LIPSTICK QUEEN Let Them Eat Cake | Review and Swatches

Every once in a blue moon, I find a lipstick shade that evokes an unparalleled visceral reaction in me– one that might be characterized as a combination of glee and awe. I have always been enamored of pearly lilac pinks, and remember such a shade that was among my first lipstick loves as a teenager. I have perpetually sought out a replacement shade since that time, and LIPSTICK QUEEN Let Them Eat Cake is the very embodiment of this long-lost shade.

Described as a "delicate lilac shot through with sugary rose gold sparkles"– this twinkling beauty is perfection for those who seek an infinitely wearable lilac pink. While the base is a cool-toned lilac, the rose gold sparkles add enough warmth that tempers the cool tones. Therefore, it can be worn by people with warm or  cool  complexions.

The metallic finish is refined and elegant, rather than overdone, and can be worn from day to night while remaining office appropriate. It feels lightweight on the lips,  and I get two to three hours of wear-time before needing to reapply. Once the lipstick wears away, it does leave some shimmer on the lips, and if you over-apply you may experience some shimmer migration.

I have worn Let Them Eat Cake alone and accompanied by a lip gloss, but I love the finish and color so much that I prefer to wear it by itself.
According to LIPSTICK QUEEN,

The lavender trend gets a Lipstick Queen makeover with Let Them Eat Cake, a delicate lilac lipstick shot through with sugary rose gold sparkles that will light up your entire look. Paying homage to Marie Antoinette’s lavish taste and her total rejection of the ordinary, Poppy created this ground-breaking and truly extraordinary lipstick that captures that same spirit of rebellion and decadence. Pretty pastel is given a special metallic finish with a rock and roll edge that shimmers flirtatiously on the lips.

Can be worn alone or as a topcoat, it will transform your favourite Lipstick Queen shade with its unique metallic pearl effect. The icing on the cake, if you will!
Key Benefits:
• With anti-oxidant Vitamin E and nourishing Apricot Kernel Oil
• Suits all complexions
• The lilac trend made flattering
• Cool tones of lilac are cleverly countered with rose gold lustre pigments that catch the light and create voluptuous lips
"I've always been fascinated by the opulence of the court of Versailles and it was Marie Antoinette's infamous misquote that ran through my head when I created this lipstick." Poppy King, Lipstick Queen Founder

 About LIPSTICK QUEEN,

A cult Australian brand born out of one woman's quest to find the perfect lipstick. Twenty years on, the range now contains a plethora of unique and beautiful hues.

Not the way in which the light ignites the luminosity and modulates the hue.
Overall Assessment: This is precisely the shade that I have spent years trying to find, and I can't begin to express how happy this makes me! If you have a penchant for complex lilac pink lipsticks, then you really owe it to yourself to take a closer look at this gorgeous lipstick. While  historians have long contended that there is no evidence to suggest that Marie Antoinette, the wife of Louis XIV, ever actually uttered the words “Qu’ils mangent de la brioche"– I absolutely love the inspiration for this gorgeous, royal gem of a lipstick!

  3. This is the only Lipstick Queen I have and I really love it. Because of the sparkle I only wear it at night since it does leave it behind on my lips.

    1. It's definitely the one to have, of you select just one! I'm so glad the you have and love it. It definitely does leave sparkle behind on the lips, but that doesn't bother me since it's usually my cue to reapply it.

  5. Isn't it amazing how one product/shade can capture our heart like that? Mine is MAC Marquis d', it was LE with their wonder woman collection years ago. They have not re-released it, and I've spent years trying to find a proper dupe. I've found similar shades, but I still dream of Marquis d' - maybe one day they'll release it again. This shade is very pretty though, glad you found your replacement!

    1. It really is. What is so astounding to me, is the fact that I vividly remember finding that shade as a teenager! I remember standing at the counter, falling in love with it, and wearing it until I wore it down to a stub. I am so grateful to have found a replacement! I remember Marquis d'! That was one beautiful lipstick! With all of the repromoting that they do, I find it really odd that MAC hasn't brought it back yet! I really hope the you find your replacement!

  6. I can relate to you! I'm still on the hunt for the perfect brick brown shade I used to wear back in the day. It's from MAC, I can't even remember the name. So finding the exact shade you've been looking for is manna from heaven!
