Guerlain Rouge G Lipstick in Gemma #64 | Review and Swatches

 Purchased (Affiliate Links)

If you have an obsession with ultra-luxe lipsticks, then you have unquestionably taken notice of
Guerlain Rouge G Lipsticks. The breathtakingly beautiful lipstick compact is a gorgeous work of art, and its sculptural form would have even impressed Benvenuto Cellini had be been born into this century or last.

According to Guerlain,

A jewel lipstick compact with a white-gold shimmer designed by Lorenz Bäumer, the young and talented jeweler in Place Vendôme. A horizontal design with feminine curves that houses a secret: a mirror automatically appears when the compact is opened. The lipstick has a purely elegant, contemporary design and closes magnetically. This exceptional object boasts a comprehensive, premium formula containing a star ingredient: ruby powder, which acts as an optical whitener to bring out the color and shine of the shades. The blend of natural active ingredients (Tiger Grass, wild mango butter, Gugul resin used in Ayurvedic medicine) completes the formula to plump up, smooth and bring moisture and softness to your lips.
I have been wearing Guerlain Rouge G Lipstick in Gabrielle #60 (Reviewed HERE) for many years now, and it remains among my favorite lipsticks. I have been meaning to purchase Guerlain Rouge G Lipstick in Gemma for quite a while, and finally did it so that I could wear this gem during the holidays.
Guerlain Rouge G Lipstick in Gemma #64 is described as a rosy mauve, but I would add that it is a cool, mid-toned rosy mauve that is punctuated by warm and subtle golden pearl. The formula is unbelievably luxurious, and profoundly pleasurable to use. It leaves lips hydrated, defined and slightly plumped. It is lightweight on the lips, and it has enough cushion to be very comfortable, but without being so emollient that it wears away quickly. It glides across the lips effortlessly, deposits color evenly, and it neither bleeds, nor does it settle into lip lines. Furthermore, it offers buildable coverage to maximize opacity, but can be sheered out for a subtle wash of color. As you can see from the swatches below, Gemma has a luminous sheen that is incredibly flattering. I am impressed by the longevity of this beautiful lipstick, and I generally enjoy 4-5 hours of wear before needing a touch up.
 According to Guerlain,

Lipstick is reinvented in an exceptional jewel with Rouge G, a subtle balance of intense colour and the comforting pleasure of a creamy lip balm. Behind this magical creation is an astounding formula: the unique combination of ruby powder for spectacular radiance, hyaluronic acid spheres for perfectly smoothed lips and wild mango butter for lasting hydration. Lips are intensely coloured, perfectly smoothed, moisturized and plumped up. For excessively perfect lips!

The light, delicate scent of a vanilla "floriental" leaves its incomparable mark on Rouge G de Guerlain. Top notes sparkle with a lemon, orange and bergamot accord. The rose and iris heart exudes sweetness. The vanilla and tonka bean dry-down gives Rouge G all of its intensity.
Behold Gemma's magnificence!
On the left, I swatched Gemma is a couple of passes, and on the right in a single pass that I blended.
Overall Assessment: I am madly in love with the Guerlain Rouge G formula, and Gemma was such a great purchase. I wish that I had purchased it long ago because the color is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. It earns an unmitigated A+

I think that I might even love it a touch more than Gabrielle! The quality of these lipsticks is amazing! Definitely something to consider during the next VIB/VIB Rouge sale!

    1. I agree, this is just pure, unmitigated glam! Next time you are at Sephora or Nordstrom give them another sniff– I do not find them to be too fragranced, and it fades quite quickly.

  4. Oooh that packaging! I have two Rouge G L'Extraits, which are both liquid, and the packaging is the same heavy, mirror-built-in case.
