Makeup Wars Non-Glam Beauty Essentials Picks

Purchased (Affiliate Links)

When the Makeup Wars! Team decided to feature non-glam beauty essentials, I thought about the short list of daily picks that I am never without, and that I always repurchase. It became very clear to me that there were only a few things that I always keep on hand, and since the focus is non-glam that really excluded skincare and makeup. Here is a very short and concise list of the non-glam things that I have been repurchasing for years and use all of the time:

1) Organyc 100% Organic Cotton Rounds ($9.09 for a 3-pack from Amazon): I use these every single day to remove makeup, to apply a toner or facial mists that don't spray finely enough, to apply alcohol to the occasional cat scratch, to remove nail polish, and to do anything else that I can think of. They are absolutely indispensable, and they waste less product than cotton balls. They also work well to blend foundation in a pinch when you may not have a foundation brush or sponge handy.
2) Kiss My Face Cucumber Green Tea Active Life Deodorant ($4.68-$5.99 for 2.48 oz. Amazon, Walmart and Whole Foods Market): I have long used more natural deodorants, and this is the one that I have repeatedly repurchased for many years. It does a good job deodorizing, isn't filled with chemicals, doesn't leave a white residue on clothing and it has a wonderful fresh scent. I couldn't even begin to guess how many of these I have purchased over the years.
  • No aluminum chlorohydrate parabens.
  • Naturally effective.
  • Cruelty-Free.
  • Sheer, clinically proven all day protection with effective odor absorbing ingredients & natural antioxidant Defenders.
Ingredients: Propylene Glycol, Aqua, Sodium Stearate, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera Leaf Juice), Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel Distillate), Zinc Ricinoleate, Steareth-100, Polyglyceryl-3 Caprate, Glyceryl Stearate, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit Seed Extract), Sucrose Cocoate, Glycerin, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary Leaf Extract), Salvia Officinalis (Sage Leaf Extract), Coriandrum Sativum (Coriander Seed Extract), Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme Leaf Extract), Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea Leaf Extract),
3) Trader Joe's Moisturizing Cream Shave Honey Mango ($3.49 for 8 oz. from Trader Joe's. They can also be purchased on Amazon): This is an emollient, moisturizing and delectably aromatic shaving cream that is very effective and such a pleasure to use. It should be noted that it neither clogs the razor, nor does it leave behind a greasy film, and it is very well suited for sensitive skin. It gives a very clean and close shave and leaves skin silky smooth and soft. My husband and I both use and love this, and therefore we tend to buy 3-4 tubes at a time so that we don't run out. This shaving cream is so popular, that my Trader Joe's sometimes even runs out, and you have to wait for them to restock!

  6. I'm definitely going to look into picking up that KMF deodorant. I have tried other natural ones but most don't work all that well.

    1. I have used countless tubes of the Kiss My Face Cucumber Green Tea Deodorant, and I love it. I don't use Chemical-laden deodorants and antiperspirants, and it has been hard finding natural varieties that actually work. This and the Lavanila Healthy Deodorants are my go-to deodorants!

  7. such an interesting list of brands/products that I haven't tried yet. Just curious, I've been seeing a lot about a natural deodorant called Native lately. Have you tried it?

  8. Interesting choices. I will try to remember the cotton pads when I run out of the many boxes I have in the cupboard since those are always a necessity.

  9. I like cotton rounds over cotton balls for skin care. I use cotton balls to remove my nail polish. I've been hesitant to try natural deodorants, like Tom's, because I'm afraid they won't deodorize as well as the other brands. After reading your post, I'll have to pick one up!

    1. Hi Lynn, I do too! Sometimes I use cotton balls to remove nail polish, but more often than not I use cotton rounds for that as well! My favorite natural deodorants are Kiss My Face and Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant. Finding one that works with your body chemistry can be a challenge. It has been trial and error for me, but these two really work for me. It's worth experimenting to see which ones work for you, if you are actively seeking a natural deodorant.

  11. Always cotton rounds! I always bulk buy then am shocked when they're gone so quickly, but they really are must-haves.
