Barneys Love Yourself Bag Event February 13-16, 2013

I thought that the Barneys Love Yourself Bag Event was beginning on Valentine's Day, but they thought better of it and decided to start it on my birthday instead!! Does this give me license to spend, I think so!

  1. I wonder if the bag will be better than last time?! I was so disappointed! Do you know what it looks like/what's in it? TOTAL license to spend :)

    1. Hi katie! I have absolutely no details yet. Barneys tries to keep it under wraps until much closer to the event! I'm very curious to see what they do this time. I hope that it's a fabulous bag filled with must-haves :-) Thanks for endorsing my license to spend- LOL!

    1. It's so funny-- I keep going back and forth between a ridiculously long list of things to getting nothing at all! I don't need a thing, and I already have such a HUGE stash of skincare and makeup that I need to use! :-)

  4. Oh, is it that time of year again? I am too weak to resist the call of the Barneys Love Yourself event! I dream that the bag will be oversized and straining at the seams from the multiple fullsize gifts and deluxe samples. I agree with the generally disappointed consensus about the Septmber 2012 bag.

The info about step up offers and special SAs is so great! Please keep posting. Your blog is my official source for all Barney's NY Beauty and, also, not a few skincare obsessions. :)

    1. Hi Makeup Remastered! I had initially been told that the event was going to be from Feb. 14-16, but then I received this card in the mail stating that it would begin on the 13th instead. I'm not sure whether or not they will ship internationally. I will see what I can find out. :-)

  6. I just placed my order with my sales associate. It's a good time to stock up on Sunday Riley products. When you spend $250 with SR you receive a FULL SIZED primer. You also receive a full sized SR Lipstick with every $100 you spend. You get the gift bag with any beuty purchase of $200 - I was told it will have Keyvin Aucoin - Full size (product TBD), Lippman - Nail Polish, Sue Devitt - Full size Eye Pencil and SR is also throwing in a deluxe sample sized Juno! Juno is one of the products I purchased anyways so it'll be great to have the little one for travel!

    1. "You also receive a full sized SR Lipstick with every $100 you spend." ... does that mean if you spend $200 you get two lipsticks? Do you get to choose the color?

      Delete
    2. Nice! I don't know if you get two lipsticks if you spend $200.00, or if you get to choose the color. My GUESS is that you probably don't get multiple lipsticks, and they probably have a preselected color for the step up gift. I will ask about it to find out. I will let you know what I find out! :-)

    3. I think it depends on the sales person. The woman I ordered with has been helping me for years and she asked me what colors I wanted for the lipsticks (as I qualified for two) and what shade I was for the Primer, their step-up gift. She also offered to send along a little shipment of some samples to tide me over until my actual products & bag arrive next week. It really pays off to have a good personal relationship with your sales representative!

    4. That's definitely true!! That kind of customer service goes a long long way, and makes loyal happy customers. And frankly when you are spending lots of money on expensive products one hopes to get a high level of customer service!!! A good personal relationship with your SA is key!

    5. I am so jealous. I live in Canada and as a result don't get the opportunity to cultivate a good personal relationship with SAs at Barneys :( ... I am going to try to get in on the Love Yourself Event this year ... can either of you recommend a good SA that might help me get a few extra goodies? Also, Lola, do you know of any other step-up gifts (different brands)? I figure, if I am placing an order, I had better make it worth while ;)

    6. I just posted information about many of the step-up gifts here:

      http://lolassecretbeautyblog.blogspot.com/2013/02/barneys-love-yourself-bag-event-details.html

They are already pretty busy- and so you don't have to potentially have to sit on hold waiting for a particular SA who is taking orders- I would suggest calling their Apothecary area (which happens to be where all of my favorite brands). Everyone there is awesome, and they can get you anything that you need! (310) 276-4400 Ext. 5613.

      :-)

    7. Yes, for every $100.00 you spend with Sunday Riley, you get a free lipstick. I just spoke with the Rep and she said there are something like 5 shades to chose from-- so you can potentially end up with a pile of lipsticks. Additionally, once you hit $250.00 you receive the free full size primer in whatever shade you want.

  7. I have never done one of these but I want to! The Neiman Marcus one last year was a joke...big tote w/very few samples. So stingy!! :( From what I have seen you post in the past, Barneys does it right.

