TATCHA SILKEN Pore Perfecting Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35

In case you haven't yet heard the news, TATCHA has created an ultra luxurious new sunscreen that is already being touted as a game changer. TATCHA SILKEN Pore Perfecting Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35 boasts a lightweight and nourishing formula that doubles as a primer to extend the wear of your makeup while protecting your skin.
According to TATCHA,

Inspired by the geisha's iconic makeup, we created this invisible, lightweight sunscreen to perfect and protect skin, making it an elegant, everyday essential.

Provides broad spectrum protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays. Non-greasy formula tightens pores, perfect as a primer for makeup.
One seldom speaks in terms of elegance when discussing the anatomy of a sunscreen, but TATCHA has the innate ability to make exceedingly elegant products in even the most seemingly mundane categories such as sunscreens.
TATCHA SILKEN Pore Perfecting Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 35 is a thick cream housed in a beautiful blue squeeze tube. A light squeeze dispenses the perfect amount of sunscreen without any waste.
The sunscreen itself defies expectations in that its thick texture suggests that it might require a great deal of effort to work into the skin, and that there will invariably be a white residue that will prove to be incompatible with makeup. Yet, TATCHA was able to create the most luxurious silky-smooth sunscreen that melts into the skin as soon as it meets the warmth of the body, and it transforms from an opaque cream into one that is completely invisible. Additionally, there is no greasy residue left to contend with– that so often alters the consistency of your makeup. It neither feels, nor smells like a sunscreen, but instead behaves more like an ultra-luxe nourishing hydrating cream.
Furthermore, in addition to providing broad spectrum SPF 35 protection, it also serves as a remarkably effective makeup primer that diminishes the appearance of enlarged pores.
For all skin-types. Non-comedogenic. Does not contain mineral oil, aminobenzoic acid, homosalate, oxybenzone or octinoxate.
Formulated without: Mineral Oil, Synthetic Colors, Synthetic Fragrances, Sulfate Detergents, Parabens, PEGs, PPGs, Urea, DEA, TEA or Phthalates.
Ingredients: Active Ingredients: Zinc Oxide 15%, Octisalate 5%. Inactive Ingredients: Water, Isododecane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Propanediol, Hdi/trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Octyldodecyl Neopentanoate, Behenyl Alcohol, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Rosa Multiflora Fruit Extract, Eriobotrya Japonica Leaf Extract, Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate (Licorice Extract), Glycyrrhiza Inflata (Licorice) Root Extract, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract, Pistacia Lentiscus (Mastic) Gum, Sericin (Silk Extract), Algae Extract, Lecithin, Inositol (Rice Extract), Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Sorbitan Tristearate, Sodium Dilauramidoglutamide Lysine, Silica, Potassium Sorbate, Beheneth-20, Sodium Acrylate/Acryloyldimethyltaurate/Dimethylacrylamide Crosspolymer, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Titanium Dioxide, Methicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethiconol, Disodium Edta, Iron Oxides (Ci77491), Tin Oxide, Mica, Fragrance (Natural), Ethylhexylglycerin, Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol.
Overall Assessment: This thoughtfully produced and ultra-luxurious sunscreen is a definite game-changer. Once you try it, you won't ever want to be without it. Be advised that your other sunscreens and primers will suffer from neglect once you begin using TATCHA SILKEN Pore Perfecting Sunscreen. An unmitigated A+!

  1. Maybe I got a bad batch, but I was woefully disappointed in this product. I ordered it from Barney's during one of the beauty bag events last year. In your photos the product appears to have a pinkish tint but mine is totally white - thick and almost chalky. It does not spread easily and is somewhat drying. It even seems kind of of pore-clogging. I was so hoping to love it as all the bloggers rave about it. And such a large tube - I'll be using it on the back of my hands forever! I have really loved the other Tatcha products I've tried (cleansing oil, rice powder, moisturizers) so this was a surprising disappointment.
Any word on the dates of the February Barneys Bag this year? Thank you!

    1. Hi Nina!! :-)

Wow, that doesn't sound at all normal! I would exchange it for another one. I wonder if yours cooked on the truck during shipping?! Mine looks a touch pink coming out of the tube, but is definitely more white on the skin. It melts into my skin immediately and becomes completely transparent. Mine is neither too thick, nor in the least bit chalky, and it disappears completely so it doesn't accentuate pores at all. Mine spreads super easily, and is actually a touch hydrating rather than drying. It really sounds as though your tube underwent some sort of chemical transformation– which could be explained by overheating while being transported. I would definitely exchange it for a new tube. I'm so sorry to hear that has been your experience!

Barneys is doing their LOVE YOURSELF Bag Event is the first week in March this year, and Space NK is having theirs in February. Funny that you should ask because I was just contacted by both. Once I have the official dates I will let you know! :-)

    2. Thank you so much for all the info on the beauty event dates! It's way too late for me to return the sunscreen. :( I got it right after it was first released last year. I will bring it with me to Barneys next time I'm in NYC and see how it compares to the tester there.

    3. You are so welcome, Nina (as you already know, that's my sister's name too– and I smile each and every time you and I interact :). I will let you know the moment they release all of the specific dates and information. Space NK is sending me the gift bag soon, and I will photograph as soon as I receive it so that you can see what they are giving away this time around.

I am just so bummed out that you got such a weird TATCHA sunscreen. If you would like, I can ask someone at TATCHA if they have ever seen this happen before.

