Charlotte Tilbury Eye Smudger Brush | Review

Purchased (Affiliate Links)

The Charlotte Tilbury Eye Smudger Brush, admittedly, was a bit of an impulse buy on my part. I had looked at it numerous times, and continually decided not to buy it since I already have so many brushes. However, there was something about this particular brush that kept beckoning me, and because of that indescribable pull I finally decided to purchase it (in part to satisfy my curiosity, and in part to silence that unrequited desire to possess this brush). Reflecting back, I realize that I continually stopped myself from buying this smudger brush because I felt as though its head was too large to effectively and efficiently smudge shadow into my upper and lower lashlines– since that was much intention for this brush, not using it in the socket. I prefer a simple look, I either use a liner alone, or a simple wash of color on my lid (usually a taupe shade) and a liner. Therefore, I thought that this brush was going to produce a line that was too thick. I always start with an eyeliner pencil and then I top it off with powder shadow to set it and to soften the hard line.

I had serious misgivings about the ability of this brush to deliver the perfect smudge in the lashline, but after watching Charlotte Tilbury use it in that capacity, I realized that my misgivings were unfounded. This brush is beautifully balanced and features a wooden handle, with slight faceting that makes it very comfortable to grip, a rose gold metal ferrule and cruelty-free synthetic bristles. The bristles are very soft, and quite gentle near sensitive eyes, and the brush picks up, deposits and blends shadows perfectly.

After washing this brush, I am thrilled to report that it did not shed a single hair, and it retained its shape without any coaxing on my part. This is now my all-time favorite go-to brush for smudging shadow into my lashline. It is also perfect for socket work and does an enviable job depositing highlighting shades in the area of the tear duct.
According to Charlotte Tilbury,

Eyeshadow & eyeliner brush with soft, synthetic bristles. My Eye Smudger Brush is great for applying colour to add definition in the eye socket area, or for a more smoky eye. It works well with the Enhance and Smoke shades of my Luxury Palette of Colour-Coded Eyeshadows, to add color to more targeted areas such as along the socket line or even along the lashline. I couldn’t live without this clever little brush!
About Charlotte Tilbury Makeup Brushes:

My range of artist-inspired makeup brushes have been expertly crafted by hand to be so easy to use they practically apply the make-up themselves. I wanted to create a functional but beautiful, luxurious range, in my signature rose gold and night crimson colours. The maximum hair-count brush heads are hand-pulled into the perfect shape by a master brush maker in Europe. The sustainable wood brush handles are ergonomically designed to be easy to use and faceted to not roll off your vanity table, a trick used by artists the world over.
Overall Assessment: I'm so glad that I finally bought this brush because I use it every single day. This was yet another fantastic Charlotte Tilbury purchase, and no doubt there will be many more to come.

    1. She actually makes really lovely high quality brushes! I have two of them and use them all of the time. My local Sephora doesn't stock her products, but my Nordstrom does. Have you checked your local Nordstrom, Allison?

  2. I am such a fanatic when it comes to brushes. Once I see one it usually sticks with me until I cave. I have her foundation brush which she uses with everything, practically my whole face was done with that brush. It's only amazing! Now I'll be fixated on this brush. Oh well, I need something to buy from Sephora to claim my birthday gift there.

    1. So far I just have two of her brushes, and I LOVE them both. It's definitely worth checking them out next time you are at a CT counter!

  4. Now my problem is that since the brush can do so much I'd want to have more than one! Seriously though, the next time I can splurge on brushes I'll be picking this one up!

    1. Yes, there is that temptation to have more than one of them for that reason, but the synthetic bristles also make it very easy to wipe it and move on to the next product without the worry of absorption. However, if you are moving from cream to powder or powder to cream products, it makes sense to have two of them.
