Avalon Organics Vitamin C Renewal Moisture Plus Lotion SPF 15 Review

Purchased by Me (Affiliate Links)

I have used products from Avalon Organics on and off over the years, and have always enjoyed the high quality, efficacy and affordability of their products. It was because of my faith in the brand that I made the blind purchase of their Vitamin C Renewal Moisture Plus Lotion SPF 15 without having done any product research, and without reading a single review.

According to Avalon Organics,

This daily moisture lotion provides daily UVA and UVB protection plus organic Sunflower, Jojoba and Borage oils to repair and nourish. Fortified with antioxidant-rich Vitamin C, Lemon Bioflavonoids and White Tea to soothe oxidative stress and help fight the visible signs of photo-aging.

  • Product is preserved with Sodium Benzoate.
Directions for use: Apply liberally after cleansing and toning and 15 minutes before sun exposure.

I am a huge proponent of Vitamin C based skincare products because they work wonders for brightening and evening out skin-tone. I really like this lotion, but must state up front that I wish that it contained an SPF 30 instead of a 15. I realize that it was made as a lotion with an SPF rather than as a sunscreen that happens also to have moisturizing properties, but I don't leave the house wearing anything less than an SPF 30-- therefore I use an additional sunscreen when I use this lotion.

It is a very thick lotion, and the texture itself is quite matte, a feature that will no doubt appeal to people with combination to oily skin the most since it does seem to keep skin balanced. I love the moisturizing and brightening effects that I experience with this lotion, but when I want a less matte finish I simply add a drop or two of one of my favorite beauty oils to this lotion and I get the perfect finish that I desire.

Overall assessment: A lovely brightening Vitamin C moisture lotion with a Broad Spectrum SPF 15. I always use an additional sunscreen with a higher SPF when using this lotion since an SPF 15 doesn't offer me enough protection. The matte texture makes it especially well suited to people with combination to oily skin, but the hydrating antioxidant rich formula will likely appeal to many skin types. However, I suspect that the matte texture will be off-putting and less-than-ideal for people with drier skin. I am pleased with my purchase, and definitely see using this lotion for my combination skin during the warm months of summer.
