SHU UEMURA Art of Hair has proven to be a superb line with a great many thoughtfully crafted luxurious haircare products, and everything that I have had the pleasure of using has been gentle and nourishing for my naturally curly hair. I am continually astonished by the combination of efficacy and ecstasy that their products engender, and never before have I been so enraptured by shampoos and conditioners as I am by theirs. It is this beautiful balance between highly effective, gentle and nourishing products that are delectable smelling and dreamy to touch that makes SHU UEMURA Art of Hair products such a joy to use.

SHU UEMURA Art of Hair Cleansing Oil Shampoo is described as a, "delicate formula that transforms quickly into a rich foam that effectively draws out the impurities and build-up on the scalp without stripping the natural oils. Leaves hair naturally radiant, soft and in balanced state – volumized and moisturized." Paraben and silicone free.

This shampoo is made for dry scalp and hair, but it will do wonders for all types of hair. It is so gentle and non-stripping that my hair is manageable before I even condition my hair.  It deeply and gently cleanses the hair and scalp, and it hydrates without overdoing it. Hair is never left greasy or feeling dirty, but instead feels nourished, moisturized and soothed. Furthermore, my hair is left soft, supple and shiny when I use this shampoo, and for me that is something that I am generally only able to achieve with a richly moisturizing conditioner. Additionally, the scent is absolutely an intoxicatingly beautiful and refined fruity floral.

Perfect for all hair types and textures, the oil-to-foam formula binds with the grease and product buildup on your scalp before gently whisking them away. At the same time, it respects your hair’s natural oils, so your strands never feel dry or stripped. Finally, it adds bounce and body to your locks while leaving behind a calming yuzu citrus scent. All in all, it’s a true superhero product.

…This product contains precious Neroli Essential Oil that deeply purifies and soothes the scalp and hair while providing the perfect dose of moisture. By respecting the delicate balance of the scalp, smooth and shiny healthy hair is revealed.

The Five Biggest Misconceptions About Hair Oils:

Hair Oils are Heavy: Unlike some oil products that sit on top of the hair, products with Camellia Oil rapidly absorb thanks to a high concentration of lipids and minerals that work to protect and hydrate the hair.

Hair Oil Will Make Your Hair Look Greasy: With the correct application technique and amount of product, hair will appear healthy and shiny – NOT greasy. Only a pea-sized amount of oil should be used on mid–lengths to ends, NEVER roots.

Oil Shouldn't Be Used On Second Day Hair: Oils are a great way to revive second day hair by working to smooth frizz, hydrate dry ends, banish second day dullness and refreshing shine with an added hint of fragrance.

Oil Should Only Be Applied To Wet Hair: In addition to being a great styling aid, oils can be applied to dry hair to add shine, time frizz and flyways, and also as a great pre-shampoo treatment for extra conditioning when applied to dry hair before washing. For extra nourishment, apply to dry hair at night from mid-lengths to ends. Leave on overnight and wash normally in the morning.

All Hair Oils Are The Same: From argan to almond to coconut and Camellia, hair oils each offer unique benefits and nutrients. Choose an oil that is easily absorbed so it doesn't weigh hair down or leave it looking greasy.

Key Ingredients:
Cleansing Oil Shampoo for Dry Scalp & Hair relies on the benefits of Neroli Essential Oil to purify, soothe and calm the scalp while also adding moisture to each strand of hair. Extracted from blossoms of the Bitter Orange Tree, Neroli Essential Oil is renowned for its relaxing effect on the body and mind and has a rejuvenating and regenerative effect on the scalp.

Overall Assessment: While this shampoo is made with dry hair and scalp in mind, it is so gentle and nourishing that its benefits are far more reaching for all types of hair. This is one of the most luxurious and exceptional shampoos that I have ever used, and it is so much more than a mere shampoo that it really deserves a whole different category of its own. It is such a joy to use that I find myself savoring the experience of washing my hair, and that is something that I seldom do! A+

  2. I have a very dry scalp, and because of this, have reduced my hair washes to only when needed. I think I need this in my routine because it sounds so perfect. Thank you so much for the review, or I would never have known about it. :)

    1. I am too, Norah. I have no idea why they made the decision to remove all of the counters here for the makeup line. All of their products are just amazing (at least the ones that I have tried). I am crazy about their haircare products, and this is unquestionably one of the very best shampoos that I have ever used! :-)
