By Request: Taupelicious with Rouge Bunny Rouge Solstice Halcyon & Burberry Rosewood

Left to Right: Burberry Rosewood No. 9, Rouge Bunny Rouge Solstice Halcyon, Chatecaille Sel, NARS 413 BLKR,  and NARS Lhasa.

This post was born out of a conversation I was having with Naomi who saw my tweet about Rouge Bunny Rouge Solstice Halcyon being the perfect taupe. She asked how it compared to Burberry Rosewood, so in lieu of simply describing it- it seemed only logical to do a post. I thought I would add in a few more shadows that fall somewhere on the taupe spectrum in order to contextualize the similarities and differences.
Clearly Rosewood and Solstice Halcyon are closest in hue. I would characterize Solstice Halcyon as perhaps just a touch more pink and Rosewood a touch more brown. They are close, but not an exact match. They are both buttery smooth and of the highest quality- therefore you can't go wrong with either.

Is it worth having both? Well, to me it is because I am irrationally and madly in love with both of them. Do you need both? That's up to you!

Sel is considerably warmer and browner by comparison. 413 BLKR's cool grey lavender undertones are absolutely made manifest sandwiched between Sel and Lhasa. Finally, Lhasa is clearly far cooler and than Rosewood, Solstice Halcyon and Sel, and yet nearly appears warm in the face of 413 BLKR.
All of the swatches were photographed outside in the sun.
What is your favorite taupe eyeshadow?

  1. Yummy taupey taupes. I recently purchased Rosewood after seeing it here and it's funny how similar it looks to Solstice Halcyon in pictures. On my lids they are tonally very different. Which is surprising. My lids have the excellent talent of turning all into the same shade of mud! :) What a nice way to start the day... with pretty taupes.

    1. I know- they are super yummy shades of taupe! It's true SH and Rosewood do look similar in the pan and different on the eyes! Do those two turn muddy on your lids? I'm glad that the pretty taupes made you happy!! Sorry I haven't responded to your email yet-- I have been buried at work, but will respond tonight! Have a lovely day! <3

  2. I skipped Rosewood with a plan that I am getting Solstice Halcyon. Lol. If SH is pinker, it looks like the right way to go. :) Thanks!

    1. You are so welcome, Rachel. I find that they are different enough on my eyes that I found it easy to justify both-LOL!! If you are looking for a touch more pink- you will probably prefer SH. You really can't go wrong with either! <3
