Carisa Janes is the Founder and CEO of Hourglass, which she launched in 2004 as a next generation luxury beauty brand. Throughout her career Ms. Janes has displayed an unwavering commitment to developing groundbreaking cosmetic products. Her efforts to create cutting-edge formulations and packaging have positioned Hourglass as an innovator in the prestige beauty category.

Ms. Janes entered the beauty industry almost two decades ago after attending Parsons School of Design in New York. As an original member of Urban Decay’s creative team in 1996, she helped cultivate the now iconic brand. In 1997 Ms. Janes created Body & Soul, a prestige color cosmetics line for the retailer of the same name, which was also available at Barneys New York, Nordstrom and Sephora. She next established ISA Design, a beauty consulting firm serving a range of clients including several well-known global beauty brands.  In 1999 Glamour magazine saluted Ms. Janes as “the world’s youngest beauty-biz veteran.”

In 2000, Ms. Janes noticed a void in the marketplace for a new kind of luxury beauty brand—one with a focus on advanced ingredients, modern design and exceptional functionality. Four years in the making, Ms. Janes launched Hourglass as an entire color collection, including Veil Fluid Makeup, a revolutionary foundation that merged skincare and cosmetics by integrating clinical levels of anti-aging ingredients.

Hourglass, a privately-held company, originally launched at Barneys New York and is also available in Bergdorf Goodman, Sephora and Space NK in the US. In the last few years, Ms. Janes has expanded the company’s international presence and distribution channels. The brand is now available worldwide in over 400 stores. This year, to celebrate its 10-year anniversary, Hourglass opened the brand’s first-ever freestanding store in Venice, CA.
