Empties Post Volume XIII: August 2013 Edition

August was a rather quiet month with respect to generating empties- largely because I was testing out lots of different full sized products.

I only managed to get through one full size product, and that was a bar of soap that I used in the shower (the box in the lower left corner). I also used up the remainder of my Perlier 8-Piece Mini Bath & Body Set and let me just say that I loved every minute of each and every product! The tube slain in battle by Lucy was living on my desk until one day unbeknownst to me one of the cats knocked it off of the desk onto the floor, and anything on the floor is fair game for the orally fixated Lucy.

Next to the soap box are two small glass bottles that both contained my beloved Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Face Oil- I know that you know that I am head over heals in love with this oil, but what you may not know is that I actually love it more today than when I first started effusively gushing about this amazing face oil.

I loved both of the REN products that I used up: The Frankincense Revitalizing Night Cream and their Jojoba Microbead Purifying Facial Polish. Both came from  my nearly used up REN Six of the Best Set that I highly recommend to anyone one interested in testing out the line.

The pile of little Aesop packets is nearly entirely their Parsley Seed Serum- I used some and poured the remainder into a little bottle. I haven't used it long enough to have formed an opinion yet.

The Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish and Brown Sugar Body Cream are luscious smelling and feel wonderful on the body. I keep meaning to buy a Fresh body oil, and will eventually get around to it.

Other miscellaneous samples were also used up, but none generated enough interest to purchase- nor did I use them long enough to form an opinion.

What did you use up, toss, or give away this month?

    1. Hi Joyce, I do try to make a dent each month. I'm curious about Aesop as well. However, I will say that I was rather surprised and disappointed to see that The Parsley Seed Serum contains PEGs and other ingredients that I would not have expected to see on the list. Also the Parsley Seed Oil is at the bottom of the list of ingredients (third to last).

  2. It's undeniable that keeping our "garbage" is peculiar; yet, empties posts like keep me motivated to use what I have. I'm becoming less of a consumer and more of an appreciator (That's a word. ???!?!!) of my possessions. Decluttering my beauty wardrobe has extended to decluttering my home effects. I feel freer.

Ok, on with my empties (plagiarized from my comment on ChloeAsh):
One blush (part of a palette), a tube of mascara, several bottles/tubes of skincare and sunscreen, and a bottle of shampoo and a bottle of conditioner (finally!). I tossed a couple eyeshadows I don't touch.

As for household things, we've donated a few boxes of stuff we don't use, don't need, or have doubles/better versions of. I've made a couple trips to the women's shelter with clothes and beauty products.

The highlight of the month was bringing my fiancé on board with a "one in, one out" policy. Now, when I'm about to buy something, I do a mental check and to identify the specific item that will leave my home. I hope I can keep this up!

    1. Peculiar indeed! I always feel so great at the end of the month when I can recycle the contents of my empties bag. It is also quite satisfying watching it fill during the month though. It was a particularly odd phenomenon for me in the beginning since I love purging things-- and holding on to empty containers felt a touch deranged to me!!!!

Very nice job on your empties, Boo!

I take my hat off to you for purging things that are duplicative or just unneeded! The "one in, one out" policy is brilliant. I have done that in the past. I love that you have been donating to the women's shelter. I need to do that at some point-- and one can only imagine how great the need in a city as large as Los Angeles!

      Have a lovely weekend!!!!
