Urban Decay Eyeshadows in Stray Dog and Suspect | Review and Swatches

Purchased by Me (Affiliate Links)

How is it that I didn't know just how truly amazing the Urban Decay single eyeshadows actually are?! Seriously. The texture is so finely milled and the color pay off is so pronounced that if you did a blind test with one of these creamy dreamy velvety textured shadows against the most finely milled über luxury niche lines-- you would be hard-pressed to detect a difference. I had absolutely no idea that the reformulation of Urban Decay's eyeshadows resulted in such soft luscious shadows with the perfect texture, and with such rich color pay off.  The pigmentation is so smooth and yet it offers long-wearing crease-free coverage.

These twinkling little gems are a true pleasure to work with, and not only do they glide across the skin and deposit the pigment effortlessly, but they also offer buildable coverage with no fallout. They blend like a dream, and can be sheered out for a wash of color or built up for maximum opacity and drama.
Urban Decay rightly suggests that their eyeshadows offer,

Insane color payout. A velvety, suede-like smoothness and blendability. Our mind-blowing formula delivers unmatched performance in a stunning array of shades. We created an Eyeshadow formula that will BLOW YOUR MIND....

The secret to the new formula is our Pigment Infusion System™, a vehicle for color that holds tightly to pigment and gives the formula its glide. The proprietary blend of ingredients allows color to weave itself through the Eyeshadow formula. What does all that mean? Insane payout. Color that stays on your lids. Sparkle that doesn’t fall. And a velvety, suede-like smoothness and blendability. This amazing technology works for every shade and finish. Have you ever had trouble blending a black or purple shade? How about a matte? Every Urban Decay shade goes on silky, blends easily and stays put.
The fabulous whimsical packaging "was inspired by NYC subway tokens; the chromed gunmetal compact with a clear window allows you to see your shade and pop your shadows out and into one of the new customizable palettes."
Suspect is an outrageously gorgeous pale golden beige shimmer with a creamy texture that just melts into the skin. The shimmer dances in the light, but isn't over the top.

Stray Dog is described as a cool metallic ash brown shimmer that will cause taupe-lovers to do back flips because it is taupelicious perfection.

As you can clearly see, Suspect and Stray Dog pair together perfectly, and as far as I am concerned they are both must-have neutrals of extraordinary quality.

  1. Great picks, Helen! These are both shades I'd happily wear as a wash! Suspect looks a little like Burberry Pale Barley, although that shade looks wildly different on different people that they could not be similar at all :)

    1. Hi Sunny, You know that's exactly what I was thinking as well! I actually thought about swatching them side by side yesterday, but it was already dark out. I will have to do that today, and will add the swatches!

    2. Hi again, Sunny! What I neglected to mention that in my musings I thought that Stray Dog might also be close to Midnight Brown-- so I pulled out all 4 and swatches, and will do a separate dupe post tomorrow or the next day! Surprising results! :-)

  4. I was a big fan of UD cream matte eyeshadows before the company was sold to L'Oreal and they discontinued them. In fact, I stocked up and still have a bunch of unopened ones that may be too old to use. Oddly enough, I have never tried UD's powder shadows probably because I mostly wear matte shades. But based on your review, I should! The shades look so gorgeous. Maybe the On The Run palette will be my first try.

    1. Hi Allison! Wow!! I bet that they are still good if they were tightly sealed! Next time you are at Sephora you should play with their single shadows-- I think that you will be quite impressed! The On the Run Palette looks like a real winner!!!!!!!!! :-)

  12. to facilitate the plotting of your next purchase, how about coming with me to newport beach on friday for the grand opening of their flagship store? my favorite UD non-LE color is probably zodiac, a sparkling blackened green.

although i'd have to point out my huge stash of UD is being neglected right now due to my love for MUFE artist shadows. they're even creamier, pigmented and easier to blend if you can imagine that being possible! since i know you like seeing things in person, we can drop by the MUFE boutique at south coast on the way back. they carry most of the 200+ shades! i'm guessing I-550 will be right up your alley. my swatch of it will be up in the next day or two

    1. OMG, nothing would make me happier– what a blast we would have! However, I am working under the pressure of a huge work deadline and am basically locked up until I get it sent off! Once I get through this I will definitely have more time, and we can go on a makeup shopping binge! I haven't been to the MUFE Boutique at South Coast, but I have gone several times to the one on Robertson (fabulous, it is!). If you go– I hope that you have an amazing time, and I will be there with you in spirit! I can't wait to see your swatches! :-)

  15. Have you noticed that Urban Decay matches the label colour to the eyeshadow colour?
Kewl, eh? I bought the Sin/Mushroom duo online and the label is a split colour.
