Burberry Lip Definer in Nude Beige No. 01 & Rosewood No. 07 Review & Swatches

Purchased by me. Affiliate Links.
According to Burberry their Lip Definer lip pencils boast,

A delicate texture with a high concentration of natural waxes and vegetal oils to give suppleness to the lips. An ultimate soft and smooth gliding liner that effortlessly defines the lip line. Extremely adherent, soft and moisturizing, it wraps the lips in naturally even color. An Amino acidic derivative with hydrating power improves firmness around the lip contour.

Being a Burberry enthusiast I had to pick up a couple of these lip liners to try them out. I had read some mixed reviews, but wasn't dissuaded because I really have a great degree of brand confidence. Furthermore, when I swatched them in store I was sold. One of the chief criticisms I read asserted that  the lip pencils were hard and tugged on their lips (I wonder if those were old uncapped testers, or from a bad lot?). That has not been my experience, at all. I purchased Nude Beige and Rosewood, and both are creamy and smooth as they effortlessly slide across my lips, (there is no tugging whatsoever). They are richly pigmented, comfortable to wear, lightweight on the lips, and non-drying. In fact, I have found them to be moisturizing, but they are not so emollient that they have the tendency to slide off of my lips. Once applied they really stay put for many hours. Each Lip Definer includes a sharpener, and it should be noted that the shape of the pencil itself is square (a novel design detail that prevents it from rolling away). I think that these are quite lovely, and I want more of them!
Nude Beige is a stunning nude honey beige with gorgeous pearl.
Rosewood is a beautiful rosy brown nude.

  2. Ah! I had bought a Rosewood one and then got rid of it. I loved the color so much, but maybe I got a bad one. It was very dry and hard. :(

    1. GAAAAAAAA! That is such a bummer that you got a bad one! :/ I hope that you returned it and told them that it was defective!!!! Neither of mine are in the least bit dry. You might want to run into Saks on your lunch break at some point and see if you can find a soft and juicy Rosewood--- it's soooooooo pretty!

    1. I do too, Jannatul. The extra depth offered by the bit of sparkle makes it even more beautiful!

  4. I have never been one to fuss with lip liners much. I do have a clear one that I'd break out on the odd occasion that I'd wear a brighter fuschia or red. But MLBB shades, I couldn't be bothered. However, as time marches on I am finding that even for MLBB a lip liner makes a difference. I do prefer the MLBB variety for all colors rather than trying to pinpoint an exact match. Lazy, yes I know. Rosewood looks like it might be a good choice. Off to look at Nordstrom's site. Still wishing I had access to Burberry IRL.

    1. Hi lov2read68! I know just what you mean. I go through lipliner phases. I definitely prefer those in the realm of the ideal MLBB as well. The whole matchy matchy lipliner to lipstick thing does take so much effort to find- so I just pick colors that I like and wear them with whatever they look good with in my collection! A very unscientific method-LOL! Rosewood is definitely a staple in this regard. I'm very happy with it. It's definitely worth looking at if you need this type of lip liner, but since it is part of their permanent collection you don't have to feel compelled to buy before they sell out. It's a shame that the Burberry counters are so few and far between-- I will keep my fingers crossed that one of your local stores gets a Burberry counter (it might be a bit of a mixed blessing for you and your wallet though)!!!!

  5. They are both really pretty! I love the Nude Beige especially! I tend not to fuss with lipliners too much. The only one I use on a regular basis is MAC Subculture. It's pretty similar to these shades!

    1. Hi Amber! Thanks for stopping by! Nude Beige is AWESOME!! I used to have MAC Subculture-- it's definitely in this same color family. I really love these Burberry lipliners. I often skin lip liners altogether- but the one's that I REALLY love and reach for are from Burberry and Rouge Bunny Rouge. :-)

    1. I think that they were discontinued a long time ago. I reviewed these almost 10 years ago, and in that time so many of their products that I used at that time seem to have been discontinued.