    4. I wish I had known about that travel size before I ordered the full size! If you have the chance to ask Tatcha about it that would be great.
I have always been fascinated with names since mine is unusual for a baby boomer. As a child I didn't always like having a unique name but of course as an adult I enjoy it!
Looking forward to the SpaceNK photos although I don't think I can justify 2 big indulgences and I always love my Barneys Bag. By the way, I found the fantastic Barneys Chanel SA Irene through the comments here on your blog! I still haven't met her in person but have been ordering from her for a few years, so a big thank you for that as well!

    5. I don't know whether or not they had the travel size when you bought it last year, but it is definitely a good idea to try their sample sizes first when in doubt. I don't think that Barneys sells the travel sizes, but it's very nice shopping through TATCHA directly and their customer service is extraordinary. Of course that doesn't get you closer to the Barneys LOVE YOURSELF Gift Bag, but I think that it is something to consider when you aren't sure about whether a product will be a good fit for you.

I, too, am fascinated by names. Nina is an especially good one. I think that my sister felt the same way about her name and a child, as did I about being named Helen when I seemed to be the only person in the world under 100 with that name when I was a child!

I know what you mean, it is an expensive undertaking considering both of those gift bag events, but if you need to stock up on things from both places, it certainly is the time of year to do it!

I am so glad that you found out about Irene here! I absolutely adore her. We were just texting back and forth the other day, and I am always reminded of what a special person she is. When you go and see her, please give her a huge hug for me!

I hope that you have a really lovely afternoon! <3

    6. Hi Nina,

Oh, Nina! You definitely got a bad tube. If you had purchased it from Tatcha, they'd tell you to send it back immediately, no questions asked; no hassle. Although they typically let their various retailers deal with returns, if you contact Tatcha directly, I bet they'd work something out with you. You can get their contact information by visiting their website. Tatcha is beyond gracious when it comes to customer service and, despite their phenomenal growth over the past few years, they've retained their heart and soul. Contact them.

    7. Hi Nina, I sent an email to TATCHA yesterday afternoon, and will let you know what they say when they respond!

    8. @Eileen, Thank you so much for weighing in on this! I agree completely, Nina definitely got a bad tube since her sunscreen sounds nothing like mine. TATCHA does have exemplary service, and I'm sure that they will be very helpful.

    9. Hi Nina! I just received a response from TATCHA about your defective sunscreen. Please be sure to let them know that this came directly from Christine Chun:

"I read Nina's comments on your blog post about our SPF. Please let her know that if she emails info@tatcha.com or calls in 1-888-739-2932 Ext. 1 regarding the trouble she experienced, we will be more than happy to resend her a new item. It sounds like she may have received a defective product. She can reference my name when speaking with our Customer Care representative."

TATCHA has truly legendary customer service. If, for any reason, you have trouble then let me know and I will get back in touch with Christine. :-)

  2. How does this compare to Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield SPF 30 and Elta MD UV Clear SPF 46? There are different products, but I would be using them for the same thing- a primer with some sun protection and beneficial skin ingredients. There are so many good products out there, but I can't buy them all and am trying to streamline my routine. Perhaps I'll try a sample of Tatcha's sunscreen and go from there.

    1. Hi Kirsten,

Believe it or not, I haven't tried either the Murad or the Elta sunscreens– though I feel as though I may have received a sample size of the Murad.

I agree with you that there are so many good products out there, and you certainly can't buy them all! I am really impressed by this sunscreen, and would suggest trying their travel size for $13.00 to see if you love it enough to buy the full size. It definitely has wonderful skincare ingredients, and works as a primer– so if you love it it's a real coup! If you don't, then at least you have only spent $13.00 instead of $68.00! Keep me posted, I would love to hear what you think about it if you try it! :-)

    2. Sure, not sure if Murad is worth it (I am new to product), but I buy the Elta MD in bulk. Is a mostly physical sunscreen that sinks right in and is loaded with B3, E and hyaluronic acid, oh and it seems every dermatologist under the sun recommends it. I don't bother with a moisturizer if I'm wearing it!

    3. Wow, the Elta MD sounds AMAZING! B3, E and Hyaluronic Acid?! I can see why you don't need to where a moisturizer when you are wearing it! Thanks for the information! I will definitely put it on my list of sunscreens to try!

  3. I wish this wasn't so expensive but when you think about it it does take the place of 2 products. Do you think the fragrance lingers?

    1. It's definitely not inexpensive, but it knocks out the need for an additional primer. The scent is barely detectable out of the tube, and it disappears altogether when it melt into the skin. I do not think that you would have any issues with it. You could also try their $13.00 travel size to see if you like it before committing to the full size tube.

  4. I would love to try that product someday since it has eliminated alot of "bad ingredients" unlike mainstream beauty brands!

    1. Hi Ursula! It is definitely an incredible sunscreen, and I agree with you about the importance of eliminating the bad ingredients! You can use their sunscreen without fear of absorbing so many chemicals found in traditional/mainstream sunscreens.

  5. I have a sample size of this product and I absolutely love it. I wish it wasn't so costly but I know that it's worth it.

    1. Isn't it incredible, Honey?! It's definitely not inexpensive, but the 2 oz. tube goes a long way, and it eliminates the need for a primer so it becomes a bit more economical in that regard.

  6. I love that this does it all- primer, sunscreen, minimizes pores. Plus, the tube is such a great colour (because that is totally important... :D)

    1. Me too, Bailey! It does everything that you could ever want a sunscreen to do, and with so many great skincare ingredients! I love the color of the tube as well!
