply it, but of course this means that I need to reapply some foundation, tinted moisturizer, blush, or whatever I am wearing on my face that day. While this isn't terribly convenient it is necessary, and definitely worth the trouble. It should be applied to all exposed areas, and remember that the harmful rays also penetrate your clothing. Vulnerable areas like the ears, back of the neck, the drivers side of your face and body, the back of the hands, and feet are most often neglected. My all-time favorite sunscreen for my face, neck and décolleté is: TATCHA SILKEN Pore Perfecting Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35 (Reviewed HERE).

4) Wear a wide brim hat. I try to do this when I am sitting outside reading, gardening, going for walks or hiking.

5) Exfoliate Skin once a week to remove dead skin and to ensure that your skincare is penetrating deeply enough. Of course this should be avoided if you have sunburned skin, but if your skin isn't traumatized by the elements and can handle a gentle exfoliation then this will go a long way to allowing your products to penetrate more deeply. If you see any suspicious looking moles that have been changing shape and size- then avoid this step and go to your doctor to have it looked at. I can't underscore the importance of this enough- it is very easy for them to identify precancerous and cancerous lesions that you want to deal with immediately. I have had numerous suspicious looking things removed that could eventually become skin cancer.

6) Consider adding in an anti-aging face serum to help fight free radicals. Even if you are young and aren't seeing fine lines pop up yet, the benefits of antioxidant-rich anti-aging serums do wonders for their ability to scavenge free radicals.

7) Add a nourishing face oil into your rotation. They penetrate the skin more deeply and moisturize the skin. They also give the skin a beautiful healthy glow. They can also be used in lieu of heavier skin creams when you want something lighter and faster absorbing. Fear not, they are made for all types of skin from oily to dry and everything in between.

8) Consider adding Hyaluronic-based lotions or gels into your product rotation because it helps to raise, and maintain, the moisture level of the skin.

9) If you have a beloved medium to full coverage foundation that is a perfect match for you, but is too heavy for the season, then blend a small amount with your favorite facial lotion or cream, and you will have the perfect tinted moisturizer. Add a touch of primer and sunscreen, and then you have a BB Cream. When I do this I use the back of my hand to mix it- it's a fast and convenient method. I would still highly recommend using a separate sunscreen to make sure that you have sufficient coverage. Again, you need to reapply sunscreen throughout the day (approximately every 60-80 minutes).

10) Use a good moisture mask at least once a week, or as needed.

11) Don't forget about your lips! Apply a moisturizing lip balm with an SPF underneath your lip gloss or lipstick to keep them protected. Reapplication throughout the day is the key to remaining protected.

12) Don't forget your hair! Not only can the sun wreak havoc on hair, but the scalp is also subject to sunburn as well. Use a deep conditioner on a weekly basis to keep your hair in good shape, and consider a good spray on SPF that is formulated for the hair.

13) A good pair of sunglasses won't just protect your eyes, but will also protect the vulnerable under eye area. Repeated sun exposure will cause sun damage to that vulnerable area and subject your skin to skin cancer and premature aging.

NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE PUBLIC ACCESS STARTS TODAY!

 (Affiliate Links)

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale begins today July 19! Early Access ended on July 18, and Public Access begins at 12:30pm ET/ 9:30am PST on July 19 and ends on August 4. Current Sales by Department: Beauty SalesWomen's SaleMen's SaleTrend SaleKid's Sale & Home Sale!

I have highlighted a few of the beauty deals that have caught my eye– featuring products that I either have and love– or that I think are a good value. Last year I purchased the Sisley All Eyes on Sisley Set, which I absolutely LOVE, and highly recommend. If you are seeking a wonderful device, then I highly recommend the NuFace Trinity Anniversary Facial Toning Kit, I have this device, have used it for years, and think that this is an excellent value. I am a huge fan of Kate Sommerville Exfolikate, which is normally quite expensive, but they have two value sizes from which to chose for this sale. If I didn't have a brand new HOURGLASS Caution Extreme Lash Mascara, that I just recently opened, then I would definitely purchase the HOURGLASS Eyes & Lips Duo because I really want to try their new lip gloss formula, but this is definitely a good deal.

So far I have only selected a few items of clothing and one or two pair of shoes, for work, but nothing from the beauty deals since I am swimming in so many products that I need to use before making any purchases. I am trying to be very mindful of my purchases these days, and am doing my very best to buy what I need, or really want, and that I will actually use.