  10. I guess I'm one of the few that loved the 9/2012 bag! I'm so looking forward to this as there are a few items I need and that's all it takes to add up to $200! And now maybe I'll add the Olio Lusso hair oil!

    1. I think that there are plenty of people who like the last event and bag, but I thing that many people were just surprised by the difference between the last two event bags.

Oh do I ever know what mean, Nina! I can get to the minimum in 1-2 products quite easily!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Olio Lusso Hair Oil- it really works wonders on my hair! Another pleasant surprise from Rodin!!!<3

  12. I just got an email from the SA I ordered from last time... Whoever said this years bag is better than last Sept is totally lying.. I don't think it's better at all. It seems like the two full sized products are the same. A Sue Devitt eyeliner and a Kevyn Aucoin lipgloss (in a different color). I haven't even tried the two I have from the last bag... I have a picture of the bag but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to share it. Maybe I can email it to you?

Also, I found your blog last Sept because I googled Barneys beauty event and I've been following ever since. :)

    1. Very interesting information, AZ! I am calling today to try to get the scoop. I would love for you to email me the picture of the gift bag-- I definitely won't post it. I only ever release information and pictures after Barneys says it's okay.

I'm so happy that you have stuck with me since discovering my blog last September-- thanks, you made my day! :-)

    1. I'm so glad that you feel that way!!!! I was actually on the phone with my friend with a who works at Barneys who said that it should go live at midnight. I would urge you to order from a store though-- because they can let you know if they are sold out of what you want immediately, they can get you step-up gifts (which aren't available for online shopping), and they generally send you more samples! Let me know what you end up getting!

  14. Quick comment:

Noticing the picture from the last event compared to this one compared to last Feb. event... each bag has fewer and fewer and fewer contents. If the pictures went up, it wouldn't be so noticeable but since they are.... : (

Interesting to see what the NEXT Beauty Event Bag contains.

    1. I wonder if it is a sign of a downturned economy. It is very expensive for the vendors to furnish those samples, and I imagine that many of them might not have the budget to furnish these samples. A lot of the smaller companies simply don't participate- I assume because of the cost.

  15. Very true and yet... look at the $$$$ Barney's is pulling in JUST with this event. Products already selling out at full retail price? The incentive is the extra goody, don't you think? Else, why purchase now instead of later? We discussed this the last time around... at some point, why should a savvy consumer purchase high end products for freebies that can be had for little to nothing when you purchase elsewhere or purchase with a 20% savings overall?

I'll wait and see what my bag contains and then decide if the event will be something I pass over from this point on. I should add that NONE of the lines I use offer a step-up gift. How disappointing is that?

    1. A very valid point. However, from my understanding these step-ups and the goodies that go in the bag are at the discretion of the vendor, and some of them just opt out. There were numerous lines that didn't participate this time around-- I'm pretty sure Barneys would have liked it if they had. Because we do get drawn in by great gifts with purchase-- especially when they are full size products. Sometimes my head starts spinning and in the past I have been willing to buy backup skincare items just to get the free gift. No question that Barneys makes a fortune during Bag Events, but I don't think that they can force companies to furnish them with free gifts. That said, whatever the cause- that doesn't change the fact that once the consumer has come to expect unbelievably great gifts with purchase once things shift away from the expectation based upon past experience with fabulous gift- there is a real sense of loss and disappointment. I think this is particularly pronounced when we are talking about luxury products with very high price tags. Then the consumer is left paying a lot of money, but feeling like they are getting a whole lot less bang for their buck. No way not to be disappointed when that happens. :-(

Wow, none of them?! None of the lines that I am thinking of buying from this time are offering Step-Up gifts either. Kind of a bummer!!! Most of the companies that I am thinking about this are really small-- so they probably can't afford it.

  16. Hi, just wanted to give an update because I spoke with my gal at BNY to inquire about the Fall Love Yourself Event and she said it would be the 3rd week in October. I had been waiting because I need La Mer cream but I am out so I may have to purchase now and get other goodies at the Barney's event.

    1. Hi Carol!! Thanks for the information!!!!!!! I wonder if there is any way that your SA could give you a few samples to hold you over for a while? It's so much nicer getting the gift bag-- especially since one La Mer Cream would equal the gift bag!!!!!!! :-)
