Makeup Wars! Features Our Favorite Products from Wet n Wild

The Makeup Wars! Team decided that each one of us would feature our favorite product from Wet n Wild, and while I have scarce few products from the brand, I do have a definite favorite! As someone with a serious penchant for taupe eyeshadows, I long ago discovered the original Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Single in Nutty, and now have their reformulated ,and brand new, version of the same shadow.
Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Single in Nutty is a beautiful taupe shimmer that is surprisingly creamy and smooth for such an affordable shadow. It glides across the skin effortlessly, deposits color evenly, blends perfectly and it is long-wearing. When it does fade, it does so evenly.
 According to Wet n Wild,

Make those striking eyes of yours pop with our improved Color Icon eyeshadow formula. We’ve combined super-saturated pigmentation and pearlescents into our go-to singles. The satiny texture feels as good as it looks–sans fading or creasing–with better blendability and major staying power.
I happened to still have a depotted pan of the original Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Single in Nutty, and therefore thought that I would compare it to the newly reformulated version. The first, and most obvious difference is that the original Icon Shadows had embossed surfaces, and the new versions boast smooth surfaces. I detect no difference in the texture or longevity, but there is a negligible difference in color between the original and reformulated formulas. I would say that the old formula is a touch cooler and slightly deeper in hue, whereas the new version is a tiny bit warmer and lighter.

Many stores are selling through their original formulas and do not appear to have the new Icon Eyeshadow singles yet, but I most definitely recommend making this guilt-free purchase if you love taupe eyeshadows.

  1. Nutty is one of my faves. IDK I think I like the old version better, even though the differences are so slight!

    1. It's definitely my favorite of their single shadows. The difference is very slight, but the pigmentation is richer and slightly darker in the older version! I agree, though– the older version is a bit more rich.

  2. This is one of my favorite shadows as well. I've been through so many pans of it!

    1. It really is! I completely understand why you have gone though so many pans!

  3. I haven't seen the new Nutty. I swear my local Walgreens, CVS and Walmart suck at ever getting in new drugstore releases. It's almost impossible for me to find things in store. I end up having to buy them online.

    1. Hopefully it will pop up at one of your local stores before too long! That's ridiculous though, those stores should really stock these new products knowing how quickly they will sell, and how much demand there is for them!

  4. Not too much difference between old and new, but both are very pretty! I also don't have too many WnW products, but what I have I like.

    1. Agreed, there really isn't a tremendous amount of difference between them. I feel the same way!

  5. I really look forward to The Makeup Wars posts! I’ve seen Nutty but in old formula! It’s awesome to have something reliable so cheap and accessible at so many stores!!

    1. Thanks, Judy! They are a lot of fun to do! Nutty such a great shade, and the old formula is worth picking up if they don't have the new one. It's really great to find such a great taupe at such an affordable price! I agree with you about price and accessibility! No wonder the WnW displays are always half empty!

  6. Gee, I never even notice the eyeshadows unless they are in a palette, now I'll have to search for nutty!

  8. I've been disappointed not to find this yet since I've misplaced my original Nutty. Right now some stores have very little to sell while they fill in with the changes in the line. What's great is that the prices are still amazingly affordable.

    1. I hear you, Marcia! It took going to a couple of stores before I found it. One of the stores that I went to had a nearly empty display, and the other store had lots of empty slots in the display, but had the single shadows stashed on the side of the display. Most of them had been sold, and there were numerous that were broken, but there were a few left. It is nice that they are still so affordable!

  9. That's a very pretty eyeshadow, though you're right, the older version is a smidgen cooler. I think my favourite WnW product is the Catsuit Matte Lipstick in Rebel Rose.

  10. Nutty is my favorite all-over-lid shade when I want something quick. I think the new shade looks a bit more bronzy

    1. Nutty is one of my favorite go-to wash of color taupes! Yes, I agree that the new version is a bit more bronze.

  11. Oh gosh, I forget about Nutty! I used to love it. I really don't use singles anymore. I tend to reach only for palettes that already have coordinated shades in them.

    1. What's not to love?! Nutty is such a great shade! Palettes are definitely more convenient– that is part of the reason that I depotted most of my shadows and put them in a big palette!
