Tom Ford Beauty Platinum Cream Color for Eyes Review | Spice and Platinum Swatches

Purchased by me (Affiliate Links)

Tom Ford Beauty included two glorious Cream Color for Eyes in their Holiday 2014 Collection, and their quality, pigmentation and texture are astounding. Platinum and Spice, both repromotes from 2012, are gorgeous lusciously textured beauties that can be sheered out for a minimalist wash of color or built up for maximum pigmentation. Rather than being dense in texture it has a light whipped consistency that is dreamy to work with.
According to Tom Ford Beauty,

Warm your eyes with alluring, glistening metals that create a seductive, molten-toned look. This highly reflective, ultra pigmented formula combines advanced color technology with antioxidant ingredients to deliver pure, luminous color and an ultra-smooth finish that is non-creasing and long-wearing. Limited-edition.
I purchased Platinum because it is such an extraordinarily beautiful glimmering taupe that I simply could not fathom walking away from the counter without it. The name would suggest that it would be an ultra cool-toned steely shade, but instead it is a very complex metallic taupe with multi-dimensional multi-colored shimmer. In the pot it appears decidedly golden in hue, but on the skin it transforms into a  slightly warm taupe. That said, the multi-colored shimmer particles are both warm and cool-- thereby making this a very easy-to-wear shade for a variety of skin tones (from warm to cool).
Don't allow the suggestion of a metallic finish to scare you off, this is an elegant shade and finish that will neither look garish, no will it appear inappropriate for daytime wear.
It is such a gorgeous cream shadow, housed in a sturdy glass pot, that I felt that it warranted excessive photographs to preserve its beauty in perpetuity!
I seldom purchase back-ups as a general rule, but may have to in the case of Platinum because it is so gorgeous, and because I will definitely use up this entire sparkling gem.
Close examination reveals the twinkling shimmer.
The whipped texture is glorious, and it is so user friendly that one can easily apply it with their fingers or a brush. I have been using my fingers because it is such an fast, easy and effective way to apply this cream shadow.
If you are a fan of cream shadows, then this is a formula well worth trying, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
Platinum and Spice swatches together.
Platinum is a stunning shimmering taupe
Spice is a beautiful warm metallic bronze
Both swatches are applied heavily, but sheered out at the edges to demonstrate the extent to which it is buildable.
Modulating the light shows the chameleon-like nature of both complex shades.
Both colors are rich and luscious.
In the shade, one can see that Platinum is definitely cooler than Spice.
Even in direct sunlight neither shade appears overly metallic. Instead they both possess an elegant and refined shimmer.
Overall Assessment: If you love cream shadows, then these are definitely worth having provided that they are shades that you will wear. As previously note, I am so smitten with Platinum that I am leaning toward buying a backup. Since they are limited edition I would not suggest waiting too long.

These Limited Edition beauties are $42.00 each and can still be found at the following retailers:

Platinum: Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bergdorf Goodman and Bloomingdale's.
Spice: Neiman Marcus, NordstromBergdorf GoodmanSaks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale's (Affiliate Links). If you prefer buying it directly though a store, then I highly recommend calling Michelle Weinstein at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills (310) 550-5900 x2517

    1. Hi Leelo,

Aren't they both just crazy gorgeous?! The formula is so lovely that even people not very into cream eyeshadows would likely be very pleased with these! I suspect that you would really like these! :-)

    1. LOL! I agree. Platinum is an utterly gorgeous must-have shade! I think that Spice is gorgeous, but it's not a shade that I can pull off very easily. My skin is cool, but my eyes are hazel-- and while my eye color gives me some latitude with certain warmer colors my skin is not always accommodating with certain warmer hues. Platinum would look insanely gorgeous on you, and I think that it is a definite must-have for you when the collection makes it to Belgium in February! YOU NEED THIS, Sunny!

  3. This color is GORGEOUS! How would you say these compare to the Make Up For Ever cream shadows?

    1. Hi Jamie,

Aren't they utterly spectacular?! That's such a good question! First I would say that the TF Cream shadows differ from the MUFE Aqua Creams because the texture is a more whipped, light and fluffy one. Also they aren't waterproof the the MUFE Aqua Creams-- which I consider about as bulletproof as you can get in cream shadows-- so in that way you will definitely get longer wear from MUFE, but I also think that TF Cream is more smooth and forgiving on the eyelids since it is whipped, and because it isn't a waterproof formula. I prefer the texture of the TF cream shadow, but I still love my MUFE. If I had to choose just one-- it would be TF, but thankfully I don't have to make that choice!

  4. Oh my god, platinum!!! It looks decadent, almost edible. I want to roll on it like cat on a field of catnip. Gorgeous. I am also tempted by Gucci's Oxydus. Have you tried it? I am the laziest eye shadow wearer, thus, I stopped buying eye shadows a year ago because I just don't wear them but this platinum thing is too beautiful. I think it can look gorgeous as a liner on top of some uber dark matte blue navy. Now I am dreaming! This is what you do to me my darling Helen ;)
I am waiting for your top 10 best luxury oils before I change my night skin care routine again. I do like to change it entirely every 2 to 3 months.
Sending warm hugs to you and your beautiful ones

    1. I know, isn't it an unbelievably decadent and breathtaking shade?! It does almost look edible, I agree! LOL-- the visual of you rolling on it is simply magnificent! I haven't swatched Gucci Oxydus in person, but it seems too warm and has too much copper in it for me (at least from what I can tell). I prefer a color like Platinum for me because it isn't too warm-- or at least the warmth is offset by a certain complexity with enough coolness to make it work. It's funny that you mention using it in conjunction with an über dark matte blue navy-- I have been wearing it with the TF Absolute Noir liner-- and the combination of the blue pearl in the black ground is unbelievably gorgeous with Platinum! I'm definitely a simple wash of color kind of girl with a winged liner-- so I seldom use more than one or two shadows.

I have not forgotten about the top 10 best luxury oils-- I have a list going, but need to narrow it down a bit further. I am trying to get the number down to 10, and have been trying to eliminate a few from the list. I am limiting my selections to oils that I actually still have (that I haven't run out of), and even with that in mind I am still at about 15! I'm getting close though! Sending you lots of love! :-)

  5. I LOVE creamy eyeshadows but they don't love me, haha! I sorta have hooded lids so they crease terribly on me but besides the point, these are glorious, especially Platinum!

    1. Hi Dani,

Cream shadows can definitely be tricky. Have you tried the MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Creams? They are waterproof and budge-proof! I agree that Platinum is especially gorgeous! :-)
