Skin Actives Collagen Serum Review

Press Sample (Unaffiliated Links)

I recently discovered Skin Actives Collagen Serum, which is vegan and cruelty-free, and I am quite impressed by its ability to effectively hydrate skin and plump fine lines. Created by skin care scientist, Dr. Hannah Sivak, Ph.D., this serum is formulated with a combination of epidermal growth factor (EGF),  hyaluronic acid and sea kelp bioferment. These ingredients were carefully selected for their efficacy in plumping fine lines and wrinkles, hydrating the skin, promotes collagen synthesis and improving the texture and tone of the skin.

The serum is a lightweight liquid that immediately melts into the skin without leaving behind any sort of residue, and the hyaluronic acid immediately renders the skin deeply hydrated. It is quite concentrated, and therefore only a small amount is needed for the face, neck and décolleté. I consistently note that my skin is left soft, smooth, hydrated, luminous, and the few fine lines that I have are lightly plumped. It is fragrance-free, and has no detectable aroma, and therefore will not bother anyone with a sensitivity to fragrant skincare products. They also have a version of this serum that is not vegan, but I do not have it, and therefore cannot compare the two.
According to Skin Actives,

Our vegan Collagen Serum helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This simplified serum will help maintain your skin's youthful vitality.

The formulas (the vegan and non-vegan serums) feature epidermal growth factor (EGF), which promotes synthesis of collagen and other macromolecules in the dermal matrix, including elastin and hyaluronic acid. Application of EGF to aging skin will support natural skin cell rejuvenation and revitalization, which otherwise decrease with age. Additionally, the serum includes L-carnosine and other ingredients that prevent collagen breakdown and glycation, plus hyaluronic acid and sea kelp bioferment for moisturization, contributing significantly to skin health. Together, the active ingredients all battle skin drying and aging. As a result of careful formulation, the Skin Actives Scientific Collagen Serums reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and improves overall tone and texture.

Collagen fibers give the skin resistance to strain and traction. Collagen constitutes about 70% of skin protein, but total collagen decreases about 1% per year. It may look like a small decline, but as such a major component of the skin, it will affect skin volume and its physical properties. Also, aging changes collagen structure. What was once an organized pattern in young skin, becomes an assembly of disorganized bundles of thick fibrils in older skin. It is not only quantity that matters, it is also quality.

Features:
